Albury Animal Hospital – Emergency & Urgent Care (EUC)
After-Hours and emergency veterinarian.

About Us
Albury Animal Hospital is planning to open the only emergency and after hours hospital in the Albury/Wodonga and surrounds area.  Our vision is to have an emergency program available for Veterinarians to develop their ECC skill set and provide excellent patient care standards, within a supportive and growing team and business.

We are aiming to start this service in July 2024.

We currently have a well-established GP hospital that has been providing Veterinary services to the community for 5 years.   Our local area has been without a local emergency centre/after-hours care since 2021 and we want to step up and establish this side of the veterinary services within our community.  Our hospital believes bringing these veterinary services to our area will increase the patient care standards to a level deserving of a large regional city, whose population is more than 100,000 people and their pets.   We will be able to provide urgent and emergency care that is time critical, which currently has high risk for transportation mortality or poorer patient outcomes due to the delayed veterinary intervention.

Starting these services is an exciting time of growth for our hospital, and although this service is not established yet, it will be well received by the community and surrounding veterinary professionals alike.   Our hospital management is dedicated to providing an employee driven progression in the business, to support growth in this area.  We are currently investing in equipment and facilities to ensure our EUC team will have access to all the necessary tools to be able to complete their work efficiently, and effectively, ensuring patient care job satisfaction.

Please click here to see photos! photos

About the roles:

We are seeking multiple vets to start this service.  We are looking for an EUC Clinical Veterinary Manager, and emergency and urgent care Veterinarians.

Hours of work: Both roles will be shifts working between 5pm and 9am on Weekdays, which is our stage 1 implementation.  When we are ready for Stage 2 implementation you will be required to work shifts over a 24/7 period over weekends and public holidays as well.  Shift length is negotiable.

EUC Clinical Manager

The Veterinary Clinical manager will be very resourceful and an experienced emergency veterinarian, committed to building the after-hours services and standards of care as we progress through implementation and growth stages of the business.  This role requires oversight of the EUC veterinary team protocols, processes, training, and development and will be involved in team member retention.   You will be able to grow your team, whilst being the primary support and mentor on the floor, providing an empowering and inspiring culture for each team member to shine and operate at their professional best.
AAH management want to make the AAH EUC a desirable place for ECC veterinarians to come and establish their ECC training.  We will require you to work with AAH management to develop and implement a core skills training program for all AAH EUC veterinarians to undertake, so we are developing future ECC leaders within our hospital and cementing Albury Wodonga as a desirable career location for ECC veterinarians.    Be part of growing the foundations for a program that will be here for years to come!

Employment conditions:

Your renumeration will commence as a straight salary in the range above, with the expectation that you will be in the high end of this after 12 months – after demonstrating you are team fit, capable of the leadership requirements and have progressed the EUC team past implementation and grown the service.

Emergency and Urgent care Veterinarian

We are seeking dynamic and passionate Veterinarians for our Emergency and Urgent Care (EUC) team.  You may have ECC experience already OR you may be someone wanting to start a career in EUC.

The Hampden Veterinary Clinic is currently undergoing significant business growth and, as a result, we are requiring an additional predominantly large animal veterinarian for a start in mid to late 2024. This position would suit someone with experience but new graduates are welcome to apply.

HVC is a privately owned, rapidly expanding, twelve vet clinic located in South West Victoria. We operate from two sites, one in Cobden where our brand new clinic is close to completion, and our second one in Warrnambool. Our work is approx 65% large animal (mainly dairy cattle) and 35% smallies.

We are 2-3 hours from Melbourne and in the heart of the south-west Victorian dairy country. Dairy cattle medicine and surgery is a large component of our work, which means there are plenty of LDA and RDA surgeries, pregnancy testing, calvings, lame cows, bull testing, calf disbudding, as well as treating the usual sick cows and calves. We have 2 sector scanners and 3 curved linear ultrasounds for pregnancy testing, along with two tipping crushes and bull testing equipment. In clinic, most of our orthopaedic cases are done in house, plus there is all the usual gear including small animal ultrasounds, Idexx blood machines, digital xrays and IM3 dental units.

Work consists of an 8 day fortnight with roughly one weeknight on-call every second week and one weekend on call per month. Partnership prospects exist for interested candidates, after a mutual settling in period.

If you want to have a kick of the footy or throw of a netball on Saturdays when on call we will strive to make it happen. The mantra at the clinic is that no-one should miss a social engagement because of work.

The salary package for an experienced vet is between $120,000-$150,000. There are 4 weeks annual leave, 1 week study leave, a yearly $2,000 allowance for CVE, and a paid after-hours bonus. A dual cab ute and phone are supplied. We encourage and support all our staff in their continuing education.

Equine Intern/Associate Position

"The best vet job I've ever had..."

...said the new graduate who has just vacated the position. Because his visa ran out, not because he wanted to leave.

So, once again, a position has become available that is fluid and adaptable, and could be made into exactly the job you have dreamed of.

It's an excellent new graduate job, but might also suit someone with a bit of general experience who has realised that all the cool kids are horse vets, or someone who is eyeing a surgical Residency, and needs to bling up their CV a bit.

It also might suit someone who is a bit burnt out, and wants to live life a bit, whilst funding their extravagant, hedonistic lifestyle.

You can hone your surgical skills and expertise as assistant surgeon in approximately 300 elective surgeries performed at several equine practices around Victoria. Sometimes my brother, the pilot, and perfectly adequate surgeon, Captain Doctor Johnny Russell flys me to his surgery in his plane, so if you're into adrenaline sports, have I got the rush for you. He's only nearly killed me twice. Most of them, though, will happen at Bendigo Equine Hospital on Wednesdays and Fridays. If you'd rather have the day off, or a long weekend my guest.

Please click here to see photos! photos

The entire working week is based around my jiu jitsu schedule, so you don't even need to get out of bed on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays until 10 o' clock, unless you got a Pilates class, or something. It's a little known fact that Black Belts in jiu jitsu are given the honorific 'professor'. I got mine last week, and I will absolutely insist on the title, mostly to annoy friends in academia, but it will also allow you to tell people you worked with a professor in your last job.
Just leave it at that. No need to elaborate.

You will have ample opportunity to get practice behind closed doors, and with zero stress, at most of the day-to-day competencies required to be an equine vet. X-rays, ultrasound scans, nerve blocks, joint injections, catheter placement, lameness exams, endoscopy. You name it, you can do it. I literally couldn't care if I never touch another horse in my life. If you want to learn, I will teach you. Then you can do all the work whilst I stand back and, at last, attain the apotheosis of my veterinary career by becoming, simply, "eye candy".

I'm already nearly there. Ask anybody.

You will be my anaesthetist during approximately 300 on-farm surgeries/year. During the first six months of the year, you will have the opportunity to attend and be involved in all the major Yearling Sales. You will work closely with the Racetrack Practice (based in Euroa) during Sales season, and gain experience in Sales radiography and endoscopy. There is also potential for exposure to race track work at the world-renowned Lindsay Park stables, and surrounding clientele, should you wish.

Or not. You can drive me around a bit, and have nearly every Sales weekend as a very long weekend off, and quite a lot of other long weekends off, as well, if you want. There is the opportunity for weeks of paid holiday, when I'm at Sales and suchlike, if you wish. Or, you can spend time at the Hospital gaining valuable training in anaesthesia and in-patient care. Up to you.

At the time of writing, the incumbent veterinarian had the choice of doing this, or spending some time with his hot Colombian girlfriend.
No-one has seen him in three weeks.
He could be dead.
We simply don't know.

Your role will vary with the season. There is no weekend or night on-call roster work, although on average, one night a week will be spent in a hotel, especially if you come to the Sales.
You won't. Once is enough.

You will not be required to take any serious responsibility, if you don't want to, and the job is relatively stress-free, unless you want to push your own boundaries.

Salary is negotiable, but whatever skills you bring to the table, don't worry - I can afford them.

Accommodation and a car may be available.

The position starts in late July/August. Overseas applicants are welcome to apply. I am open to a six-month position, because why the hell am I always advertising in May, when nearly everybody in Australia graduates in January?

For further details, please call or FaceTime Professor-Doctor Tom Russell on 0429 845 505, or email me at:

If you wish to speak to the previous couple of interns, that can be arranged. The current one is Japanese, but his English is excellent. The one before that is from Leeds or somewhere, and, I'm not gonna lie, is basically incomprehensible.

Mildura Veterinary Hospital is a large, purpose-built practice within easy walking distance of the city centre in Mildura, VIC.

We are an independent, family-owned practice of 9 vets (8 FTE and 1 part-time) and are looking to expand our team – we would consider taking on up to FOUR new vets for the right applicants (three years ago we did just this – see our facebook page for details of the ‘fab four’).

We are a mostly small-animal practice, with the occasional large animal, and as such would be happy to take on EITHER a mixed animal veterinarian, OR a small animal only veterinarian.

Mildura is situated on the beautiful Murray River and is a 4 hour drive from Adelaide, and a 6 hour drive from Melbourne, and there are daily flights available also.

We are an AVA new graduate friendly practice, but all levels of experience welcome to apply, with salary negotiable (depending on experience).

The practice premises have recently undergone extensive renovations, with more to come in the immediate future. Currently we have 4 dedicated consulting rooms, a grooming room, a dedicated grieving/quiet room, separate dog and cat wards, separate large brand new isolation ward, a large separate sterile surgery with dual tables, separate radiology/ultrasound room, and large central treatment room with a wet table, and dual treatment/minor surgical tables.

We are very proud of our roster and working conditions which are very flexible. Most of our vets choose to work a 7 day per fortnight cycle (FTE – weekdays only, as we are closed on weekends) but this is negotiable and candidates are welcome to work shorter shifts Mon-Fri to make up FTE hours if this is preferable. Our emphasis is on an attractive and sustainable work life balance and for this reason, individual preferences and needs are always taken into account in all aspects of our practice. Time off is highly valued, and it is almost never a ‘no’ when a request for time away from the practice is made, whether this be for annual leave or other reasons.

We strive to provide a highly supportive environment for all staff – you will never be sole charge – one of the many benefits of being part of a large team. After hours is flexible and is shared evenly, and remuneration is excellent: up to 90% of professional fees are paid for work undertaken. Additionally, an RDO is accrued for every weekend covered on call. Support from one of the senior vets is always available, day or night. In addition, we use an external triage service for after hours calls which has reduced the number of calls by around 70%.

Our wonderful team of nurses are all either Certificate 4 qualified, or are currently enrolled in study. Our nurses are not just glorified cleaners, but rather play an active role in patient care and veterinary support – you can rely on them to monitor and report on your inpatients, ensure treatment schedules are carried out, take blood and urine samples and run diagnostics as requested, place IV catheters, set up for and assist with all procedures, and to provide continuous monitoring of your patients through surgery and into recovery, with dedicated one-on-one nurse-to-patient care ratio. Our two head nurses are not only cert 4 qualified but also each have their Diploma in general practice, and are currently undertaking further study.

Our aim is to to provide our patients and clients with the highest standards of veterinary care and attention achievable in general practice. We have a team oriented approach to our cases, and tackle a wide variety of medical and surgical challenges. We have a dedicated hospital nurse each day.

Referral is always offered to our clients for difficult cases, but being four hours from the nearest capital city means we have a unique opportunity to perform a variety of surgical procedures. We set a premium on pain management, preventative health care, and early behavioural modification, with puppy preschool courses run on site.

We have all the usual equipment found in general practice, including but not limited to;

Special interests are encouraged, and continued education is highly valued with generous course and conference expenses covered by the practice.

One of the current practice principals has a special interest in soft tissue surgery, and performs a reasonable amount of brachycephalic surgery including airway, skin fold, and screw tail surgery.

Dr Ian Japp, the previous practice principal, still works with us on a casual basis, coming in for orthopaedic surgeries as needed. An applicant with an interest in orthopaedics would, therefore, be supported and encouraged!

We are a supportive and social team and hold get togethers both inside and outside of work hours. We hold regular staff meetings, which are fully catered for by the practice.

Employment package includes:

We are happy to provide contact details of both our current, and past, veterinarians, upon request, so that you can find out for yourself what it is like to work at MVH.

For any questions, or to chat about the position please contact Dr Katherine Overs on 0423 467 331, or email

Geelong Animal Emergency is looking for a veterinarian to join our team. We'd love to sit down and talk about who you are, and what's important to you.

Here is a bit about us.

We are Geelong Animal Emergency. We are a small but busy emergency hospital servicing Geelong, the Surf Coast and surrounding areas.

At our core, "we're here to help". We make sure this is at the forefront of our interactions with you, our team mates, our clients, our local vets and their pets. This is really important to us.

We are proud of our vibrant team of vets and nurses, who are friendly, welcoming, inquisitive and work hard to provide great emergency care. We are a community and we look after each other - and that's important to us. We choose staff members who add to this.

Our team culture is based around making sure everyone can feel comfortable to ask questions, enjoys coming to work, and our team is encouraged to learn new things and to have a go. There is no hierarchy, and anyone who wants to try and have a go, is given opportunities to learn and grow.

We're part of Advanced Vetcare, and we focus on being both a personally and professionally rewarding place to work. Being part of a large referral practice provides opportunities to work alongside our specialists, who just want to help you be your best. You will get exposure to cases that you will never see in general practice and find out how interesting they are.

We have lots of equipment that's fun to use and learn new skills with, including a great U/S, CT, digital X-ray, a ventilator, blood gas analysers, in-house coags and Idexx catalyst, along with a really interesting array of surgical tools to make surgery easier and fun.

We all want our staff to be the best that they can be, with a "have a go" mindset so that they can do great things for our clients and their pets. We support this by providing the environment, the tools, the training and the feedback that we all need to learn.

We are flexible. We look for great people and pay you well for your time. We give you plenty of opportunities to enjoy everything that the Surf Coast and the Otways have to offer - and only an hour from the Melbourne CBD.

We are really looking for Full time or Part time people but since many people are interested in casual employment- we are open to discussing that too.

We are flexible on pay for the right person, but we currently pay between $140,000 - $180,000 p.a. FTE based on experience and some ability to be able to work some charge and independently.

So if we sound like the type of team that you'd like to work for, then we'd love to talk to you.

How to apply:
Please contact John Le Nepveu on to discuss further details and we can arrange a sit down for a chat.
