"I worked at The Animal Hospital in Kalgoorlie for 4 years, starting as a new graduate. Dr Marj is very supportive and always willing to help or answer any question I had, and was only a phone call away when I needed help while on call. The nursing staff are also experienced, kind, and very encouraging towards new graduate vets. As a busy rural practice you will see a wide variety of different cases and lots of wildlife, more than you would expect to see in the city and as a new graduate I feel I gained a lot more experience in my first 4 years than a lot of my colleagues working in other positions. This position is great for someone looking for a variety of cases and experience in a supportive environment."  Dr Genevieve McMinn, January 2023

Our opening hours are from 8 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday and Saturday from 8 am to 12 noon.

After hours are from 6 pm to 8 pm weekday evenings, 12 noon to 8 pm Saturday and 8 am to 8 pm Sundays and Public Holidays with a 1 in 5 roster. A veterinary nurse is also rostered for after hour assistance.  Graduates are not required to do after hours for at least 6 weeks.

The practice is mainly small animal. We also see a range of wildlife with us having an affiliation with a local wildlife rescue group. Some proficiency with equine is an advantage as may be required after hours.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder is a small vibrant city (population 30 000) with a welcoming and inclusive community in the southern goldfields surrounded by the Great Western Woodlands where we enjoy a mediterranean climate.  The woodlands offer many opportunities for outdoor adventures including camping, gold prospecting, motorbike trails and hiking. There are also a huge range of entertainment options within and surrounding the city with something for everyone.

It’s a very sociable city with many places to eat (and drink) with a range of excellent restaurants, bars and cafes. We have many facilities including a 50m indoor swimming pool at the Oasis Recreation Centre, multiple gyms, an entertainment complex at the Goldfields Art Centre where there are regular national and international shows on offer, a world-class golf course, museums and many family friendly parks and gardens.  There is also a lively horse racing industry in Kalgoorlie with regular winter race meetings that the whole city enjoys.  The annual race round is a state-wide attraction with visitors coming from all over to enjoy the events.

There are a huge range of sporting clubs for young and old including basketball, netball, soccer, cricket, football, triathlon, pony club, speedway and motocross to name a few as well as social clubs all within a short 10minute drive.  We also boast two reparatory theatres, brass band and a choir if you prefer to be the entertainer.

There is a choice of exceptional primary and high schools to choose from, both public and private as well as TAFE and a branch of Curtin University. There is also a large faith-based community with over 15 churches and a mosque.

Mining is the main industry with all the people and service industries to assist. The mining industry also supports the city and along with the local council sponsor a huge range of free fun community events attracting renowned artists for free concerts including Eskimo Joe and Kasey Chambers.

It is a 4 hour drive south to stunning Esperance on the beautiful southern coast of WA, or a 6 hour drive (or train ride) to Perth on the Western coast. The city boasts a major airport with many daily flights to and from Perth. The flight takes around an hour.
