INGLEWOOD, NORTH TARANAKI REGION - EQUINE

Equine Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced equine vet to join our team in the beautiful North Taranaki region of New Zealand. We are a mixed practice with 18 veterinarians engaged both full and part time. This role will be primarily equine focused to cater for a wide variety of first opinion cases.

Taranaki has a thriving equine community with thoroughbred racing, standardbreds, sport horses, trekking, hunting, ponies and minis. The range of work is interesting and includes field surgery such as castrations, artificial insemination, dentals, brandings and pre-purchase examinations. We have in-house diagnostics and our own equine crush under cover.

We have the usual range of equipment such as portable DR digital Xrays, ultrasound, endoscope and a power-float.

This position could lend itself to a full-time or part-time role within the large animal team.

Up to Full time maternity cover / Locum Companion Animal Veterinarian in a privately owned practice.

NOTE  - We are looking for maternity cover from approx.1st December2024 (or earlier) to February 2026. Ideally, the position is for an average of 30 hours per week, but we are open for an applicant wanting full time work. We would also consider a locum vet wanting to take extended breaks (up to 3 weeks) in the above period to discover New Zealand; as long as peak holiday periods and their weekend shifts are covered.

About the Production Animal role
This is a Production Animal role with a heavy dairy focus. You will collaborate closely with farmer clients, providing expert veterinary care and overseeing comprehensive herd health management, including disease prevention, biosecurity, and animal welfare support.

You will leverage our in-house laboratory and diagnostic tools to inform and enhance decision-making on the farm, ensuring the best outcomes for both animals and clients. Additionally, this role involves offering mentorship and guidance to junior veterinarians, helping them develop their skills and expertise.

You will be an experienced Production Animal or Mixed Practice Veterinarian with a proven track record in providing exceptional veterinary care and management to livestock clients. Vetlife Motueka, offers a full range of veterinary services to the surrounding community for both production and companion animals. The team of vets and nurses are frequently involved in a variety of surgeries.

The dedicated team of both clinical and support staff are always at hand to help, give advice and make sure things run smoothly.

Vetlife Motueka is looking for a locum vet to start as soon as possible until 2025, flexible and negotiable, with the possibility of extending if preferred. The clinic is open 8.30am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am – 2pm on Saturday, which allows for plenty of time to explore Motueka and the surrounding countryside. The majority of the work would be with companion animals however being able to contribute to the mixed on call roster would be an advantage.
