Due to an increased workload we are looking for an additional Equine Veterinarian.

The equine clinic operates out of a purpose built hospital facility in Invercargill, a city of 55,000. The hospital was first built in 1996 and renovated in 2010. The majority of the equine work is ambulatory with the horse population approximately 70% standard-bred racehorses, 20% pleasure horses and 10% thoroughbred racehorses.

The work is mixed and varied. The successful applicant is encouraged to participate in all aspects of the practice. Additional duties would include the performance of equine anaesthesia for surgeries, attendance at race meetings and breeding work both fresh and frozen Al during the breeding season. We would welcome an applicant with a desire to work on their equine surgical skills or with a speciality in surgery.

Our area of New Zealand is close to New Zealand’s best outdoors, tramping, mountain biking, fishing or hunting. We are 2 hours from NZs tourist adventure capital Queenstown and the Central Otago ski fields.

MVS is a large mixed-animal practice with a purpose built Equine clinic and referral hospital located in the heart of New Zealand horse country. The majority of our caseload is Thoroughbred racing and breeding with a smaller sport, pleasure horse and Standardbred racing component. The annual hospital in-patient caseload is around 1000 horses per year.

The equine hospital is well- equipped including full surgical facilities, digital radiography, digital ultrasonography, nuclear scintigraphy, in house laboratory, video-endoscopy and gastroscopy. You will have the support of a team of 12 other equine veterinarians (including two board-certified specialists in surgery), 3 interns and 12 nurses/support-staff. On-call for after-hours is shared equally.

A culture of quality service to the client, dedicated care of the patient and peer support exists in this practice.
