Position: Equine Veterinary Internship, 9-month internship beginning August 2017

Cambridge Equine Hospital is looking for a recently graduated veterinarian who is passionate about the equine industry, and has good interpersonal skills, and would like to learn in a supportive environment.

Cambridge Equine Hospital is a 10-veterinarian practice with a modern, purpose-built facility featuring a fully equipped surgical suite. Our large client base predominantly consists of Thoroughbred stud and racetrack practice, with an expanding pleasure and sport horse clientele. We have an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate to practice with mentorship and support. The successful applicant will receive experience in the fields of surgery, anaesthesia, medicine, and diagnostic imaging (radiology, ultrasonography, and nuclear medicine). The intern will be involved in the diagnosis and treatment of hospital cases as well as field, routine racetrack and stud practice, as well as rostered supervised after-hours work.

Position available in a mixed, mainly small animal practice in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand.

This vet hospital has been a three-vet practice for many years, but after a main clinic expansion and complete renovation in 2014-15 and coping with regular locums since, there is now an opportunity for a fourth vet to join us.

The work is 90% small animal with a lifestyle bias for the remaining 10%. We have a complete range of diagnostic, surgical and dental equipment, digital X-ray (including dental), ultrasound and a full laboratory with stem cell and blood bank capabilities. Double prep and surgical rooms are supplied by three consult rooms, in turn feeding from reception and hospital areas, individualised for cats and dogs.

Weekend and after-hours work is shared with another mixed-vet practice for all but two months of the spring season. This means a Saturday morning clinic, a full weekend and on average one night’s duty per week in a two-month cycle.

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate would have at least 2-3 years experience, however all applications would be welcomed. You must  have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent to apply for this position and be able to gain a New Zealand Work Visa.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be required to participate in all areas of our practice including the after hours and weekend roster (approximately 1 in 3 weekends during calving and 1 in 7 weekends for the rest of the year).
