Cognosco, the research division of Anexa, undertakes applied research with the objective of providing farmers, veterinarians, and policy makers with timely, relevant and accurate information to improve animal health, welfare, and production outcomes. Cognosco has a close association with clinical veterinarians and the clients of the clinical business. This ensures the ongoing relevance of research undertaken and a clear path to application for research findings.

Cognosco has been operating for more than 20 years and has undertaken more than 200 on-farm research studies, predominantly in the areas of mastitis, reproduction, and nutrition of dairy cattle, goats, and sheep. Cognosco has local and international collaborations with academic institutions, industry bodies (e.g. DairyNZ, LIC) and with animal health companies. Cognosco undertakes post-graduate training and many international students and academics have undertaken projects within the team. Cognosco also has in-house laboratory capabilities including microbiology, biochemistry, haematology, and parasitology, with PCR and ELISA.

Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor in Small Animal Internal Medicine

The School of Veterinary Science at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand invites applications for TWO permanent academic positions in small animal medicine.

Our facilities include flexible and rigid endoscopy, digital radiology and ultrasound, and in-house CT. MRI examinations are carried out at a nearby human imaging practice. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) maintains a full suite of in-house diagnostic laboratory equipment, shares a building with IDEXX, and includes a privately owned full service diagnostic laboratory. Patient care is provided 24/7 by a dedicated team of ER veterinarians and nurses, supported by board-certified critical care specialists.

The successful candidate will spend at least 50% of their time providing internal medicine services to the clients of the (VTH). The balance of responsibilities will be negotiated based on appointee experience and vet school requirements.

Your veterinary degree must be immediately registerable with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand and you must either hold a specialist qualification in small animal medicine or be eligible to sit examinations to attain a specialist qualification.

Additionally, experience in small animal medicine at the referral level is essential as well as a strong service focus, both towards clients of the (VTH) and towards our veterinary, veterinary technology, and postgraduate students. Finally, your exceptional work history must demonstrate a high level of initiative, flexibility, and outstanding communication skill evident within team environments.

The Waikato Afterhours Veterinary Hospital has a vacancy for a locum cover for 2/3 shifts per week from mid November to mid December. This is an awesome opportunity to extend your emergency skills and get better work stories.

We are a passionate and motivated team of experienced Veterinarians and Veterinary Nurses, dedicated to providing a high standard of care to our patients at all times of the night.  We are a well-equipped practice which includes a full in house lab, digital x-ray, ultrasound, CT scanner and multi parameter monitoring equipment.  We also have access to a registered Emergency and Critical Care Specialist who works in our sister clinic, The Referral Centre, next door during the day.  Previous emergency experience is not essential, but you will need to be confident with fundamentals of day practice to cope with the more challenging Emergency and Critical Care work.

There is a comfortable flat above the clinic for the vet rostered on to use. 

The remuneration is attractive and there is also a bonus system in place.  The team culture is supportive, dedicated and enthusiastic.

Chief Operating Officer

Based in Te Awamutu, this is a pivotal leadership role which will be responsible for the day to day operational management of clinical business operations. The successful applicant for this role will provide strategic input and management across the variety of divergent functions and business activities.  

Working to the strategic and financial objectives as set by the CEO, the role will seek to achieve optimum profitability by providing the direction, leadership and guidance to the business unit managers and staff with a drive to deliver operational excellence.  

The COO will have primary accountability for the provision of operational management support and assistance to the regional managers and business unit managers. You will lead the delivery of the monthly business and financial performance and will manage the budgeting and forecasting processes.

This is a key senior management role that requires the skills to be able to influence, challenge and provide high quality, valued management advice to the business units. Ideally, you will have experience working for a large corporate business at a senior management level with the demonstrated experience and ability to lead and drive a performance culture.

To be successful you will have a minimum of 10 to 15 years’ management experience with significant strategy and business development.  

A Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree (BVSc or a recognised equivalent) is an essential prerequisite.
