AUCKLAND - FULL TIME SMALL ANIMAL HEAD VET New Position

Head of Veterinary Services

Full-time, permanent position

SPCA is one of the best loved and most respected charities in New Zealand, with a proud history of helping animals in need since 1883. SPCA Auckland cares for animals that have been lost, abandoned, injured, or abused.

We are looking for an experienced and capable Head of Veterinary Services to take on the management of our in-house Veterinary Hospital. You would play a crucial role in leading a highly collegial team and filling one of the most rewarding roles available in animal care.

In this role, you will be overseeing our vets, providing leadership on all veterinary matters throughout the hospital and helping to set the professional standards of animal care and hygiene for the SPCA. Vets at the village are supported by qualified nurses along with multiple assistants and volunteers.

The SPCA handles approximately 10,000 animals per year and the opportunity for education and experience is limitless. While our work is comprised of shelter work, the sheer number of cases we see in a year allows for more experiences and learning than just 'shelter work'.

The hospital is equipped with all the daily functioning equipment along with digital full body and dental x-ray, dental machine, IV fluid pumps, surgical suite and anaesthetic monitoring equipment.

The successful candidate must have the following skills and experience:

You will be a confident people person and have team management experience Comfortable working with a large number of nursing staff along with 5th year vet students and you would need to work with several different groups within the SPCA Village

Ability to act as a leader within a team and be willing to work cooperatively with other departments on an everyday basis The successful candidate must be a confident qualified Veterinarian with both surgery and medicine and have a minimum of 2-3 years' experience. Further experience and clinical qualifications would be looked on favourably but we are seeking a leader not necessarily an advanced clinician

Your responsibilities would span over a 5 day work week (1 weekend required per month) and the package includes 4 weeks annual leave, Continual Professional Development (CPD) leave and a reimbursement package along with paid veterinary memberships. You will be supported by a Head Nurse and a Clinic Administrator.

If you think you have what it takes and want to contribute to the welfare of thousands of Auckland's animals in need, please apply with a CV and cover letter to Alix.barclay@spca.org.nz by 4pm Friday October 20th.

Applications without a cover letter and CV will not be accepted.

A position description is available on request by emailing paula.quigley@spca.org.nz.

GERALDINE - MIXED PRACTICE WITH DAIRY New Position

Genuine Mixed Practice with an emphasis on Dairy.

Do you miss working in a mixed practice where variety is normal? Do you miss private practice where it’s a team game? Do you want a relationship with your clients where you are seen as part of the extended support network for the family, along with the Doctor and other professionals? If so, and as long as you enjoy a good laugh Gateway Vets would love to hear from you.

Everyone loves Geraldine with its arts, food and an interesting music scene. Of course the great outdoors are just as great -  Mt Dobson, Mt Hutt and Roundhill make the weekend skiing choice hard.  It is wonderful place to bring up your children with excellent schools and strong sports clubs.

We are a privately owned family business, operating out of a purpose-built rural clinic situated on an aesthetic rural section on the outskirts of Geraldine.  It is fully equipped with excellent facilities and you will work with friendly and competent support staff.

We have an opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced vet. The position would ideally suit an experienced vet, however, we would seriously consider a new grad who is confident with a positive attitude. You will need good communication skills, and a great customer service ethic. The position will be varied, stimulating and exciting. The case load includes high country sheep stations, farm dog practice, dairy operations, stud deer and a thriving small animal practice. Though the practice is genuinely mixed you will need to be interested in dairy medicine. There are currently 4 veterinarians, and the after-hours roster is 1 in 4 weekends with week nights shared. Our after-hours are usually fairly quiet.

We offer full collegial support, CPD allowance, fully equipped late model 4wd truck, cell phone, laptop, and a competitive salary for the right applicant.

Come and join the enthusiasm and energy our close knit team provide to a young and exciting business!
