PIOPIO/TE KUITI, KING COUNTRY - MIXED

Mixed Practice Veterinarian at King Country Vets

Are you a keen outdoors person? Do you like hiking, mountain biking, skiing, surfing, fishing or hunting? Are you looking to further yourself as a sheep and beef veterinarian, and working with our team to provide a great dairy and mixed practice service?

King Country Vets is seeking an experienced (2 years or more) veterinarian with a passion for dairy, sheep and beef farming. We work from two purpose-built clinics in Piopio and Te Kuiti with a varied case load. All vets contribute to each area giving a truly mixed practice work environment.

As a private practice, the work environment is relaxed and fun, leading to a happy team. The client base is largely farming, which leads to a productive and great working relationship with our customers. Most of your days entail driving the hill country roads visiting farms of all shapes and sizes.

We live in the Northern King Country (Waitomo district in the Waikato), 30-35 minutes from west coast surfing and fishing, 30-40 minutes from the timber trail, surrounded by great hunting and tramping, and handy for trips to Mount Ruapehu ski fields.

KAIKOHE, FAR NORTH DISTRICT - MIXED new grads welcome New Position

Bay of Islands Veterinary Services

Full Time, Mixed Animal Veterinarian
www.bayvets.co.nz

Due to a change in circumstances for one of senior vets, Bay of Islands Veterinary Services is looking for a full-time, truly mixed animal vet to join our rapidly expanding team in the beautiful, subtropical, Far North of New Zealand.

We strongly encourage a healthy work life balance and our location lends itself well to achieving that. From beautiful beaches, water sports, lots of sheltered boating as well as open ocean access, forest walking and mountain biking, there is something for everyone. Being a tourist destination, we are not short on cafes and restaurants. The region boasts a number of wineries and craft breweries that offer tastings.

Bay of Islands Vets is an independent, private mixed practice with 5 clinics spread across the Bay of Islands, servicing companion animals, farm animals and equine. Companion animals are attended from 3 of our four branch clinics as well as our centralised Kerikeri clinic where we self-refer more complex cases, hospitalised animals, and orthopaedic surgeries. Kerikeri also serves as our afterhours clinic.

Please click here to see photos! photos

This role is for someone who wants to be a truly mixed vet in a rural service town. Nearly all our farms are smaller family operations, where relationships are valued more than cost benefit analysis. You would be based primarily in our Kaikohe clinic as one of two full time mixed vets. You would be supported to gain NMAC accreditation, In Calf, Worm Wise expertise. We already have two vets involved in the national exotic disease surveillance team. The opportunity exists to swap some small animal days and head to the Kerikeri clinic to advance your skills in companion animal medicine and surgery.

Your farm calls will frequently take you as far as the West Coast to spectacular locations such as the Hokianga and Waimamaku. Dairy forms the bulk of our large animal work with a lesser amount of beef, very few sheep, and some lifestyle blocks. You will be required to triage the occasional horse, but we have vets who will happily take those cases off your hands. The workload is split evenly between production and companion animals, with the two vets taking turn about. The clinic workload is rapidly growing and will likely accommodate a third companion animal only vet in the near future.

Our practice has strong relationships with local animal charities, Bay of Islands Animal Rescue, Coast to Coast Cat Rescue and the SPCA, we all work closely together to improve animal welfare in the region. We are also actively involved and sponsor the newly established Kiwi Coast Kiwi Rehab Unit now operating in the Bay of Islands.

Shared after hours is split between large and companion animals, no more than one weekend in six, with a rostered nurse also available. You would be rostered primarily in the large animal afterhours roster, attending small animal calls mostly in a backup capacity. You will receive 6 hours time in lieu per weekend, plus a generous fee per call out.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working sole charge, performing routine desex surgeries and consultations in clinic, and happy to head out on farm to perform a variety of duties. This role could suit anyone from a recent grad wanting to gain experience in a truly mixed role, to a more experienced vet wanting to relocate to one of the most spectacular parts of New Zealand.

A generous salary is commensurate with experience. A fully stocked vehicle is supplied. VCNZ registration and NZVA membership is paid along with an allowance to cover relevant CPD.
