SMALL ANIMAL MATERNITY LEAVE POSITION

Veterinary Centre Oamaru is seeking an experienced, full-time Small Animal Veterinarian to cover a 12 month maternity leave - with the potential for ongoing work. This is an opportunity to join a busy 4-4.5 vet strong dedicated small animal team whose case load is extensive and varied, including high country working dogs. The Veterinary Centre Oamaru is a truly mixed practice – with a caseload of 65% large animal and 35% small animal.

There is a dedicated team of nurses offering great assistance and support to our vets. Vet Centre Oamaru has a purpose built, recently refurbished small animal clinic and hospital. Including two sterile operating surgeries, digital radiology - including dental, dedicated small animal ultrasound, in house lab with CBC/Biochem, microscope with 100x oil emersion lens, recently upgraded ECG and dopler.

CPD is strongly encouraged. We currently have numerous vets undertaking Masters papers through Massey University.

This full-time position includes rostered weekend work, however there is flexibility for other options.

Oamaru is a vibrant and growing coastal town - 1.5 hours from Dunedin and only 3.5 hours to either Christchurch or Queenstown. If you are a lover of the great outdoors then this town is for you - town harbour and local beaches for paddle boarding/surfing, nearby hydro lakes for boating and fishing and an extensive range of hills and mountains for tramping/hunting, skiing and biking. The Institute of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences at Massey University, New Zealand, invite applications for an up to 12 month fixed-term position in veterinary small animal surgery, based at the University's Manawatu campus, in Palmerston North. As a guide, the role may comprise approximately 70% clinics, 30% rostered teaching and scholarly time.

Our AVMA-accredited veterinary programme is world-renowned providing quality, research-led education. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) is a referral center for New Zealand, and is staffed by board-certified specialists in anaesthesiology, internal medicine, oncology, diagnostic imaging, nutrition, emergency medicine/critical care, soft-tissue and orthopaedic surgery. Emergency service and community practice/primary care are also offered at the VTH, and the diagnostic imaging service manages cases from the companion animal, equine, production animal and the wildlife hospital. The VTH is well-equipped; we perform TTA/TPLO/PAUL/THR(CFX) and have AO and SOP plating quipment/ImexSK ESF/CRF and an ILN system. We have state of the art digital arthroscopy/laparoscopy equipment and intra-operative C-arm fluoroscopy. Our imaging suite is equipped with Eklin DR and a Philips 16 slice helical CT scanner with access to MR off-site. The companion animal surgical area includes two specialist surgical theatres, a separate student theatre suite, a large anaesthesia induction and recovery suite, and a state of the art sterile supply facility.

To be successful in appointment to this role, you must possess a veterinary degree immediately registerable with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand, and you must either hold a specialist qualification (FANZCVS/ACVS/ECVS), or be Board Eligible or Residency Trained. You will need to have a strong service focus, both towards clients of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and towards our veterinary, veterinary technology, and postgraduate students. In addition, you will show initiative, flexibility, and excellent communication and team skills. Experience in small animal surgery at the referral level is essential.

In this position, you will be expected to participate in research and contribute to the wider scholarly activities of the Companion Animal Group. As a guide, with four surgeons on the team, the role would comprise approximately 50% clinics, 20% rostered teaching and 30% protected scholarly time.

Our AVMA-accredited veterinary programme is world-renowned providing quality, research-led education. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) is a referral center for New Zealand, and is staffed by board-certified specialists in anaesthesiology, internal medicine, oncology, diagnostic imaging, nutrition, emergency medicine/critical care, and obviously Surgery. Emergency 24x7 services, and community practice/primary care are also offered at the VTH. The Diagnostic Imaging service manages cases from the companion animal, equine, production animal and the wildlife hospital. In addition, you will show initiative, flexibility, and excellent communication and team skills. Experience in small animal surgery at the referral level is essential.

Marks Ewen Equine Veterinary Hospital was established in 1961 and has been offering quality equine veterinary services in the Matamata area of the Waikato ever since. At present it has developed to a fully equipped equine referral hospital and first opinion practice located within 5 acres on the outskirts of Matamata.  It is a growing practice with 9 veterinarians, 7 support staff including qualified nurses and experienced administration staff.  The practice has an internship program with interns rotating through the hospital and ambulatory services. The client base is almost exclusively thoroughbred stud, sales & and racing stable client base but there is also a significant and growing sport horse sector.

The hospital offers full surgical services and seasonal neonatal intensive care services using state of art diagnostic equipment that include in and out house laboratory services, digital radiography, ultrasound, video and dynamic endoscopy, arthroscopy and shared gamma scintigraphy. 

Matamata is centrally located in the heart of the Waikato on the North Island of New Zealand. It is the picturesque thoroughbred and dairy centre of New Zealand. HAWKES BAY - MIXED PRACTICE new grads welcome New Position

Mixed Animal practice in the sunny Northern Hawkes Bay.

We are looking for a permanent vet to join our team in Wairoa.  We offer a truly mixed practice – mostly sheep and beef, some dairy and deer, and a significant amount of equine (dental and repro mainly).  Small animals is a large proportion of working dogs, SPCA work and Doc wildlife as well as the normal urban caseload.  Some orthopaedics are done in clinic while more technical are referred on a regular basis to a clinic in Napier so there is the opportunity to learn and observe at this clinic also.

After hours are 1 in 3 and one night a week with a minimal amount of call outs (unlucky if you get a weeknight call).  Work vehicle can be supplied.

We have had new graduates in the past so would consider another but would prefer someone with at least one or two years experience.  Workload is such that if you have a special interest in an area this can easily be catered for, though you would be expected to happily do both large and small animal.

We have excellent vet nurses who are very capable and love have all their skills utilised in the clinic so we are looking for someone who has a friendly, positive attitude, works well in a team but able to work on their own in the field, who desires to learn more skills and abilities, and has good communication with clients.

We are only an hour from national airports, great beaches, beautiful bush and lakes, hunting/fishing/mountain biking all within clinic service area.  Rocket lab also within the area and the town is looking to grow significantly over the next 5years.

TAWA, NORTHERN WELLINGTON - FULL TIME SMALL ANIMAL, LOCUM 1ST TO 27TH AUGUST New Position

We are a 9-vet, 4-clinic companion animal practice in the northern suburbs of Wellington, New Zealand.

We have no after hours work being a member of the Wellington After Hours Veterinary Clinic but we are open on Saturday and Sunday mornings and some of the work will involve this.

We have all the usual equipment; digital x-ray, ultrasound, complete IDEXX lab suites, surgery patient monitors, are fully computerized and have 4 veterinarians on staff with over 20 years experience and another 3 with over 12 years experience.

Our two main hospital clinics being NZVA BestPractice Accredited and therefore only having fully qualified veterinary nurses on staff.

Our two hospitals are only a few hundred metres each from the main suburban train line.

We may be able to provide accommodation and a vehicle if required. Pay negotiable but approx $500 per day.

ROLLESTON, SOUTH-WEST CHRISTCHURCH - FULL TIME MIXED

Full Time Veterinarian Required
Christchurch, New Zealand

This is a new position for a permanent Veterinarian with a modern, high standard and progressive clinical outlook to join our enthusiastic and highly skilled clinical Team.

Our facility is modern and purpose built with a good arsenal of diagnostic equipment (endoscopy, ultrasound, ECG, radiography, fluoroscopy) and access to advanced imaging modalities.

We have a 80% S.A. – 20% L.A. mix with equine work predominating the L.A. caseload.

Rolleston is situated on the Christchurch fringe and is in easy access to the Southern Alps, all the Canterbury Plains have to offer and the city facilities of Christchurch City.

The position would suit a mixed practitioner with a strong S.A. and/or equine skill bias.

After hours work requirements are minimal, as is weekend work requirements.

A practice vehicle will be available for work related use.

An initial three-month trial period would apply to assess suitability for the role.

Our Practice:

Our Total Vets clinic is looking for a passionate and knowledgeable vet to join their team. They are a busy small animal clinic that prides itself on high standards, efficient and friendly service. Their well-equipped clinic boasts digital x-ray, endoscopy, top of the line ultrasound, in- house lab, an on-site Clinical Pathologist, modern surgical facilities and a keen focus on new methods and technologies to work up our cases.

As a Specialised AI Clinic, our special interests include canine reproduction. Rehabilitation, we offer an underwater treadmill for Rehabilitation which is operated by a dedicated hydro therapist. We perform stem cell treatments and Spectrum Allergy Testing for skin irritations.

The Total Vet’s practice is a busy clinic, it is not unusual for 11 surgeries to be done in one day. We can guarantee no day will ever be the same in this clinic. You will get exposure to surgeries that are not normally done at other clinics.  Having an on-site Clinical Pathologist not only allows our vets to access results quickly and allows them to develop their pathology knowledge in more detail.

The Right Veterinarian:
