📍 Waipapa, Far North, New Zealand
🕒 Full-Time | Experienced Large Animal Veterinarian
🌐 Website: www.bayvets.co.nz
📘 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BayVetsNZ/

Bay of Islands Veterinary Services is looking for an experienced full-time farm vet to join our fun and supportive team. Our team includes both new graduates and seasoned professionals, and we’re based in the beautiful, subtropical Far North of New Zealand. Many of our vets enjoy a flexible 4-day work week, and we’re happy to accommodate similar arrangements.

Please click here to see photos! photos

Our stunning location supports a healthy work-life balance. Enjoy beautiful beaches, water sports, sheltered boating and open ocean access, forest walks, mountain biking, and a vibrant local scene with cafes, restaurants, wineries, and craft breweries.

Bay of Islands Vets is an independent, private mixed practice with four clinics across the region. We serve companion animals, farm animals, and equine clients. We’re currently developing a modern, purpose-built clinic in Waipapa to serve as our central hub.

This role is ideal for an experienced vet looking to step away from large-scale intensive systems. Most of our farms are smaller family operations, where relationships matter more than cost-benefit analysis. We also welcome vets with aspirations of practice ownership.

We expect candidates to have NMAC accreditation, and expertise in InCalf and WormWise programs. A passion for dairy cattle and mentoring younger vets is essential.

Farm visits will take you to spectacular locations such as the Hokianga, Whangaroa, Bay of Islands, and other hidden gems. Dairy work forms the bulk of our large animal caseload, with some beef, minimal sheep, and lifestyle blocks. You may occasionally triage horses, but equine cases can be passed on to other vets on our team.

You’ll join our large animal after-hours roster with a frequency of no more than one weekend in six and less than one night per week. Support for small animal emergencies may be required occasionally. You’ll receive 6 hours of time in lieu per weekend, plus a generous call-out fee.

💰 A generous salary is offered based on experience. We cover VCNZ registration, NZVA membership, and provide a CPD allowance.

🌟 Ready to escape the fast-paced city life and work in a stunning location? We’d love to hear from you!

FRANKTON, QUEENSTOWN - MIXED OR SMALL ANIMAL Locum New Position

We are looking for an experienced locum, available anytime soon until 9th January, who might like to catch the tail end of the ski season and help us out at a time we have some unforeseen staff challenges.

We are a predominantly companion animal practice (95%), with a small equine/farm animal component. While a mixed practice veterinarian would be ideal, we will consider solely CA applicants if they are the right fit. We have two clinics in the Queenstown Lakes area, a new companion animal hospital and surgery in Frankton and a branch practice in nearby Arrowtown, both with breathtaking views of the Remarkables.

We usually run 3-4 vets in Frankton and 1-2 vets in Arrowtown. Frankton hosts the majority of our procedures, with occasional surgical and dental days in Arrowtown. While there maybe days where there is a sole vet in Arrowtown, all complex medical and surgical cases are referred to Frankton.

Both clinics are well equipped, including digital Xray, digital dental X-ray, ultrasound and full dental and surgical suites. Our PM system is Ezyvet and we use the Smartflow hospital system.

We have a team of highly trained nursing staff, who are a credit to themselves for the standard of care they deliver. We also have an exceptional reception team, focused on excellent customer service. We are a veterinary work place that focuses on the mental health and wellbeing of our staff, in an industry that has many challenges on that front. Consequently, we have many staff members who have been with us for many years and our staff turnover is low.

This position includes the Christmas and New Year period. The successful applicant will be expected to be available over this period, to share the workload and on call with the other veterinarians.

If a sojourn in the Southern Lakes, in a great practice, while there is still snow on the hills appeals to you, please email us at accounts@remarkablevets.co.nz

KERIKERI, BAY OF ISLANDS - SMALL ANIMAL New Position

Phoenix Animal Wellness in Kerikeri, Bay of Islands, is searching for a veterinarian.

For us it’s all about you, we are looking for a veterinarian with experience, who wants to invest in themselves and their development, helping us continue to build a practice at the cutting edge of Veterinary Care.

We are a proudly independent companion animal practice, established just over 4 years ago, offering a range of referral and specialist services, as well as first opinion general practice. We are offering a full-time or part-time role with days to suit you. We are fortunate to be able to accommodate individual needs, offering flexibility as required. If you are ambitious, with a desire to grow professionally – we can definitely help you achieve that.

If you are looking for plenty of surgical work or looking to develop your surgical skills further – we can support that, as we have a high surgical case load, and a wealth of surgical experience to learn from.

If full clinical autonomy is important to you– we ensure you will see cases from beginning to end, we think this is vital for vet fulfillment, client satisfaction and clinical outcomes.

If it is a supportive team of veterinary professionals, from, experienced vets, to an amazing network of veterinary nurses you want to have– here is a team that is at the top of its game. We all pursue special interests; for example one vet is an ace at advanced imaging, one is our repro expert, another is an orthopaedic specialist, so we all work together to share our skills, notes, and have case discussions, with the goal of achieving the best possible results. We hold our wellbeing and practice values in high regard; we have a ‘morning rounds’ meeting every day, so we are all on the same page.

Please click here to see photos! photos

When it comes to weekends and out of hours, the rota will be based on 1 weekend in 5, all weekends are supported by a wonderfully skilled vet nurse.

The need for this role is due to one of our awesome vets venturing overseas for adventure. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced veterinary surgeon to explore, develop and grow, live in the Bay of Islands, and experience all that this beautiful area has to offer.

Don’t just take our word for it, read about what the team has to say and about working at our practice:

From day 1, I felt like I belonged at Phoenix. The team were so welcoming and warm. There is a lot of value placed on mental health and work life balance, which is so important in an industry with such high rates of burnout. I love my new work family.” Toni, veterinary nurse

I’ve spent years looking for a great boss to work for, multiple practices later, I feel like I’ve finally found that. Paula and her whole team are such a supportive, positive and dedicated group. I couldn’t wish for a better place to work.” Jen, Veterinarian.

As someone coming from overseas and as a new graduate, I have felt welcomed at Phoenix by both the team and our clients from my very first day! I love that I can follow most of my cases through, allowing me to build a genuine connection with clients and patients, plus, the diverse caseload and facilities available have allowed me to develop my skills rapidly. If I had to pick, my favourite part of coming to work everyday is the team - we have fun no matter what we are doing and I can’t think of a better boss and management team to work alongside!’ Rose, veterinarian

To start with here’s some strong pointers: If you’re looking for a clinic with a high surgical case load, this is it. You’ll become a whizz at surgery and get all the support you need, and the clients are genuinely lovely and grateful. But what I really think make or breaks our tough job in clinical practice is the team we work with. Life’s too short not to enjoy where we work. Phoenix has an amazing team; every single person here will help each other out and it makes work fun. If this sounds great, it’s actually better because my words aren’t wording today!” Ju, Veterinarian

Team Phoenix is my second family. A family that supports, encourages and inspires me daily. Finding a team that appreciates and respects each other’s abilities and promotes personal development has been amazing. Paula is an incredible boss, she is a constant source of motivation, knowledge and humour. The fresh baked morning tea is also a perk!” Sam, Practice Manager

The thing I love most about working at Phoenix is our team. We love to have a laugh, everyone has their quirks, and there is no judgement. Phoenix is a place where you can feel comfortable, supported and accepted.” Darian veterinary nurse.

When I talk to people and tell them I drive one and a half hours to and from work each day they are shocked and ask why? My answer is always the same, I love my job, and it is so worth driving that distance to work for a boss that embraces who I am as an individual, values my skills and acknowledges my dedication to the Phoenix team. I wake up every morning with the same passion and drive to deliver high quality patient care as I did the first day I started, which is extremely important to me and not something I can honestly say I have experienced in any past employment.” Donna, Head Nurse

To accompany this amazing role, is a salary and benefits package that will make you smile.
