CENTRAL WEST QLD, LONGREACH WITH TRAVEL ACROSS QLD, NT & WA - MIXED New Graduates welcomeNew Position

Cattle Work Focused Mixed Animal Veterinarian

Wass Veterinary Services and Longreach Veterinary Service are looking for an experienced or new graduate vet who is willing to learn the ropes for a position based in Longreach but travelling across northern QLD, the NT and into WA.

WVS: This job is ideal for a younger member of the profession with an interest (hopefully passion more than just interest) in travel, extensive cattle work, yet also enough time in an established and well equipped mixed practice to learn or continue to grow all of your practitioner ability on smallies, equine and more intensive cattle/sheep work.

Northern Extensive Cattle work: This aspect of the job involves providing veterinary services to large pastoral stations across northern QLD, the Northern Territory and reaching into the eastern parts of WA. This work revolves heavily around accurate foetal-ageing during herd preg testing to assist northern producers achieve the desired management and segregation systems. On top of large preg testing jobs the vets of WVS also provide extensive Willis speying, VBBSE, herd health/vaccination programs and disease investigations to multiple corporate beef companies (including Australian Ag Co, NAPCO, Kidman, Hancock Ag, Paraway Pastoral and large private enterprises). Relevant and intense training will be provided early on after job commencement to ensure all relevant skills are in place before being let loose.

Extensive travel and driving between stations and regions will be required with option of provided work car or an attractive km rate for own vehicle use. Whilst on farm there is often the opportunity for large scale equine work to cement your dentals, colt castrations and routine stock horse surgery. This side of the job generally extends from April through to October with return to the clinic or leave time available in between jobs.

LVS: During the down time of northern work, the relevant applicant will be based at the Longreach Veterinary Clinic and fulfil all aspects of a rural mixed practitioner as part of the energetic and supportive team that all LVS members provide.

The clinic is a well-equipped mixed practice, with all the current diagnostic imaging and surgical equipment that is needed to service the wide variety of small and large animal caseloads. The relative isolation of LVS allows the opportunity for thorough medical and surgical work-up of cases which may not be possible if referral centres were closer. This being said, the client base is generally willing to consider referrals when advised.

Extensive work with both the pastoral and horse industries allows vets to pursue personal interests. This includes beef cattle production and herd-health (including pregnancy testing both manually and with ultrasound, bull testing and general herd health/disease consultation), and equine work (including seasonal repro work, ambulatory cases, surgery, colic’s, medicine cases, and country race work).

Longreach is a true western QLD town, with an excellent culture, atmosphere and opportunities. There are numerous sporting and social activities, and the daily flights to Brisbane allows a serve of urban culture when needed. Jumping straight into the deep end of activities in town is encouraged, with involvement with both the sporting AND social scenes paramount to a healthy work-life balance!!!

Short-term assistance with accommodation, shared afterhours (generally quite a manageable afterhours work load), 4 weeks’ holiday leave + 1 week assisted study leave annually and relevant RDOs, and a well-equipped clinic car are available. To ensure the correct work/play load is followed, LVS will even cover the cost of an annual sporting or similar membership annually. The only compulsory requirement of the successful applicant is to be willing to roll their sleeves up and jump straight into the supportive team environment we can offer. Team is the key word at LVS, with the new vet hopefully willing to fit into this and to help expand and develop the clinic and services we provide.

This position is available to commence anytime from July 2020 through to early 2021 for those looking to graduate later this year.

Wages and package negotiable: Wage and relevant inclusions are negotiable on experience/ suitability but wage will commence at:

BUNDABERG - SMALL ANIMAL VET New Graduates welcome

Position vacant for enthusiastic veterinarian

Our veterinary hospital is very progressive, and we are in need of another veterinarian to join our team of professionals. We function as a 3-veterinarian team and we need to replace one of our team members who has progressed on in her professional life.

I could go on and on about the equipment we have available (ranging from the latest in blood testing machines to CR digital x-rays, from ultrasounds to designated surgical wards, from IM3 dental equipment to scopes, from ECG equipment to separated dog and cat wards) but all or most the relevant information can be found on our internet site of www.eastbundabergvet.com.au

I would rather talk about what is “in it” for the successful applicant.

First things first – 6 weeks holiday and 1-week study leave every year with full wage.

Wage – start on award wage for the first 3 months (until everyone is sure that this relationship fits everyone) and then we increase the wage to match the expertise of the successful applicant.

Support – both senior vets in the business are very proactive in assisting any junior vet and we encourage everyone to discuss any case that is interesting or difficult. We have a vet meeting every morning to make sure that everyone is comfortable for the day’s work ahead or to discuss any case that may be troubling anyone from the day before.

Afterhours (emergency work) – shared equally between vets. This does mean that once the new vet has settled in then they will be “on duty” every 3rd weekend and at least one night each week.

Animals seen – mainly dogs and cats with occasional avian. We do donate our time to wildlife rescue organisations where we have a close working relationship with carers.

Standard of work – as we are approximately 4 hours’ drive from Brisbane, we only send occasional cases to specialists. We are capable in dealing with over 99% of our medical and surgical cases in our animal hospital. This makes our professional life more fulfilling and more personal with the owners as well as developing a relationship with the patient.

Bundaberg itself – the Pacific Ocean to the east of us, rivers to the north and south and farmlands to the west of us. Clean air to breath, flat countryside to bicycle or exercise on, city big enough to have all the shops, cafes, restaurants, theatres etc but also small enough that there are no traffic jams, travel from one side to the other takes 10 minutes.

There are huge amount of sporting teams in nearly every sport known, there are long white sandy beaches to walk on or to explore, there a spots to “get away from it all” or other areas where you can taste the many foods of different cultures of the world.

Bundaberg is a place to bring up children, for families to feel safe from pandemics, where the neighbour cares for you, where people say “hello” as you walk down the street, where you can feel safe at night, where you can ask for help and actually get help. It is well known for it diversity in cultures, in wildlife including the famous Mon Repos (turtle hatchery) and where the whales come to have their holiday, where the food is grown locally and the many opportunities for the locals to have safe and happy lives.
