TAROOM, SHIRE OF BANANA - MIXED New Graduates welcome

Taroom Vets is in the market for an experienced mixed practitioner, future practice partner or a motivated new graduate to join our 4 vet team. TVS is a true mixed practice with over 80% of our work large animal. We service a large area of central QLD locally and some larger corporate clients in the channel country.

The clinic is well equipped with digital DR radiology, enough BCF cattle scanners for one each and 3 sets of bull testing gear. The distance to referral centres is not prohibitive but allows us to do plenty of orthopaedic work ourselves. We are not afraid to buy good gear and happy to purchase equipment for individual interests or to improve or ease case outcomes.

Please click here to see photos! photos

There is the opportunity for vets to pursue personal interests. This includes large-scale beef cattle production and herd-health (including pregnancy testing both manual and with ultrasound, bull testing and general herd health/disease consultation), large fixed-time commercial AI programs, some small-scale feedlots and equine work (including seasonal repro work). Knowledge of beef production systems and large animal handling skills would be beneficial.

Taroom is a cracking, friendly and thriving small country town. The smaller the town, the better the community. There is no better place to bring up a family. Taroom has one of the highest levels of employment in QLD, lowest crime rates, affordable housing and for a small town it punches well above its weight.

Check us out via Facebook or our webpage.

Remuneration is well above award, package negotiable and will depend on experience. We will help with relocation and would use local contacts to aid partner employment if required. An awesome ute-back setup is provided, our afterhours is currently 1 in 4 and rare to get a weeknight callout. There is opportunity for expansion for someone who wants to have a go. We don’t work 9-5 but rip in when we have to. Partnership opportunities exist for the right applicant.

Please email your resume and cover letter to the practice admin@taroomvetsurgery.com or alternatively call the clinic 07 4627 3130 and have a yarn to any of us.

EAST BUNDABERG, WIDE BAY BURNETT REGION - SMALL ANIMAL New Graduates welcome

East Bundaberg Veterinary Hospital - Veterinarian required

Position for a motivated veterinarian who wants to work in a comfortable well-equipped air-conditioned purpose-built small animal veterinary hospital being supported by well trained and caring nursing staff as well as extensively experienced and qualified veterinarians.

We would encourage both experienced veterinarians and new graduate veterinarians to apply for this position.

We are a 3-veterinarian business wanting to expand. We enjoy a friendly relationship with our clients, and we have an exceptional reputation for excellence and for results. Our workload revolves around dogs (70%), cats (25%) and avian (5%).

We are NOT a corporate business, we are privately owned and operated. Our primary role is to assist animals in their journey of life as well as making sure we enjoy our professional life and balance it with time away from the business.

We believe that to offer a high level of animal care we must have the time to discuss problems with the owners as well as time to examine the patient and time to do appropriate tests or treatments and discuss the outcomes with the owners. Consequently, we do not “pump through” our clientele and their furry friends.

We believe coming to work must be enjoyable for all staff members and we encourage each member of the staff to achieve the level of expertise and comfort that they have set for themselves. We encourage further education for all our veterinary staff and that includes conference leave (when we can get to conferences) every year, webinars, seminars, discussion between vets, membership to organisations such as the AVA and VIN and extensive library material both on computers and well as books and journals.

We hold staff meetings every week and we have a vet meeting every morning before work where any problems or queries can be discussed and (hopefully) solutions found. We have active participation in our puppy preschool as well as dog walks every month and puppy reunions every 3 months.

Veterinary Science, to us, is a way of life and we are looking for that caring qualified person who wants to join our team and develop their professional and personal skills to a high level.

Please click here to see photos! photos

We could go on and on about the equipment and the hospital itself, we could go on and on about Bundaberg and the surrounding areas with all its facilities. But you can get all the information you need by going onto the internet at our site www.eastbundabergvet.com.au or www.bundabergregion.org or you could open up Facebook and look at our site or the Bundaberg tourism site.

What are we offering to do for the successful applicant?

  1. This is a full-time position.
  2. Half Day off each week
  3. 6 weeks holiday every year.
  4. 1 week conference leave every year.
  5. After working on a weekend, our vets get a 4-day break on the following weekend
  6. All afterhours is on a rotational basis with other full-time staff members (we have a very low level of afterhour calls)
  7. Monetary assistance with relocation and 1st year rent – to be negotiated with successful applicant.
  8. Constant support (including in afterhour work) if required (depends on level of experience, expertise and the level of confidence in the successful applicant)
  9. Pay an “above award” wage in the 3-month trial period (wage starts at $80,000.00 for new graduate or 1st year graduate and goes up according to experience) and then negotiate a wage that is commensurate with your experience and expertise once the trial period is over.

What do we want in return?

  1. Enthusiasm for health and wellbeing of our patients
  2. Enthusiasm for successful outcomes to treatments as well as preventions
  3. Enthusiasm for profession and ongoing education
  4. Enthusiasm for the ongoing success of the business
  5. Enthusiasm to work in a team.
  6. Sense of humour and have the ability to laugh at oneself.

  8. Have an open mind with new ideas and new concepts of animal health care.
  9. Ability to leave your ego at the door when you enter.

LONGREACH, CENTRAL QLD - MIXED PRACTICE New Graduates welcome

Longreach Veterinary Service is seeking either an experienced or new-grad vet to join our growing team. LVS is a true mixed rural practice, servicing not only the companion, pastoral and equine clients, but also the extensive Northern Australian beef industry.

The clinic is a well-equipped mixed practice, with all the current diagnostic imaging and surgical equipment that is needed to service the wide variety of small and large animal caseloads. The relative isolation of LVS allows the opportunity for thorough medical and surgical work-up of cases which may not be possible if referral centres were closer. This being said, the client base is generally willing to consider referrals when advised.

Extensive work with both the pastoral and horse industries allows vets to pursue personal interests. This includes large-scale beef cattle production and herd-health (including pregnancy testing both manual and with ultrasound, bull testing and general herd health/disease consultation), and equine work (including seasonal repro work, ambulatory cases, surgery, colic’s, medicine cases, and extensive country race work).

Exposure to the extensive North Australian beef industry across the NT may be available to willing members of the team (season and work load permitting). This includes involvement with several corporate beef companies assisting with herd management, extensive pregnancy and bull testing.

Longreach is true western QLD town, with an excellent culture, atmosphere and opportunities. There are numerous sporting and social activities, daily flights to Brisbane and Townsville allows for a serve of urban culture when needed. Jumping straight into the deep end of activities in town is encouraged, with involvement with both the sporting AND social scenes is paramount to a healthy work-life balance!

Please click here to see photos! photos

Remuneration and associated package are negotiable; this includes a wage well above the award depending on experience ($70-$110k). Short term assistance with accommodation, shared afterhours (generally quite a manageable afterhours work load), relevant RDO’s, 4 weeks’ holiday leave plus 1 week assisted study leave annually. A well-equipped clinic car is available plus a fully paid equine dental course at EVDS*.

The only compulsory requirement of the successful applicant is to be willing to roll their sleeves up and jump straight into the supportive team environment we can offer. Team is the key word at LVS, with the new vet hopefully willing to fit into this and help expand and develop the clinic and services we provide.

Please email your resume and cover letter to the practice manager (ATTN: Courtney) longvet@gmail.com or alternatively call the clinic on 07 4658 3838 with any questions.

We pride ourselves on fostering loyal client relationships by delivering a thorough, personal approach to veterinary care for our patients, and we are seeking someone who shares these values. You would be joining a team of 3 vets and 9 support staff. Our two senior vets have over 20 years experience each and are happy to provide support where needed. The nursing team is very experienced and friendly and their co-operative approach ensures that patient care and client satisfaction is of a high standard. CAIRNS, FAR NORTH QLD - SMALL ANIMAL EMERGENCY

Emergency Vets 24/7 Cairns

Do you want to earn a $1,000,000 a year? So do we!

Sadly, we can’t provide that. But for just 3 shifts a week, we CAN offer $85,000-$110,000pa with hourly paid overtime if you ever have to stay back (It’s not often). We can also offer a part time position (That’s right, full time is only 3 shifts a week).

You can talk to the outgoing vet to get a handle on the workplace before you commit.

Here’s a lot more about us:
We opened Cairns’ only 24 hour veterinary emergency centre 4 years ago, aiming to provide after hours and overflow services to GPs in Cairns and beyond. We quickly established a great reputation for excellent service and quality treatment.

Contrary to the standard overnight-only emergency model, we are fully staffed and open for referrals and to the public, 24 hours a day. This means our patients aren’t shuffled between clinics while they’re unwell and we really maximise patient care.

Our shifts are 12.5 hours, which is how our staff say they like it, because they get a lot of work-free days. Being a fully functional clinic 24 hours a day, our vets simply hand over their patients to the next shift, and make their exit. No more popping back to check on patients, and no obligation to be on call.

Our exceptional vets are keen on further education. They are very supportive of each other, sharing techniques, clinical developments and optimising treatments. We create our clinical guidelines with input from all staff, with the expectation that by sharing everyone’s experience and knowledge, we all have a chance to learn and practice to a high standard as team. We use handover as an invaluable leaning opportunity for staff across the board.

Our veterinary nurses are all certificate IV qualified (or higher), and each nurse has engaged in further emergency training. They know their stuff, perform a mean CPR, and are extremely supportive and great fun to work with. Our kennel assistants are actually trainee nurses, bringing a wealth of experience from GP as they work towards formal qualification. Our vets work with a minimum of one qualified nurse at all times (although there are often 2 or 3, plus other support staff).

Our team culture is based around support. We understand that shift work and emergency cases can be tough, and we encourage mental health awareness by paying for at least one counselling session a year for all staff members. Our development includes a CPD budget of at least $2,500 per year, and we also pay for larger courses such as memberships training. We have in-house CPD, regular discussion groups on important treatments, and we pay external trainers such as Vet Education, Flexivet, and Boongarry Exotics to give specific emergency training seminars, a couple of times a year.

Hear from Kati, one of our exceptional vets who has been with us since the beginning nearly 4 years ago:
“Emergency Vets 24/7 is only my second vet job and I can happily say I have stopped looking after landing this gig. What matters to me the most is open communication with the bosses about anything and everything - conditions, roster, clinical stuff - we really have a say! I stay because I am heard and considered as a human being not as a number on the floor. I am supported and encouraged to advance my skills with continuing education.  The job itself is totally doable by the average vet, like me, who aims to provide the best I can. It helps to have a bit of experience on after hours stuff but when the weird and wonderful stuff arrives there is always help available. The pay is good and regularly and fairly reviewed. The days are long but you get all your hours done in 3 days and have huge breaks in between shifts. The bells and whistles are great but not why I work here. It is so rewarding to be able to provide such high quality care. The pros far out weigh the cons. You would be mad to not work in this team!”

Most of our staff have been here many years, and vow they wouldn’t want to work anywhere else.

The roster is rotating, but set several months in advance so you can plan a life outside work. Every effort is made to accomodate specific needs or certain days off without dipping into your 5 weeks of paid annual leave.

The team is currently 5 full time vets (6 before maternity leave), plus 3 regular locums, 10 full time nurses, 5 kennel assistants, and our fantastic manager who starts at 6.30am to stay connected to all the shifts (day and night), it’s really important to have open communication between management and staff.

Alice was a recent grad that joined the team at the beginning of the year. She had a shadowed supportive role for several months to give her the ability to transition from a recent grad GP role into the sole charge emergency position, it’s safe to say she’s done amazing well:
“Having fully qualified and experienced nurses on every shift, and having the support from the other experienced vets at the clinic has given me confidence to work in the field of ECC. Working in a practice that regularly delivers gold standard medicine has taught me so much in the space of just a few months, which is a positive for me as a vet and for the standard of care for my patients. The team are really down to earth and fun to work with.”

The hospital itself has been developed and built by the team that uses it, and we are always adding little life hacks to make the place easier to use, more customer friendly and better for our patients. People often comment that the facilities are impressive, but to us it’s just home. We have 3 large consult rooms, 2 treatment areas with 4 work stations, surgical theatre, radiography suite with exceptional DR imaging, great ultrasound, and have just finished building a separate cat ward. We have an isolation unit which has its own air supply, camera monitoring, sealed door and dark black out curtains for seizure patients. Our staff room is large and comfortable, with vision to all the hospital.

There is piped oxygen available to all animal cages, oxygen cages with actual oxygen percentage meters, 6 multi-parameter units including 3 capnography units, crash boxes, crash alarms, dedicated CPR equipment always ready, ventilators, full in house Idexx lab including coags and blood gas, loads of syringe drivers and pumps and much much more, plus regular training on all equipment.

Please click here to see photos! photos

We run Smartflow fully integrated which includes medications, lab work and billing. It helps hugely with patient care and streamlining, saving you time and effort. There are Smartflow templates for the most common conditions we see, giving helpful reminders about which medications are standard and checks to use, so you aren’t re-inventing the wheel every time you see the same condition. These are written in collaboration with all staff and are open for further discussion and improvement.

We don’t work on a commission basis because we feel it can encourage over servicing, but we do assess generalised KPIs at regular intervals and have regular pay reviews.

The successful applicant would be taking our vet Jackie’s position. She’s stepped back for a while to have a family, but is intending on returning in the future part time. She would be happy to discuss the role with any prospective candidates: just let us know and you can contact her directly. This is what she said about the role:
‘Emergency Vets 247 has kept me in the veterinary profession. I was literally one foot out the door to a different career choice until I took a chance to work here. I genuinely love coming to work now instead of dreading it and happily drive over an hour, past many other clinics to do so. It’s a great team environment with good work culture. Management have been hugely supportive of me transitioning from a GP and throughout my pregnancy.’

We are an emergency centre, so consult times are variable. In essence, they take as long as they need. Sometimes that’s 15 minutes, sometimes it’s an hour long admission. We work through everything on a triage basis and our nurses and kennel assistants are trained to prioritise. If a critical patient comes through the door, it will have a first pass triage and the nurses will often have taken vitals, placed an IV and started oxygen (with permission from the owner) within minutes, before you even get to the patient.

It can get busy at times, but we also have a lot more time per case to work things up once they are admitted to hospital. Handing over to the next shift means that works ups continue while you sleep and progress. Importantly, you don’t have to fit in dentals and vaccinations around cases that you feel should be prioritised, or worry about getting them home for closing time. We also host a surgical specialist every 8-10 weeks for 3-5 days from NCVS, and Dr Mitchell and his team are very welcoming if anyone wants to get involved.

Lastly, we are based in tropical far north Queensland, a stunning part of the world, with access to a city large enough to have everything you need, but small enough to not have big city prices. We have easy access to the reef, the rainforest, and the tablelands, and enjoy waterfalls, wildlife walks, cultural activities, night life and a lovely vibe.

So if you want to be part of team that is caring, loves doing a great job and is supportive of each other, have a management team which listens and implements your ideas, only work 3 shifts a week and have access to interesting cases with great facilities and an even better group of highly skilled support staff and engaged coworkers… send an email to richard@emergencyvets247.com.au, or call 0403 131 203. We also offer a relocation and bonus sign on package.

So, we reckon we are pretty good…
But don't just believe us...!

Here is what one of our vets has to say...

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Toowoomba Family Vets and RedVets for over 2 years and am now taking some time out for maternity leave. TFVs is truly the best of both worlds, the variety and relationship building of GP work coupled with the support of our 24hour hospital. This clinic is collaborative and supportive, all the vets look out for each other, and help is only a phone call away. We also have amazing support staff that you can trust to take the best care of your patients, help run diagnostic tests, and keep all the wheels turning. I highly recommend all vets that would like to stretch themselves in excellent GP care consider the role” Dr Ellie Burnett

DEERAGUN, NORTHERN TOWNSVILLE - SMALL ANIMAL New Position

Before telling you about the veterinary role we have for you in Townsville, situated in the heart of North Qld, let me share with you some of the topics discussed around our dinner table over the years, particularly when Richard was a young practicing vet.

These things remain incredibly important to us and are very much a part of our culture to this day:

  1. He wanted to feel supported – whether it was the most rudimentary procedure, or he was learning really complex medicine.
  2. He wanted to enjoy his day – every day when he walked into the practice, he wanted to feel safe in the knowledge that the entire team had his back.
  3. He wanted to be able to ask questions of the more senior nurses and vets, knowing that they would try really hard to make him feel valued while he continued to grow.
  4. He wanted to be paid well – we were saving for our future and our family. He needed to know that if he worked hard, he’d be rewarded for this.
  5. He wanted to be heard – He had lots of ideas about improvements the clinic could make to patient care, and it was so awesome when his ideas were taken seriously.
  6. He wanted to grow – He was interested in learning to be the best small animal vet he could be and loved it when he was given the opportunity to engage in further study or attend conferences regularly.

We are a family run, small animal practice in Townsville and the number of our wonderful clients and their furry family members continue to grow. Our aim is to grow our clinic in a way that addresses all those hopes and dreams of a younger Richard so our Veterinary team feel supported to become the best Vets they can be.

If our culture resonates with you, I encourage you to reach out to us directly to talk through the detail.

WARWICK, SOUTH DARLING DOWNS - MIXED New Graduates welcomeNew Position

Mixed Practice Veterinarian Positions Available – Warwick, QLD

Warwick Town and Country Vets is a well-established privately owned clinic, currently seeking to employ 2 mixed practice veterinarians.  The position is very flexible and can either be full/part-time or casual.  Experienced veterinarians, and or new or recent graduates will be considered for the positions with continued support and mentoring provided.

We are a small but dedicated team of 2 vets and 4 nurses, and we pride ourselves on providing exceptional customer service and practicing a high quality of veterinary medicine and surgery to our friendly and loyal clientele.  You will be working in a friendly and relaxed environment with an experienced team of supportive staff.  The clinic has a mix of approximately 80% small animals and 20% large animals (horses, cattle, sheep and goats).

Our veterinary hospital is equipped with modern technology including a digital x-ray machine, an ultrasound, a dental x-ray machine and im3 dental unit.  We run Vision software which integrates with our in house IDEXX laboratory which consists of a lasercyte, catalyst one, coag analyser, vetlab urinalysis and microscopes.  We have multiple fluid pumps for hospital and surgery patients.  We have 2 anaesthetic machines and monitoring equipment.  We have a power float for equine dentals.

Our clinic hours are 8am to 7pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm Saturday and 9am to 12pm Sunday, and we provide an afterhours emergency service at all other times.  Since extending our opening hours it has greatly reduced our afterhours work, but in saying that, it is still required as the nearest emergency centres are over an hour away. We do take some of the stress out of being the vet on call by having a great team of very experienced nurses who are on call with you, but most importantly they take and answer the afterhours phone which means that you will only get a call from the afterhours nurse if they need further advice or in an event of a true emergency. A work car is provided for on call use.

We have always been supportive of a great work-life balance and think that this is essential for a rewarding career in this profession; therefore, our rosters and hours are very flexible.  You may like to work 2 days a week or 5 days a week or even just 1 week a month.  Salary will be upwards of $120000pa + super depending on experience and the number of hours you choose to work (based on 40-hour week).  An additional bonus will be paid after the initial 3 months once you decide that this is the job for you.  You will be given 1 weeks paid study leave and $5000 to spend on continuing education in addition to 4 weeks holiday leave each year.

WARWICK, SOUTHERN DARLING DOWNS - SMALL ANIMAL

Small Animal Veterinarian WARWICK, Qld
CONDAMINE VETERINARY CLINIC

Amazing opportunity close to Brisbane, yet far enough away to enjoy the country life.

We feel this is the best small animal position available outside the major cities in Australia. Warwick is a small town which has great facilities and is close to Brisbane, Toowoomba and the Gold Coast. The population of 13,500 is supported by excellent schools, medical and sporting facilities, 24 hour gyms and a growing cafe and artistic culture. Warwick is nestled on the attractive farmland of Queensland’s Darling Downs and there is close access to walking trails at the many nearby National Parks. There is a secure dog park situated alongside the picturesque Condamine River walk and a range of horse sports are active in the area. This is a fantastic place to raise a family and an affordable, relaxing place to live.

What really sets us apart is our boutique style practice with great staff and clientele; excellent facilities and equipment.

Please click here to see photos! photos

Preference will be given to an experienced vet who wishes to practice at the highest level possible outside of large referral centres. We need someone who has the knowledge and ability to handle cases well, work independently, develop the practice and look after our loyal clients and their pets as they would want their family looked after.

We know that there are some veterinarians who don’t know the obvious benefits of country living so to encourage them to look outside the square and embrace a tree-change we are offering a salary well above the award. This is an ideal position for an experienced veterinarian who would like to establish themselves in a growing small animal practice with the desire to have a long term future in the practice. However, it is also a very supportive practice, and we would be enthusiastic to mentor a new or recent graduate.

Condamine Veterinary Clinic is a growing practice where we care for our clients and their pets even better than we would expect someone to care for us and our pets. Our first priority is always to our staff who are the foundation of our 10 year old purpose-built small animal clinic and we all take pride in practising an excellent standard of medicine and surgery. Our clients are warm and friendly and our staff are all enthusiastic to develop both professionally and personally. We have a well-equipped (including digital radiography, ultrasound, 2 Stinger anaesthetic machines with monitors, iM3 dental unit and dental radiography, in-house Idexx laboratory, orthopaedic instruments, Vet’s Choice heated cages), relaxing yet professional work environment and a supportive and courteous culture based on good work ethic, communication and education.

Condamine Vets is a growing 3 veterinarian small animal clinic and we are looking for an assistant who would love the challenge of joining with us while we progress to the next stage. Equine and some large animal cases are all referred to our sister practice, Warwick Equine Vets, which allows for a sharing of knowledge and experience between the 2 practices when needed. This opens up the potential for some large animal practice if the successful candidate desired this.

Our clinic hours are 8-5pm Monday- Friday and 8.30-11 am Saturday. We do provide an emergency service outside of these hours which is shared within the practice. A full-time position including 4 weeks holidays and 1 week conference leave is preferred however conditions are negotiable.
