GYMPIE, WIDE BAY-BURNETT REGION - FULL TIME SMALL ANIMAL

Bent Street Vet is a growing family owned small animal only practice requires another vet.  We are a very well respected and trusted business within the local community.  Don't miss this opportunity to join our energetic and experienced team.  You'll get a better pay rate, treated as a trusted member of the community, can drive almost anywhere in town in under 10 minutes and still have reasonable housing or rental values.  With the new highway upgrades the coast is less than an hour away when you want it.

Gympie and the Cooloola Shire is a growing centre servicing approximately 50,000 people.  There are many sporting, service and other clubs.  There are enough coffee shops and restaurants for entertainment.  Most importantly you'll actually be able to afford to eat there.  Gympie is centrally located to the Sunshine Coast, Rainbow Beach, Double Island Point, Fraser Island, National Parks, hiking trails and all the outdoor activities you could wish for.  The roster is flexible with current staff working a 4 day week with fixed RDO day weekly, so there is plenty of time to explore locally.

The practice was established in the 80's with a new owner taking over 5 years ago and driving a significant growth and continuous replacement of all equipment.  We have 3 isoflurane anaesthetic machines with heated circuits, respirator, IDEXX in house bloods (biochem and haematology), iStat blood gases, clotting analyser, digital xray, piped oxygen (with 30lpm O2 generator), monitors with CO2, Ultrasound, iM3 dental unit and are about to take delivery of an iM3 dental xray unit.  There is plenty left in the equipment budget to fill any holes that you may feel need to be filled.  Most importantly we have clients who want to pay us to use them.

The work is varied from loved fur babies to those that just want today’s problem fixed, routine vaccinations etc, lots of surgical and medical cases, to lots emergency stitch up, abscess, poisoning and envenomation cases.  Very few clients want them referred off and would rather have us do the work up and treatment here.  They are generally very understanding of the limitations of modern medicine and while they will try anything for a good outcome, understand that's not always possible.  We have visiting surgical specialist and cardiac and general ultrasound services as needed.

We are looking for someone to join our team and help grow our clinic and help us treat our clients to the kind of service expected in a strong community.  We need someone who'll take responsibility and lead in their case management and happily work as part of a team to help each other solve the trickier cases and pitch in on a big day.

The pay is well above award and does require inclusion in the after hours roster.  There is very generous compensation for afterhours work.  You will be paid an hourly rate for all of your work, but generally don't require much outside of your rostered hours.  We are flexible on most requirements, with good pay rates and adequate time off to enjoy life.

Competence in cattle and equine practice is preferred, and the successful applicant must be willing to support an on call and weekend rotation. New and recent graduates are also welcome to apply.

We have a very varied caseload, and due to our semi-rural location, most clients are happy for us to work up cases that may typically be referred in larger cities - saying this, we do have referral options to the South and East.

The clinics are equipped with all the mod-cons, such as digital radiographic equipment, in-house CBC and biochem machines, dental machines, Vision computer systems, ultrasound machine, and on-call work phones. The clinics are open Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, with a half day Saturday at two of the three clinics.

An Orthopaedic Surgeon comes every 6 weeks to operate out of our practice, so there are wonderful opportunities to learn from a surgery specialist. We are 10 hours from the closest referral centre, so incredible opportunity to work up cases and follow them through with an average of 5-6 surgeries Monday to Friday.

We are the primary vet for a wonderful rescue group in Emerald. Dr Angi, who has owned the practice for 8 years, is an excellent mentor and leader, highly liked by all staff and a very respected member of both the vet industry and local community. Her special interests are dermatology, medicine, ultrasound, orthopaedics and reproduction.

Our Practice Manager has been with the practice for 5 years and we have a great team of highly trained vet nurses, 1:1 ratio of vets: nurses plus excellent reception staff.

We are in a medium socio-economic area where clients take excellent care of their pets.

We offer a very supportive environment for continuing education, courses, memberships, etc with a flexible rostering for mothers and an understanding, supportive boss who knows the importance of family. There are no late evening shifts, the clinic closes at 5pm and everyone leaves the building by 5:30pm at latest.

We do a 4 day work week and the Saturday shift from 8:30am - 12:00 noon is shared between 5 vets, so only 1 in 5 Saturdays (weekends), closed Sunday except for emergencies. 5 vets share afterhours, so minimal rostering on afterhours with very good remuneration for afterhours work.

We are looking for an outstanding vet to join our team. Experienced vet preferred but will consider exceptional new graduates.  This is truly something you don’t want to miss. We are replacing a beloved team member who has been with us for 8 years but is moving on due to family commitments.  This is a busy practice so we need someone with established solid vet skills, good at multi-tasking and can keep up the pace of a busy practice.  There are opportunities for someone interested in medicine, surgery or both.

Apply today as we are hoping to have someone start asap.  We look forward to hearing from you!
