The School of Veterinary Science has a focus on future excellence in small animal medicine and surgery. Farm Veterinarian.
There is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a veterinarian with some experience to use and develop their cattle medicine and herd health skills by working in a large dairy and beef enterprise in Queensland.
You would live on the farm which currently comprises an ultra-modern 2300 cow high production dairy and a 12,000 head beef feedlot, and would take the responsibility of working alongside the farm’s management team to develop, implement and monitor the herd health and reproductive systems for the farm.
The position requires you to be able to work within a team to help achieve the farm’s production goals, but also to take a “hands on” approach to the day-to-day management of animal health on the farm, including the maintenance of an appropriate pharmaceutical supply manifest.
You would be supported by the farm’s management team and specialist consultants where required, and you will be encouraged to further develop your skills.
Experience in pregnancy testing and artificial insemination would be an advantage.
Normal working hours are expected to be 6am – 4pm Monday to Friday (with appropriate meal breaks), plus every third weekend. The farm has a number of experienced people who can deal with most animal husbandry situations, but there may be occasional emergency situations outside these hours where the animal health team is unable to resolve an issue in a timely manner.
The farm located at Millmerran, only 2 hours west of Brisbane, close to the major regional centre of Toowoomba. Family accommodation is available on the farm as part of the remuneration package, and you would be only 10 minutes from Millmerran township, with the school bus available at the farm gate.
