NORTH BURNETT REGION New Grads welcome

Animals Veterinary Services is a genuine mixed practice which has a full time veterinarian position available for immediate start. The two vet, two and a half vet nurse practice is located in Mundubbera, in the north Burnett region of Queensland. The clinic is located in an old bank building, with access to a small property close to the clinic which has large animal facilities for our equine work. In addition to our local clients, we also provide an ambulatory service throughout the central and North Burnett region.

The mainstay of our small animal work is with dogs, with a smaller number of cats and occasionally wildlife. Our clients are generally happy to work up cases fully and rarely take up offers of referral. As a result, we not only see a huge variety of medical and surgical cases, but are given the opportunity to work them up and treat them in house, which provides invaluable experience and keeps the job interesting and motivating.

The equine component includes a significant proportion of lameness investigation, general medicine, minor surgeries and comprehensive reproduction services including semen collection and artificial insemination. We have a good relationship with a prominent equine hospital which takes the majority of our equine referrals (mainly surgical colics) and provides valuable support and advice when needed.

The practice maintains a good cattle client base, with the majority of our cattle clients being beef producers, though we do service a couple of local dairies. There is room for expansion of our cattle services and applicants with an interest in cattle medicine are encouraged to apply.

Our nurses are extremely competent, hard working and great to get along with, and are all long term employees.

Animals Veterinary Services regularly hosts veterinary students and secondary school work experience students for practical rotations. We are also involved each year in the AVA PetPep program at local schools and judging the annual pet show run by the local church. We also provide sponsorship to numerous local committees.

The successful applicant will have a strong work ethic and understand the requirements of working in a mixed practice and dealing with rural clients and their needs. He/she must be able to work independently but also as a part of a close knit team. Respect for other staff members and clients is essential.

A 4WD vehicle and mobile phone will be provided for use by the successful applicant. Starting wage is consistent with the award and may be increased following a three month probationary period. Our business hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am-5:30pm, and Saturdays 8:30am-12pm. After hours requirements are week on week off, with standard pay conditions as per the award applying. New grads are welcome to apply – preference will be given to confident applicants with a genuine rural background and an interest in cattle medicine.

The town itself has a population of approximately 2,500 people and offers relatively inexpensive rental opportunities. There are plenty of sporting clubs and numerous local schools, including a high school for applicants with families. Major centres such as Bundaberg, Toowoomba and Brisbane are within easy driving distance. The area hosts a wide campdrafting community with numerous local events held throughout the year. Rosters may be flexible to allow staff to compete if desired.

Animals Veterinary Services is dedicated to providing up to date, quality service to our clients. If you feel that this position is what you are looking for and you are interested in learning more or arranging an interview, please don’t hesitate to contact the principal, Dr. Anja M. Schmidt on 07 4165 4999 or 0405 820102, or email at animalsvetservices@gmail.com

DAYBORO - SMALL ANIMALS

Small Animal Veterinary Guru

Believe us when we say " EVERY day is different around here.

Do you want to spend your day around energetic and passionate peers? Our award-winning small business thrives on incredible customer service and exceptional veterinary care.

Imagine driving the opposite way to the city traffic, and parking in the leafy grounds of the Old Mill Veterinary Surgery. You'll walk into the air conditioned, modern building to be met with smiles and an enthusiastic 'Good morning!' from the team of seven.  First up are the morning rounds then consultations, where you'll meet anything from a much-loved ragdoll kitten or bantam chicken, to a rough-and-tumble 'pigging dog' and her pups. Because you're such a star all-rounder, you will then jump into the change of pace that happens about 10am each day and swap into scrubs for the surgeries and procedures we have lined up for you.

You and the team
You will be supported by amazing team members, who are also devoted to outstanding customer service and genuinely care for each individual pet. Our dedicated receptionist will manage your bookings, calls and accounts, while the consultation and surgery nurses assist you in their respective areas. Our highly experienced nurses are fully utilised so you can delegate radiography, venipuncture, drug administration and pathology work with confidence.

We are situated on the north side of Brisbane - in the fresh air of the Moreton Bay region - and our client base is committed, interested, and yes, sometimes they are challenging! Our practice sees a large array of species, given our semi-rural location, although this position is mainly focussed on small animals.  The Dayboro area is uniquely located to cater for all tastes; the beaches and hinterland of the Sunshine Coast are just an hour away, then the hustle and bustle of the city is 40 minutes in the other direction. Mt Mee's boutique winery scene will keep your Sundays busy, or head for the Westfield shopping centre, only 20 minutes away, if shopping is more your style.

Your future
We have enjoyed strong growth in the last 12 months and are currently in the process of planning expansion of our premises. The new animal hospital is set to be one of the premier animal care facilities in Brisbane and this is your opportunity to help shape it.

The usual bits
The interior of the premises was purpose-built as a small animal clinic, in the historically significant Old Mill building, with all the resources and toys you love to use; MyLab5 ultrasound, iM3 dental, and VetScan pathology machines, as well as multiple precision vaporiser anaesthetic stations, Doppler blood pressure monitor, infusion pumps and suction and electrocautery equipment. Digital x-ray facilities will come with the hospital expansion.  The premises are set out for maximum efficiency - two consulting rooms, a large treatment room with wet prep area and extensive pharmacy, a dedicated climate-controlled theatre, crew room with kitchen facilities, and separate dog, cat and wildlife wards.

The leafy grounds are also used to our advantage, with a fenced exercise yard for long-term patients, large outdoor enclosures, and plenty of shady spots on the grass and park benches for those clients who like to spend time outside with their pets.

Our case load is varied and interesting, with lots of opportunities for the more challenging and unusual procedures - we are most definitely not just a vaccinating/desexing clinic! Whilst referral is always offered, some of our clients prefer us to look after their pets exclusively.

Our dream contender...
... is confident in their veterinary skills, yet flexible in their approach to each client. Excellent communication and customer service skills are a must. We would be delighted if you have gained Membership to the ANZCVS, and would shriek even louder if you have an interest or talent in orthopaedic surgery.  Even if you don't fit into that category, but you are awesome enough to have read this far - we'd still love to hear from you.

And....drum roll...
You will work four days per week, with an on-call weekend occurring only one in every three!  Your day off will be the same day every week so you can really get into a routine and relax, recharge and explore the area.  You will enjoy an above award base salary, and in keeping with our vision to always reinvest in our business and our people - if you go above and beyond what's expected, then we would like you to share in the financial rewards. There are plenty of opportunities for Continuing Education, and our practice is super supportive of upskilling and your desire to offer our clients new services. We want to always be at the cutting edge of veterinary medicine.

What you need to do now is this:
Step 1: Look at yourself and think: "Can I have a smile on my face every day? Do I look forward to growing as a veterinarian and rediscovering why I chose this career in the first place?"  If the answer is 'Heck Yes!' then:.

Step 2: Write all your awesomeness down and include some notes on your previous jobs and even your home life... including details of your own fur-babies of course! How do you spend your weekends? Are you in any clubs or do you love to cook?

Step 3: Tell us all about it! Shoot us an email to info@oldmillvet.com and submit your Letter Of Awesomeness. If you want to have a chat first, give us a call on 07 3425 2222 and ask for the Practice Manager.

Step 4: High five yourself. You could well have just applied for your dream job!

EAST BUNDABERG New Grads welcome New Position

Progressive Experienced veterinary team needs a Full Time veterinarian

We have a “position vacant” for another veterinarian to join our team of experienced and enthusiastic animal health professionals. Our team members include an owner/senior veterinarian who has TWO (2) memberships with the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists (ACVs)– belongs to both Chapters of Internal Medicine in Cats and Small Animals. Also we have an experienced senior veterinarian who also has a membership with the ACVSc in the Chapter of Small Animal Surgery.

We ONLY deal with small animals, avian, reptiles, rodents and other pocket pets. Our facilities are excellent and include all the equipment you would expect when working in a veterinary hospital – digital x-rays, ultrasounds (2), dental machines (2), latest blood analysis machines, sterile surgery area etc.

Our team compromises of 5 veterinarians, a manager, 7 nurses, 2 receptionists and a number of part time lay staff. We work out of two practices – the main one is a custom built registered Small Animal Hospital and the other is a branch practice based in a coastal town of Bargara.

We encourage further education and case discussions on a daily basis as well as a formal vet meeting once a week to discuss new ideas and new concepts. We actively encourage all veterinarians to attend at least one conference a year, to do webinars as often as possible, to discuss cases with senior vets, to research interesting cases seen in the hospital and to generally improve their professional skills to the highest level.

All less experienced vets are mentored with their cases with a senior vet and we encourage new ideas and new concepts.

We understand that a balance life style is important to our staff and we share the after hours equally with all the associate vets. All team members get at least 2 days off a week.

Bundaberg is situated 4.5 hours drive north of Brisbane and has a similar climate to Hawaii. Bundaberg has all the facilities Brisbane has (sporting, cultural, shopping, beach or water associations, service clubs etc) but does not have the smog or the traffic jams. Our climate is healthy and invigorating, we can drive from one side of the city to the other in 20 minutes in peak hour traffic, we can leave our veterinary hospital and be at the beach in 10 minutes, we can go for a walk in the country within 5 minutes, we can leave work and be playing sport within 10 minutes.

It is close enough to Brisbane to be able to go visiting for the day but far enough away that owners would rather treat their animals locally rather than just farm them out to a specialist. Therefore most of the cases are treated here and that increases the enjoyment of the attending vet and increases their experiences and their skills.

The wage offered is above the award wage depending on experience. The wage includes superannuation and penalty rates for after hour work.

We encourage ALL interested veterinarians to apply because we know that to gain experience means that someone has to employ you.

Our aim is to make the journey into veterinary science a pleasant and fulfilling experience and we believe that everyone has a huge potential – you just need to find the key to unlock that potential.

We hope to supply you that key.
