BOWEN HILLS, INNER NE BRISBANE - FULL OR PART TIME SMALL ANIMAL/SURGERY, NEW CLINIC New Position

We are a new hospital located in Bowen Hills, just north of the city.

I am the lead veterinarian, former owner and now manager of a busy Melbourne hospital. We have four vets and 9 nurses. Our business model is structured around providing veterinary care ate a far more affordable price point than is available at the vast majority of clinics/hospitals. We also offer a vast range of soft tissue, cancer and orthopaedic procedures that are more and more often only offered at referral centres. As a result, we attract clients from all over Melb and country Vic daily and more than occasionally, interstate clients.

I am bringing this model to Brisbane and looking for a veterinarian who is interested in surgery, is keen on further training, and is interested in sole charge/building a new brand. I have strong belief that veterinary services do not have to be as costly as they currently are. I am constantly hearing a common theme from owners, that surgery for their pets is near unaffordable.

As examples of the procedures I currently perform and prices at which we perform these, please see our Facebook page for Brisbane Pet Surgery. As an example we perform ACL stabilisation via MMP (modified marquet procedure) and charge $1400 to $1600 for this. As a result of our pricing, we currently perform 3 to 6 of these every week.

I will be in Brisbane on Sat the 24th Aug and am happy to meet you at the hospital if you feel working at this practice may be an option for you.

Salary is negotiable on experience. There is no after hrs work. There is no weekend work at this stage either. Hrs can be either full time or part time.

Our nurses run our hospital. They perform all our admits and discharges, xrays, iv catheterisations, blood collection, anaesthetic monitoring and recoveries, and almost all our anaesthetic inductions. One of our Melb nurses is moving to Brisbane and will be running the Brisbane hospital. I may also be bring one of our senior nurses initially for the first couple of weeks to ensure systems are running smoothly from the beginning.

If you are interested in surgery and broadening your surgery skills or are an accomplished surgeon already and wish to work in a practice that has a philosophy of providing care to owners pets more affordably, and work with highly skilled nurses, then this may be the practice for you. We are a very busy hospital in Melb and perform up to 15 surgeries a day as well as up to 50 consults/day.

We are 45 minutes from the gorgeous gold coast beaches, 20 minutes from GOMA, theatres and concert halls, and the cafes and restaurants of the Southbank precinct. The spectacular and challenging Bunya Mountains are just over an hour further north and offers bush walks, camping and hiking, and rock climbing for the more adventurous. And best of all, you can afford to live here! What’s not to like?

We are looking for a full time or part time vet with 3-4 years+ experience who is interested in joining our great team.

We have all the usual in house diagnostic toys including Idexx Procyte, Catalyst, Snapshot Dx, and Urinalysis machines, digital xray and dental xray units, ultrasound, as well as dedicated surgical and orthopaedic facilities, IM3 dental suites including LED lighting, patient warmers during anaesthesia, etc, etc. And we always aim to treat patients and clients according to best practice medicine and surgery. We pride ourselves on our ability to offer advanced diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures in house including ACTH stimulation and phenobarbitone assays, TTA’s, TPLO’s and TTO’s, and many other treatment acronyms.

Please click here to see photos! photos

You need to work as part of the team, but also comfortably handle sole charge. You will want to do the best for the patients and clients, and provide good service and communication. You need to be available on alternate Saturday mornings from 8am-1pm, as well as weekdays from 8am-6:30pm. You will want to sink your professional teeth into those interesting medicine and surgery cases, and be willing to expand your medical and surgical skills.

You will be able to sleep at night and on weekends, as we have an After Hours emergency service minutes up the road, as well as a specialist centre. You also have a team of experienced medical and surgical seniors at your disposal to help nut out those fun, challenging cases.

You don’t want to be confined to the practice premises all day every day? We hear you (and our clients), so we have a house call service that goes to local pet owners and retirement villages on a regular basis. It is a breath of fresh air, and a way to reach out to pets and people in the comfort of their own homes.

All we need from you is to be registered with the VSB in Qld, have a few years experience in small animal practice, a solid grounding in medical and surgical procedures, and a desire to give genuine high quality patient care and customer service. We would want you to demonstrate a keenness for a particular area of medicine or surgery – we will help you expand your knowledge and skillset. We have great staff, a friendly and communicative atmosphere, and clients who want to be listened to and serviced.

Obviously all the usual things apply - salary package commensurate with experience and skill set, 4 weeks annual leave and 1 week study leave. Access to specialist seminars, VIN, online webinars, and vet education thru the practice also available.

All this comes with a salary package from $76,650 for the right candidate!

Want to know more? Get your resume to me, or give me a call.
