Our practice is located in the beautiful wine region of the Clare Valley, 2 hours from Adelaide and 1 hour from Yorke Peninsula beaches. The population of 6,000 is supported by excellent schools, sporting facilities, a number of renowned restaurants, cafes and wineries set amongst vineyards and farmland. Clare is a fantastic place to raise a family and an affordable, relaxing place to live. We have a satellite clinic in Jamestown, 1 hour to the north of Clare, which is open two days per week. Jamestown is the northern hub for the upper north district of South Australia, and has a population of 2,000, supported predominantly by agriculture, and a blossoming wine industry. We also have a satellite clinic in Balaklava, 40 minutes south west of Clare. This clinic is open 3 days per week, and supports a local population of 2,000 and is the gateway to the Yorke Peninsula. The area is supported by broadacre agriculture and intensive livestock.

At Clare Valley Veterinary Services we are an enthusiastic team that pride ourselves on empathy for our clients, excellence in all that we do and integrity for those we deal with. We are a 4 Veterinarian clinic and are looking for a full time veterinarian to join us for an initial 2 year contract, with the potential for a longer term. We have well-equipped clinics (including digital radiography, ultrasound, iM3 dental unit and in-house laboratory, Abaxis), comfortable and professional work environments and a supportive and courteous culture based on good work ethic, communication and education.

Our clinic hours are 8-5pm Monday- Friday and 8.30-11 am Saturday, we then provide an emergency service outside of these hours (not 24 hour) which is shared within the practice. A competitive salary, commensurate with experience, commitment and performance is on offer, plus 4 weeks holiday leave and one week CPD. Conditions are negotiable.

The practice is independent and 100% small animal. We would like someone to come and share our love of general practice medicine and surgery. We open 7 days except public holidays (Saturday and Sunday to midday). The weekends are shared on rotation with compensating day off the following week. All afterhours is referred, ie no on call.

You would have the support of a friendly, experienced nursing team with long service records and a very loyal clientele.

There is a good set of equipment to support your work. In house Vetscan pathology suite including coagulation profile, digital radiography with latest software, anaesthetic monitors include EtCO2 and ECG, ceiling mounted operating lights, high speed dental kit, electrosurgical unit, MyLab Delta ultrasound, endoscope, Petmap BP, microscopes, infusion pumps, tonopen etc.

The role
The AAERC is now recruiting for a small animal medicine specialist to join the team on a permanent and/or casual basis. Both full time and part-time positions would be considered. Eligible candidates will be board-certified and eligible for registration as a specialist veterinarian in South Australia.

The successful candidate will enjoy a diverse caseload and working as part of a good-humoured team, which includes other board-certified specialists, radiology support and is complemented by a full cohort of clinical, admin and support staff. The ultimate aim of an internship is to prepare an intern to enter into a residency program or to source employment in a high standard equine general practice.

The School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences offers Equine Internships each year through its Equine Health and Performance Centre located at the Roseworthy Campus. The Internship is a 12 month intensive full time professional (clinical) formative program aiming to help the Intern to develop capacity to identify and solve medical problems within the disciplines, the ability to work-up a case with medical written and oral expression skills, and to teach non graduated students the elements of day one skills as described in the DVM program.

The ultimate aim of the Internship is to prepare the Intern to enter a specialty college qualifying (residency) program or to prepare to enter a high standard level of equine general practice. The program is also based on and encounters the guidelines of the RCVS Professional Development Phase (PDP) for those Interns who registered for this program.

The intern will rotate through first opinion, medicine, surgery, anaesthesiology and theriogenology in a formative program. The intern will work as part of the clinical team through a hospital roster, which includes weekends and public holidays. The intern will present a seminar and contribute to a research project during the 12 months. At the commencement of the program interns will be provided with a mentor to assist with meeting the objectives and expectations of the internship.

Come join our team; we are passionate about what we do and the quality of service that we provide whilst still not forgetting to add fun to the mix. Every day is different, and we are fortunate that we have opportunities to see such a wide and varied array of animals as well as interesting and challenging medical and surgical cases which we will often follow though, referring only minimally. We are very supportive of each other and are very proud of the capabilities of our support staff utilising their skills and interests to improve work fulfilment and better assist our Veterinarians.

We are a mixed country practice, based in the Riverland along the River Murray in South Australia (2.5 hours’ drive from Adelaide). We currently employ 5 full-time and 2 part-time vets and are looking to increase this number. Our work is mostly (85-90%) small animal with the remainder being an interesting mixture of cattle, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, exotics and wildlife work. We have four clinics within the Riverland Region with a well equipped state of the art hospital in Berri (providing 24 hour emergency care) and three additional clinics located in Renmark, Loxton and Waikerie. We also service a remote Mallee town once a month to assist local communities.

Recreational activities in the area are many and varied including organised sport, visiting wineries, arts, water-skiing, camping and generally enjoying the beautiful country environment. ECG, PetMap, BP), IV fluid warmers, ventilator, a range of orthopaedic equipment (inc. pins, plates, TTA, ext fix, bone grafts, string of pearl plating system), fluid pumps, Icare Tonovet, IM3 dental machine & Vet-Tome. We have recently added laser therapy with our machine capable of therapeutic ultrasound and tens also. We have dedicated cat and dog wards (including both cages and runs), separate surgery rooms for clean and sterile surgery and a large and spacious treatment area.

Flexible work hours can also be negotiated. After hours on call is currently shared equally between 5 vets, with 2 days off after a weekend on call. Nurses are rostered to be available and take the on-call telephone as extra assistance afterhours. On-call remuneration is generous.

Our clinic looks for personal fulfillment, adventure and to “Save the World”. We have held homeless vaccination and health check drives in our community, provide assistance for victims of domestic violence with their pets during times of emergency and hold community cat desexing programs monthly. Seeking adventure in our role and lives is something that our clinic owner lives and embraces and he has over a number of years sent staff to Nepal, Leh (remote India) and the Cook Islands. We have worked with Beyond Borders and individual clinics to arrange these trips.

Our Clinic and Team
To assist us with ensuring a positive clinical experience for every client and their pet that walk through our clinic doors our clinic is fully equipped with digital radiographs, ultrasound, endoscopy and in-house pathology. We practice a very high standard of care and have an interesting case load which also includes wildlife as well as the mix of large and small animals.

Our clinic treats 80% small animals and 20% large animal work which includes cattle, horses, sheep and alpacas, providing a constantly challenging and exciting working environment. Our team are also highly committed to ensuring all our staff have a great work life balance. To make this work, our FT vets work a 4 days week ensuring one-week day off each week.

On call rotating roster is worked out fairly amongst staff, well in advance to suit this work life balance. We are also incredibly supportive of one another to assist each other out in times of need. The support nursing staff are very well trained, provide great morning teas and give the vets the very best of help they can to make everyone's daily work load just that bit easier.
