New Position
Award Winning Practice in South Australia – Fulltime Veterinarian
Pet Universe is a progressive, high quality, small animal veterinary practice located 10 minutes from Adelaide’s CBD. With many years of veterinary experience, we have become an employer and practice of choice and Telstra Small Business Awards SA 2013 & 2015 Finalists. We were the recipients of the Australian Veterinary Associations coveted Small Animal Practice of Excellence in 2015.
Are You
- New or Recent Graduate?
Our graduate induction plan will help you practice with confidence and settle in to practice life smoothly. We have some very experienced veterinarians that will provide mentorship and support for your early years as a vet. For further information please email us at drckflee@gmail.com. - An Experienced All-rounder?
If you don’t have any special interest areas that fine. If you are keen to join an innovative practice that is about to launch another suite of services that will greatly enhance small animal recovery and quality of life then we may be the practice for you. - A Vet with a Special Interest in Feline Medicine, Surgery, Canine Rehabilitation or Radiology?
We are keen to talk to veterinarians with a special interest in feline medicine, surgery, canine rehabilitation and radiology as well as all-rounders. Opportunities exist for further training and study in these areas with our 4 Year Working Scholarships. We hold ISFM Gold Cat Accreditation at both Pet Universe Broadview & Northgate.
Dr Oberle’s thoughts on the main benefits of working at Pet Universe:
“I would stress that our nurses are highly qualified as I feel this is a huge benefit to us as vets. I would also mention that the environment is very supportive and although every vet will have primary case responsibility, there is always another doctor around to confer with, if needed. I feel this is one of the best aspects of Pet Universe and one of the most valuable both for us as vets and for our clients. Even now after 9 years with PU, the supportive work environment is still extremely important and my job satisfaction depends on it. Most of the staff members get along so well that we will plan social events with each other which creates more of a friendly and “family” atmosphere.” Dr. Kat Oberle, D.V.M.
What Does Pet Universe Stand For?
We believe in offering the very best healthcare in an innovative, professional, caring, enjoyable, consistent and value-for-money way. That’s why all our wellness procedures are designed to be affordable without compromising our standards so all routine procedures include pre-G.A.s and I.V. fluids capnography and blood pressure monitoring as standard. In addition, our standard consults are 20 minutes long or 30 minutes for new clients. This enables us to promote our unique features including Fear Free techniques for all our patients which falls in line with our Cat Friendly Gold Accreditation. We have a large number of qualified veterinary nurses and dedicated Client Relations team members. We were the first Practice in Adelaide to offer Kitten Kindy, one of the few to offer acupuncture and the first hospital to offer Medivets’ Stem Cell Therapy. We have performed over many stem cell treatments on cats and dogs and the results are outstanding. Lastly, we have some really great clients who want to do the best for their pets and say “Yes” to our treatment recommendations.
So How Do We All Stay In Touch?
Dr Chris Lee runs fortnightly vet meetings where both clinical and non-clinical issues are discussed in an informal setting. All the team get together once a month for a three-hour Practice Meeting on a Wednesday afternoon from 1- 4 p.m. to receive Practice updates, clinical updates and training sessions on a number of different topics. Socially, there always seems to be something going on with many of the team catching up outside of work to play squash, go scuba diving, fishing, wine tours or relaxing at the pub.

Provide high quality primary opinion veterinary services in-clinic and in-field to a wide variety of large animal species at individual and herd level, while making a valuable contribution to educating and mentoring the next generation of vets.
The School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences provides world-class, outcome-based education and training of animal and veterinary scientists in a research environment. Based at the Roseworthy Campus, 50km north of the Adelaide CBD and minutes from Gawler, the school is situated on a 1600 ha property that includes a working farm, full service Veterinary Health Centre teaching clinics, and a range of general purpose and specialist teaching and research facilities. The School offers five academic programs: Animal Science, Veterinary Bioscience, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Animal Behaviour and Veterinary Technology.
The Veterinary Health Centre (VHC) is the School’s clinical teaching facility which operates on a commercial basis, offering a range of first opinion, emergency and specialist referral veterinary services across all animal species to the general public and referring veterinarians. The VHC has state of the art facilities, technology and equipment, and offers an ambulatory (on farm) service and a campus-based clinic providing veterinary services to owners of production animals and horses in a wide region around Roseworthy. PORT LINCOLN, LOWER EYRE PENINSULA - FULL OR PART TIME MIXED
Has the current pandemic got you wanting to hit the eject button on the hustle and bustle of big city life?
Want to settle down in a relaxed, beautiful seaside town where your days off are spent fishing, diving, surfing, camping, hiking, horse riding, boating, kayaking (and the list goes on and on!)
Vets On Eyre, located in beautiful Port Lincoln on the Eyre Peninsula, is looking for an enthusiastic and friendly vet to join our growing team.
‘But where is the Eyre Peninsula?’ I hear you ask? It is a pretty special place, just have a look at this video: https://youtu.be/n5_ak_Zn9vs
Yep, that’s our backyard! And it could be yours too!
So there’s a million, squillion vet adds out there so WHY CHOOSE US??
- We are a rural mixed practice vet clinic with an interesting and diverse case load. We see approximately 75% small animal, 15% equine and the rest sheep and cattle.
- Our team is made up of 4 vets and lots of nurses. So. Many. Nurses!!!!! So many in-fact, that our nurse wages are always considered ‘to high’ because we’d rather have to many nurses than not enough, our vets are always well supported.
- Vaccination consults are 15 minutes and EVERYTHING ELSE is at least half an hour. Vaccines plus a specific concern? You’ll get half an hour – our nurses will always check on booking because no one likes the old ‘oh he’s been scratching a lot and can you also check his gunky eyes?’ in a 15 minute time slot!
- You’ll start at a very relaxed 9am (or 8.45am if your rostered on a surgery day).
- There’s always time blocked out during the day for not only your lunch but time to catch up.
- Because we are rural, we get to see some pretty cool stuff, but for those extra tricky cases we have an awesome orthopaedic surgeon who visits once a month and is available at any time to chat about a difficult case you may have.
- Our clients are relaxed country folk who really value what we do.
Being a rural practice we feel it is important that our patients have access to veterinary care when they need it, not just when its convenient. That being said, we do offer an after hours service. You will be highly compensated for this and with the existing vets you would only be doing one weekend in 5! Yes, after doing a weekend, you will not have to do another weekend for A WHOLE MONTH!
WHAT DO WE WANT:
A vet! Ideally comfortable with mixed practice, but new graduate/experienced/full time or part time we don’t mind! Want to locum for us first? Our latest addition did! We really want to find what works for you so we can make this a long term relationship.
So if you think you could handle living in paradise and working with a great bunch of like-minded people in a job you love, don’t delay in dropping us a line with your resume and application! We’ll happily answer any questions you might have!

- Is making a difference to the lives of companion animal owners and farmers in the community you live something you are passionate about?
- Would you like to make the most of living in one of Australia’s highly prized tourist destinations with a job that prioritises work-life balance?
- Would you like to work in a modern rural clinic with a supplied farm work vehicle and the opportunity to work with a large and exciting range of species?
- Does the idea of working with a small and supportive team who provide the time and mentoring to learn new skills and practice high quality medicine and surgery appeal to you?
Kangaroo Island Veterinary Clinic is searching for a true rural vet who is passionate about working with companion animals, horses and livestock. A strong interest in commercial wool, sheep meat and beef cattle production would be preferable. We are proud to be one of the few clinics in Australia that offer a large array of ovine services to our community. We are looking for a full time vet but would also be keen to hear from vets interested in a part time role.
Your roles within the business would include:
- Small animal consulting and surgery
- Farm animal consulting and surgery (in clinic and on farm)
- Production advice to commercial farmers and studs including sales of all related nutritional, husbandry and veterinary products
- Sheep accreditation services including OJD & OB
- Reproductive services including cattle pregnancy testing, sheep scanning, AI, ET and semen collection/freezing as well as equine AI and pregnancy scanning
- Provision of after hours services one weekend in five and one night per week with a generous on call bonus with an option for time off in lieu (the after hours load is small – we have well trained clientele)
The Kangaroo Island Veterinary Clinic has been established for 38 years. It is a rural mixed practice that sees approximately 50% small animal and wildlife, 30% ovine, 15% bovine and 5% equine work.
The newly expanded purpose-built clinic accommodates small and large animal consults and 30 minutes is the standard minimum consult time to optimise our vet-client relationship and satisfaction.
It also features a large farm animal retail section for provision of products backed by high quality, specific advice from qualified staff with a thorough understanding of animal and farming systems.
The small animal facilities are continually expanding and upgrading and include fully computerised PMS, digital x-ray, ultrasound machines, full surgical suite and full in house laboratory.
The clinic is located just 3km from Kingscote, the major town servicing the Island. You won’t be missing anything on this Island – the substantial tourism and agriculture sectors support an array of amenities locally, including various art and sporting facilities and clubs, a well equipped hospital, horse riding groups and several schools and supermarkets. It is only a short 20 minute flight to the capital city of South Australia, Adelaide. The Island is a remarkable place that provides a unique lifestyle unlike anywhere else. A lot of our team members have relocated to Kangaroo Island to enjoy what it offers with their family – an incredible unspoilt natural environment with wide expanses of beaches and bush, authentic wildlife experiences, premium local food and wine, art inspired by peaceful, wild surrounds and the opportunity for agricultural ventures.
The successful applicant will be joining our tight knit team of 5 vets and 7 support staff. You must be a team player with great enthusiasm and a good sense of humour! Remuneration for the right candidate is negotiable depending on experience and will be well above award, with annual registration fees also paid for and training in areas of special interest encouraged.
Experience is not necessary as we believe attitude is everything and skills can be developed through ongoing training – so new graduates are very welcome to apply!
Our team is our greatest asset so we make it a priority to find the right people. We want everyone to have fun, love their job and have the time to enjoy their wonderful surrounds outside of work. If you feel passionate about this role and excited to move to Kangaroo Island, then please don’t hesitate to email your written application and resume to Rachel Ripley or Elisa Nishimoto on admin@kangarooislandvet.com!
