The Animal Referral Hospital (ARH) is a well-established referral-only small animal hospital. It offers a wide range of specialist services and provides 24-hour emergency and critical care through its multiple facilities across five states in Australia. The ARH Homebush is offering a surgical internship commencing January-February 2020.

Small Animal Surgery Internship

The intern will work closely with our team of six surgery vets in Homebush (including Small Animal Surgery Specialists, Senior Surgical Registrars, Surgical Residents and Surgery Interns). They will also have close involvement with our other departments (medicine, oncology, dentistry, ophthalmology, exotics, imaging, physiotherapy and animal behaviour). He/she will assist in surgical procedures and be closely involved in the assessment, diagnosis and post operative care of a diverse variety of challenging surgical cases. The successful applicant will also spend time working within the emergency/critical care department as a primary accession clinician. Facilities include DR radiography, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, ECG, in house lab facilities, on site 64 slice CT, 1.5T MRI and radiation therapy.

Interns are expected to participate in daily rounds, regular inter-practice journal club meetings and case presentations. They will be encouraged to complete a published work during their internship and will be supported in the completion of ANZCVS surgery membership examination.

This internship offers an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated, hardworking, experienced and professional individual to work and learn in a busy and friendly referral hospital. There may be opportunities to work at any of our other sites during the 18 months. Candidates must be eligible for veterinary registration in NSW, have at least 1 year of clinical experience, excellent communication skills and a strong knowledge base on which to build. Applicants must also be eligible to work in Australia.

Above-award remuneration is on offer for this position. The successful candidate can expect to be paid a remuneration package of $75,000 - $80,000 dependent on experience. The position includes 4-weeks’ annual leave and 1-week study leave.

On Sunday 7th July 2019 we moved the veterinary hospital to new premises.

We have moved from 377 Wentworth Road to 49 Wentworth Road, Orchard Hills.

The new premises have been renovated to accommodate a veterinary hospital. The premises are huge! There are double brick walls, 3m high ceilings and a green bull nosed verandah around the front of the building. We even have a concrete driveway and carpark! There is an off leash park in the front yard for our customers and their dogs to enjoy.

We are so excited, we cannot wait for you to visit our large country practice!

Orchard Hills is in a growing area located close to Penrith and the lower Blue Mountains. We are close to the M4 motorway.

Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital has been established for more than 30 years and under the current management for 9 years.

We are located in semi rural surroundings on a 5 acre block. There has been steady development of the surrounding areas with lots of new houses being built.

We have continued to maintain steady growth and are currently offering another full or part time position for a motivated small animal veterinarian.

We have great clients that appreciate excellent communication and veterinary care in a friendly and personal manner. It is nice to get to know your clients!

We enjoy working as a team, by pooling our knowledge and skills to obtain the best outcome for our patients. We work closely with specialist hospitals, as we love getting answers!

We have Idexx in house pathology, Digital Dicom radiography, iM3 dental machine, and anaesthetic monitoring equipment. A specialist radiographer and ultrasonographer visits every Thursday. We have a visiting surgeon to perform the complicated orthopaedic and soft tissues surgeries. All of our veterinary nurses are fully qualified.

Opening hours are 8am to 7pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 2pm Saturdays, and closed for appointments on Sundays. There is minimal overtime, as we aim to leave on time each day. There is no after hours work.

The role

You will work predominantly under the guidance and mentorship of our internal medicine specialists, as well as more broadly within our team of professional veterinarians and expert nursing staff. You will also have close involvement with our other departments.

Interns are expected to participate in daily rounds, journal club meetings and case presentations. They will be encouraged to complete a published work during their internship and will be supported in the completion of ANZCVS medicine membership examination.

On the longer days, if we are quiet, there are usually a few hours in the middle of the day to have to yourself.

The clinic’s caseload is predominately small animal, however our semi-rural locality allows us to work with a variety of animals including sheep, goats, cattle, pocket pets and some wildlife cases as they arise. A knowledge in these other animals is useful but not essential.

The clinic is open 7 days a week and weekend commitments are shared, but we close at 12pm on weekends. Clinic hours are 7.30 to 7pm with consultation from 8 - 11am and 4 - 7pm and weekends are 8 - 12pm (with consultations from 9 till 12pm). Veterinarians enjoy a long weekend after every weekend worked.

Our wonderful team is currently made up of 3 veterinarians who have special interests in different areas of veterinary science and 5 veterinary nurses of different experience levels, making it a lovely friendly fun environment to work.

Established in 1962, Hornsby Veterinary Hospital is one of the oldest Veterinary practices in Sydney. We are currently seeking a part-time Veterinarian with energy and drive to contribute to our committed and compassionate team and improve the lives of pets. This role covers every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, every second Saturday and 1 in 12 Sundays 0930-1330.

The perfect candidate will be able to work independently but also as part of our close-knit team of four vets and large, capable nursing team. Sole charge will sometimes be required but is not a big part of this position, and you will always have access to our national network of support and training.

The Opportunity:

NSVSC is looking for an enthusiastic veterinarian with at least one year of experience to join our Surgery or Medicine teams in 2020 for a one-year internship.

This is a great opportunity for motivated veterinarians with an interest in pursuing further surgical or medicine training or who intend to sit memberships.

The roster is five days each week with 1 in 3 weekends – with days off either side to make up for weekend days worked.

About you:

Candidates must be eligible for veterinary registration in NSW. The position includes four weeks annual leave and one-week conference leave. We are currently seeking a Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist to join the ARH Team in our Homebush NSW facility. Homebush is located in the geographical centre of Sydney, Australia, which is known as one of the best cities in the world. This is an exciting time to join ARH as we are experiencing significant growth and expansion. We have invested heavily in new purpose built locations, equipment and facilities throughout our hospitals and have a dynamic and engaging team culture.

Facilities and equipment in our flagship hospital in Sydney include 9 fully equipped consultation  rooms, dedicated ICU and treatment areas, 3 operating theatres, highfield MRI (1.5 tesla), 64 slice CT scanner, advanced onsite medical imaging suite, multiple cardiac and general imaging ultrasound systems, endoscopy/arthroscopy/fluoroscopy, DR radiology, in house Idexx pathology laboratory, SmartFlow patient management, meeting facilities, dedicated quiet office for our specialists, staff room and facilities, supported by a 24-hour emergency service and 24-hour animal attendant, nursing and reception teams. We also currently provide off-site radiation therapy, with plans to build an onsite radiation therapy suite in the near future.

Our vets work 4 weekdays with a permanent rostered day off. Weekend work is shared between vets at approximately 1 in 3 with a long term (full calendar year) weekend roster in place. Weekends are short (Sat 9am-12pm/Sun 10am-12pm) and there is no after-hours work as we value work/life balance and refer to after-hours emergency centres.
