SMITHTON, NORTH-WEST - MIXED, MAINLY DAIRY New Graduates welcome

Veterinarian- Smithton Veterinary Services, Tasmania

Smithton Veterinary Service has a position for a new or recent graduate at their long established and expanding large dairy and mixed practice in north-west Tasmania, Australia. The position is for 90% large animal, 10% Small animal on a 9-day fortnight.

About us:
Smithton Veterinary Service is a predominantly cattle (dairy 75%, beef 5%) and small animals (20%) practice with the occasional sheep, goat, horse and wildlife seen as well.

The dairy work includes routine farm visits and emergency work, herd health programs, bull fertility testing, consultancy work (mastitis, reproduction and nutrition), lameness as well as manual and ultrasound pregnancy testing.

There is a supportive team consisting of 9 veterinarians and 3 farm technicians with a range of veterinary experience. We have a good mix of senior, mid-level and newer graduate veterinarians with most our vets having worked in the clinic for at least 5 years. Don’t know if you’re getting the most up to date support and advice? One of the vets Dr Matt Izzo is a registered cattle specialist, Dr Craig Dwyer is a go to in Australia for bull testing and large herd management. But all the vets are happy to support and mentor all new additions to the clinic.

Please click here to see photos! photos

About the position:
The on call 1: 8 - that means only 4 nights a month! We have a Tele-triage service – so you are not getting disturbed for non- emergencies! You also don’t have to start on-call until you are ready – for most new grads this is usually around the 3-month mark. Once you’ve found your feet don’t worry because ALL vets have a designated backup vet on the weekend and for weeknights there is always another vet willing to help if required!

You will be working from a modern, spacious, purpose-built clinic which includes a whole office level upstairs. We have some great toys to make our lives easier including two mobile tipper crushes, five portable ultrasounds, bull fertility testing equipment and an in-house blood analyser for large and small animals. We have all the usual small animal equipment including vetetome (dental game changer!) bone plating gear and digital radiography. We pride ourselves in being very active in farmer education through the provision of seminars and courses, and also at a higher industry level with Dairy Australia.

Apiam Benefits:
Salary is generous for new graduates plus you will receive paid AVA membership, VSB registration fees, VIN, CVE and Plumbs App subscriptions plus access to an online text and journal library. A decent car, mobile phone and relocation assistance are also part of the package.

We offer paid volunteer leave and maternity leave and plenty of other perks that come with being part of the Apiam family.

Opportunities across the Apiam clinics are encouraged, and we offer industry-leading internal training.

New and recent graduates’ benefit from our Graduate Development Program which offers mentorship, small group support and hands-on workshops.

If you are an exceptional new graduate with a genuine interest in dairy cattle and want to join our team, we would love to hear from you.

TAROONA/SANDY BAY, SOUTHERN HOBART - SMALL ANIMAL New Graduates welcome

Hi to all my vet colleagues in Hobart and afar!

It is now April 2024 - for all those veterinarians out there - full time, part time and/or casual - It is time to make a decision - either stay where you are or make a change for better working conditions, better pay and a supportive boss/management. It really is not rocket science - all it takes is a phone call to chat!

For those seeking to balance family and career – we are a family business with young children ourselves – and know the value of supporting our Dog Clinic family members.

We often see the conversations on the vet network about vets not being happy and not knowing what to do? Give us a call – or pop in for a wander round to see what the Dog Clinic experience is that our patients love.

Do you like working with good clients that are encouraged to have pet insurance?
Do you like a clinic that encourages 20 (standard), 30 and 40 min appointments?
Do you like offering the best for your patient/client but still feel you can offer 2nd/3rd options and not feel bad?
What about finishing at a reasonable hour to be with your family and friends or go for that run/cycle/bushwalk or glass of wine?
Does your boss support/understand when you or more likely your kids are sick or that your family just needs you ASAP?
How about having a clinic that actively encourages breaks and lunches?
Do you like to spend time on cases and your boss factors in/allows you that extra time to email clients and catchup on cases?

Have the help and support with a team that has over 50-60 years combined experience!

Those complicated surgeries - don't stress as we have easy access to an amazing in-house referral surgeon – an amazing training, knowledge/experience and education opportunity too.

Does your boss pay you $65+/hour or more depending on experience and hours worked – noting we are open to negotiate!

We are a small animal family owned veterinary clinic of 14+ staff and 2 locations (Taroona and Sandy Bay) with all the base/standard equipment and tools (full idexx suite, vetscan AI, Vcheck, AB titre/faecal testing, dental suite/xray, ultrasound etc) but always ready to improve and develop.

Don't wait until it is too late - life is too short - we are an inclusive clinic that works to our values of compassion, respect and excellence for our people and our pets.

Call now - 03 6227 9586 - and chat to Raj (Managing Partner and Senior Veterinarian) or our head nurse Bel.

Cheers
Raj and the team

Tasmania is an island state off the southern coast of Australia. Launceston is in the north and is one of Australia's beautiful cities - we have heritage buildings from the early 1800s, the option or rural or city living, fast internet, locally grown produce, breweries and distilleries, a wealth of things to discover on weekends from fishing, diving, skiing, music concerts, bushwalking, art galleries, wineries and more. We support local businesses and residents - a lot of your clients will own or work in businesses that you use and visit.

We are family owned and know how vital small businesses are giving back to their local economy and community.
