Experienced Mixed Practice Vet
6 month initial contract Kington,  Herefordshire

Has the Covid crisis changed your perspective on life?

Hankering after some space around you?

Our team would like to welcome an experienced mixed practice vet to join them in their rural idyll on the beautiful Herefordshire / Mid Wales Border.
Arrowfield Veterinary Practice is proud to be an independent, employee owned, rural mixed practice providing a vital community service.

We can offer a genuine mixed and varied caseload of 60% small animal, 40% farm / Equine.

Our farm work is predominantly suckler and sheep farms with a significant number of pedigree herds and flocks alongside our large and small scale commercial farms and some smallholders. We actively promote preventative health care on our farms but also enjoy the fun and challenges that calving and lambing brings.

Our small animal department has recently undergone extensive refurbishment. We have separate cat and dog wards, separate scrub area, a large prep room with two theatres, separate dental and separate imaging room. We have all the relevant equipment and experience to care for our small animal patients to a very high standard with 15 minute consults to allow plenty of time with each client.

Our equine is predominantly pleasure horses with good ties to our local referral centres as required.

We cover our own OOH supported by our fabulous team of nurses on weekends, reducing the work load significantly for our 2nd call vet. We believe in continuing to provide this all round service to our community. There is significant time off in the working week to reflect the on call commitment.

Package and hours are negotiable and commensurate with experience.

The contract is for 6 months initially to help cover the time off needed by our team after a challenging year but with the opportunity to extend this subject to mutual agreement.

The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated veterinary Surgeon to join our team. The position is full time, working 4 full days 8.30am to 5.30pm plus one half day a week. The rota is shared 1:6 for weekend and weeknight duties. All veterinary surgeons have the opportunity to consult, perform medical work ups & surgeries and spend time on the road with a nurse on different days. We are happy to accommodate specific interests, e.g. some vets perform more surgery and others more consultations, other vets prefer to be out on the road more. The vets work together to decide on where they would like to focus their attention.

About Us

We are blessed with lovely clients, and a lovely team. We focus on quality of care rather than quantity. 15 minute consults. CT scanner, laparoscopic surgery, video endoscopy, (training/CPD in all if interested) and loads of support from a very experienced team. We have 7 vets, some part time and some full time. These include an endoscopy and a CertAVP certificate holder. Our team is also comprised of 5 RVNs and several support staff plus a practice manager. We view our practice as happy, relaxed and welcoming. We all love what we do and feel privileged to be trusted with the care of the Islanders' pets. Our team cares, listens and supports each other working together to help provide the very best of customer care, understanding that we are all emotive beings that need each other’s love and support.

We are a very family orientated practice; ensuring staff get to finish the day on time and have the opportunity to attend parents’ evenings, assemblies, nativity plays, sports days, etc. We have a very strong focus on looking after each other and ensuring a good work:life balance and we look after our staff very well.

Our staff are integral in helping us continue to strive to be the best for our clients and patients and we focus on a good work:life balance, championing both mental and physical health; whilst maintaining awareness of the importance of family commitments to staff with children, hence early finishes and ample time off. In addition and looking ahead there are significant prospects for the right vet to become a more integral part of the business in a directors role.

The team is a friendly bunch, hoping to form lasting and genuine partnerships with all clients and pets. We endeavour to approach every conversation with openness, warmth and honesty. Doing the right thing is fundamentally important to us – we work hard to keep our training and development up to date and we invest in the best equipment.

The Island offers easy access to London by train. Beautiful coastal scenery, walking, cycling, surfing, sailing, etc. We support local charities and take our wider responsibilities seriously. We recycle everything we can and actively reduce waste and we are proud to be a water refill station. We love our insects too and are a Bee-Friendly practice

We always push the boundaries and ensure we are thinking about new ideas to challenge the current status quo in the veterinary industry. We strive to be leaders and not followers and take pride in being different from the rest so we can continue to provide the very best of care for our patients.

We are currently looking for a farm and equine Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly team in Truro, Cornwall. This is a full-time role working 40 hours a week over 5 days with one afternoon off from 1pm. There is a shared rota of nights and weekends currently 1 in 4 with informal reserve system. Relocation assistance is available and we can offer visa sponsorship.

Serving a wide range of farm and equine clients the majority of work is ambulatory with clinic support for some further investigations, treatment and standing surgery. Farm is a good mix of modern dairy clients, beef and sheep farmers and small holders. We perform routine fertility work, herd health planning, bull testing, Tb testing, and attending to ill individuals and outbreaks in a compact area allowing us to maintain long term relations with our friendly clients. Equine mix is a broad range of pleasure and competition work. We perform health exams, motorised dental work, AI, vetting’s, and lameness exams. At the clinic we can work up lameness with x rays and US scans, more advanced dental work, standing surgery and medical hospitalisations. Tb testing is performed and shared equally between the vets to support our on-farm service, though plenty of time for quality clinical work remains.

We work from a purpose-built clinic on the edge of the county`s capital equally accessible to the north and south coast. Our area is lovely Cornish country and coast, with Truro being the cultural and business centre. Beaches and surfing to the north, creeks and sailing and swimming to the south, and trails and hills between for walking, riding, running, and cycling. With stabling for horse`s and farm animals we can either work in the practice or provide services on farms. The clinic has cattle surgical stocks and pens for smaller patients, and farmers often bring in their animals to see us. For horses we have a sand school for lameness exams and stabling for treatments and investigations with experienced assistance and lovely support staff. We focus on a joint approach to cases and our clients, and a personal and friendly service. Case back up and advice is important to us to help our clients get the best service possible.

We have a team of 5 Veterinary Surgeons who all cover farm and equine work but also have areas of particular interest and skill. Some may bias farm or equine and all can provide input to those difficult cases. We have the support of local and regional referral services where required, though like to resolve cases ourselves where possible. A friendly and open approach is key to the team with each member valued and supported. We have lovely support staff to assist with admin and organisation of the day, and are an important part of providing our clients with a prompt and effective service .

The role would suit someone with some experience and wanting to develop skills and experience in farm and equine practice, but equally a capable new graduate can be supported into the role. A professional caring approach is required with some organisation and ability to think through situations. Back up is always provided to give our clients confidence in the service, but equally someone with self-reliance and confidence would relish the problem-solving nature of the role. We can offer relocation assistance for the right candidate for this role.

Benefits (subject to pro rata):

As a BAME and LGBT+ inclusive employer, we are keen to hear from candidates from all minority and diverse groups. As a Disability Confident Employer we are keen to hear from candidates with disabilities and long term health conditions, and would be happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments needed during the recruitment process.

Small Animal Head Vet

Are you passionate about clinical excellence and have a desire to lead, whilst still having operational support within the team?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Head Vet to join our hub of practices in West Sussex, based predominantly in our Felpham clinic.

Pet Doctors Chichester Hub comprises of three clinics in the Chichester area.  We are well established within the community and enjoy a fantastic working relationship with our loyal clients.  Our practices are well-equipped.

Our clinical team are forward thinking, progressive and always striving for excellence but we are also supportive, friendly, loyal and honest. We are incredibly proud that we have been able to build a strong, stable and respectful team that enjoy coming to work. We have a great work-up culture here and everyone is encouraged to develop their own interests. As a leader we want you to bring energy and enthusiasm along with confidence and professionalism and be able to communicate this with the team and clients with a genuine desire to support and develop your fellow vets.

In terms of working days and hours, we can be flexible. If you're looking for full-time, part-time or anything in between, let us know what you need and we'll see if we can make it work. The Trust provides a full veterinary service for animals belonging to people unable to afford private veterinary fees but who don't qualify for assistance from the major charities. Although we strive to offer an "at cost" service, no animal is turned away because of its owner's inability to pay for treatment, so to work for CHAT you will need a particular interest in, and commitment to, welfare work.

The clinics are very busy but rewarding places to work with many challenging medical and surgical cases daily as well as routine neutering of cats and dogs. We also take many orthopaedic referrals. A high standard of veterinary care is always our objective and the Trust's clinics are well-equipped with X-ray, ultrasound, haematology and biochemistry machines, endoscopes, etc.

We offer competitive salaries, according to experience, and pleasant rent-free accommodation may be available if needed. We are interested in talking to vets looking for full or part time work. We are approved for visa sponsorship.
