SPRINGVALE, SE MELBOURNE - FULL TIME SMALL ANIMAL

Sandown Veterinary Clinic is a vibrant busy small animal clinic in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne and is seeking the input of a highly professional Veterinary Surgeon(s) who is dedicated to providing a high standard of client/patient care.   Our clinic is unique in that, in addition to our fairly standard domestic practice, we have an additional interest in canine sports medicine / surgery and reproductive technologies.   The clinic sees a higher than typical surgical caseload especially in the area of orthopaedics.  This position would suit someone looking to expand their horizons beyond a typical small animal case-load. We can provide excellent mentoring and feel the position is suited to a veterinarian wanting to take their skills and knowledge to a higher level.

The clinic is well stocked with gadgets including in-house pathology, digital radiology, ultrasound imaging and fully-equipped surgical theatres.  However, our biggest asset is our fantastic staff team; who are friendly, dedicated, conscientious and a pleasure to work alongside.  Our team would like to share their workload with a colleague with a strong work ethic, a passion for the work they do, who is genuinely committed to their development as a professional and who has great people skills.

At SVC, we are very proud and honoured to be able to do the job we are entrusted but we also respect the need for work/life balance with reasonable hours, shared weekends and public holidays and minimal after hours / race meeting attendance – we ask that staff work to a high standard while on duty but want them to have the benefit of a well-rounded life outside work!

Please forward all resumes to Sarah Beasley-Hahn at sandownvc@hotmail.com

Take it from one of our Vets, Avanti, who can tell you more below:

“We are extremely passionate about advocating excellent patient health and wellbeing. By allocating reasonable consult and surgery schedules, there is actually time for patient follow up, best care practices and client care.

Of course there can be unexpected busy times, but we respect life outside work and encourage leaving on time. Through flexible rostering, we promote the pursuit of outside interests and hobbies, and keep 1 in 3 weekends (Saturday 830-3 and Sunday 10-1) lifestyle friendly.

Constructive communication skills to clients and team members is highly regarded. Our small team (Dr Anne, myself and 3 nurses) are a long-established clinic currently in the process of expanding into new, purpose built premises in March 2019 which will see our stress-free handling practices more easily performed through a feline-friendly separate waiting area, 3 consult rooms, sterile theatre, ICU, dedicated isolation and grooming facilities.

Total patient wellbeing, including mental health, is the essence of who we are.
I can honestly say I don't think I have achieved better work-life balance in my life than while working Flemington Veterinary Hospital. I can enjoy being a vet while still having time for hobbies and spending time with friends, family and my cheeky cats!

And most importantly, 5-star, Melbourne-grade coffee within 50m, wine bar literally across the road and a tram stop right out the front. Working a Friday night has never been more accommodating of a social life!”

FRANKSTON - SMALL ANIMALS

Who says that your life must be all work and no play? We like to think that you can achieve your dreams of overseas travel and world class continuing education; all while working at an awesome small animal ASAV accredited hospital – AND WE’LL PAY FOR IT ALL!

Our veterinarians are encouraged and paid to attend conferences around the world to learn about new and exciting things that make our work better and more fun while improving patient care and treatment options. Here is an insight into the recent and upcoming adventures of our Veterinarians:

If you are a self-motivated small animal veterinarian with 2+ years’ experience, enthusiastic about developing your skills in a small animal ASAV accredited, fun-loving (yes really) team orientated hospital, then this is the job for you.

We are ready to commit to someone with remarkable communication skills who values the importance of building strong relationships with clients and their pets. You will be working within a family of dedicated and experienced veterinarians and support staff, so you will need to work well in a team as well as having the ability to manage surgical and consulting workloads.

Your experience and leadership skills will be invaluable in helping the team achieve this and keep the hospital running smoothly at all times.

Our purpose at Karingal Veterinary Hospital is to support and nurture the special bond between our human clients and their pets by helping make sure these animals live lives that are as healthy and happy as possible. We provide a caring environment to deliver high quality surgery and medicine, with a strong focus on preventative healthcare. We are a 100% small animal hospital, in a modern purpose-built facility employing 9 veterinarians.

Our branch practice, Ballam Park Veterinary Clinic, which is a sole charge clinic, is situated within close proximity to the hospital (a leisurely 200m stroll). The successful candidate will be required to work at this clinic (likely once a week) giving you the opportunity to demonstrate your skills in a small clinic environment with the ability to use your judgment and make critical decisions yourself (while still being close to support and all the facilities at Karingal Veterinary Hospital should they be required).

The hours are pretty good

Working an average of 38-40 hours a week with a regular weekday off, your alternating shifts will consist of an 8hr consulting shift or 11hr surgical and evening consulting shift (allowing for continuity and follow through of surgical discharges). Given we are open every weekend (Saturday 9am-5pm & Sunday 9am-1pm), you would be expected to take part in the weekend rotation which is currently 1 in 5. But don’t worry, we do not open for after hours, on call work, or public holidays meaning more time for you to spend with family and friends.

And the work can be rewarding

You will be carrying out a variety of practice procedures including:

  1. Consults with patients (first and second opinion)
  2. General soft tissue surgery (if you can perform orthopaedics then even better).
  3. Diagnosing and managing the common medical problems we see in general practice
  4. Diagnostic laboratory work
  5. Using X-Rays and ultrasound to diagnose your patients.
  6. Scaling/polishing and extracting teeth in cats and dogs making use of digital dental X-rays.

At the hospital we see an interesting and varied caseload. At times it can be busy but we have an excellent support staff to vet ratio to help manage this. We aim to stay ahead of the pack with regards to the equipment available to provide top quality care and are equipped with the latest imaging, surgical and monitoring equipment including DR digital dental x-ray, CR digital radiology, endoscopy, electrocautery, multiple Surgivet Anaesthesia monitors, Colour Doppler Ultrasound and class 4 laser therapy.

Please click here to see photos! photos

Location
Karingal Veterinary Hospital and Ballam Park Veterinary Clinic are both located 5 minutes from the beaches of Port Phillip and 15 minutes from the wineries of the Mornington Peninsula.

The pay
The reward for your hard work and dedication will be in line with your level of experience with the exact pay rate dependant on how well your amazing skills meet our requirements.  You will also benefit from paid conference leave in addition to the budget to get you there.
