Our shifts cover mornings, evenings and on call across 7 days so you should get to experience a wide variety of cases depending on your preferences.

We don’t necessarily need surgical shift cover so if surgery isn’t your thing that’s completely fine.

We see mainly dogs and cats, and our caseload also includes a smaller but interesting exotic animal component. We have a lot of training resources if you need some training or help with your exotics.

You will be supported by a fantastic Nursing team, and we have most of the toys that make Veterinary practice fun and permit a satisfying, complete case work up. We use a lot of modern technology in our client communication, education, and in-house patient care. Our practice software is Ezyvet, which integrates with Smartflow out the back, and our digital S8 book, allowing us to begin the transition to becoming paper-free.

Surgical procedures commonly performed include two-port laparoscopic assisted ovariectomies, prophylactic gastropexies, laparoscopic assisted liver biopsies. Routine orthopaedics performed include TCT +/- trochleoplasty, extracapsular cruciate repair techniques (tight rope) and FHO. Soft tissue surgery such as exploratory laparotomy, gastrotomy, enterotomy, cystotomy, pedicle flaps and simple reconstructive techniques are frequently performed. TPLOs are performed by a roving specialist surgeon.

Our Team
We have a fantastic team of 3 vets & 6 nurses.  We aim to keep as many medical and surgical cases in house as possible so perform a full range of both soft tissue and orthopaedic procedures.  We use a consulting medical specialist to perform our ultrasounds onsite, and have a roving surgeon for specialist surgeries (eg. TPLOs). Our nurses are well trained and are able to place catheters, take blood samples, take X-rays and assist in consultations – making your life much easier!

We have vets on staff who have been with the AEC for over 10 years and have membership qualifications as well as a residency program. AEC Frankston and AEC Mount Waverley are looking for a full-time veterinarian to join our team to cover a 12 month period of maternity leave! In line with the operating hours of the centre you will be required to work weekends, days, nights and public holiday shifts allowing for a flexible roster.  There is a mixture of sole charge work and work with other vets on shift as we continue to increase our staffing in-line with our expanding business.

We have vets on staff who have been with the AEC for over 10 years and have membership qualifications as well as a residency program.  We have vets with specific training and mentoring roles to ensure that we can help you grow and learn in ECC.  We aim to provide a supportive environment and focus on your training and development.  We provide formal orientation and a 12 module induction program, provide supervised time on shift with a senior vet for one-on-one learning, fortnightly didactic training groups, Journal club, MMR as well as VIN, AVA and VECCS memberships. We also provide support for study towards membership examination.  We offer 5 weeks paid annual leave and access to a continuing education allowance and 1 week paid study leave.
