GRADUATE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
MOUNT WAVERLEY & FRANKSTON, VIC

The Animal Emergency Centre is looking for a veterinarian with 1-2 years’ experience for our industry leading Graduate Development Program to be run between Mt Waverley AEC and Frankston AEC.

This is a two-year, intensive program designed to cultivate excellence in all aspects of emergency and critical care medicine and surgery. Clinical duties will be heavily supervised by Membership qualified and experienced emergency and critical care veterinarians. In addition, there is structured didactic teaching, including practical classes, and training with specialists in the related disciplines of surgery, internal medicine and clinical pathology. The program will also allow the graduate to gain experience in clinical research, scientific presentation and scientific manuscript preparation. The program will meet all internship requirements for those individuals wishing to pursue residency training but would be beneficial for any graduate wishing to accelerate their learning curve.

The successful applicant will be motivated to be the best veterinarian they can be and be committed to providing the best care for their patients. They will require excellent organisational and communication skills and will need to be flexible in their rostering in order to attend the didactic training requirements.

The position would suit an energetic, motivated veterinarian with a minimum of 18 months clinical experience, who is interested in learning more about emergency and critical care, in a challenging but supported environment.

We believe our team is our best asset. Under the mentorship our ECC specialist and 6 other senior emergency vets who have achieved MANZCVS, PG Cert and/or residency training, the junior ECC vet program includes rotation through daytime, night-time, evening and weekend shifts.  Four weeks annual leave, 1 week paid study leave, and a salary above the award is offered. Regular case discussion, in-house training and daily interactions with specialists in all departments at our hospital will enhance the learning experience during your time with us.

About the role

Vet Required for Small Animal Practice in Moonee Ponds (northern suburbs of Melbourne.) Patients exclusively dogs and cats.

We are looking for someone who is a good team player and who will be directed in daily duties by the other Vets. Someone who is organised and can get through a busy workload.

About the Practice

Moonee Central Vet was established 21 years ago and grown to be a 3 Vet practice which employs 7 nurses on a casual and permanent basis.

The Clinic is fully equipped with digital Xray, a Mylab 30 Gold Ultrasound, an In-House Laboratory facility (Idexx Catalyst One and Procyte Dx) and full surgical facilities with two tables, Forthane anaesthetic machines, surgical Lights and Oxygen Generators.  Bircher electrocautery machine.  Blood pressure machine.  Apalert and Sinohero patient monitor.  Many intravenous infusion pumps.  Tonometer for measuring intraocular pressure.  Microscope.

We do a lot of surgery including repairing ruptured ACL and dislocating patellars.  All sorts of abdominal surgery including removing liver lobes,  spleens with haemangioma, removing necrotic loops of bowel, orthopaedic surgery including plating, eye surgery including cherry eye, entropion, 3rd eyelid flap, conjunctival grafts, enucleation…ear surgery including total ear ablation…removal of large skin masses including z plasty.

We manage advanced medical cases including Addison’s disease, Cushings Disease, Diabetes, Cholangiohepatitis, Pancreatitis, Heart failure in cats, we do in house ultrasound guided needle biopsy and fine needle aspirates.  We do in house abdominal and heart ultrasound (have phased array probe and three other probes).  We can do most blood tests in house including electrolytes, full range of biochemistry and haematology, full range of in-house snap tests including canine and feline specific lipase…. we can do full urinalysis and have Idexx Urinanalizer and specific gravity.  We interpret most FNA samples in house and regularly diagnose Mast cell tumours, soft tissue sarcoma, splenic sarcomas.

The ICU Veterinarian position involves primary responsibility for the care and treatment of referred and primary accession cases arriving through the Emergency department, as well as assistance in the care of hospitalised patients from our specialist departments. Management of cases often involves contributions from multiple specialist disciplines, providing an excellent opportunity for learning and case follow-up.

The role can be part-time or full-time, with our emphasis on finding the right person to suit the team.
