The Work Itself

One of our wonderful Vets is expecting a new arrival in their family soon and we are on the lookout for a veterinarian to join the team for a fixed term period.

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Small Animal Veterinarian to join us, ideally part time (around 35 hours) for 6 months – starting July 2024.

Delahey Veterinary Clinic is a small animal practice, providing veterinary service at the highest level.

Who we are:

Clinic space: purpose built, open, spacious, 1 theatre, 3 consulting rooms, separate x-ray and prep rooms, dental suite.
Dedicated clients committed to the health of their animals - mixed profile, generally young professionals - for many of which their pets are their fur babies
Team profile: Permanent vets are easy-going in personality and team players - we have lots of informal catchups to discuss cases and collaborate. The nurse team is a mix of junior and experienced nurses.

Nitty gritty:

The usual roster is 35 hours split over 4 days (3x 10 hour, 1x 5 hour)- BUT WE ARE FLEXIBLE
Rotating roster: surgery and consultation shifts, 6:12 Saturdays (5 hour day) 6:12 Tuesdays (5hour day)
The clinic is open 8-6 weekdays and 8-1 Saturdays
We try to ensure that the vets leave on time and are not too rushed. Appointments usually 15 min for vaccinations, 30 minutes for problem-based consults. Scheduled path time in the day.
We have weekly clinic meetings on Thursdays during which the clinic is closed for 1 hours to go through positives of the week and any concerns that staff members may have.

Advanced Vetcare is a 24hr Emergency and Specialist Animal Hospital situated in central Melbourne. Our centre is a well-equipped modern hospital with over 30 veterinarians and Specialist Surgical, Medical and Oncological services. Advanced Vetcare operates out of three practices in Kensington, Kew and Geelong. The position is flexible with part-time to full-time hours and consideration is given to your preferred work location. A postgraduate qualification allowing registration as a specialist is preferred, however, credentialed oncology specialist exam candidates are welcome to apply.

Our centres are well-equipped modern hospitals with a 64-slice CT (3 machines) and digital radiography in each location, excellent ultrasound machines (Siemens x700, x300, Juniper x 2 and Mindray M8) with echocardiography and flat panel fluoroscopy allowing excellent diagnostic capability. We perform interventional procedures and we are introducing intra-arterial chemotherapy and chemoembolization for our oncology patients. We have in-house clinical pathology and a close relationship with our external pathologists!

Our oncology team is led by specialist veterinary oncologist, Dr Laura Brockley, with an oncology resident, Dr Jessica Morey, an oncology intern and excellent nursing support completing the department. The oncology team works closely with specialist medical and surgical colleagues in the practice and is supported by 24-hour emergency and critical care at our Kensington site. We enjoy having a multi-discipline approach to our cancer patients, placing an emphasis on compassionate care and quality of life.

Job Description
As the Veterinary Director, you would be responsible for overseeing the overall clinical operations of the practice, including managing the veterinary team, ensuring excellent patient care, and maintaining strong client relationships. The successful applicant will receive extensive experience in the daily management of the equine athlete and in veterinary management of large racing stables. Applicants will be involved with supervised and first-opinion consultations, with the level of supervision dependent on the development of skills and confidence. Exposure to lameness examinations, pre-purchase examinations (including yearling sales), international quarantine, digital radiography, ultrasonography, telemetric ECG, overground endoscopy, resting endoscopy, and lower airway diagnostics are commonplace in this practice. Key Responsibilities:

Leadership:

Identify and implement opportunities to improve operational efficiency and organization within the Emergency/ICU department.
Maintain regular communication and strategic alignment with the Business Manager and Heads of Department.
Organize regular Emergency/ICU veterinary staff meetings in collaboration with the Clinical Director for operational and educational purposes.
Act as the primary contact for veterinarians within the Emergency/ICU department for operational concerns or feedback.

Operational / Clinical:

Provide a high standard of clinical care to the animals presented to the ECC/ICU Department at CARE.
Participate in the veterinary clinical roster within the ICU; 50% of the roster is to be clinically based. The distribution of shifts to be at the discretion of the Veterinary Manager.
Supervise and support ICU clinicians. Occasional weekend or evening/night attendance may be required.
With Head Nurse ECC, CS manager, and HM develop and maintain effective workflow and triage processes.
Monitor and ensure appropriate communication practices both with referring veterinarians and patient owners as well as within the Emergency/ICU department and between the Emergency/ICU department and other sections of the hospital.

Workforce Management and Planning:

Develop effective strategies for managing absenteeism within the veterinary staffing of the Emergency/ICU department.
Plan and implement Emergency/ICU veterinary rosters and shifts.
In concert with the Nursing Manager, recruit veterinary and nursing staff for the Emergency/ICU department as approved by general management.

Clinical Quality and Safety:

Support the implementation of systems to ensure patient safety and support the response to clinical incidents and continuous improvement.
Assist in the organization of meetings, rounds, and Journal clubs.

Sustainability and Growth:

Monitor, research/review, and implement appropriate charging practices within the Emergency/ICU department.
Establish and maintain rapport with referring veterinarians, clients, and other staff members of CARE.
Identify opportunities and develop strategies to improve the client experience in the ECC department.
Drive Performance and Development activities for the ECC team to promote engagement and retention.
Identify opportunities to improve workflows and reduce waste in the department.

Qualifications:

Veterinary degree registrable in Victoria with a proven history of senior leadership.
Ideally a member of the Australian & New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Emergency & Critical Care or equivalent.
Experience using EzyVet and Smartflow veterinary software.
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Adherence to professional conduct, accuracy, and detail.
Effective communication skills with clients and team members, demonstrating confidence, empathy, and a commitment to continuing education.

About the Role

Veterinary position available – Small animal coastal practice close to Melbourne

We are looking for a new member of our experienced team at Westernport Vet Clinics, on the Mornington Peninsula.

Who are we looking for?
Someone who thinks they would fit well into our great team. We are open to a full or part time experienced veterinarian.

Why are we a great team to work with?

We are a non-corporate, independent veterinary practice, are constantly striving to do things better, and are open to input and ideas from our whole team.
We have a strong community focus – most of our team live and work in our community. We like to provide support for our local story dogs, fire brigade, sporting teams, bowls club, pet show and the agricultural show.
Half hour consults are standard for most appointments.
A two-hour ‘non consult’ time is blocked in the middle of the day to help allow time for call-backs, pathology follow up, medication repeats etc
No after hours - the phone is switched over to our local emergency centre after hours, and we don’t open Sundays.
The Saturday roster is shared with all vets so the rotation is 1:4, and the Saturday worked is supported by three other vets.
We have a high nurse to vet ratio (approx. 2:1) to allow plenty of support to surgical and consulting vets.
We have all the toys to support great case work-up, including Mindray M9 ultrasound, digital radiology, the latest IDEXX in-house blood testing including clotting profiles, dental radiography, vetome, ECG, capnograph, patient warmers, IM3 dental unit, Stryker drill kits and plating kits, TPLO kit, video endoscopy including ENT scope, digital bronchoscope and gastroscope.

The Position

The ECC Veterinary Manager position is a frontline management role with a 50/50 blend of clinical and management duties. The Veterinary Manager will support our leadership and specialist teams in the coordination of clinical mentorship and continuing education of less experienced veterinarians and interns within the department.

This role provides professional, personal and organisational leadership for the veterinary staff of the Emergency/ICU department of the hospital and in coordination with the Hospital Manager, Nursing Manager and Leadership teams to uphold and promote the general ethos of ARH Essendon Fields in a financially sustainable way. Qualifications

Desirable:
