AUCKLAND - RESIDENCY IN SMALL ANIMAL SURGERY

Resident In Small Animal Surgery

Animal Referral Centre (ARC) is currently recruiting for a Resident in Small Animal Surgery. The residency programme is approved by the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS). The residency is 3 years in duration, and will prepare the Resident for ECVS Board Exams in order to obtain specialist status.

OUR PRACTICE

Our surgical caseload includes soft tissue surgeries (including surgical oncology cases), orthopaedic and neurology surgeries. Surgical theatres are fully equipped for arthroscopy, orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures.

We are well equipped with Synthes orthopaedic kits and power tools, surgical stapling equipment, Ligasure vessel sealing technology, IMEX ESF and HD arthroscopy. The clinic has a 64 slice Siemens CT, digital radiography, C-arm image intensification, ultrasound, endoscopy, mechanical ventilation, and dedicated cat and dog receptions, consulting rooms and treatment areas. We have a new rehabilitation centre with an underwater treadmill, operated by 2 canine hydrotherapists. We have access to off-site 3T MRI and radiation therapy.

The residency programme is supported by an excellent multi-disciplinary team with specialists in small animal internal medicine, diagnostic imaging and dermatology on site, and a visiting cardiologist. Pathology and anaesthesia rotations have been arranged off-site for the residency programme.

The specialist services provided by the practice are supported by a team of dedicated emergency veterinarians and nurses, who enable 24-7 patient care.

The Animal Emergency Centre is looking for a veterinarian with 1-2 years’ experience for our industry leading Graduate Development Program to be run between Mt Waverley AEC and Frankston AEC.

This is a two-year, intensive program designed to cultivate excellence in all aspects of emergency and critical care medicine and surgery. Clinical duties will be heavily supervised by Membership qualified and experienced emergency and critical care veterinarians. In addition, there is structured didactic teaching, including practical classes, and training with specialists in the related disciplines of surgery, internal medicine and clinical pathology. The program will also allow the graduate to gain experience in clinical research, scientific presentation and scientific manuscript preparation. The program will meet all internship requirements for those individuals wishing to pursue residency training but would be beneficial for any graduate wishing to accelerate their learning curve.

The successful applicant will be motivated to be the best veterinarian they can be and be committed to providing the best care for their patients. They will require excellent organisational and communication skills and will need to be flexible in their rostering in order to attend the didactic training requirements.

Queensland Veterinary Specialists and Pet Emergency share two facilities across Brisbane’s northside, providing referral soft tissue surgery, orthopaedic surgery, internal medicine, oncology, dermatology, theriogenology, diagnostic imaging, critical care and emergency medicine.

Internship positions are available from January 2021 for 12 months

South Eastern Equine Hospital is an Equine referral hospital situated in the south east of Melbourne. The hospital is staffed by 2 specialists in Equine Surgery, an internal medicine specialist, 3 experienced veterinarians and 3 interns. We also have a specialist ophthalmologist visit the practice on a weekly basis and consult with a specialist veterinary anaesthetist. The hospital caseload consists of referral and primary accessions with a mixture of surgical and medicine cases and some assisted reproduction during the breeding season.

The successful applicant will gain experience in surgery, medicine, anaesthesia, reproduction, ophthalmology and diagnostic imaging. They will assist in the diagnosis and treatment of hospital cases and be rostered for afterhours work.

The Adelaide Specialist and Referral Centre invites applications for Internal Medicine internships. The Centre also provides services in Surgery, Dermatology and Animal Physiotherapy and is supported by an emergency and critical care service, Adelaide Veterinary Emergency Centre.

The internal medicine service is directed by Dr David Davies FACVSc (Canine Medicine) and provides a comprehensive referral service in all aspects of internal medicine including cardiology, oncology and neurology. The successful applicant will assist in all aspects of case management including in-patient care, communication with clients and referring veterinarians, in-patient procedures, CT, off-site MRI scans and admission of urgent medical referrals.

Interns are expected to be highly enthusiastic and thrive with a demanding workload. Preparation of a publication and presentation at a scientific conference is greatly encouraged.

The ultimate aim of an internship is to prepare an intern to enter into a residency program or to source employment in a high standard equine general practice.

The School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences offers equine internships each year through its Equine Health and Performance Centre located at the Roseworthy Campus. The internship is a 12 month full time professional (clinical) formative program aiming to help the intern to develop capacity to identify and solve medical problems within the disciplines, the ability to work-up a case with medical written and oral expression skills, and to teach non graduated students the elements of day one skills as described in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program.

The ultimate aim of the Internship is to prepare the intern to enter a specialty college qualifying (residency) program or to prepare to enter a high standard level of equine general practice. The program is also based on and encounters the guidelines of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Professional Development Phase (PDP) for those Interns who registered for this program.

The intern will rotate through first opinion, medicine, surgery, anaesthesiology services. The intern will work as part of the clinical team through a hospital roster, which includes weekends and public holidays. The intern will present a seminar and contribute to a research project during the 12 months. At the commencement of the program interns will be provided with a mentor to assist with meeting the objectives and expectations of the internship.

We are offering one veterinary internship position of up to 12 months, for a new or recent graduate wishing to gain experience in an equine veterinary practice. Please note that to be eligible, applicants must have full rights to work in Australia and be registerable by the New South Wales Veterinary Practitioners Board. The position will commence when a suitable applicant is found.

The position involves assisting with hospital in-patient care, monitoring intensive care patients, assistance with medical and surgical case investigations, some exposure to ambulatory practice and after hours calls, as well as limited exposure to routine and advanced artificial breeding procedures. Remuneration includes an annual salary as per the ACVS Modern Award 2010 (currently $54,829), plus superannuation, 1 week of paid study leave (includes course fees for approved course) and 4 weeks annual leave per annum. NSW State registration and AVA Professional Association fees are also paid.
