AEC Moorabbin is a purpose built, 24-hour Emergency Centre. We have an outstanding team of Vets and Nurses who are knowledgeable, friendly and highly supportive. We practice an exceptionally high standard of care for all our patients.

We are now taking applications for the next intake of our Graduate Development Program. This is a 24-month immersion program in small animal emergency and critical care medicine paving the way for a residency, graduate degree study or entry into a high-quality small animal veterinary practice.  The program will provide you with the training and the clinical case exposure to acquire advanced knowledge and skills in small animal emergency and critical care. The position is suitable for a recent graduate or a new graduate of exceptional standards and will commence early 2021. 

The centre is equipped with gold star equipment including; digital radiographs, in house bloods (CBC, biochemistry, EPOC, PT/APTT), a MyLAB30 gold ultrasound and a VIVID3 cardiac ultrasound, three ventilators including a Puritan Bennet, humidicribs, an oxygen generator, a spacious surgery, a defibrillator and Surgivet, DASH and Cardell monitors.  Our patients are frequently insured and willing to pursue the gold standard of treatment. We have an extensive library of protocols to support you, however critical & lateral thinking and treating each case individually is highly encouraged. We have visiting cardiologists, internal medicine ultrasonographers and a close relationship with both surgical and internal medicine specialists.

We will provide you with five weeks annual leave, one-week CE leave, 10 days personal leave, financial CE support, VIN & Plumb online membership.  Clinical shifts are a combination of days, nights, weekdays, weekends and public holidays.

The internship will be supervised by Dr. David Rutherford, a Recognised Specialist in Equine Surgery (Dip ECVS), with additional training from vets who specialise in other areas. Through working as part of the team at our busy clinic you will receive training in lameness diagnosis, imaging, stud medicine, internal medicine, anaesthesia and dentistry. We also work closely with a visiting specialist ophthalmologist, repro vet and remedial farrier.

You will take part in an equally shared ‘on call’ roster with support and back-up always available.

You must hold a veterinary degree registerable in WA. Assistance with visas and sponsorship can be provided, but due to current travel restrictions, it is likely that you will need to already be resident in Australia or New Zealand, or possibly an Australian citizen returning from overseas.

Renumeration:
Renumeration will be generous and on-site accommodation will be available.

Currently, we have a brilliant internal medicine specialist team consisting of Dr Karina Graham, Dr Amy Pepper and Dr Matteo Bordicchia (registrar) with strong skills in interventional radiology and are looking for full time medicine intern to be a key member of the team. We are complimented by six surgical specialists (USA & UK). We have just opened our brand-new world class specialist and emergency centre, Advanced Treatment Centre (ATC) and also offer a mobile specialist service to our local veterinarians around Sydney.

We hold ourselves to the highest standards and are well-equipped, including in-house 1.5T MRI, a 64 slice CT, mobile digital x-ray, an extensive array of endoscopic equipment and ultrasound including echocardiography. We have a brand-new state-of-the-art Philips Zenition c-arm with new flat screen technology for dramatically less radiation exposure and a diode laser for minimally invasive procedures for our dedicated interventional radiology (IR) department. The role

You will also have close involvement with our other departments and for those with interest in other disciplines there is opportunity to increase exposure to these during the internship.

Interns are expected to participate in daily rounds, as well as regular journal club meetings and case presentations.

Training

An internship at AES provides an opportunity for recent graduates to establish a career in emergency critical care medicine & surgery under the guidance of experienced clinicians. The objective of this program is to train individuals to be outstanding veterinarians with a focus on clinical excellence. The first months of the internship will be directly mentored by a group of friendly and experienced emergency veterinarians and will have the support of senior clinicians any time you’re on shift. Training will involve attending consultations and assisting with diagnostic investigations, surgical procedures, client communication and maintenance of high-quality medical records. Interns will then progress to taking primary case management under supervision allowing them to develop the confidence and clinical skill needed in this challenging field of veterinary medicine.

Our Offer to You

The internship phase of your emergency career with AES is 6 months. Remuneration during this phase is $60k/year + 9.5% super for full-time hours where you are rostered 120-135 clinical hours and 17-25 hours study per month.

After 6 months and upon graduation from the program you join our consulting vet roster and transition to a ProSal salary arrangement (base compensation PLUS percentage of production). Depending on the vet, salary can increase from $70-100k/year.

Veterinary Specialist Services is a group of referral hospitals, dedicated to providing the best possible care to our patients, clients and referring veterinarians. Established in 2000, VSS now has three, fully equipped hospitals located at Underwood, Jindalee and Carrara.

The role

We are offering a 12-month internship commencing in 2021.

Interns will rotate through the referral services including Surgery and Internal Medicine. This is a fulltime training position which will prepare successful interns to further their career whether this be in general practice or advanced and specialist small animal practice.  Please note we may also advertise separately for internships within a specific discipline.

The opportunity to spend time in the disciplines of Dermatology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Dentistry, and Animal Physiotherapy is also available. 

Participation in clinical rounds, medical and surgical journal clubs, presentation at seminars and the preparation of a paper for publication is expected of the successful candidates.

It’s that time of year again, Newcastle Equine Centre has 2 x 12-month internship positions available with a July 2021 start date. This is available for an Australian or New Zealand new graduate or any veterinarian currently living in Australia or New Zealand who would like more intensive equine experience. This internship offers the opportunity to experience both general, reproductive and referral equine practice with a team of experienced equine practitioners, a specialist equine surgeon, an equine internal medicine specialist, and a theriogenology specialist.

Our practice is located in beautiful Newcastle adjacent to Newcastle Racecourse and five minutes from many of the most beautiful beaches in NSW. We have an interesting and highly varied caseload of both first opinion and referral cases servicing approximately 25% Thoroughbred racehorses, 25% Standardbred pacers, 25% performance/pleasure horses and 25% stud medicine. We operate using state of the art diagnostic equipment including digital radiography units, colour flow doppler ultrasound, video endoscopy, dynamic endoscopy, hand held ECG unit, laser and a fully equipped in house laboratory.

The successful applicants will receive experience in the fields of surgery, anaesthesia, medicine, lameness, reproduction, laboratory procedures and imaging (radiology, ultrasonography, endoscopy and dynamic endoscopy) with continuous senior staff support.

The successful interns will have an internship program tailored to their interests and will include involvement in the diagnosis and treatment of hospital cases as well as general ambulatory work, reproduction and attendance at trotting meetings. Afterhours on call duties are covered by the team of associate veterinarians, with the interns sharing a 1-in-3 secondary back-up for assistance and night treatments until their skills are established.

Applicants must be eligible to work and register as a Veterinary Surgeon in New South Wales and must already be residing in Australia or New Zealand as it is difficult to get overseas applicants into the country due to travel restrictions. The Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre (MVSC) is a multi-disciplinary specialist veterinary centre providing services to referring veterinary practices within Metropolitan Melbourne and Regional Victoria from two locations (Glen Waverley and Essendon).

The surgery team is seeking a motivated and passionate veterinarian to be our next surgical intern, based at the Glen Waverley hospital. The successful intern will work closely with the surgical specialist and a team of dedicated and experienced surgical nurses. The position is full-time and involves a four-day working week (with some additional Saturdays). We offer four weeks of annual leave + 1-week conference/study leave (with conference allowance paid).

The aim of this position is to provide the successful candidate with extensive exposure to and preliminary training in all areas of Small Animal Surgery. The position would be well suited to candidates who wish to continue with further surgical training/surgical residency in the future. This three-year, full-time program meets all the requirements of the European College of Veterinary Surgery and will prepare the resident for examination for diplomate status as well as enable a successful applicant to fulfil the credentialing requirements for specialisation through specialist examination by the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists if desired. The residency is supported by 2.5 ECVS or ACVS board certified specialists, one ACVSMR specialist, and 1.5 registrars and the service is staffed by 1-2 additional ECVS residents, 1-2 surgery specialty interns, 6 rotating small animal interns and 6 surgery veterinary nurses.

Residents will manage cases under direct and indirect supervision of a surgeon and interact closely with specialists and residents in many fields to encourage a collaborative approach to learning and patient care. Residents would be required to participate in daily patient rounds, journal club, morbidity and mortality rounds and resident pathophysiology seminars. Residents will be expected to assist in teaching senior veterinary students through lectures, tutorials, practicals and during clinic rotations.

This program requires completion of concurrent Masters degrees with coursework and research. A tax-free stipend of $43,500 pa is available for the most outstanding applicant.

Matamata Veterinary Services is seeking applicants for our staggered equine internship programme, with the next position commencing 1st August this year.

You will work as part of our equine team, based at our purpose built hospital. Our team consists of 17 veterinarians, including three other interns, supported by eight nurses and four office staff.

The internship position is primarily hospital based. Caseload is high and varied, including medicine, surgery, some reproduction, lameness and other performance horse work. You will have the opportunity to work alongside an experienced group of practitioners with a wide range of skills, including two board-certified surgeons and a board-certified theriogenologist. Formal tuition and mentoring are part of this package.
