COLLINGWOOD, INNER MELBOURNE, VIC - FULL TIME INTERNSHIPS, TWO POSITIONS New Position

Internships in Small Animal Surgery & Small Animal Internal Medicine (Two Positions) - Melbourne, Victoria

The Centre for Animal Referral and Emergency (CARE), a well-equipped, multi-specialist veterinary hospital located in Collingwood on the fringe of Melbourne city, is offering two new internships; one in small animal surgery and one in small animal internal medicine.

About CARE
CARE is a busy multi-specialist veterinary hospital located in Collingwood (3km from Melbourne’s CBD centre). It is a fast-growing, privately owned clinic with an ever-increasing caseload. We aim for gold standard patient care at all times and pride ourselves on having a cohesive, friendly working environment. We strive for excellent relationships with our referring veterinarians and clients. The hospital is staffed by an outstanding team of emergency veterinarians and nurses, working alongside specialists in internal medicine, emergency and critical care, surgery, radiology, and neurology.

We are a well-equipped centre with in-house 16-slice CT, ultrasound, digital subtraction fluoroscopy, computed radiography suite, in-house clinical pathology (including Idexx biochemistry, Radiometer blood-gas analysis, PT/APTT), endoscopy, advanced surgical monitoring, ventilation and regular off-site access to MRI. We are committed to the continued development of the facility and its instrumentation, to ensure that contemporary and newly developed techniques and practices are available for our patients.

The Opportunity
These positions involve assistance with all aspects of the caseload of the relevant department, providing an excellent opportunity for exposure to an interesting and challenging caseload, and an introduction to referral practice in the discipline. The successful candidate for the surgical position will work with our two specialist surgeons, Drs Guy Yates and Brenton Chambers, a surgical registrar and a surgical resident. The internal medicine position will work closely with three specialists: Drs Linda Abraham, Karen Brenner and Sophie Haynes. In each case, the internship positions will be supported by highly qualified and dedicated teams of nursing staff.

Although the positions are exclusive to either the surgery or internal medicine departments, the staff is strongly team-oriented and a preparedness to assist and integrate with the other disciplines within the hospital would be expected.

About You
The roles would suit highly motivated, hard-working and enthusiastic veterinarians with a minimum of 12 months practical experience and a strong interest in the appropriate discipline, as well as the pursuit of specialist training. Ideally, you are someone who shares our strong emphasis on the standard of patient care and optimizing treatment outcomes through thoughtful case management and discussion. You should be comfortable, genuine and effective in their written and verbal communication with clients, referring veterinarians and other hospital staff, cooperating with and complementing the existing team.

About the Position
The positions are full-time, and depending on caseload, have the potential to involve some after-hours or weekend surgery or case management. Beyond the busy clinical aspects of these positions though, there will be a commitment to supporting the professional development of the successful applicants. Consistent with this, attendance at regular rounds and journal club meetings would be expected. Enrolment for Membership examinations of the Australian & New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists and submission of at least one scientific article for publication will also be strongly encouraged during the term of the internship. Remuneration is competitive and includes 4-weeks annual leave plus 1-week study leave.

How to Apply
Applications and enquiries should be directed to Ms Kelley Johnson via email (kjohnson@carevet.com.au) or phone (03 9417 6417).

Applications should include a letter of interest and CV, including contact details for three referees.
