coonabarabran logo

Mixed OR Small Animal Only Position – Coonabarabran Veterinary Surgery

The Role:
Rural practice, Mixed OR Smallies only, 4 day week, NO AFTER HOURS!!!

Coonabarabran Veterinary Surgery is a mixed practice (approx 70% SA/30% LA) which is run in conjunction with the Coolah Veterinary Clinic, 90km away.

We are looking for a veterinarian to be based in Coonabarabran to manage the day-to-day operations of the practice with support provided as required from Coolah several days per week.

For those keen to pursue mixed practice work, 2-3 days per week would be put aside for this while the small animal work would be covered by vets coming from Coolah OR for anyone who wants to concentrate solely on small animal practice, the large animal work will be covered from Coolah.

The small animal caseload covers the wide range of cases you would expect to see in a rural practice. Vets are encouraged to take on any procedures they feel comfortable with and for those more complicated, referral is available at Tamworth. The practice is equipped with DR xray, ultrasound, multiparameter monitor and more.

The livestock work predominately consists of beef cattle production with large numbers of pregnancy testing and bull testing as well as AI, herd health, disease investigations, obstetrics and all the rest that you would expect. The area also has a strong horse population, mainly involved in campdrafting, polocrosse, rodeo, eventing, pony club and other performance activities. Equine work consists of all the usual day to day ailments along with a growing dentistry and repro caseload.

This position is flexible and could be tailored to suit individual requirements/preferences. Currently it is 9 days per fortnight but could be rearranged to 4 days per week if desired (RDOs to be either a Monday or Friday). Additionally, this role would not involve any after hours requirements

What we can offer you:

GUNDAROO, YASS VALLEY - MIXED OR SMALL ANIMAL New Graduates welcome

Best of both worlds! Rural village setting only 20mins to Canberra

Gundaroo is a small historic village with a friendly community feel. Residents can live the rural life on large blocks and still have the essentials of a corner store, post office, multiple restaurants, a primary school, cricket ground and the very popular pub. The practice is privately owned and focused on providing the best quality service to the growing village of Gundaroo and surrounds.

The Gundaroo Veterinary Centre has come under new management after the previous vet/owner retired. Previously the clinic was 100% small animal focused though the new owners would be interested to do mixed practice if a vet were interested to see large animals. We are willing to invest in all the resources needed to do this; portable x-ray, car etc.

The clinic is already well equipped for small animal work with IDEXX lab equipment, ultrasound, x-ray and orthopaedic equipment. You will be further supported by our current vets whom have a combined experience of 46 years and include a MANZCS holder.

Experienced vets and new grads are all welcome to apply and we need a mixture of skills and experience. Salary is well above award and commensurable with experience.

For more information or to apply, contact Melanie Ryan on admin@belconnenvets.com.au or 0490 206 368.

ORANGE, CENTRAL TABLELANDS - SMALL ANIMAL New Graduates welcome
mulberry lane logo

Hello, I am Dr Judith Carney, let me tell you about my journey to running an ASAV Accredited Small Animal Hospital in Orange, NSW.

I was one of those kids who kept bringing animals home, but being part of a big family, with 5 children, these animals were sent back to where they came from. At 11 years of age our father died, along came my first pet, a Ginger cat, I called him Orlando, my brothers called him Ginger and Ginger stuck. He lived till 19 years of age and was my best friend.

My first dog, Barley, kept me company when on call in a busy mixed practice in Britain. When the decision was made to emigrate to Australia, Barley came with me. She had to quarantine for 2 months. When the time came to pick her up, she saw me, spun round and walked straight to our car, with a little sniff of gum leaves on the way, knowing she was in a different environment but happy to be with me.

We brought up our family on the Central Coast but were drawn to Orange, to get away from the traffic, commuting, to experience country life.

What has it meant professionally? I have found a move to the town of Orange has helped me grow as a vet. When clients won’t accept a referral to a specialist, we will offer a high standard of medical, diagnostic and surgical services, in close liaison with specialists. This has enabled a growth in knowledge and skill to a different level. It is very rewarding. For example a case came in a few months ago, of a possible needle which had penetrated a thorax, the owners didn’t’ want to go to a specialist for CT scan and surgery, so we performed radiographs and ultrasound to locate the needle, then surgery to find the needle had penetrated through the thoracic wall to the pleural cavity. She made an excellent recovery.

What is life in Orange like? Orange is the Food and Wine hub of NSW, as a foodie, I have loved it. I have also joined the Orange Regional Conservatorium, play in two bands ( a 5 minute commute straight after work), Woodwork has become a great hobby on a Wednesday night, meeting friends, working with wood helps me relax.

Then there is a movie or Theatre to go to or wine bar to relax in on a Friday night.

Lake Canobolis is a lovely place for a swim, when it is hot, walk and a coffee when it is cooler.

I love the four seasons in Orange.

If you choose to work in our amazing Hospital with our friendly team, you will find a balance in your life as well as an enjoyable, friendly environment, which nurtures independent thinking, supports CPD, supports you to enjoy your profession with it’s challenges as much as I have, please contact Dr Judith Carney or Jenna on (02) 6360 3071 or email: reception@mulberrylanevet.com.au

We look forward to hearing from you,
The Team at Mulberry Lane Vet Hospital

Veterinarian Required – New Lambton Veterinary Clinic

Six years ago we opened our purpose built premises in Lambton Road Broadmeadow with a dream to expand our small clinic, our clinical skills and our access to amazing equipment, while preserving our close longstanding client and patient relationships. YOUNG, SOUTH-WEST SLOPES - MIXED

Young is thriving and we’d love a new experienced vet to join our fabulous team!

At Young Veterinary Clinic we live by our core values and have developed a strong clinic culture that means:

A typical day in the life of a vet at Young Veterinary Clinic starts in the morning by meeting for Rounds to discuss our cases and engage our well respected and experienced vet nurse team. Then the day's vet work begins………..whether consulting, performing routine day surgery, hitting the road for some large animal calls or assisting in a high end orthopaedic surgery, such as a TPLO repair, the variety is endless. This is broken up by a well-rehearsed morning tea ceremony and team lunch to discuss the issues of the day! Our tight team enjoy Friday afternoon drinks and nibbles and regular mid-year social activities and our end of year Christmas party is infamous. Whilst COVID-19 has seen us implement important protective measures, including social distancing, we continue to embrace the team culture.

Please click here to see photos! photos

Young Veterinary Clinic is situated in Young, in the highly productive south west slopes region of NSW less than 2 hours from Canberra. Young is a vibrant, progressive regional centre with award winning coffee and eateries. Leave shopping malls behind and step into the sunlight of Young’s vibrant centre with exclusive boutiques, hair and beauty salons, 3 supermarkets, gourmet butchers and plenty more. The town supports a strong cultural and musical community as well as many sporting clubs. There is a well-resourced hospital and medical centre and great schools for the kids. The successful applicant would be highly encouraged (and expected) to engage in all that Young and surrounds have to offer.

Young is renowned as the cherry capital of Australia, venture into the orchards to pick your own or stop by one of the many road side stalls to fill the car with the sweet aroma of cherries and cherry pies. Young is also famous as having the first electricity supply in the British Empire, before the state capitals….even before London!!

Our package for the successful applicant includes 4 weeks annual leave, 1 week paid conference leave, a 4 day working week with shared after hours, fully equipped work vehicle with phone, well remunerated after hours pay and generous above award salary depending on experience.

Full Time Veterinarian Required – 7 vet practice
Small animal (90%) Large animal (10%)

Yoogali Veterinary Centre, situated in the centre of the Riverina, is seeking a passionate veterinarian to join our growing, 7 veterinarian, mixed practice team.

Since March ’19 we have been operating from a new, purpose built, state of the art Veterinary Hospital, with four consulting rooms (one of which functions as a grieving room with separate exit from the hospital), surgical suite with two operating tables, dental suite, a large treatment area, and separate cat and dog wards. We also have two on-site horse stables, with equine crush. The hospital is well equipped with all the toys you would expect from a top-quality veterinary hospital, including ultrasound, digital radiography, full Idexx lab, IM3 dental machine, dental radiography, vet-tome, orthopaedic equipment, electrosurgical unit, cryosurgery, pulse oximeter, ETCO2, ECG, blood pressure monitoring, endoscopy, tonometry, power float, patient warming systems- what more could you want!

Please click here to see photos! photos

We pride ourselves on trying to deliver gold standard treatment whenever possible, and our hospital is constantly evolving and looking for areas we can improve. With our nearest referral centres 2-3 hours away, there is ample opportunity to work up and follow through on a variety of complex cases.

Our vets work four days per week with one night on call during the week. Weekends are shared equally between our vets and consist of one Saturday shift from 8:00 to 12.30pm, with the remainder of the weekend on call. This roster allows plenty of time to explore this beautiful region and enjoy yourself!

Our hospital encourages a good work-life balance, and the practice owner tries hard to create an environment where burnout is prevented. Our vets are entitled to (and encouraged to take) a one-hour lunch break each day, and we avoid scheduling consultations between 12.15pm and 2:30pm to ensure staff have enough time to have lunch and finish writing up morning consults. Our last consultations for the day are scheduled at 5:30pm, allowing enough time to finish up and get home on time (most of the time!).

We are looking for a keen, team-oriented veterinarian, who wants to work in a professional, and supportive. Our ideal candidate would have a minimum of 2 years experience, preferably more but capable new graduates are also encouraged to apply. Special interests in surgery would be highly regarded (but are not essential).

Should you be interested, there is the opportunity to buy into the practice in the future.

Salary will be commensurate with experience, well above award, and regularly reviewed. All the usual entitlements to holidays and study leave apply. Continuing education is encouraged, and any special interests will be actively supported.

We are a friendly team, who regularly share baked treats, homegrown produce and spend time together outside of work drinking wine, bushwalking and horseriding.

Griffith is a fast-growing regional centre, surrounded by culture, wineries, and fantastic food. There is an airport which operates flights to and from Sydney and Melbourne each day. For the athletically inclined, there are local teams for nearly every sport, and the Cocoparra National Park is just around the corner!

To apply for this position, or for further information, please contact Dr. Kim Martel, the practice owner/manager, by phone or email. We are also happy to put you in touch with any of the associate veterinarians (past and present!), if you’d like to hear of their experiences at this practice.

The clinic was busy with a varied case load and was an awesome learning experience. All the staff was incredibly helpful and supportive – all I had to do was ask and somebody would gladly help me find an answer regardless of the question. All the vets were incredibly knowledgeable and were willing to share this knowledge amongst each other if a difficult case came in. I can highly recommend Mount Hutton Pet Hospital as a workplace and would gladly take a job here if I was looking at permanent work in the Newcastle area.”

ARMIDALE, NORTHERN TABLELANDS - MIXED PRIMARILY SMALL ANIMAL - MATERNITY COVER 6MTH

Experienced Vet Required for Maternity Relief Position
Primarily Small Animal
Armidale NSW

New England Veterinary Services is looking for a helping hand in the new year to keep our clinic running smoothly while one of our associates is on maternity leave.

The position will begin on the 25th of January 2022 for a minimum of 6 months, though we’d be happy with a portion of this time as well!

We are a busy 2 vet clinic, primarily small animal with a mix of surgical and medical cases, as well as some pocket pets and exotics. We get the odd cattle obstetric call. Horses are referred to the local equine vet centre.  We have a happy team of qualified support staff who work with us on cases to achieve great care for our patients, who are great at readying surgeries and inpatients for procedures. Our clinic is large, with lots of diagnostics (full pathology, DR x-ray, ultrasound, dental x-ray, tonovet etc) to make work-ups easier and provide a high level of care and service to our clients and patients.  A referral service is 1.5 hours away for those cases that need more but we do get to do some interesting things.

Please click here to see photos! photos

Work would ideally be a 4 day week (8am-6pm) with 1 in 2 Saturdays (9am-12pm) and 1 in 4 on call though this can be negotiated. We make sure everyone takes a lunch break.  We share on call with a neighbouring clinic with whom we have a great relationship, and we are flexible around each other if you need a specific weekend off for something special.  On call is generally fairly quiet; weeknights are generally no calls, and weekends have 1-5 calls, and we remunerate on call well as it’s a necessary evil no one wants to do.

Our clients are great, and we have a focus on stress-free handling as we have a MANZCVS in behaviour in clinic.  We aim for a high standard of care where finances allow and pride ourselves on providing the best veterinary care we can.

A work car will be provided for use if required and temporary accommodation can be provided (single bedroom flat) as well. Armidale is a 2 hour drive to the coast for weekend getaways, have multiple national parks on our doorstep and 1hr flights to Sydney or Brisbane.

I haven’t had to do this before so I’m not sure what else to say… but if you’re interested in joining our little team in our busy and growing practice get in touch and we can chat.  I’m happy to talk through hours, remuneration or anything else if our clinic sounds like somewhere you’d like to be!

Please contact Emma or Lucy on 02 6771 0200 or email info@newenglandvetservices.com.au

EAST LISMORE, NORTHERN RIVERS - KOALA/CONSERVATION New Position

Veterinarian (Part-Time)

Working in a conservation role, this is your chance to support an iconic species to avoid extinction while living and working in a desirable lifestyle location in the NSW Northern Rivers. Part-time position, approx. 3 days per week (negotiable depending on availability), including on call and weekend work (shared with other staff).

ABOUT US
At Friends of the Koala, we believe in a future for koalas in the NSW Northern Rivers. Operating for over 35 years, we have an established history of working towards positive outcomes for koalas in a region that is home to one of the last significant, genetically diverse koala populations in Australia.
We operate the only specialised Koala Hospital in the region, which is licensed through the veterinary board of NSW. We are equipped with an anaesthetic machine, drip pumps, ultrasound, digital x-ray and are in the process of upgrading our Koala Hospital and Koala Care Facility, including the purchase of more equipment.

We are licensed through NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service to rescue, rehabilitate, and release sick and injured koalas. With the support of over 150 active volunteers and 400 plus members, we tend to approx. 350 sick, injured, and orphaned koalas each year. That's over a third of all wild koalas rescued in NSW and more than any other individual rescue group of wildlife hospital in the country.
Our Community Education and Administration Centre is our operational hub for community engagement and advocacy activity. Through our Community Nursery, we issue koala food trees and other rainforest species to private landholders and tree planting groups. We also negotiate with landowners to preserve and extend known koala habitat through targeted Habitat Restoration Projects.
If you believe in a future for this iconic species, we would love your support to ensure that NSW Northern Rivers koalas can continue to thrive in the years ahead.

WARRAWONG, WOLLONGONG - SMALL ANIMAL New Graduates welcome

We at Warrawong Veterinary Clinic are unfortunately in dire need of a Veterinarian Assistant. Due to two of our very valued staff having to leave we have been left with one aged vet, me, and 3 wonderful experienced previous staff lending a hand to help us out as permanent casuals.

I established the practice over 40 years ago, only 5 kilometres from my childhood home. The practice therefore has developed as a very family orientated organisation.

We are generally very busy with a vast array of patients and problems. Mostly Dogs and Cats, some Birds but a fair spattering of Pocket Pets, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs and all the Reptiles – none venomous. I developed an interest in native animals many years ago and we see a few a month to keep up the joy.

We have most of the equipment desired – in house idexx pathology, ultrasound with access to visiting specialist ultrasonographer, orthopaedic equipment with a visiting specialist surgeon for more difficult problems, automatic processor etc. What is expected now was non-existent when we kicked off.

Having graduated in an era where the Uni was the only referral many surgical procedures are accommodated and encouraged to try.

Wollongong has blossomed from a Steel City to a service centre for the South Coast. The pollution has gone. The gutters no longer rust and the beaches are all pristine.

The surf and the bush are only minutes away. It’s a three minute drive to the best of our beaches at Port Kembla.

Our new employee, as mentioned, would be welcomed with great delight. The position would be a 9 day fortnight. If any weekend day is worked then a weekly day off is earned. Consulting is morning and afternoon with time 2 to 4 hours for surgery if scheduled, in the middle of the day.

The staff are all good mates, spending time out of work hours socialising. Most of the nurses work part time giving time for family activities/emergencies or sport/hobbies etc.

We are small enough that any difficulty professionally is shared and usually can be nutted out.

If needed Sydney’s south is less than an hour away by road. The CBD could be and extra hour, with the traffic being why we are situated here. The train now takes half the time it did in the beginning. But Wollongong with over 250,000 happy souls has seen the town develop everything you could desire.

Hopefully, if interested, please call. Colin Pinney, 02 4274 6155 or 0421 950 918 or warrawong.vetclinic@yahoo.com.au

A vet who is passionate and genuinely likes helping people and their pets to achieve the best outcome.

Team Member Testimonial.
Working at WQVH has been everything I hoped for in my New Graduate job. Whilst being busy and challenged (during the very challenging year of 2020!), I have been supported every step of the way both personally and in my professional development. The hours are very fair and the salary is rewarding. Additionally, I have been able to manage a great work life balance this year, which is not something many Veterinarians can say! As a team, we believe in evidence-based learning and providing exceptional care. We fulfil this ethos by regularly updating our equipment and facilities and having regular staff meetings to improve our protocols. I know I will continue to grow as a Veterinarian and as a person at this practice. WQVH is not just a vet clinic but a fun, supportive community who care tremendously about clients, their pets and anything else that comes through the doors. I would choose WQVH ten times over and recommend it to any new graduate or experienced vet.

Weekends are staffed by 2 vets, who share the on call. This means you are never on call more than one night in a row! We also have a nursing on-call roster, so help is always available if needed.
Renumeration is paid at an hourly rate, so you are compensated for any overtime, which is generally not excessive.  The rostering system has been designed with a little wriggle room to leave room for writing up notes etc. so you do not go over your rostered hours.

Bomaderry is located on the sunny South Coast of NSW, on the northern side of the Shoalhaven River, about 2 hours south of Sydney, 20 minutes from pristine Jervis Bay and the surf beaches of Culburra and Shoalhaven Heads. Looking westwards the surrounding State and National parks offer camping, climbing and bushwalking. We have a multitude of good schools , several large private and government employment bases, good sporting facilities and lots of cultural opportunities.

Applicants are very welcome to discuss the position with existing employees or the practice owner Dr Neal Johnson. We look forward to hearing from you!
