Queensland Veterinary Specialists is a referral hospital established in 1984 at West Chermside on the North Side of Brisbane. A purpose built hospital was established at North Lakes in 2016.

The hospital accepts referrals in all aspects of surgery, internal medicine, oncology, dermatology, dentistry, cardiology and reproduction. We are seeking an experienced nurse with a high level of technical skills to join our dentistry team at our Northlakes hospital.

The role involves all aspects of dentistry from consultation, evaluation, anaesthesia, assisting with procedures, instrument set up and after care. The candidate needs to be confident with client communication including patient updates, intra-operative update and patient discharge and have a genuine interest in dentistry. An experienced level of patient handling is also required for performing oral examinations. This role will also have exposure to other disciplines in the hospital, mainly surgery. QVS has state of the art diagnostic tools including x-ray, ultrasound, MRI, CT and the latest laboratory equipment. The dentistry team is made up of a specialist and the dentistry nurse.

The successful candidate will have Veterinary Technician or Cert. 4 qualifications with a minimum of three years’ experience as a fully qualified nurse. Experience in aspects of dentistry including charting, dental instruments and terminology is preferable, but not mandatory as full training will be provided. The candidate needs to be confident with anaesthesia from routine to complicated cases.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic team player who enjoys working in a busy environment, a keen interest in specialist dentistry nursing, flexible with work hours and want to help provide the best possible nursing care to our patients. The position will start in late July/early August on a full time basis.

We all contribute to client communication, ordering/stock control, admit and discharge, surgical prep and monitoring, reporting to the vets on patient progress, invoicing and everything in-between.

In saying all of that, we are very light-hearted, and nothing is too hard, too much or too big an issue. We are a close team consisting of 3 vets and 6 nurses that regularly catch up outside of work for drinks and exploring what Far North Queensland has to offer. We are all quite active and enjoy living a full lifestyle.

Our main focus is customer service and catering to our clients. We have a very practical approach and our clients are a part of our big family rather than just a number.

We offer a huge variety of services including general surgery, dentals, radiology, ultrasound and referral options, a variety of soft tissue surgery such as soft palate/nares and anal gland resection, and a large variety of orthopaedic surgeries such as TTA’s, FHO, Patella and fracture repair.

We do a lot of work with rescue and rehoming groups. We have separate isolation, dog and cat wards, theatre and digital x-ray, dental and knockdown areas and a recovery area.

The job is comprised of a rotating 8-week roster which includes day, night, weekend and evening shifts. The roster has been designed with smooth transitions between day and night shifts, and includes at least 1 week off every rotation, in addition to normal vacation time.
This role is not restricted to emergency-only nurses: we have a number of general practice nurses who have transitioned well and are flourishing in this role.

We are looking for an experienced nurse to join our privately owned small animal practice on the Northern Gold Coast. You'll join our team of 3 vets, 2 experienced nurses, a trainee & receptionist who enjoy Hope Island Vet as a place to value our fantastic clientele and deliver excellent patient advocacy.

We have a spacious practice with 3 consulting rooms and a large open prep room with dedicated theatre and imaging suite as well as separate dog and cat & isolation wards. We have the usual toys you would expect; in house lab, digital x-ray, dental digital Xray & iM3 suite, ultrasound, infusion pumps, etc.

In a typical day you will be based in the surgery, responsible for surgery admissions, theatre prep, taking pre anaesthetic bloods, placing IV fluids and administering medications as required. There is also anaesthesia monitoring, dental radiography as well as being involved in the medical care of any inpatients.

We run nurse clinics (post op checks, post dental checks, suture removal, bandaging, routine bloods, weight clinics and nurse health checks). We are also running puppy socialisation (without the owners in the clinic) until we can restart our puppy socialisation classes.

We are looking for a friendly happy good communicator who is as passionate about pet care as we are and comfortable advocating for the best for every patient.

Obviously in current times things are a bit different but this is an exciting opportunity to join us as we find our way through this challenge.

We feel we have found a balance between keeping our team and clients safe whilst not compromising the welfare of our patients.
