Mermaid Waters Vet Surgery, Gold Coast (posted 13th August) Full Time Experienced Vet Nurse

Mermaid Waters Vet Surgery

Full Time Veterinary Nurse Position

We are a six veterinarian/seven veterinary nurse small animal only veterinary clinic with a fantastic work environment and great clientele. We are looking for a veterinary nurse with an easy going nature who can fit in with our ethos: that the most important element of a veterinary practice is a healthy and happy work place.

Our Mermaid Vet clinic, centrally located on the Gold Coast, is just a few minutes from the white sands of Mermaid Beach. A veterinary surgery has been established on this site for over forty years. Since purchasing the clinic twelve years ago, the owners have been successful in growing the practice into one of the most highly respected clinics on the Gold Coast. The clinic is family owned and operated with a belief in providing the best veterinary care, without the need for ‘over servicing’ or performance reviews. We work hard to provide an environment in which veterinary nurses can enjoy their work every day.

Having the highest quality veterinary equipment means that diagnostic procedures can be efficient and more enjoyable in the day-to-day routine. Our clinic has a dedicated imaging room with DR x-ray and an advanced ultrasound machine. Our DR x-ray machine produces high resolution images in a matter of seconds. We also have a Phillips XD-11 ultrasound sound machine with 3d Doppler that we use routinely, but also provide training for our staff through a visiting ultra-sonographer. Our pathology suite is complete with an Idexx Catalyst biochemistry and Procyte haematology machines – delivering blood tests in approximately 15 minutes. Our dental suite consists of an IM3 dental machine with sub-gingival scaler and is complemented by a wall mounted DR dental x-ray. Four consultation rooms, a dedicated imaging room, dental room, surgery room and multiple prep areas also make for hassle free procedures. We also believe that staff should never stop learning. We support ongoing education, career advancement and encourage the development of personal interests within the veterinary field.

We have an outstanding group of nurses with decades of experience between them. They are highly supportive of our staff and take pride in our clinic. Our nurses all excel in various fields that support primary veterinary care including nutrition and behavioural training.

As the practice is growing and a few of our nurses have become mums we need an additional nurse to fit into our full time nursing roster. We are looking for an experienced, preferably Cert IV, veterinary nurse who is confident with monitoring anaesthetics and is capable in emergency situations. This person should possess the ability to work autonomously as well as in a team. A small animal veterinary nurse with a long-term view for employment would be best suited for this position. An interest in a field, such as medicine, behaviour, puppy school or surgery, for example, would be favourable. No after-hours or on-call work is required. All after hours cases are referred to a close by afterhours clinic.

If you are looking for an understaffed practice and the constant pressure of KPI based reviews, then this isn’t the job for you.

We offer a steady and manageable daily work load with an RDO every week and 30 minutes allocated for lunch every day. Shifts are structured with 5 veterinary nurses working at any one time on week days and 4 veterinary nurses on Saturday mornings. This provides excellent peer support for veterinary nurses and enough time to manage the day to day running of the clinic. Pay rate is based on level of experience and suitability to the practice. We are offering a superior pay package, procedures and products at cost and most importantly, a position where you can devote your time to the best care and outcomes for companion animals.

Have a look on our website to see who we are and what we are all about.

If you are looking for the opportunity to secure long term employment with higher pay as well as a job to enjoy coming to every day, please forward your CV or resume to office@mermaidvet.com.au
