Yulong Stud is seeking a highly motivated and adaptive individual to join our growing team as a Veterinary Nurse.
Yulong’s Veterinary facilities include a full laboratory comprised of hematology, chemistry and blood gas machines along with the ability to do cultures and sensitivities. We also have portable ultrasounds, digital radiograph machines and video endoscope machines.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Resident Veterinarians, our other vet nurses and from time-to-time our stud staff, to complete various medical tasks. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain additional experience or for a more experienced vet nurse to expand their skill set. You will be exposed to all aspects of a thoroughbred breeding operation while working in a fun team with a passion for providing high-level care to our equine patients.

To be considered you must possess the following skills and qualities:
- Certificate IV in vet nursing (preferred, but we will consider strong applications without).
- A self-starter who can work efficiently with and without guidance.

About You
We are searching for an experienced nurse who possesses the ability to multitask and work well as a team in an often face-paced environment. Specialist hospital experience is preferable, but a strong general practice background is welcome and looked highly upon. On the job training will be provided with ongoing support by senior nurses and veterinarians however applicants must possess the ability to work unsupervised as well as demonstrate reasonable proficiency in basic nursing skills such as intravenous catheter placement, fluid therapy, drug dose calculations, use of monitoring equipment and assessing vital signs, as the role involves a degree of autonomy and use of initiative.

About the Role
The Clinical Skills Support Nurse holds a pivotal role in facilitating and advancing the clinical skills training of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students. This position collaborates closely with students, academic staff, and other stakeholders. Its primary objective is to foster the development of practical competencies, ensuring students acquire a comprehensive understanding of clinical practices.
Under broad direction from the Team Lead, Clinical Teaching Support, the Clinical Teaching Support Nurse will maintain currency of best veterinary clinical practices, quality assurance in patient care and operational knowledge while rotating across:
- Clinical Sites: Providing guidance and support to students during clinical skills training activities at locations that include the Greencross Veterinary Hospital, Lost Dog’s Home, and other clinical sites as required by the School.
- Pathology: Providing pathology instructions to students and services to clients as required.
- Clinical Skills Lab: Assembling and supporting clinical skills training and assessment activities across major veterinary species. This includes constructing new training stations and Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE) assessment stations, assist in the development and support of practical classes, computer-assisted learning modules, and handling live animals and clinical skills simulators.
The role necessitates working across multiple sites and campuses across Victoria.
Who we are looking for
You will possess demonstrated skills and experience in assisting with various clinical procedures while adhering to relevant policies and standard operating procedures. Additionally, you should have a proven ability to effectively organize clinical spaces, including diagnostic suites, and manage equipment, medicines, and consumables, ensuring optimal stock levels and seamless operations, including procurement from suppliers.
You will also have:
- Completion of a relevant Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent) with relevant work experience. A Diploma of Veterinary Nursing is highly desirable.
- Experience of supporting training, education or development of students or staff in a veterinary setting.
- Well-developed organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise and meet competing demands and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to work autonomously, flexibly and effectively as part of a team to achieve goals and objectives.

This role involves responsibility for the care of hospitalised patients of the surgery department, as well as assistance with their anaesthetic management, specialised diagnostic tests, preparation for surgery and theatre nursing. In addition, there is a need for regular, reliable, and detailed communication within the department, across departments of the hospital, and with clients and referring veterinarians.
The position is preferably full-time, but with an emphasis on finding the right person rather than the specific terms. About You

Responsibilities:
- Assist vets with surgery, examinations, consultations, and treatments
- Provide accurate surgical support, including placing intravenous catheters, inducing anaesthetic, intubating surgery patients, clipping/prepping animals for surgery, monitoring anaesthetic, intravenous fluids.
- Perform routine diagnostic medical and laboratory tests
- Excellent animal and client care standards.
- Reception tasks including greeting clients, booking appointments, answering phones and parasite prevention advice.
- General Nursing tasks including pre- and post-operative care, pathology, radiology, care of medical and surgical cases, as well as emergency care.
- Maintaining hygiene of the practice including surgical areas, kennels, cattery, instruments, equipment, consulting rooms and reception.
Skills and Experience:
- Certificate IV qualification with at least 3 years’ experience
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Possesses interpersonal and communication skills
