WANT TO ENHANCE YOUR SKILL SET AND BE PAID WELL?

Then check this out:

INTERNSHIP or ASSOCIATE IN EQUINE RACETRACK MEDICINE & SURGERY

Advantage Equine Veterinary Practice is seeking an intern and an associate in equine racetrack medicine and surgery. There is a high demand for trained, experienced and passionate racetrack veterinarians.  However, it is difficult for young veterinarians to achieve this experience in this specialized field that requires a unique skill set.  New or recent graduate veterinarians are strongly encouraged to apply.  A role can also be tailored for an experienced veterinarian.

Advantage Equine is a 7-veterinarian ambulatory racetrack practice based in Flemington and Cranbourne, Australia that has a large caseload of elite race and performance horses.  The practice includes a registered specialist in equine surgery, a member of the ANZCVSs in Equine Medicine, an internationally certified veterinary acupuncturist and over 80 years’ experience in racetrack practice. Advantage Equine services its clients with the latest advancements in veterinary care, provided ethically with the horse’s welfare in mind.

The successful applicant will receive extensive experience in the daily management of the equine athlete and in veterinary management of large racing stables. Applicants will be involved with supervised and first-opinion consultations, with the level of supervision dependent on the development of skills and confidence. Exposure to lameness examinations, pre-purchase examinations (including yearling sales), international quarantine, digital radiography, ultrasonography, telemetric ECG, overground endoscopy, resting endoscopy, and lower airway diagnostics are commonplace in this practice.  Exposure to referral imaging and surgical consultations at other sites, and their post-operative management will be a component of the internship.  These positions will suit an applicant who is enthusiastic and motivated to be a racetrack and performance horse veterinarian. ANSTEAD, BRISBANE WEST QLD - EQUINE INTERNSHIP WITH MIXED ANIMAL COMPONENT New Graduates welcome New Position

EQUINE INTERNSHIP WITH MIXED ANIMAL COMPONENT

3 Positions starting in January 2025 at Anstead

We are currently recruiting new graduates for our 12-month internship position(s), commencing in January 2025. The internship is focused on developing new graduate veterinarians into confident mixed animal veterinarians. This is a rotating internship that is structured to give veterinarians a strong immersion in equine clinical practice whilst still enabling them to maintain their small animal and basic ruminant/camelid skills.

Interns will gain a broad range of clinical skills to prepare them for whichever road they choose post internship. Our intern graduates have gone on to pursue further internships in preparation for residencies, worked as mixed or equine veterinarians both locally and within Australia, and gone abroad to work in the UK. We also offer opportunities for intern graduates to stay on as associates at WestVETS. Our internship is an ideal transition for recent and new graduates who would like further experience before committing to pursue sole equine vs mixed practice or small animal.

A typical intern day starts at 7am with inpatient assessment and treatments. Hospital rounds occur at 8 AM with supervising clinicians, at which time daily patient plans are reassessed. Following rounds, interns will either assist with inpatient re-evaluation and procedures, outpatient, or ambulatory appointments (lameness evaluations, prepurchase evaluations, etc), emergencies, or general anaesthesia. Interns may also perform small animal consultations, with support as needed. The hospital sees an average of 1-2 primary opinion and referral emergencies per day in addition to scheduled appointments. WestVETS has a busy and varied caseload, including orthopaedic/sport medicine, lacerations, colics, pneumonias, diarrhoeas, neonates, and ophthalmology cases. The hospital also sees a number of small ruminant and camelid cases.

South East Queensland is a great place to live and work. Interns are based at Anstead which is 30 minutes from the CBD, and 1.5 hours to the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast. Our interns have time to continue pursuing their hobbies such as triathlons, hiking, camping, cycling and equestrian pursuits should they want to.

Please contact us if you would like more details regarding the internship. Visiting is strongly encouraged therefore please contact us if you would like to visit. We strongly encourage candidates to speak to current and past interns.
