The role
The Hospital Coordinator works closely with the Surgery and Anaesthesia departments at our Moorabbin hospital and our Emergency Surgery and Anaesthesia deparments at our other locations, to prioritise the needs of our patients, and ensure efficient and effective running of the day. In this hands-on nursing role, the coordinator is expected to actively coach and mentor nurses throughout the day. We are looking for someone who aligns with and promotes our core values. About Surgery Department Coordinator
We are looking for an experienced person, ideally with prior team leading experience, to focus on the daily smooth coordination of patients and team members through a busy Surgery Department. A real ‘Lead by example’ role - coaching and working with the team.
The daily work will revolve around the participation in the small animal surgery service as well as providing collaborative care of the patients in hospital. This will include coordinating the patient care within the Surgery department, the anaesthesia and preparation of Surgery patients, maintaining high quality of sterile supply, and supporting the nursing team as they rotate through the Surgery Department. Besides the clinical work, this role works closely with the Training & Development Coordinator to formulate and deliver nursing education programs within the Surgery Department, as well as fostering a culture that supports and promotes quality improvement and innovative models of care. This role works close with other team members to ensure quality through the assessment and evaluation of clinical procedures within the clinical team.
About The Austin:
The Austin is a fast-growing independently owned referral centre. We started with 20 people in 2022 and have grown to almost 60 fulltime team members in 2023, with more growth to come in 2024.
The purpose-built hospital (1200m2) has all the instruments necessary to enable our specialists to relish their chosen careers, and flourish. This includes separate soft tissue and orthopaedic theatres within a specifically designed surgical wing with positive airflow, free-standing steam autoclave, low-temperature plasma steriliser and instrument washer. The theatres are fully equipped including a wide range of new orthopaedic, neuro and soft tissue equipment (including thoracoscopy, arthroscopic and laparoscopic towers and flat-panel C-arm for intervention radiology).

The surgery department consists of one board-certified Surgeon (ECVS), one open residency position, three surgical interns and a full complement of surgical nurses. Together, they look after a wide variety of soft tissue, orthopaedic and neurosurgical patients.
They are supported by two specialists in internal medicine (ACVIM and ECVIM) and three radiologists (ECVDI, ACVR and FANZCVS), as well as residents, interns, hospital vets and an amazing team of nurses.
