Join us and make a difference!
At AWLQ, we’re committed to creating a brighter future for animals in need and keeping pets and people together by providing lifesaving support and resources to people in need with companion animals.

About the role
Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is currently looking for a part time or casual Veterinary Nurse to join our Gold Coast Animal Rehoming Centre!

You will be joining a small team who work hard but always have time for a laugh. There aren’t many quiet days due to the high number of animals needing AWLQ’s help, but on the flip side there’s no weekend work and very little after-hours.

The whole Rehoming Centre works as a team and you will work one-on-one with your vet to facilitate the efficient flow of animals through the clinic so they can go on to find their furever homes. Your “clients” are the amazing foster carers who take our animals into their homes to provide treatment and a loving home environment while they recover from illness or wait for surgery.

You will liaise with multiple staff, departments and foster carers on a daily basis so strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to multi-task are a must. You will have excellent time management and will complete your tasks with a strong attention to detail. Veterinary Nurse- Surgery

Job No: AWLQ51 Location: West Ipswich

Join us and make a difference!

Are you looking for a rewarding career? Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is currently looking for a part time or casual Veterinary Nurse to join our Ipswich Rehoming Centre! If you’re passionate about making a direct impact on animal welfare, we’d love to talk to you.

How you’ll impact our mission

Working in a Rehoming Centre, you will enjoy making a difference to the thousands of stray and homeless animals that come through our doors each year.

AWLQ promises to never euthanize a healthy, sociable or treatable animal in our care, this means we treat a wide variety of conditions on top of routine surgeries and procedures. Our team also gets to see animals they care for adopted in to new loving homes.

About the role

You will be joining a small team who work hard but always have time for a laugh.  There aren’t many quiet days due to the high number of animals needing AWLQ’s help, but on the flip side there’s no weekend work and very little after-hours.

The whole Rehoming Centre works as a team and you will work one-on-one with your vet to facilitate the efficient flow of animals through the clinic so they can go on to find their furever homes.  Your “clients” are the amazing foster carers who take our animals into their homes to provide treatment and a loving home environment while they recover from illness or wait for surgery.

This role is focused on surgery shifts, so surgery is your passion. You will assist your Vet with a variety of procedures from standard desexing including large dog spays, early age desexing, dentals, x-rays, to entropian, cherry eye, amputations, soft tissue, plus additional surgeries

You will liaise with multiple staff, departments on a daily basis so strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to multi-task are a must. You will have excellent time management and will complete your tasks with a strong attention to detail.  You will be a team player and able to be flexible to the changing needs each work day presents.

Key Responsibilities

What are the minimum requirements for this position?

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Who are we?

To each one of these animals we welcome through our doors, a promise is made – to never euthanise a healthy, sociable, or treatable animal in our care. We work tirelessly every day to maintain this promise.

We are known for our grassroots and innovative community-based animal welfare work including our community vet clinics, Getting to Zero, Golden Hearts Seniors’ Support Program and the National Desexing Network.
