Vet 2 Pet, Lara, Nth East of Geelong (posted 23rd January)
Veterinary Nurse - Full Time or Part Time
Hello nurses!
Due to practice growth we are hiring again! Position’s suit someone easy going, who doesn’t take themselves too seriously – a sense of humour is a must! We need someone who can hit the ground running so are looking for experienced nurses only.
We are located in Lara, on the Melbourne side of Geelong. We are keen to receive applications for both Full Time and Part Time employment. Our full time nurses work a 4-day week (38 hours) with a consistent scheduled RDO every week. We are not open public holidays, weekends and work minimal overtime. Yes, that’s right! an actual work life balance.
We are a small animal practice consisting of 9 nurses, 1 receptionist and 3 Veterinarians and one kennel hands. We work hard but understand and value the importance of an excellent work environment. We make sure every day to take the time to have a laugh, crack a joke and if needed have a good vent about a particular case.
We see mainly cats and dogs with a nice mix of small animals including reptiles (but don’t be surprised to see the odd kangaroo, koala, eagle or other unusual creatures as Dr. Laura has a keen interest in our beautiful native wildlife and quirky critters). Our clinic pet is Gucci the freshwater crocodile on display in reception. Don’t stress though, you are not meant to know the vital signs on a koala or kangaroo… all that training will be provided if your keen to learn. Not so keen – no stress, we have plenty of nurses who are keen to take the lead on these patients.
We have a newly purpose built Veterinary clinic on acreage with large outdoor dog runs and aviaries. When new people walk through our clinic they generally are surprised at how large, new and comprehensive our setup is. We all the latest gadgets, bells and whistles including digital and dental x-ray, in house blood diagnostics, Rx Works, Smartflow, vetS8 – the list goes on. All training will be provided on any equipment that you may not be used too.
We are a little bit different here as we have a mobile aspect to the clinic meaning a veterinarian and Nurse will be available for mobile consultations at home. It gets you out of the clinical environment of a hospital and you get to go cruising around the local suburbs in our specially fitted out Vet 2 Pet ex ambulance.
Contrary to what you may think we are not just a euthanasia service or a budget clinic – we see a wide range of cases and offer all the usual services including visiting orthopaedic and internal medicine specialists, in house labs, hospitalisation etc… The only difference is we do more house call than your average clinic, with an average day on the road including 1-2 euthanasia appointments and a mix of vaccinations, lumps, check-ups and sick pets.
We also know all the best coffee spots/bites to eat in town and “clean” public toilets to use on your travels. If that doesn’t sound like you, that’s ok, we love it and are happy to fight over your day on the road between ourselves.
If this sounds like you and tickles your fancy, email resumes to: laura.a.schram@gmail.com

Beaumaris Veterinary Hospital, South East Melbourne (posted 13th January)
Experienced Veterinary Nurse with or without Cert IV
Because one of our lovely nurses is leaving us to travel overseas, we’re looking for a nurse for 5-6 days per week. We need someone who is easy going, personable and likes a bit of a laugh, but at the same time who takes the job seriously. We all get along famously here, and as a result, we all really enjoy coming to work - that’s a rare find these days!! We are currently a small team of 2 vets and 5 nurses, as well as 2 dogs, who see themselves as nurses too. Our little clinic is well equipped with state-of-the-art digital x-ray system, digital dental x-ray, iM3 dental base, ultrasound and endoscopy, just to name a few. We do work Saturday mornings but do no after hours. There may be occasional custody battles over the radio station - so you may need to pick a side here. Our clients are absolutely amazing. Seriously! They are exceptional.
We are seeking a nurse, who has experience and confidence in all areas of nursing and has amazing customer service skills. Of course, it goes without saying empathy for and with our four-legged (and occasional two legged) patients.
Cert IV in Vet Nursing is preferred, but most importantly must have at least 3-4 years of experience in practice.
Hours vary a bit, as is the nature of veterinary care, but the position would be approximately 30-35 hours per week which includes working every 2nd Saturday morning (rosters may change as needed). This position does have the potential to increase during the busier times, but most of our nurses have one weekday off per week.
A good fit is crucial, so if you think you could be this person, then please contact us with your application, including a cover letter and your resume to Angela at enquiries@beaumarisvet.com.au.

Malvern Veterinary Hospital, Armadale, Inner South-East Melbourne (posted 10th January)
Veterinary Nurse–Position Available full time or part time
Many years ago when I was just starting out in this industry I wanted to work somewhere cool that had a lot of action and where I could learn more, and get a sense of making a difference – doing something meaningful that I could be proud of. Little did I know that I actually wanted so much more than that. I also wanted to be part of a team where I would feel supported and proud. Where I could develop and enjoy my day and form friendships with my team mates who shared the same passion. I also wanted to be paid properly!
If this resonates with you then consider joining us here at Malvern Vet because that is what we are all about. We are an accredited hospital with a team passionate about being pet advocates, giving gold standard care whilst looking after our team members. We have each others backs.
Things to think about when considering employment opportunities:
- Are they corporate owned (the latest kookaburra survey shows people are significantly happier when working for independent operations)
- Is it a large enough clinic to offer the support you want as well as the case load to offer the learning opportunities and job satisfaction you are wanting
- Is it accredited as a Hospital of excellence to ensure you will be proud to put your reputation behind the sort of medicine that is practiced
- Is the area affluent - allowing the kind of work ups and patient care we all want to practice
- Does the hospital have a long standing reputation of having a friendly and happy work environment
About us:

- A friendly team who really care about each other. Pets come first, our work family second and clients run a bit of a poor third.
- Busy practice with lots of surgeries and procedures. Large new 30 cat capacity cattery and grooming galore (team of 8 groomers) – it’s a pretty cool place to work.
- Great clients – they want the best for their fur babies
- Progressive, well equipped hospital located in Armadale.
- We are open to new ideas and are constantly re-evaluating and improving our systems.
- We have high staff retention rates because we treat each other with kindness and respect. We have an awesome team of professionals who actively strive for a happy work environment.
- Independently owned and operated
What we need:
We are looking for a like minded nurse who shares our core values and passions.
