SMITHTON, NW COASTAL TASMANIA - MIXED PREDOMINANTLY LARGE ANIMAL New Graduates welcome

Smithton Veterinary Service - New/Recent graduate position

Smithton Veterinary Service has a position for a new or recent graduate at their long established and expanding dairy and mixed practice in north-west Tasmania, Australia.

The position is for 90% large animal, 10% small animal working a 9-day fortnight.

Smithton Veterinary Service is a predominantly cattle (dairy 75%, beef 5%) and small animals (20%) practice with the occasional sheep, goat, horse and wildlife seen as well.

The dairy work includes routine farm visits and emergency work, herd health programs, bull fertility testing, consultancy work (mastitis, reproduction and nutrition), lameness as well as manual and ultrasound pregnancy testing.

There is a supportive team consisting of 9 veterinarians and 3 farm technicians with a range of veterinary experience. We have a good mix of senior, mid-level and newer graduate veterinarians with most our vets having worked in the clinic for at least 5 years.

Don’t know if you’re getting the most up to date support and advice? One of our vets Dr Matt Izzo is a registered cattle specialist and Dr Craig Dwyer is a go-to in Australia for bull testing and large herd management. All our vets are happy to support and mentor all new additions to the clinic.

Please click here to see photos! photos

The on call 1: 8 - that means only 4 nights a month! We have a Tele-triage service – so you are not getting disturbed for non- emergencies! You also don’t have to start on-call until you are ready – for most new grads this is usually around the 2-month mark. Once you’ve found your feet don’t worry because ALL vets have a designated backup vet on the weekend and for weeknights there is always another vet willing to help if required!

You will be working from a modern, spacious, purpose-built clinic which includes a whole office level upstairs.  We have some great toys to make our lives easier including two mobile tipper crushes, five portable ultrasounds, bull fertility testing equipment and an in-house blood analyser for large and small animals. We have all the usual small animal equipment including vet-tome (dental game changer!) bone plating gear and digital radiography. We pride ourselves in being very active in farmer education through the provision of seminars and courses, and also at a higher industry level with Dairy Australia.

Salary is generous for new graduates plus you will receive paid AVA membership, VSB registration fees, VIN, CVE and Plumbs App subscriptions plus access to an online text and journal library.

A decent car, mobile phone and relocation assistance are also part of the package.

We offer paid volunteer leave and maternity leave and plenty of other perks that come with being part of the Apiam family.

Opportunities across the Apiam clinics are encouraged, and we offer industry-leading internal training.  New graduates benefit from our Graduate Development Program which offers mentorship, small group support and hands-on workshops.

If you are an exceptional new graduate with a genuine interest in dairy cattle and want to join our team, we would love to hear from you.

SHEFFIELD, MOUNT ROLAND - MIXED ANIMALNew Graduates welcomeNew Position

NEW TEAM MEMBER NEEDED

Mixed Animal Veterinarian Required Sheffield Veterinary Clinic - Tasmania

At the Sheffield Veterinary Clinic, we love our work. With a high standard of service and always aiming for a great client experience, the clients (and generally the patients) love our work too.

Medical consultations are routinely given 30 minutes. This allows time to get to know the clients, their pets and their problems. As the vet, it allows you to run bloods, check that skin scraping and workshop a plan with the client. Oh, and there’s time to write up the jobs too. Even vaccinations and quick rechecks get 15 minutes.

Now when I say that we love our work, it doesn’t mean that everything is always puppies and newborn foals - we are not that naive. We have our fair share of sad cases and difficult cases, just like all veterinary clinics. We perform animal shelter work for the R.S.P.C.A and treat injured wildlife including Tasmanian Devils, Quolls, Wallabies, Possums and Bandicoots just to name a few.

Please click here to see photos! photos

We are a privately owned veterinary clinic, and that’s important. It means flexibility, and that means that your ideas and plans can be incorporated into the practice. You will be able to practise your way and be supported in your passions and interests as you do so. We are committed to allowing our staff members to expand and grow. We offer the standard week of study leave, but if you would like a workshop or course, all you need to do is ask. We currently have one vet studying to sit her membership exams in imaging. Hours of work are flexible and definitely open to negotiation around your requirements.

What we have:

We are a country clinic in a busy town about 25 minutes from Devonport. We have a boss who is (a little) obsessed with equipment and consequently, we have most, if not all, of the toys you might need or want. Some examples include: IM3 dental machine, dental radiography, digital radiography (field and in house), reproductive ultrasound, small animal ultrasound, endoscopy, IDEXX Procyte, Coagulation and Catalyst, Ventilator, Orthopaedic Gear, Tonometer etc etc.

What we need:

A veterinarian with a friendly demeanour and a good rapport with people and animals. Someone who is caring, understanding and thorough in their approach. Someone who is willing and able to cover after hours on a roster arrangement.

What we are offering:

A good working environment. These days that really is the most important thing anyone can offer, but we know that you also need food on the table… So… Above award salary, continuing education, study leave, use of a fully kitted work vehicle.

If you are interested and would like more information please check out our Facebook page, drop us a line, send us a message or shoot us an email to admin@sheffieldvetclinic.com.au

DELORAINE, CENTRAL NORTH TAS - MIXED VET New Graduates welcomeNew Position

Rare Opportunity – Genuine Mixed Vet - Tasmania

We are looking for the next additional vet to join our mixed practice in the central north of Tasmania. This is a genuine mixed practice with the case load evenly spread between cattle (mostly dairy), horses, and small animals. We currently average 6 - 7 vets on any one day, and we are looking to add another to keep that all important work life balance. We are seeking someone who either is, or has the potential to become, an elite mixed practice veterinarian. Given the number of vets, and the species mix, you will be able to fully pursue your professional development. This should result in good functional capability across all areas of mixed practice, whilst facilitating development in your chosen field of expertise.

Due to the lack of resident specialists in Tasmania, we function as a referral centre for many of our colleagues across Tasmania, performing work that would typically be done in a specialist hospital. Our newly completed equine surgical suite further adds to that capability.

Clientele are generally very good, and appreciative of quality service provided. Nursing staff are some of the best in Tassie, giving competent support including after-hours availability. Veterinarians are encouraged to pursue their own cases through to completion or the limit of their ability, with back up or bail out provided as needed! Teamwork is a priority for us, with all staff contributing to a happy work environment, while providing quality care. Due to the number of veterinary staff, there is real potential to pursue particular areas of professional interest, whilst maintaining competency across all species.

We pride ourselves on providing cost effective high quality care, and have equipment to facilitate that performance well in excess of what you may expect for a semi-rural practice. By being able to provide high quality care without having to refer all the interesting and challenging cases, the job satisfaction is very high, and we have a history of long-term staff that are happy and fulfilled in their work. After hours shared evenly between the more junior staff, with senior staff being available as back up 24/7. Salary range according to experience, and new or recent graduates are very welcome to apply.

Socially, Deloraine is a town of about 2,500 within 35 minutes of provincial cities of Devonport & Launceston. Ski fields, bush walking, lake & ocean fishing all within one hour. The town itself is well equipped with sporting facilities, schools, etc (even pubs). Shared ownership prospects for the right person via a private company structure.

Interested? Please send a resume with cover letter to Roger Blackwell, roger@meandervets.com.au or call 0417 322 108 to discuss this position.
