READY FOR A SEACHANGE?

Are you looking to move to a town with a country feel and laid-back attitude, right on the Turquoise Coast which has some of WA’s most beautiful beaches? All the staff at Wheatbelt Vet Services love living in Jurien Bay and because of that we make sure we enjoy a very healthy work life balance. Our team is very close knit and enjoy socialising together on weekends, the odd sunset drink after work or pack walks with our dogs on an empty beach each morning.

Wheatbelt Vet Services is Seeking a New Graduate Vet to fill a position in our ever-expanding practice in Jurien Bay. Wheatbelt Vet Services is a family run country Mixed-practice that now has 3 clinics in the Wheatbelt, with a total of 3 (soon to be 4) vets employed.

We have the most amazing clients. This is mostly because 3 years ago Jurien Bay had limited veterinary services, so everyone is very appreciative to have a full-time vet here. We also don’t take kindly to clients being rude to our staff – quality veterinary care is a privilege so we ensure that our staff are treated with respect and always supported.

Jurien Bay is a great little town that seems be expanding more each year. It still manages to maintain its laid-back coastal feel during the quiet season and has plenty to offer during your down time. There is a strong community spirit and ample sporting opportunities such as football, hockey, netball, tennis, basketball, surfing, fishing and other water-based activities. There are also great local attractions, beaches and national parks to explore at your leisure.

Having graduated in 2016 myself it is fresh in my memory just how challenging it can be as a new graduate. It is due to this reason I want to be able to provide support and mentoring during this exciting time in your career, whilst also giving you some space to learn for yourself and take initiative when needed. We want to make sure you get a great start to your career and realise what a rewarding and amazing profession this is!

Being approximately 2.5 hours from Perth we get to see and workup some pretty amazing cases that you wouldn’t often see as a new graduate in a Perth clinic. We are a mixed practice predominately seeing dogs and cats but we are hoping to expand the large animal and equine business once we take on a second vet as the surrounding area of Badgingarra has a strong cattle and sheep industry.

As we are a relatively new clinic, we are still expanding our equipment but in the few years we have been open we have acquired Abaxis in house blood machines, IM3 Dental machine, In House ultrasound machine, CR X-ray machine, Anaesthetic monitoring and a fully equipped Surgery suite with a new Surgery light.

Please click here to see photos! photos

We are very flexible with any applicants who apply and can adjust the role to suit you – part time or full time, after hours or none – we will make it work!

Pay is above the award and pays are reviewed initially at 3-6 months after commencement. Continued learning is strongly encouraged at WVS with $1500 allocated for CPD each year and access to VIN. If you are comfortable or interested in working afterhours there is very generous renumeration for this, with 80% of professional fees going directly to the on-call vet. The working week is Monday to Friday.

If you want to have a chat, give Hannah a call on 0428962677 or email your CV info@wheatbeltvet.com.au Attn: Dr Hannah Morcombe Jurien Bay.

Feel free to check us out on Facebook – Wheatbelt Vet Services – Jurien Bay, check out our posts and reviews and see if you’d like to join the team.

We are seeking a full time or part time veterinarian for our mixed practice in Wongan Hills, located in the Central Wheatbelt. Both new and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Wheatbelt Vet Services has a friendly, proficient team of veterinarians, vet nurses and support staff. Working as a member of a team is a valued attribute and the staff are part of a close-knit group. Wheatbelt vets is a mixed rural practice, seeing 70% small animals, 15% equine and 15% sheep, cattle and other species. Our team is dedicated to providing a high standard of care to the communities of Wongan Hills, Dalwallinu and surrounds. The practice owner/head veterinarian has over 35 years’ experience and has employed new graduates for a number of years. She has a good understanding of the common stressors as a new graduate and is willing to provide support and mentorship during this time.

Employee reference
I started at Wheatbelt Vets in February 2020 as a new graduate and have had a fantastic start to my career. Dr Kirsten is a warm, supportive, and highly experienced vet and works with a team of equally supportive women with which I felt accepted and espected by from day dot. Kirsten has had a number of new graduates and was always more than happy to give advice - including over the phone after hours and on weekends. While there is some sole charge involved in the role I never felt verwhelmed because the expectations of me were realistic and I knew I always had Kirsten available if needed. I actually found that sole charge days were instrumental in the development of my confidence as a young vet and have made me better at my job.
The main clinic is based in Wongan Hills which is a small rural town an easy 2hrs from Perth. The town has a rich and welcoming social scene mostly based around sporting activities, however regular days in lieu allow you to maintain a social life in the city too. The clients are lovely and the caseload is varied and interesting.
I immensely enjoyed my time at Wheatbelt vets and have only left as I am traveling overseas. I would recommend the job to any new graduate and would be happy for the clinic to pass on my details to anyone interested in discussing this fantastic opportunity.

Dr Liz Carew-Hopkins (BsC DVM).

The job would involve full time work and some afterhours would be required. Lifelong learning is encouraged at Wheatbelt Vets and an allowance for continuing education will be provided. The practice is well equipped with a digital x-ray machine, small animal ultrasound, Abaxis blood machines, Surgivet anaesthetic monitor, iM3 dental machine, sheep pregnancy testing facilities, mobile horse crush and equine dental equipment. We also have an experienced pathologist on call for advice and second opinions on all pathology cases with no extra charge to the clients.

Remuneration is above award with generous after-hours compensation.

Wongan Hills is a small farming town in the heart of the Wheatbelt with good facilities, a friendly community, opportunities to pursue sports and only 2 hours from Perth.

About the Role:

Swan Valley Vet Centre is expanding rapidly and seeks a veterinarian with experience in small animal consulting and surgery. We will also be offering new graduate 12-month training positions.

The clinic offers all veterinarians exposure to a very high volume caseload in a dynamic first opinion environment.

We the introduce graduates to simple consulting tasks such as vaccination and post-op checks so that they can perfect their client-communication skills in low stress situations. Then, as the skill and confidence levels of the veterinarian increase, we support them through selected, more complex consultation-types. This intensively supervised period will last at least 6 months. Each new graduate will be partnered with a specific senior mentor within the practice veterinary team.

We offer an attractive remuneration and relocation package and / or sponsorship to the right candidate and happy to discuss further during the interview process.

EAST FREMANTLE, SOUTH-WEST PERTH - SMALL ANIMAL New Graduates welcome

Part Time Small Animal Veterinarian wanted

Join our team this Summer!

We have a new position available for you to join our team of five Vets, eight nurses and a dedicated practice manager.

Who are we?

So, what’s on offer?

What some of our Vets have to say about us:

‘I had the pleasure of working at the Vet Connection East Fremantle during 2021. The staff made me feel instantly welcome and part of a well-functioning team. The clinic is a beautiful heritage building situated in the busy hub of East Freo, close to funky cafes, river/beaches and of course Fremantle. The clinic is quaint, but don’t let that fool you… as you pass through the front courtyard, it has been tastefully renovated with large consulting rooms, separate dog and cat wards, imaging suite, theatre, pathology and separate dental room. It has all the amenities and mod-cons that a vet could need! I was also blessed to have amazing clients, who were invested in quality pet care. I had regular opportunities for continuing education and I was well supported in my role. It was a great place to work’.
Dr Carly Backhouse-Smith BSc BVMS - Senior Veterinarian.

‘The work environment at The Vet Connection could not be better for a new Vet. The experienced Vets are supportive, kind and truly inspiring clinicians. The staff are across the board a delight to work with and the clients are fantastic. I could not be happier with my choice to join this team. I have learned so much and grown as a Vet and a person under Dr Liam and Dr Kristin’s mentorship’.
Dr Emma Gofton DVM - Recent Graduate Murdoch University and current employee.

If this looks like the job for you please submit your resume and a few words about yourself to Liv at manager@thevetconnection.com.au

We look forward to meeting you soon!

CARNARVON, CORAL COAST - SMALL ANIMAL New Graduates welcome

Dreaming of the worst new graduate job ever…

Excited about getting a raw deal as a new grad?

Want to be over worked, under paid and thrown in the deep end?

If you answered ‘NO’ to the above, then we’re speaking each other’s language! Read on…

Hey there, I’m Dr Emma and I am certain that I could claim the title of ‘The Single Worst New Grad Experience!’

Don’t believe me? Let me tell you….

The year was 2006 and I was proud as punch with my new prefix ‘Dr’ Emma! I’d worked hard and I had made it! Wow- look at me go…

I’d also scored what I thought was the bee’s knees of new grad jobs, which quickly turned into a nightmare.

What I needed as a new grad:
a) Support
b) Mentorship
c) To work less 60+ hours a week

What I got as a new grad:
x) sole charge 3 weeks after graduation
y) the ‘sink or swim’ approach
z) an admission to hospital with complete burn out within the first month (yes, really)

How’s this story playing out so far?

With 16 years under the bridge, I’ve built a far bit of resilience and I can now look back and laugh. All that being said, I have an opportunity for someone that is looking for an experience nothing like my own.

‘So, what is it like to be a new grad at Coral Coast Vet?’

I will personally guide and support you through our graduate induction program.

It’s my mission to provide the best possible start, but the support doesn’t stop with me!

You will have a client liaison in every consult to have the boring discussions, write your notes and have the ‘money talk’ with clients.

Our clinic hours allow an amazing work/life balance- we close up at 4pm and you will have an RDO every week.

Please click here to see photos! photos

But don’t just take my word for it, this is what my current recent grad Dr Georgia has to say:

‘I started at Coral Coast Veterinary Hospital as a new graduate in 2021 and could not have asked for a more supportive and exciting environment to begin my veterinary career. Dr Emma is a fantastic boss who understands the needs of a new graduate and is always willing to provide support and guidance in whatever capacity you may need. I’m more than willing to discuss my experiences with anyone interested in this opportunity’
Dr Georgia Taylor AnSc (Hons) Bsc DVM

"Dr Emma, It Sounds Good, but...Carnarvon is in the middle of nowhere..."

It is, kinda! A 2 hour flight has you back in the hustle and bustle of Perth and I offer a return flight each year. We take extra time to ensure your relocation is a smooth experience! If you like a laid-back outdoor lifestyle at the gateway to the Ningaloo reef whilst being immersed in the Gascoyne food bowl, then you will love it! Not to mention you will get experience that 'big city' clinics never see.

‘What sort of experience will I get?’

As a regional small animal GP, you will get to observe and play a role in a wide variety of cases, without the overwhelm of ‘going it alone’.

‘Dr Emma, I Am Keen To Know More…’

Send me a text on 0431 066 926 or call for a chat! If email is more your thing, I can be reached at emma@coralcoastvet.com.au

If it is an opportunity that is worth exploring further for both of us, then I'm sure we'll both know it!

Comment from current Staff member :
"I have worked at this clinic since graduating from university at the end of 2019, I am now in my 3rd year out from uni. Since starting here, my skillset has dramatically improved as we have a varied and exciting case load. As our closest referral hospital is over 5 hours away, we have the opportunity to do complex work ups and surgeries and advanced emergency medicine. There is a good mixture of large and small animal work, as we see goats, sheep, alpacas, horses, cows, pocket pets, dogs and cats. Being able to work in a rural setting has been rewarding and you do feel like a vital part of the community. I have been challenged to improve as a vet, however, have always had support and someone to call, no matter the time or day. The team is young, fun and progressive. The nurses are supportive and have excellent skills to assist us vets. The management of the clinic is supportive and constantly finding ways to improve working conditions and equipment for our team. The salary is more than competitive, especially being a rural clinic. I would recommend this clinic as a great workplace for someone who is interested in working in a mixed rural setting with up to date protocols, salaries and equipment" Stacey, current employee
