Both experienced colleagues and enthusiastic new graduates are encouraged to apply. Our large purpose-built small animal hospital and equine facility offers all the equipment and facilities to practice excellent quality veterinary medicine and surgery.
A high percentage of our work is small animal with the rest being mainly equine although we do have a small amount of cattle, sheep and wildlife work. Although we are a mixed practice, we would be happy to accept the right small animal veterinarian.
Small animal facilities: Digital x-ray, ultrasound with colour doppler, pulse oximetry, in-house laboratory and cytology, infusion pumps, oxygen generators and orthopaedic instrumentation are components of our practice. We have a considerable about of emergency work and a high orthopaedic caseload, referral when indicated is encouraged but we perform the majority in house so a candidate with an interest in surgery would fit right in!

We have a large team of qualified and enthusiastic nurses who are there to support the veterinarians both during regular and after hours.
So, if a rural mixed practice with a wonderfully varied caseload, and strong support staff appeals, then we would welcome your application. Salary will be discussed on application. Here at Benetook Vet Clinic work life balance is very important to us, we have LIMITED after hours. Our after-hours service is only available on weekends from 8:30am until 5pm for both Saturday and Sundays, this is shared with all veterinary surgeons, with a 4-day rostered weekend off each duty cycle. - 1 in 7 weeknights on call plus 1 in 7 weekends on call

- Branch clinic located in Warrandyte, a beautiful village nestled in the green wedge alongside the Yarra River, 40 min east of the CBD
- Independently owned business with two directors who will happily clean cages, and work shoulder to shoulder with the associates
- Both clinics comprehensively equipped with premium diagnostic and monitoring equipment.
Words from one of our Associate Vets:
- We are one of the few clinics where is it possible to live in the "city" and do mixed animal practice
- Our nurses are well-trained to look after us, not over-book and give us enough time for consults, phone calls and catch-ups. Lunchtimes and home-times are considered sacred, and we almost always get out on time. If you want to leave the clinic to go for a walk or pick up lunch at lunchtime, that is almost always possible.
- Doing on-call is an opportunity to serve the local community, to gain unique experience, learn to think on your feet and see some cool cases, but we also have the ability to refer small animal emergencies to 24-hour centres so they can receive the best of care (which also means on-call isn't overly busy)
- As we see such a variety of animals and cases, there is definitely the ability for vets to develop a special interest - anything from alpacas, or equine dentistry, or small animal behaviour. But otherwise, this is an awesome clinic to become a well-rounded mixed animal practitioner, with vets experienced in different areas to provide support and guidance.
- Our large animal work is often for clients who keep a small number of these animals as pets, and so individual diagnostics and treatment are often pursued, but there is also the scope for doing some herd health work if vets are interested
- We have the ability both to work-up and treat complicated cases in-house, and use travelling specialists, but also, we commonly refer and have excellent relationships with specialist centres
- Our clients are generally excellent, usually very respectful and keen to do the best for their animals. As a small independent practice, we have many clients that have been coming to the clinic for decades and value the personalised care we can provide for their animals.
- We are a very casual, friendly, chatty bunch. We work hard but have fun. The radio plays out the back. We often sit and have lunch together. The vet team are very supportive and approachable and share cases and ideas and ask each other for help commonly.
Please contact Jackie at jhall@thevetsurgery.com.au or at the Yarrambat Veterinary Hospital 03 9436 1699 to register your interest or to further discuss the position.

ROMSEY, MACDEON RANGES - MIXED ANIMAL
Veterinarian – Mixed Practice – Romsey Veterinary Surgery
Romsey Veterinary Surgery is one of the expanding Apiam Animal Health group of regional and rural clinics that are committed to enriching the lives of animals, people and communities.
We have 2 positions in our expanding team for mixed practice veterinarians.
The Positions:
- Two full-time positions with a truly mixed caseload. Ideally, we seek vets with 2+ years’ experience in mixed practice. New graduates seeking variety with good support from senior vets should also apply.
- The overall practice mix is approximately 70% companion animals, 30% large animals.
- The large animal work is a mix of mostly beef cattle and small ruminants and occasional equine. We see small ruminants, alpacas and cattle on an almost daily basis, with the type of cases that comes with peri-urban hobby farm clients as well as larger commercial farm clients.
- We provide veterinary services to a range of local farm animal sanctuary organisations. This provides opportunity for our vets to be exposed to a wide range of complex and interesting medical and surgical cases in species that are otherwise conventionally treated differently.
Our Workplace:
- Our Clinic Coordinator Tanya describes our clinic as “a happy place to be” and our staff frequently socialise outside of work. We have a mix of younger staff and more experienced staff, and we pride ourselves on being friendly, professional and caring toward all species regardless of their size or what day of the week it is.
- We prioritise work-life balance and focus on having a really flexible roster because we understand that there is life outside of the veterinary profession.
- We schedule regular breaks wherever possible. Vets work a 4-day week and days off are structured around weekends off wherever possible in order to maximise time off. Vets typically work a consult / surgery / outcall focused shift, so everyone gets opportunity to play in the field and in the clinic.
- We seek vets who enjoy working within a supportive and exceptionally collaborative team and who will contribute to a positive workplace and have a bit of fun along the way
- Our veterinary team include 3 full time and 1 part time vets, a couple with 10-15 years’ experience, and a couple with 2-3 years’ experience.
- We have modern equipment and computers, RxWorks, full inhouse IDEXX bloods, Surgivet anaesthetic monitors, DR radiography, dental x-ray and im3 dental machine, surgical electrocautery etc. and we tackle complex and routine soft tissue and orthopaedic cases.
- We consistently perform in-clinic anaesthesia and surgical procedures on small ruminants and alpacas, as well as in the field.
- We are rapidly developing and innovating the clinic to cater for the expanding workload, including plans to develop additional surgical capacity.
- We provide a vital after-hours service for our clients which is also balanced by nearby emergency referral centres, so our caseload is not overwhelming. This will be a maximum of 1:4 and less frequent as the team grows. We utilize Apiam’s terrific, dedicated after-hours Triage Nurse Team system who answer and filter all calls and who do a great job reducing unnecessary disturbance of our vets.
- We have VIN subscription, plumbs subscription and VetS8
Location:
Located in Romsey, Victoria. We enjoy all the benefits of country living and have easy access to Melbourne less than an hour away. At our clinic you can enjoy the overwhelming satisfaction of delivering a live calf and then finishing your day to enjoy restaurants/eateries in Melbourne. The district also features award winning wineries, great dining, historic architecture and great natural environment for bushwalking, cycling etc. at the nearby Macedon Ranges and Cobaw forest.

WARRNAMBOOL, SOUTH-WEST COAST - SMALL ANIMAL POSITION IN MIXED PRACTICE
Are you looking to escape the city for a more relaxed lifestyle, but are worried you will have to sacrifice your standards of patient care?
At Warrnambool Veterinary, we pride ourselves on our ability to provide high standards of veterinary medicine, because we know that practicing rurally doesn’t mean compromising on patient care.
The Clinic:
We are incredibly proud of our companion animal hospital, which is always growing and adapting to new standards of care, and ensuring we have all of the diagnostic tools a regional clinic could dream of, including digital Xray, dental Xray, ultrasound, endoscope, istat blood gas machines, coagulation, faecal and cytology analysers, CBC/Biochem blood machine and anaesthetic monitoring equipment including blood pressure and ECG.
We have a high case load of both routine and non-routine surgeries and have all the equipment required to perform fracture repairs, TTAs and TPLOs.
For those more difficult cases that require specialist referral or CT imaging, not only are we 2.5hrs from the closest referral hospital, and we are fortunate enough to have a specialist surgeon visit our clinic fortnightly to assist with managing cases locally.
Our Team:
Our family of 50-ish staff enjoy plenty of socialisation, especially with Victoria finally opening up again.
Having fun while delivering a professional and valuable service to our clients is a huge priority, but we also prioritise a work-life balance, and working overtime and beyond clinic hours is not common practice at our clinic.
We know that the industry is challenging, and we want our staff to love their jobs and enjoy their lifestyle.
While we are passionate about primary case management, we also believe that working as a team is the best way to provide patient care, and as a result, you will always have support to manage cases should you need it.

- The after-hours roster includes one weekend in 5 and no more than 1 night duty during the week. After hours is supported by Apiam’s tele-triage nurse team who filter, and triage all calls so as to minimise unnecessary vet disturbance.

This role is ideal for a new/recent graduate who wants to begin or advance their career in a supportive team with a great graduate program. We have successfully trained multiple graduates to become exceptional all-round vets in recent years. If you are looking for a hands-on job where the team support and invest in teaching you – look no further!
As well as our bricks and mortar clinic - Moe Veterinary Centre (MVC) - in Moe (1.5-hour drive from Melbourne CBD and 1 hour from both beaches and snow fields) we operate a house call service via our Gippsland Mobile Vets (GMV) business. Our vets enjoy the variety of covering shifts across both businesses.

We recently renovated the entire facility to become a luxury, gold standard hospital (the new facility is stunning and less than 12-months old). We work hard to have excellent team communication and enjoy the cohesive group of people we work alongside.

LARA - SMALL ANIMALS
Guess what? Another clinic needing a veterinarian! Vet 2 Pet is a non-corporate GP small animal only clinic with a mobile service offered daily. One of our full-time vets LOVES this part of the work so this would be rarely required however we have found that the team really enjoy getting out and about. A nurse always accompanies the vets on house-calls meaning we can offer quality in home care. We also see a fair few exotics and natives but again this would be minimal if it’s not ‘your thing’.
As a team we are extremely supportive and collaborative, at the same time we are laid-back and love a joke. Our staff party this year was paintball followed by a bonfire – we don’t take ourselves too seriously! Our focus is on patient care and client relations not KPI’s. Our opening hours are Monday to Friday 8am-6pm, no weekends or public holidays and minimal to no overtime! Currently our full-time vets work 4 days a week. We are interested in candidates seeking either part time or full-time work.
We are Located in Lara (15-20 minutes from Geelong CBD, 25-30 minutes from Werribee) on a large block with extensive native gardens. Huge custom-built clinic with all the toys.
If this sounds like you please get in touch. Feel free to call Laura (owner/vet) on 0402 846 210 or email laura.a.schram@gmail.com

ARARAT, SOUTH-WEST VIC - MIXED OR SMALL ANIMAL OR LARGE ANIMAL
VETERINARIAN (Large Animal, Mixed Practice Veterinarian or Small Animal Only Position available – YOU CHOOSE!) - Full or Part-time
About the Role:
Experience is preferred but not essential - we would love to take the right candidate under our wing and nurture them through their formative years of veterinary practice though personal and professional development. Future partnership would also be considered for the right candidate.
Dr Ali took the reins and bought the Ararat Vet Clinic last year. The clinic is growing rapidly not to mention the region, so we need another vet on board who is driven and ambitious for a fulfilling career.
We are a privately owned mixed practice, (only a few left in the region) fantastically located at the foot of the Grampians, Western Victoria, just 2 hours from Melbourne for those that need their city fix, and 1.5hrs from the coast. We are 3 minutes from the closest winery and 3 minutes from the pub.
Our family friendly practice is rapidly expanding with a huge and interesting case load - 60% small animals and 40% large animals (beef cattle, sheep, equine, alpacas), with the freedom to make the position your own. We currently have a team of 5 experienced vets with no KPS in place, just trust and management of day-to-day cases in a bustling clinic.
Please click here to see photos!
For large animal vets, typical work includes cattle preg testing, brucellosis testing, heard health management, lameness, calvings, disease investigation, individual animal diagnosis, equine dentistry, colics, wound management and more. If racing is your thing, we also attend harness race meets, gallops and the local rodeo.
For small animal vets, you can expect challenging and interesting surgery and medical cases, and plenty of emergencies for those that like a bit of ECC to keep the adrenalin pumping. Our clients are happy to spend money and we are happy whether that’s in-house or referral, working with our clients and ensuring their pets health and happiness is front of mind.
For mixed practice vets, the world is your oyster!
We have all the usual medical toys and if we don’t have something, no problem, we are happy to get it as the best quality equipment enables the best possible outcome.
After hours are currently 1 in 8 weekends as we share with our neighbouring family practice – we also use an external triage service which means that our vets aren’t disturbed unless it is absolutely crucial. This has helped mental health and our ability to switch off form the job enormously.
We are a very laid back and progressive team with professional development and work life balance being an absolute priority. We have partnered with the Lincoln Institute to promote staff wellbeing and professional development though strong leadership and team culture.
Ali started at the Ararat Veterinary Clinic as a new graduate 12 years ago, she went on to work in Emergency Critical Care (ECC) in Melbourne as a referral vet, worked in the Middle East then come back to Melbourne to work at an AVSA accredited hospital.
Later on, Ali worked for the Federal Government as the Large Animal Facility Veterinarian for the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) but found her passion was working in clinical practice and came back to help make a difference in the Veterinary Industry and is passionate about team culture and innovation.
If you’re looking for a new and exciting opportunity, we would love to hear from you so if this interests you at all then please give us a call on 0448 269 427, or drop us your CV at management.araratvets@gmail.com

The practice owner is very flexible and is happy to accommodate annual leave requests and when staff want a break. The practice owner has a lot of experience. I have learnt a lot from him. There have been lots of opportunities to learn new things at this practice. I feel like I have experience with more things than if I had been working in at a city practice. This has been a really great practice to work at. There is enough large animal work that we see cases every day. There is also a lot of wildlife at the practice. The town has been really good. BAIRNSDALE, GIPPSLAND - MIXED
Yep, we are yet another mixed practice, looking for yet another mixed or smallies vet for yet another permanent or part time role to join our amazing, wonderful, beautiful team. We would consider a pair of vets (I know, these are rare as hens teeth) and partnership is an option for the right candidate.
Who are we?
Eastwood Vets – we are the new kid on the block down in Bairnsdale, Victoria. We are small, but we are mighty. We are growing rapidly (the clinic and our families) and are looking for a vet, experienced or new grad, to join our team.
We could tell you all the generic stuff about our clinic, and it’s all good stuff to know but it’s all the same (purpose-built clinic, 7 amazing and qualified nurses, modern equipment, compassionate quality vet care, yadda yadda yadda, you’ve heard it all before). What we’d rather do is tell you about what makes us different, better even, than all these other mixed practice job adds you’ve been browsing.
- Awesome café right next door – great coffee, good food, on tap.
- Slow cooker Fridays – Yep, that’s a sit down home cooked lunch every Friday. Ok, so sit down may not always be accurate, but the delicious slow cooked cuisine we enjoy every week makes it a little easier to take the Friday crazies.
- Family friendly – we all have, have had, or want to have young families and we want our families to be a priority. So, while we may not be able to offer “school hours” we are all about compromise so that the important stuff in your life gets the time it deserves
- Work life balance – we love hobbies, we encourage and support hobbies. We work to live, not the other way around and we hope that you are the same. We value doing a good job and we won’t compromise on the quality of care that our patients and clients receive but we also value our own sanity, and we will bend to make sure we all maintain happiness in our workplace and stella mental health.

Where are we
Eastwood, in Bairnsdale…… Google it…. The Travel Victoria website will tell you everything you need to know about this amazing region that you could learn to call home. There’s lots of stuff here… All the things you need (hospitals, schools, shopping etc), plus there is lots of fun stuff too (snowfields, beaches, the iconic Gippsland Lakes, all within stone throw from the clinic).
Sensible stuff you probably do need to know:
Currently, we have a mixture of four vets working through the clinic, two full time & two part time. Pay and all conditions are negotiable and are a minimum of 20% above award (for an experienced vet equivalent of $150K per annum for PFT plus after hours). Very comfortable accommodation is available for any interested applicant during afterhours and initial commencement of employment while you fall in love with us.
Please email applications or call the clinic and speak to Meg.

GOULBURN VALLEY, SHEPPARTON - MIXED OR SMALL ANIMAL - EXPERIENCED OR NEW GRAD
Small or Mixed Animal Vet Opportunity
GV Vets are looking for a full-time associate vet to join our team in Shepparton. If you're interested in joining a great group of people, in a family owned and operated clinic, please read on.
A few words to describe the values we consider important at GV Vets: Work-life balance, kindness, laughter, family, compassion, massages at work, exceptional service, professionalism, supportive, home baked treats in the tearoom.
We are proud to be Shepparton’s only locally owned and operated clinic, we are advertising for an additional vet for a couple of reasons, one being there's something in the water here and two of our legendary veterinary team have fallen pregnant. The other being that we are renovating our cottage style clinic to grow and improve our hospital and consulting space.
Our renovation plans include a dedicated cat waiting area, a dental treatment room, a comfortable grieving/euthanasia space as well as an upstairs staff area with spaces for nursing mothers and maybe even a nap at lunchtime when required. We tried to convince the boss to give us a rooftop bar, but we couldn't quite get it through on the final plans.
Please click here to see photos!
The ideal candidate has a primary focus on small animals and while mixed practice skills would be amazing (particularly cattle) they’re not necessary for you to apply. Experienced vets and new graduates will both be considered for the role. We’re looking for veterinary skills that come with a sense of humour and a great teamwork mindset. Our clinic is busy, but there’s plenty of support available with 9 vets (7 FTE) and 20 support staff, including 10 Cert IV Vet Nurses. Our clinic has all the standard equipment expected of a modern general practice and many of the extra ‘toys’ to allow us to perform a comprehensive in-house work up with efficiency and offer best practice medicine: a combination of IDEXX & Abaxis in-house blood, coagulation, urinalysis & sedivue machines; imaging – portable ultrasound, digital touchscreen radiography, iM3 dental radiography; video otoscope & flexible endoscopes; TonoVet tonometer, electrocautery and separate surgery & dental / procedures rooms allowing dual anaesthetics each with dedicated patient warming and monitoring machines, large animal equipment including bull testing, pregnancy ultrasound, in-house milk culture and blood testing.
We aim for flexibility to find a roster that works for both you and the clinic, for example full time vets can work a four-day week with one regular weekday RDO or shorter shifts of five days a week. We share the weekend and after-hours roster between everyone whilst also providing backup to support you for cases that fall outside of a particular vet's comfort zone. We strongly support continuing education and encourage vets to find and expand their areas of interest with further study, webinars, conferences and clinical practice.
Shepparton is a fantastic place to live, with all the shops, amenities and conveniences of a major regional centre with the luxury of space and country-feel farmland all around. We have a diverse, multicultural, proud and progressive community with fantastic schools and health services. There are many great sporting and cultural opportunities, superb restaurants and cafes, we are close to the river if you're into boating, camping or fishing, there’s great hiking trails and we are close to the ski fields if you like damaging your knees. Going to Melbourne for a gig or footy match or festival is within 2 hours drive.
Comprehensive salary package on offer to the right candidate, including base salary, superannuation, continuing education, after-hours, registrations, memberships and bonus scheme.

NAGAMBIE, GOULBURN VALLEY - EQUINE
Yulong Stud has a position within the veterinary team of our business. Working alongside our two resident vets, you will cover all aspects of a thoroughbred stud.
Yulong is a growing thoroughbred stud based in Nagambie, Victoria. Spread over 3,000 acres and across four adjoining properties, Yulong currently has five resident stallions and 400 broodmares with over 200 foals to yearlings. Consigning yearlings at all major sales throughout Australia, and a racing team of eighty plus horses gives the veterinarians great job variety and exposure to all aspects of the business.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and organised person who wishes to be part of a close-knit veterinary team as well as learning the structure and management of a thoroughbred stud. As we are currently in the development phase of two of the additional stud properties, you would be involved with input into set up and design of vet working areas within these properties.
The chosen candidate would be joining an established veterinary practice with two highly competent veterinary nurses and two veterinarians. Dr. Pownall joined the team in 2022. She graduated from James Cook University in 2017 and spent one year in mixed practice before completing 3 breeding seasons with an equine clinic in Scone. Dr. Meyer graduated from Washington State University. She then went onto complete a surgery internship followed by a medicine fellowship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute. Dr Meyer has 10 years of experience in both clinical and stud medicine between the American and Australian thoroughbred industries. The veterinary team is a very friendly group with a strong passion to provide excellent patient care while still pursuing a good work life balance. With support from the other resident vets, you will share the on-call roster with the option of having four-day weeks in the months of May, June and July.
Yulong’s veterinary facilities include a full lab comprised of hematology, chemistry and blood gas machines along with the ability to do cultures and sensitivities. We also have portable ultrasound, digital radiograph and video endoscope machines. Additionally, our practice has strong relationships with nearby equine referral hospitals and therefore referral and additional support from internal medicine specialist, surgeons and theriogenologists is also available.
Reproduction would be the main focus during the breeding season and being proficient with scanning mares pre and post service, pregnancy testing and twin ablation is essential. The ideal candidate will also have prior experience with emergency stud work, foal medicine, yearling endoscopy, and radiography as well as racehorse lameness. However, a veterinarian with less experience in the latter areas will still be considered as mentorship from the senior stud veterinarians will be available. We would encourage you to attend seminars and clinics to further your education in all fields of veterinary work and the company will provide financial support for this.
You would have the opportunity to attend yearling sales to oversee the veterinary care of our yearling draft whilst on the sale complex. As well as assisting management with yearling inspections and completing thorough pre purchase clinical examinations, reading pre-sale x-rays and evaluating pre-sale upper airway endoscopy videos.
We currently have a staff of 65 and the ability to effectively communicate as well as assist with ongoing education of the stud staff is vitally important to the growth of the business.
The breeding side of the operation is located the beautiful wine region of the lower Goulburn Valley. We are located a quick 1.5-hour drive or train ride into central Melbourne. A fifth property, Yulong Park, serves as the spelling farm for our racehorses and is located on the opposite side of Melbourne and is only a short drive away from the Mornington Peninsula.
If you are ambitious and wish to advance your career further, then this would be the ideal position for you.
Requirements:
- Degree in Veterinary Medicine/Science eligible for full veterinary registration in Victoria
- A candidate who has completed an equine internship will be given preference but is not essential
- Minimum of one year of equine reproduction focused work
- Victorian driver’s license
