ST LUCIA, RIVERSIDE BRISBANE - SMALL ANIMAL
At Vets in the Village we’re challenging traditional approaches to veterinary care, starting with transparency. This job description is no different, it’s transparent and concise written by me (Dr Ellen Finney) and Tim, the clinic owners.
Are you looking for a flexible role at an independent family run practice where you can regularly conduct surgeries, have your voice heard and valued, and work in a homely renovated Queenslander? Are you seeking a role where your impact will be felt beyond clinical delivery?
We're an 11-month-old vet clinic in the heart of St Lucia, offering premium services to the local community from a newly renovated Queenslander inclusive of timber floors, gardens, windows and Brisbane’s first Transparency Room. Our team consists of me as head vet, 2 senior nurses and 2 junior nurses.
Please click here to see photos!
Why are we different? We’re family-owned and we take a client-focused approach to veterinary care with an emphasis on communication, education, and transparency in all that we do.
What we can offer you:
- Family orientated culture with a flexible work roster (2 – 3 days/week) with opportunity for more days as we grow.
- Direct access to clinic owners who value your opinion and will seek your assistance to build our village family.
- Only work 2 Saturdays/month, no out of hours, on call or Sunday work.
- Remuneration starting from $120,000 (FTE equivalent, pro rata).
- 30 min standard consults, brand-new state of the art equipment, a variety of indoor and outdoor consulting areas for more anxious villagers, ongoing support from me and Tim and a brand new clinic.
- A team that values family, fun and inclusivity. We regularly host social events, most recently going to Broncos v Roosters together. Got a great social event idea? We’d love to hear it.
What you can offer us:
- Minimum 4 years experience working independently and as part of a team.
- A desire to conduct surgery alongside consulting duties. I love internal medicine and imaging, so I’m looking for a superstar surgeon to support me.
- Exceptional communication skills, transparent approach to veterinary care and a willingness to adapt to new ideas and approaches.
- Someone who loves to build meaningful connections with our clients, who are very loyal and embrace our village ethos.
Curious? Feel free to drop in at any time, we’d love to show you around our space and introduce ourselves. Or check out our website at www.vetsinthevillage.com.au
If you’d like to apply, please email me (Dr Ellen Finney) at admin@vetsinthevillage.com.au. Being family owned, we can move quickly.
We’d like someone to start from mid-July, however we can be flexible for the right villager.

CAPALABA, CITY OF REDLAND - SMALL ANIMAL
Opportunity: Part Time Associate Vet Role
Location: Capalaba, QLD
Start date: Open
Okay, so you’ve done some hard yards to get to where you are. You’ve slogged through Uni, you graduated, you partied, you entered the industry, and found your feet. With this stressful transition and few years of clinical work behind you, you’re ready to realise the return on your investment in yourself and your career. It’s time to find a workplace that truly understands your aspirations and delivers on its promises!
Please click here to see photos!
This is a simple equation: You tell us your needs and we tell you ours. If we can give each other what we need, then we’re on.
Here’s what we THINK you need:
- Fair remuneration – this just requires an open conversation. It’s not scary. You tell us what you think is fair and reasonable and we figure out if its affordable. Starting salary $100K full time equivalent
- Balanced lifestyle – no staying back unpaid because this is your “life vocation”, no after hours unless you want to do it, no double booking or “squeezing” appointments in, no 15 minute primary consults – they’re ALL 30 minutes so you have time to do a proper job = job satisfaction.
- Support – a vet team who ask each other for advice, who love collaborating on cases and sharing knowledge, who recognise that in doing so they develop their knowledge in ways that reading can’t. Reliable and effective nurses who know their job and leap to help you. Many locum vets have commented that our nursing team is the best they’ve ever worked with.
- Excellent equipment – IDEXX Procyte and Catalyst machines, UA Analyser, iM3 dental equipment, digital dental radiology, TonoVet tonometer, ultrasound machine, diathermy, heated anaesthetic tubing, NIBP, ECG, ETCo2 monitoring equipment etc.
- Wonderful culture – no politics, no drama. We have fun together, we have open and honest conversations, we share a common vision to do a great job. We do fun activities together four times a year. Last year it included sailing on Moreton Bay for 3 days, and this year it’s shark diving at Julian Rocks in NSW. These adventures are all expenses paid. Why? Because that’s how you build a great team of people who know and trust each other.
- Inclusive management – My name’s Sam. I own My Local Vet. Can I manage it on my own? Of course not. I rely on YOU, the team, to run the show. The team quite literally make all the decisions. I just bring the questions – should we do this, or that?
- Responsive management – My aspiration always has been to cultivate and amazing workplace. I can’t do that without your feedback. Something you don’t like? We have a conversation and find a solution. It’s that simple. No escalating the issue to your supervisor and then the manager only to find she’s currently on annual leave so you’ll have to wait until she’s back. Just talk to ME. I’m a one stop shop.

ORMEAU, LOGAN/NORTHERN GOLD COAST - SMALL ANIMAL
You’ve probably read all the ads out there and they all look the same, they all offer an amazing workplace, a great team, a good salary package, flexibility etc. How do you choose or believe what everyone says? We all say the same thing, employers will always try to convince you and the wording is very vague, right?
What is the real meaning of good, great, flexible? That’s very subjective and the scientist in us wants numbers, facts, evidence-based arguments!!
My Kind of Vet, situated in Ormeau is seeking a skilled and compassionate full time vet to join its Award Winning team on the beautiful Northern Gold Coast. As a veterinarian, you will play a crucial role in providing high quality veterinary care to our clients’ beloved pets.
Let me try to give you some of that and you can interpret the results as the great clinician you are:
- We are diverse: amongst the 12 of us we speak about 7 languages, we come from 4 different continents, and we can cook foods you've never had before!
- Our cultural diversity is key to our diversity of thoughts: do you have a better way to handle a stressful cat? Tell me all about it.
- We love feedback: our protocols are developed, written and implemented by the people involved in the work.
- We value different opinions: I like to do my dentals on lateral recumbency, how do you do yours?
- We value mental fitness: I like to drive to work listening to classical music and I do consider having a punch bag at work for the moments we just need to let everything out!
- Education is key: we always go over our budget for training. Well, those conferences are expensive and there’s so much we want to do!
- Emotional intelligence is a priority: we are part of Lincoln Institute, and we talk about growth and development
- We listen to you: meetings are about preventing and solving problems, we are focused on what is best for the team and the patient
- Our clients are part of your team: we cultivate a positive relationship with them and strengthen that bond to provide the best care for their pet

Dr David Watkins: A Journey to Leadership
"After graduating, it seemed all so clear to me. It had been the end of a long journey, one with many sacrifices to firstly get into vet school and then graduate. Finally, I was done, and I could get to work doing what I had started it all for. My first job was an exciting, fast-paced practice with a varied caseload that quickly taught me that there was still so much to learn about myself, my clients, and the animals I was entrusted care of. Luckily, I had the support I needed, and even in the rare cases of something going wrong, I always knew everyone on the team had my back. When I reflected on what we had achieved as a team and all the lives we had changed for the better, both animal and human, I would remember why it was that I was here to begin with, why I had told every adult who had asked me as a child what I was going to do when I grew up. I want to help, and in doing so, that gives my life meaning, and it gives my life purpose.
So, this is why I decided to step into leadership. I wanted to take what I had learned, elevate it and provide that support, care and development for others. From the start, as a team, we have challenged the status quo. We are brave enough to do what we say we do. Being the owner of PetKind Paddington Vet, I am lucky enough to help the clients and animals that we see and form bonds with, as well as be part of a team of wonderful individuals just like me when I first started. We are the change we want to see as animal health care professionals.
Every day I change lives and make an impact. That is my why."

Full time Primary Care Veterinary position – Experienced Vets (3+ years) with the chance to learn or practice Ultrasound skills, Body and Cardiac, Advanced Dental Procedures and full Medical condition workups. Ownership/partnership potential available for interested candidates in the future.
Centenary Vets is an incredibly well-equipped Primary Care Hospital. We have grown to 7 Vets (3 full-time, 4 part-time). We staff ourselves well with 3-4 Vets per day with 7-10 procedures performed daily. Our practice employs Vets of varied levels of experience and are currently seeking a 3+ years experience Veterinarian to fulfil a vacant role. Salary Packages (inc. super and continuing ed) commensurate with ability and negotiable.
Our driving philosophy is to Improve Vets' work conditions in areas like remuneration, conditions, happiness, skills with modern Veterinary diagnostic equipment, and meeting the pet care needs of exceptional clients
We have worked hard over the last 7 years to develop a workplace that is designed to support our Vets and provide a job that is “normal”. We are more interested in Our Veterinary Staff having the support, opportunities and conditions that exist in other professions and can be hard to find in Vet.
Our Staff
All have a desire to make their place of work exceptional and to work with other exceptional people. We encourage Staff to improve their skills and want their Job to mean something. For Us a stable work environment is key - this is what we staff to and schedule to.
Our Clients
Our clients support a 90% case work-up rate with >50% revisit ratios - makes for a truly unique working environment. There are 30 minute Consults with an occasional 20 minute requirement. Work pace is planned and the practice is staffed to be run at a steady pace with the occasionally busy period. Nurse support is exceptional with 1-2 Cert 4 Nurses available per Vet.
Our Workplace
Centenary Vet Hospital works out of new premises built to Hospital accreditation as of August 2015. We have a dedicated positive pressure Surgery and dedicated Dental and Imaging room. We work hard to have an environment that Clients and Staff want to be in.
Our Goals are to improve the Veterinary Landscape
We want to work primarily with Clients that also want accurate diagnosis and treatment.
Our staff (particularly Vets) only work what they are employed to work. We promote good health support (physical and mental) and aim to improve wages to compete with other industries.
At Centenary Vet Hospital, Veterinary Staff are paid for hours worked; paid market rates well above award; have access to HR and support structures; and we provide whatever is needed to work professionally and happily. If your current job has too many speys, too difficult a culture, too many difficult Clients, too little support or growth opportunities, and too few interesting Medical Cases, then this position will suit you.

BROADBEACH, GOLD COAST - SMALL ANIMAL
Permanent Full Time Vet Position
ASAV Hospital of Excellence with family friendly hours.
Join us at Gold Coast Vet Surgery, where compassion meets clinical excellence.
We are sadly losing a much loved and integral member of our family. After being with us for nearly 10 years this dedicated vet is reluctantly leaving due to family commitments, so whilst we’re thrilled for her, our team are hurting. Can you help us to fill their shoes?
We’re looking for a kind and compassionate vet who listens to the clients needs and tailors their treatment to the individual patient and not corporate demands.
Vets who work with us repeatedly comment how different and wonderful our clients are. We believe that working with caring and dedicated clients who are willing to do the necessary diagnostics and the best possible treatments is key to both successful clinical outcomes and job satisfaction for us as vets. We are truly blessed with fantastic clients who seek us out for our reputation of caring and compassionate vet care that leads to peace of mind for them, and the best possible care for their pets. Over the 17 years that we have owned the practice we have worked hard on attracting and retaining these types of clients and we have also had a strong focus on encouraging pet insurance.
As the Gold Coast’s only ASAV Accredited Hospital of Excellence you can rest assured that we are well equipped with the necessary equipment to do our job well. Please click here to see photos!
But to join our team you don’t have to be a “superstar vet” - none of us are perfect, so please don’t expect that of us! We are looking for a vet who strives to do their best, who believes that compassion and client communication are key to successful outcomes, and someone who wants the support to keep on improving. At Gold Coast Vet Surgery, not only is CPD encouraged and funded, but our package also includes membership of Lincoln Institute’s “Leading Edge” program and VIN. The clinic owners believe in mentorship and support to the whole team and we are ready to assist with those curly cases or snarly clients, leaving you to be the best vet that you can be and practice vet science the way it’s meant to be. We run the clinic collaboratively and your opinion will be considered and your contributions truly appreciated. As a compassionate, family orientated business you will work alongside the owners who understand your workload and challenges and there is no corporate head office to deal with.
We value a healthy lifestyle and encourage a good work-life balance. Our vets work a four day week with no after hours or Sunday work and family friendly business hours (8am – 5:30pm Mon to Fri and 8:30am – 12pm on Saturdays). Saturday mornings are on a one in four rotation, with a half day off the following Friday afternoon. We have an excellent local referral hospital (VSS) and two after hours emergency centres on our doorstep (AES & AEC) which means that you’ll still have the peace of mind that your patients will be very well cared for after hours.
If you enjoy making a difference in people’s experience at the vet, and are proud to provide exceptional customer service as part of a fun team, then this is the position for you. Our practice attracts clients who expect and appreciate a caring, thorough and yet practical approach. If you are looking for job satisfaction, like to work up cases and like to develop a personal relationship and rapport with your clients, then you will flourish in our “family”.
To apply, please email Dr Kevin Cruickshank at: vet@goldcoastvet.com.au with your resume and a covering letter outlining why this is the position for you.
Absolute confidentiality is assured.

ANSTEAD, BRISBANE WEST - EQUINE INTERNSHIP WITH MIXED ANIMAL COMPONENT New Position
EQUINE INTERNSHIP WITH MIXED ANIMAL COMPONENT
3 Positions starting in January 2025 at Anstead
We are currently recruiting new graduates for our 12-month internship position(s), commencing in January 2025. The internship is focused on developing new graduate veterinarians into confident mixed animal veterinarians. This is a rotating internship that is structured to give veterinarians a strong immersion in equine clinical practice whilst still enabling them to maintain their small animal and basic ruminant/camelid skills.
Interns will gain a broad range of clinical skills to prepare them for whichever road they choose post internship. Our intern graduates have gone on to pursue further internships in preparation for residencies, worked as mixed or equine veterinarians both locally and within Australia, and gone abroad to work in the UK. We also offer opportunities for intern graduates to stay on as associates at WestVETS. Our internship is an ideal transition for recent and new graduates who would like further experience before committing to pursue sole equine vs mixed practice or small animal.
A typical intern day starts at 7am with inpatient assessment and treatments. Hospital rounds occur at 8 AM with supervising clinicians, at which time daily patient plans are reassessed. Following rounds, interns will either assist with inpatient re-evaluation and procedures, outpatient, or ambulatory appointments (lameness evaluations, prepurchase evaluations, etc), emergencies, or general anaesthesia. Interns may also perform small animal consultations, with support as needed. The hospital sees an average of 1-2 primary opinion and referral emergencies per day in addition to scheduled appointments. WestVETS has a busy and varied caseload, including orthopaedic/sport medicine, lacerations, colics, pneumonias, diarrhoeas, neonates, and ophthalmology cases. The hospital also sees a number of small ruminant and camelid cases.

ALBANY CREEK, MORETON BAY REGION - SMALL ANIMAL New Position
Small Animal Veterinarian at privately owned clinic - Rare vacancy!
We are thoroughly excited to be putting this ad up as it’s rare that we have an available spot on our team! We are searching for the right vet for our established, thriving medium-sized clinic – Petmania Vets.
About the role:
Firstly, you’ll need to be a qualified, experienced, Queensland-registered veterinarian. I know that would seem obvious, but according to the number of bartenders and janitors we have already had apply for the role, apparently, it’s not. You’ll be experienced in Small Animal sole charge work, although you’ll also have knowledgeable, supportive vets and nurses to brainstorm with much of the time as well.
The roster for the role is currently three days a week, however we’re open to making the position full-time for a great candidate. You’ll also join us for one of our half-day Saturdays, every four weeks.
The CPD leave allowance is one week per year, pro rata, plus protected training time such as frequent Lunch n Learns on topics of the team’s choosing. Speaking of protected time, we currently allocate three x 30-minute blocks every shift for you to do histories and callbacks, as well as Priority blocks to ensure you’re not double-booked when the inevitable cat fight abscess or emesis-induction Labrador arrives.
About the pay:
It sounds cliché but it’s the reality – the salary for this role depends on experience and additional superpowers. To give you an idea though, it starts at $100,000 plus superannuation, full-time pro rata, if you are happy with general consultations and the occasional surgery/dental/procedure. We’d love to pay you up to $130,000 plus superannuation full-time pro rata, though, if you bring additional exceptional skills and wisdom. Tell us where your value lies, and we’ll foster that with you.
About the clinic:
It’s purple. Hooo boy there’s a lot of purple here! That’s the first thing you’ll spot. Once you get past that though, you’ll notice that it’s cleverly laid out. The sunlit, open-plan reception, four consulting rooms, offices and well-stocked pharmacy flows down the hallway to the vast treatment area, glass-enclosed vet lounge, X-ray suite and laboratory. The dog ward, ultrasound suite, isolation ward, sterile theatre, cat ward and crew room sit at the other end, so each function of the clinic runs independently, efficiently (and quietly).
Please click here to see photos!
Petmania Vets do 30-minute general appointments, or extended consultations, depending on the needs of the patient. Our range of services includes acupuncture, traditional Chinese herbal medicine, cold laser and orthopaedic surgeries, as well as specialist imaging, diagnostics and dentistry from our visiting specialists.
Team members enjoy reserved on-site parking, huge discounts for their own pets, catered monthly team meetings, birthday cakes and a fully stocked snack station.
About the people:
Your colleagues are five vets (three FTE), five qualified and experienced nurses/technicians, five receptionists, and an impossibly cheery Practice Manager. Having dedicated receptionists means our nurses can be fully utilised for their individual brilliance in hospital patient care, Team Consulting with you, and solo Nurse Consults.
Petmania Vets has a Mental Health First Aid Officer, and we are genuinely committed to making work a place that you want to come to, as well as helping you to enjoy a work-life balance - whatever that looks like for you. We award a Team Member of the Month at every team meeting - which is nominated by their peers with a blurb about why they’re so valued - and celebrate them with a choice of gift vouchers. As a privately-owned company, with management right here in the clinic, we can respond promptly to both opportunities and issues. We are agile in our adoption of new technologies and products, to ensure consistent growth and job satisfaction.
What next?
We’re not used to recruiting, which is a humble brag, but also an admission that we may have missed some vital information in this ad. The best way to ensure you have all the important information is to contact me, Jo McDonald, now – let’s chat! Send through your resume to jo@petmaniavets.com.au or just give me a call on 07 3264 6700.
I understand it’s a very small industry, so I can conduct interviews for this position off-site if you’d prefer. Or, I welcome you to have a coffee and tour the clinic to see how we work.
