These fears were quickly pushed aside as the entire team welcomed me with open arms, encouraging and supporting me to further my knowledge and challenge myself on a daily basis. The hospital is staffed by an outstanding team of emergency veterinarians and nurses, working alongside specialists in internal medicine, emergency and critical care, and surgery.

The centre is very well equipped with imaging (Siemens 16-slice CT, digital radiography, digital subtraction fluoroscopy, Phillips affinity and POC ultrasound machines, regular off-site access to 3T MRI imaging), critical care (6 new Menios oxygen cages, new Getinge Servo-u ventilator and newly created critical care suite), laboratory (Radiometer blood-gas machine, IDEXX Procyte haematology, Catalyst biochemistry and coagulation machines) and other equipment such as Olympus endoscopy and advanced anaesthetic monitoring.

Emergency & Critical Care Nurse

The Centre for Animal Referral & Emergency (CARE) is looking for an enthusiastic and conscientious nurse to become part of a dynamic, progressive team of nurses and veterinarians in a high-volume emergency and critical care environment.

About CARE

CARE is a busy, privately-owned, multi-specialist veterinary hospital located in Collingwood, on the fringe of the Melbourne CBD. It evolved from an ardent intention to provide the highest standards of patient care in a cooperative and cohesive, team-oriented environment that respects, supports and encourages the personal balance and professional development of its staff. The Position

The Emergency & Critical Care department at CARE enjoys a consistently busy caseload that encompasses an interesting and broad range of presentations. In this position, you will work with a dedicated and cohesive team of experienced nurses in caring for the cases presenting to, and hospitalised within, the Emergency & Critical Care department. It involves many aspects including: triage, in-patient care, assistance with anaesthesia and procedures, laboratory procedures, discussion of patient progress with owners and occasional reception duties.

The nature of emergency and critical care mandates continuous care and necessarily, this position involves a combination of day, evening, overnight and weekend shifts. The distribution of these shifts within the roster is carefully supervised by highly experienced and understanding nursing managers, who also participate in the roster.

The staff of CARE take pride in the benefits of interdepartmental cooperation in case management.   ICU cases frequently benefit from the contributions of multiple specialist disciplines, as well as the support and guidance of a board-certified emergency and critical care specialist. This collaboration provides an excellent opportunity for learning and case follow-up. Beyond this, continuing education is encouraged through regular tutorials and daily rounds that are provided for the benefit of all staff, including the dedicated teams of Emergency and Critical Care veterinary and nursing interns.

Certificate IV in nursing (or equivalent qualification) is a prerequisite foundation. Nursing experience in a multi-specialist or emergency and critical care facility is considered beneficial, but is not critical and is readily overshadowed by enthusiasm and a friendly, team-oriented personality.

While shift patterns are variable, on the above basis a permanent full-time ECC nurse can expect to achieve annual remuneration in the range of $78-$90k plus superannuation (or pro rata part time).

Bayside Animal Medical Centre, Brighton (posted 7th June)

Bayside Animal Medical Centre

Bayside, Brighton – Full-time Vet Nurse

[All the other ads seem to have a LOT of fluff to read through, so we thought we’d simplify things for you: either to tick (hopefully) or cross us off your list - hope this helps!] :

Bayside Animal Medical Centre requires the services of another veterinary nurse to help complement our staff of 5 vets, 5 nurses & receptionist.

The Location:  Situated in the sunny, tree-filled suburb of Brighton, very close to the beach, and 50 metres away from a couple of trendy coffee shops and an organic supermarket & deli (great for your lunch break).

The Clients:  We’re surrounded by clients who LOVE their pets and let us do whatever we feel is necessary to help keep them healthy.

The Clinic:  Very well equipped like everyone else (Digital radiography, in-house serology, touch-screen ultrasound, IM3 dental equip & digital dental radiography, separate procedures room and sterile operating theatre, multimodal anaesthetic monitors, ECG, surgical cautery, brand-new Surgivet anaesthetic machines, VIN subscription etc etc etc).  Separate cat & dog waiting areas, two consult rooms.

The Staff:  Our vets & nursing staff are super-friendly & work very well together.  We’ve had minimal team changes over the years – we just keep adding.

The Role:  Really, we just want a nice person that feels comfortable and confident talking to people, that is a competent all-round vet nurse, and knows how to work in a team.  Working hours are flexible, and your salary (paid well above award rates) wholly negotiable based on your level of experience and how many hours you want to commit.  We understand work-life balance.  We don’t do after hours – we think the Emergency Centres do a better job for our clients.  4 weeks paid leave per year.

Starting date:  mid to late August

Spy on us:  You’re welcome to call and speak to any staff member to get a feel for the kind of people (or the ‘boss’) you’ll be working with. See our contact details below.

If the position interests you, email your resume to Melissa at baysideanimalmedicalcentre@gmail.com  or call to get more info (03) 9592 4700

Thanks for giving us your consideration in this overcrowded market!

The Berwick Village Vet, Berwick SE Melbourne (posted 4th June)

The Berwick Village Vet Logo

Experienced Veterinary Nurse - Full time or Part time

We have been lucky enough to get another vet, another vet who has worked with us for years as a locum, and knows and loves the clinic and what it stands for. We found a Unicorn!

But we now need a nurse to fill in the extra hours. Are you that nurse? We want a nurse who really enjoys being a nurse who approaches their day with positivity of someone who enjoys their work. We have expanded Vet hours nicely to absorb the effects of Covid, and although we have busy days, some of them very busy, we have avoided the manic stress other clinics are enduring. We double book long consults, and feel scheduling can make or break a day.

So what do we need from you? We would like a nurse with at least 2 years experience. Cert IV is an advantage, but experience will trump a cert IV. Because we're a small clinic, there are times where you have to use your own initiative to crack on with the work at hand. At other times you can draw on the wealth of knowledge we have here. If you are a senior nurse, we'd love you to help bring through any staff member who needs a little encouragement and training. We have a great team of nurses with experience, and who come from varying backgrounds.

Your role will be mixed with some surgical nursing involving taking and running bloods, placing and maintaining iv catheters and fluids, monitoring anaesthetics, and running the surgery for the day. There is also the reception and phone role. We have a really great clientele who are loyal and appreciate our friendly approach. The last role is to consult with the Vet. The vets use the nurses extensively for restraint and administering treatments, organising medications, and client communication.

So in summary we require:

WANTED: Vet Nurse, Experienced, Part Time

Looking for a change? Looking for a team which puts patients, clients and our wonderful team at the centre of what they do? Well, you are in luck! Our team is looking for an experienced nurse to help us care for our lovely clients and patients.

We are a non-corporate small animal Vet Hospital in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, and one of the oldest clinics in Melbourne (we began caring for local pets 93 years ago!). Although we are one of the oldest clinics, we are certainly not outdated in our patient care, having two enthusiastic practice owners who ensure that we strive to provide optimum care and standards to our clients and patients.

Role summary:

We are a 3 vet small animal hospital, seeing mainly dogs and cats, but also occasional exotics and wildlife. We strive to provide optimum care and standards to the small animal patients and clientele that we service. We are proud of the care we offer, and have a large focus on wellness preventative care.

We are very team focussed, and you will need the ability to work well within the team so that we can deliver the best outcomes to our patients and clients. We have weekly Team Meeting and Training sessions, also working regularly with the Lincoln Institute, allowing us to optimise our patient care, client programs, better ourselves and improve our wonderful team. There are frequent cakes for team birthdays, anniversaries or other events, and we even give you an extra RDO each year in the month of your birthday!

We have high standards amongst everyone in the team and to assist you in this there are designated duty checklists and many hospital standards-of-care for patients and clients. Attention to detail in completing all designated tasks is expected. If you have pride in your personal standards and your quality of care, then you are just the sort of person we seek!

We are keen in the use of modern technology, using both Ezyvet and Smartflow, allowing us to start the transition towards becoming paper-free. We use a lot of modern technology in our client communication, education, and in-house patient care.
