Centre for Animal Referral & Emergency, Collingwood, Melbourne (posted 21st August)
Small Animal Surgery Vet Nurse
- Permanent full-time
- Generous remuneration package commensurate with skills and experience
- Penalty rates apply for overtime and any after-hours work
- Well-equipped hospital with modern facilities
- Industry-leading team based in the vibrant heart of Melbourne
The Centre for Animal Referral & Emergency (CARE) is looking for an enthusiastic and conscientious nurse to become part of a dynamic, progressive team of nurses and surgeons within the Surgery Department.
CARE is a busy, well-equipped, multi-specialist veterinary hospital located in Collingwood, on the fringe of the Melbourne CBD. It evolved from an ardent intention to provide the highest standards of patient care in a cooperative and cohesive, team-oriented environment that respects, supports and encourages the personal balance and professional development of its staff. This focus has fostered the development of excellent relationships within our team, and with our referring veterinarians and clients. The hospital is staffed by an outstanding team of emergency veterinarians and nurses, working alongside specialists in internal medicine, emergency and critical care, and surgery.
The Surgery Department at CARE is staffed by two specialist surgeons, a registrar and a resident, supported by a dedicated and cohesive team of experienced nurses and interns. The department enjoys a consistent and varied caseload, operating at the highest level across the spectrum of soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics and neurosurgery. The surgical team takes pride in the standard of patient care, and case outcomes, rather than caseload and is strongly focused on evidence-based practice and a cooperative, collegiate, and multidisciplinary approach to ensure best practice.
This role involves responsibility for the care of hospitalised patients of the surgery department, as well as assistance with their anaesthetic management, specialised diagnostic tests, preparation for surgery and theatre nursing. In addition, there is a need for regular, reliable, and detailed communication within the department, across departments of the hospital, and with clients and referring veterinarians.
The position is preferably full-time, but with an emphasis on finding the right person rather than the specific terms. It is important that the successful applicant embraces our core values, integrates well, and values the pursuit of excellence in client and patient care. They will be experienced, motivated, conscientious, and effective in their written and verbal communication with clients, referring veterinarians and other hospital staff.
About You
The ideal candidate is professional, genuine and personable, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills. An ability to adapt to changing circumstances and manage a variety of challenges that you may be presented with would be an advantage.
Certificate IV in nursing (or equivalent qualification) is a prerequisite foundation. Nursing experience in a multi-specialist facility is considered beneficial but is not critical and is readily overshadowed by genuine enthusiasm and a friendly, team-oriented personality.
Life at CARE
The successful candidate will enjoy:
- Membership of a friendly, supportive, and highly productive team of nurses and veterinarians within the Surgery Department, and more broadly, within CARE
- Generous remuneration
- Exposure to an exciting and varied caseload in an environment committed to achieving the best patient outcomes with the resources and equipment to achieve them
- Immersion in a workplace culture that encourages, values, and makes provision for continuing professional development
- Relocation assistance and the potential for Visa sponsorship for international candidates
- A workplace that is focused on employee wellbeing, professional satisfaction, and the sustainability of veterinary work
- Access to our Employee Assistance Program (EAP), providing free and confidential counselling on issues of work, money, family, health, and everything in between
- Great staff amenities which include complimentary snacks, beverages, espresso coffee, and fresh fruit delivered weekly
- Generous discounts on a range of hospital products and services
- An easy commute to work, owing to our close proximity to multimodal public transport and major arterial freeways. Secure off-street staff car parking is available
- A centrally located workplace in one of Melbourne's most exciting lifestyle precincts

ADVANCED VETCARE - KENSINGTON
EXPERIENCED ECC NURSES REQUIRED.
Full Time and Part Time positions
Advanced Vetcare is a veterinary referral centre with 24-hour emergency and critical care support.
We are a purpose-built facility in central Melbourne and have a new centre opening in the Eastern Suburbs in October. We currently house specialist small animal surgery, internal medicine, oncology, and emergency services. In addition, we operate the Geelong Animal Emergency Centre.
Applications are invited from professional and experienced nurses to join our Emergency and Critical Care department. We are a busy, progressive, and friendly centre that aims to provide a challenging work environment while offering committed care to our patients and clients. These roles could in time be shared with our other centre in Kew.
We have exceptional teams who support and care for each other. We offer continued education opportunities, with financial contribution as well as in-clinic training seminars.
We are a fully equipped emergency hospital, with the added benefits of working alongside our specialists, which allows us to offer the best and most complete care to our patients, as well as offering diversity and intrigue to our caseload.
The successful candidates will have the ability to work closely within a team, but also efficiently and independently in a challenging, unpredictable environment. This position will encompass all facets of speciality and emergency nursing, including outstanding client and inter-departmental communication.
We are seeking reliable and driven nurses who can contribute to improving our clinics while being open to learning new techniques.
Please note this is not a training position and a minimum of one-year emergency or busy general practice experience is desired. The successful completion of Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, Bachelor degree or overseas equivalent is preferred. An attractive salary will be offered, commensurate with experience. These roles have the potential to contribute across all shifts rostered in the emergency department.
Why choose us:
- Competitive remuneration based on experience
- 4 weeks of Annual Leave
- Access to the SAFERVETS program
- Access to Vetbloom Learning Platform
- Access to an Employee Assistance Program to support mental health and well-being

Our team is our most important asset, and our partners work on the floor as part of the AVC team. We aim to provide the highest level of service to our patients, our clients, and our referring vets in a friendly, rewarding environment.
