GP VETERINARY NURSES (Full time, part time)

JCUVet is the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for James Cook University, providing clinical teaching to veterinary students in our small animal General Practice and Referral Hospital. Our GP is unique in that it is part of the teaching hospital and has access to a large range of resources and equipment.

We seek to appoint two experienced and enthusiastic full time permanent Veterinary Nurses to provide nursing support to our team of GP Veterinarians and contribute to the development of initiatives such as environmental enrichment practices and nursing Clinics (e.g., weight management, arthritis management, puppy socialization). A full time veterinary nurse can either work four longer days per week or five days per week.

Due to workflow, our preference is to appointment two full time veterinary nurses, however we can alternatively consider the appointment of part time veterinary nurses provided that such individuals are able to work no less than three full days per week on an ongoing basis. Hours will either be 7.30am – 6.00pm or 8.00am – 6.30pm or thereabouts.

Imagine being co-located with an animal teaching hospital, surrounded by experienced veterinary clinicians, visiting specialists, a radiographer and likeminded nurses who practice at advanced levels and use contemporary clinical techniques and modern equipment.

We encourage our nurses to pursue their professional interests such as shadow placements to hone their clinical skills in surgery, medicine, anaesthesia, or critical care. We are happy to progress you through to referral disciplines in due course as part of your career development.

You will be supported and assisted by Trainee Nurses undergoing a structured Trainee Nurse program guided by our Nurse Educator, and Animal Nursing Assistants. Only from time to time you might briefly relieve our veterinary receptionists, leaving you more time to focus on what you love best – clinical practice.

In addition to the above, we offer you:

If you hold a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing with recent GP nursing experience, or alternatively have extensive contemporary GP nursing experience (with no Cert IV), then this role will excite you. We would also be happy to have you visit and observe our practice if you would like, or if you are not located in Townsville we could conduct a guided video tour with you.

Experienced Veterinary Nurse - Part Time or Casual

At AWLQ, we’re committed to creating a brighter future for animals in need and keeping pets and people together by providing lifesaving support and resources to people in need with companion animals.

About the role

Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is currently looking for a part time or casual Veterinary Nurse to join our Gold Coast Animal Rehoming Centre!

You will be joining a small team who work hard but always have time for a laugh. There aren’t many quiet days due to the high number of animals needing AWLQ’s help, but on the flip side there’s no weekend work and very little after-hours.

The whole Rehoming Centre works as a team and you will work one-on-one with your vet to facilitate the efficient flow of animals through the clinic so they can go on to find their furever homes. Your “clients” are the amazing foster carers who take our animals into their homes to provide treatment and a loving home environment while they recover from illness or wait for surgery.

You will liaise with multiple staff, departments and foster carers on a daily basis so strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to multi-task are a must. You will have excellent time management and will complete your tasks with a strong attention to detail. You will be a team player and able to be flexible to the changing needs each work day presents.

Key Responsibilities

What are the minimum requirements for this position?

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Who are we?

Founded in 1959, AWLQ has become a trusted leader in animal welfare. We provide a safe haven and second chance for close to 10,000 stray and homeless animals every year. To each one of these animals we welcome through our doors, a promise is made – to never euthanise a healthy, sociable, or treatable animal in our care. We work tirelessly every day to maintain this promise.

In addition to our shelter work, we are committed to keeping pets and people together by providing lifesaving support and resources to people in need with companion animals. We are known for our grassroots and innovative community-based animal welfare work including our community vet clinics, Getting to Zero, Golden Hearts Seniors’ Support Program and the National Desexing Network.

Why should you join us?

At AWLQ we offer competitive pay and benefits, including access to an independent Employee Assistance Program, retail discounts, vet discounts. Most importantly, every day you’ll play an instrumental role in our lifesaving work.

Our mission is to unleash the potential in every team, and we know that teams perform best when they have passion. We are committed to building a culture where everyone has the opportunity to do meaningful work and is recognised for their efforts.

Equity

Diversity and inclusion are the principles guiding how we build our teams, cultivate our leaders and build a culture of belonging where differences are valued.

About Us

AWLQ is one of Queensland’s most dynamic and best-loved charities. Our organisation is the leader in the zero euthanasia movement nationally and is considered a national leader in animal welfare. AWLQ locally provides a safe haven for close to 10,000 stray and homeless animals each year, while also assisting other communities in saving homeless animals.
