We are motivated to keep our vets keen and help them keep up with the latest CPD and equipment, including high-quality dental equipment, multiple x-ray units including a DR, ultrasound, a videoscope, as well as a portable endoscope. We now have a dedicated equine wing, to bring all this together in a modern functional setting.
We are happy to be flexible with working hours and to discuss your preferences from part-time to full-time, so let us know what would work best for you. After hours is optional with financial remuneration and an early finish as a bonus for weekends worked if you choose to participate.
Alongside a generous salary (depending on experience, we will also provide you with a vehicle and a mobile phone. Both positions could suit equally experienced or new vet graduates.

Join a growing emergency service for the Kāpiti Coast and surrounding region
Kapiti Emergency Vets is looking for capable, compassionate veterinarians to join our growing after-hours emergency team.
We are a new emergency veterinary service based out of the incredible new purpose-built Vets on Riverbank facility in Ōtaki. KEV was established to provide much-needed after-hours veterinary care for the Kāpiti Coast, Horowhenua and surrounding region, helping local pets and their people access urgent care closer to home.
We are looking for vets who may be interested in covering a regular weeknight shift, along with some weekend day and overnight shifts. There is flexibility around hours and shift patterns depending on what you are looking for, so whether you are after a regular part-time role, additional ECC experience, or a mix of shifts around other work, we would love to chat.
About the role
This role involves providing after-hours emergency and urgent care for companion animal patients in a modern, well-equipped clinic. You'll see a varied caseload and play an important role in supporting local pets, clients, and referring clinics when urgent care is needed most.
You will be working with a supportive and growing team who bring a wealth of emergency and critical care knowledge. While you will need to be comfortable managing urgent cases, you will not be working in isolation without support. We are building a team culture where vets can learn from each other, share knowledge, and continue growing their ECC skills in a practical, supportive environment.
Cases may include anything from acute illness, trauma, toxicity, respiratory distress, blocked cats, GDVs, seizures, collapse, wounds, pain management, end-of-life care, and overnight hospital care. No two shifts are quite the same, which is part of what makes emergency work so rewarding.

Emergency experience would be an advantage, but it is not essential if you have a good foundation in general practice, sound clinical judgement, and a willingness to learn.
You will need to be:
- A qualified veterinarian registered, or eligible for registration, with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand
- Confident managing companion animal cases in an after-hours environment
- Comfortable communicating clearly and kindly with clients during stressful situations
- Able to work collaboratively with nurses, support staff, referring clinics, and other vets
- Practical, calm, and patient-focused
- Interested in developing or extending your ECC skills

This is a full-time position within the VTH in our Community Practice service. The Community Practice is our primary care service that hosts a mandatory multi-week rotation in wellness, general, and preventive care. The majority of the caseload is canine and feline, but interest in small mammals is encouraged.
The successful candidate must possess a strong commitment to excellence in patient care, service to clients, and clinical teaching, as well as strong leadership and communications skills. This is a clinical role with an emphasis on clinical instruction and patient care in the hospital. Time not assigned to clinical instruction and patient care on clinical rotations will be devoted to classroom / laboratory teaching, scholarship, and service.
The salary grade for this role is Practicing/Senior Practicing Veterinarian, with a salary ranging from $92,063 - $152,717 (NZD). Job Opportunity:
We are seeking a veterinarian with 2+ years' experience to join our team, on a part-time basis (happy to consider casual applicants too).
Ideally you will be available to work every Wednesday, but our roster can be flexible to accommodate you as an individual, alongside clinic needs.
The role requires that you:
- Are comfortable with all aspects of small animal GP. Some sole charge will be required.
- Build relationships and deliver high customer service standards to our base of loyal clients.
- Enjoy and take pride in delivering a high standard of patient care.

Our caseload is varied and interesting. We routinely perform TPLOs and TTAs, have veterinarians with special interests in cardiology, diagnostic imaging, medicine, oncology, ophthalmology, dermatology and exotics, operate a rehabilitation service led by our Head Nurse, and provide veterinary care for the Northland Police Dog Section. We also have convenient access to CT and MRI imaging at an excellent human radiology facility less than one kilometre from the clinic.
We're a friendly, collaborative team who genuinely enjoy working together and discussing cases. We also have excellent relationships with referral specialists in Auckland. CPD is highly encouraged and supported and there is room to develop special interests, if desired. We value work-life balance and strive to maintain a fair, sustainable roster. Afterhours is currently on a 1 in 10 roster.
