SOUTHLAND - OTAUTAU - MIXED PRACTICE

Veterinary Surgeon – Mixed Practice

Come and join our friendly mixed practice and enjoy a varied and interesting caseload in a community that values and appreciates our knowledge and skills.  We are an established practice aiming to provide friendly and compassionate care for all of our patients and loyal client base.

The Location
Otautau is a rural town surrounded by the most stunning coastlines and mountains alike.  We have an abundance of outdoor and indoor sporting opportunities, good local shopping and plenty of popular eateries nearby.

Southland is the most cost-effective place to live in New Zealand and offers a multitude of job opportunities for partners making the move with you.  Schools and medical resources are of a high standard making it an ideal location for individuals, couples and families alike.

About Us
Otautau Vets Ltd has provided professional and affordable veterinary care to the Western Southland region for over 20 years. We are an independent practice committed to providing a wide range of services, sound advice and a high level of veterinary care.

We are a genuine mixed practice with around 75% of our work large animal, predominantly Dairy, and 25% Companion animal.  Our varied caseload allows for special interests to be developed and for individuals to grow and expand the services we provide.  Southland is home to some of the most progressive and innovative farmers who give us the opportunity for involvement in their business on a more intensive basis.  As a result, we have vets trained in InCalf, Healthy Hoof and with interests in Dairy Nutrition and Equine Dentistry.

Please click here to see photos! photos

With our nearest companion animal referral centre in Christchurch, there is ample opportunity for developing interests in both companion animal medicine and surgery. We also utilise telemedicine referrals where necessary to provide the best medical and surgical options for our patients.

About the Role
Our preference would be for a full-time veterinary surgeon, but have scope to accommodate a part-time role for the right candidate.

We are open 8.30am-5.30pm, with no weekend clinics and we strive for a 1-in-6 OOH roster or better throughout the year, apart from 10-12 weeks in Spring where we have two Vets on-call.  We have a qualified Veterinary Nurse on-call over the weekend to assist with emergencies and in-patient care during the busier Spring period.

Due to the seasonal nature of our large animal work, there is a huge variation in the weighting of clinical work, but we aim to maintain variation whilst also accommodating individual skills and strengths. We also have Large Animal Technicians to ease the burden of the routine work.

There are always opportunities to learn new skills and with our great team of Vets, someone is always happy to lend a hand if more hands, more experience or just some friendly encouragement is required.

A healthy work-life balance is important to us all and we aim to ensure that everyone gets their allocated breaks and finishes on time.

About You
Ultimately, we are looking for the right candidate to fit in with our team. Qualifications are obviously essential, but we are happy to work with differing levels of experience to ensure that you are confident in your role.  The qualities that are particularly important to us are:

WHANGAMATA/WAIHI, COROMANDEL - MIXED

We are looking for a Mixed Animal Veterinarian to work in our progressive private practice in the idyllic Coromandel.

You will work alongside four other vets, to provide the excellent standard of care we are known for, to both of our companion and production animal clients.

We pride ourselves on taking care of our team and pay well above industry average. CPD is actively encouraged and as such, there is generous CPD support for an employee with a drive to accelerate their career development.

Our facilities and equipment are modern, and we are able to provide a wide range of services to our clients, despite our semi-rural location.

A recently completed extension to the clinic in Whangamata, and a near-completed renovation to our staff break/kitchen areas means you will be working in a comfortable environment.

We are open to either a full or part-time applicant and are happy to negotiate a working week that allows you the work/life balance you are after. Our area is renowned for its beautiful Coromandel beaches, host of outdoor activities (surfing, mountain-biking, water sport, golf, hunting, fishing, yoga) and busy café/food scene.

There is an expectation of after-hours roster participation, of one in four. Our after-hours system has been carefully designed, so that all calls are screened by a triage nurse first, meaning you will only ever receive calls from them, or from our production animal clients.

Additionally, for a weekend worked on-call, the following Monday is provided as a day-in-lieu, and each call-out attended earns you a generous payment, on top of your day-in-lieu. Companion animal callouts after 9pm are forwarded to nearby emergency centres, to minimise night-time disruptions.

The successful applicant may choose to base themselves in either Whangamata or Waihi, though all our companion animal hospitalisation occurs at our Whangamata branch.

Whangamata is located within easy driving distance of Tauranga (1h15min), Hamilton (1h40min) and Auckland (2h).

Ideally, you will have at least two years of experience, though a new/recent graduate with the right attitude will also be considered.

If you are interested in the role, please send an email, along with your CV and references to brandy@corovets.co.nz

Applications will be considered until the successful candidate has been found.

We are a privately owned business operating out of a purpose-built rural clinic in Geraldine. This provides a dynamic work environment to achieve best practice for our clients.

Gorgeous Geraldine is a beautiful town in central South Canterbury, in the South Island of New Zealand. We are one hour from good ski fields and lakes for water skiing, the Rangitata is an ideal river for adventure sport training, and we are just one and a half hours to Christchurch and an international airport.
