Concord Veterinary Hospital, North Strathfield, Inner West Sydney (posted 23rd January)
Concord Veterinary Hospital is on the lookout for a new Veterinary Nurse to join our 6 veterinarian, 12 veterinary nurse, one hospital manager and one assistant manager team (this includes a mix of full time, part time, and casual weekend vet students). We are a busy, well-established, privately owned small animal veterinary hospital in Sydney’s Inner West.
Since our inception in 2013, we have grown from just a baby team of three vets and three nurses, through to a team of over 20 team members. We are now on the lookout for our next super nurse – and all are welcome to apply. Whilst a Cert 4 qualification is ideal, we firmly believe that a positive attitude and great work ethic is far more important, so those studying or near the end of their studies are welcome to apply.
The position involves a mixture of predominantly private practice work, but also via our longstanding affiliation with the Cat Protection Society of NSW – there is a component of shelter medicine and surgery. A comprehensive Cat Protection Society wing of the hospital runs concurrently alongside the private clinic, giving us great opportunities to perform procedures including many small animal clinics do not have the opportunity to perform. This, combined with our high private practice case load, gives us a unique exposure to both medical and surgical cases.
As important to us as attitude and work ethic, team culture is super important to us. We hire based heavily on how you will fit into our team; after all, we spend more time together than we do with our family and friends.
What we can offer you:
- No rostered weekends
- Weekday Clinic hours: 8am – 6pm
- Above award salary – initially commensurate with experience and reviewed regularly
- We are a very busy practice with a high caseload – so you will be working in a fast-paced environment with an abundance of medical and surgical cases, alongside great nurses and talented vets
- Continuing professional education is actively encouraged and fully financially supported if mutually beneficial
- A long history and strong alliance with the Cat Protection Society of NSW – giving a great mix of private practice and shelter medicine
- A workplace with a seriously twisted sense of humour…
- Let’s be honest – there are some average parts of a veterinary nursing role (answering phones, reception duties and cleaning out cages/runs when patients are discharged) – however we want our nurses to do the fun stuff too:
- Blood collection
- Intravenous canula placement
- Premedicating, sedating and inducing anaesthesia including intubation (with full veterinarian support)
- Taking radiographs
- Dentistry: dental radiographs, scaling and polishing
- Blood collection
We are immensely proud that at Concord Veterinary Hospital – we do not have an us vs. them attitude between the veterinarians and the veterinary nurses. We are a team, and we actively rely on you as our eyes and ears for the benefit of our patients. We will listen to you and consider your ideas and opinions with respect.
What our ideal candidate might look like:
- High emotional intelligence
- Excellent work ethic
- A passion for animal welfare
- The ability to work in a busy environment and adapt between different roles as the roster dictates
- Be aligned with our mission statement – to provide personalised, compassionate, and consistent veterinary care to all of our patients – be they private patients or via our rescue and shelter channels
- A great sense of humour, not taking yourself too seriously
- Recently qualified or soon to be completed Certificate IV in veterinary nursing are actively encouraged to apply. We do not need you to have multiple years of experience – all we ask is that you have an excellent work ethic, willing to learn and are passionate about what you do.
Concord Veterinary Hospital has three consulting rooms, two pharmacy/laboratories, IDEXX Procyte, Catalyst and Sedivue in house pathology machines, two dedicated surgical suites, dedicated surgical prep room and treatment/hospital room with a wet table for dentistry. We are equipped with two IM3 Dental machines, two IM3 dental radiography systems, entire suite of dental equipment, digital x-ray (DR), brand new ultrasound machine, multiple anaesthetic machines, Valley Lab Ligasure system, IV fluid pumps and syringe drivers, and high-quality anaesthetic monitoring equipment that monitors pressure monitoring, ETCO2, SPO2, HR, RR and temperature with every anaesthetic machine. We also have blood pressure machines, blood transfusion equipment and ophthalmic equipment including Tonovet and Voroteks.
Please send your CV and cover letter to Attn: Dr David Hughes and Dr Rebecca Brady at: concordvets@concordvets.com.au

Well, read on. I’m Michelle, and I am the Owner of Lithgow Veterinary Hospital – a small animal clinic nestled at the base of the breathtaking Blue Mountains.

And I still love what I do!
Now, I'm seeking a new team member to join our already fabulous crew.
