SORELL, NORTH EAST OF HOBART - SMALL ANIMAL New Position

We are looking for the right person to join our team!

The veterinary industry is a challenging environment to work in, and support from your employer and team members is vital in this environment. That is what we offer. Proactive management to ensure the day runs as smoothly as possible, and support from the rest of the team.

We truly value our staff. We are looking for someone that is laid back but has a good work ethic and is a team player. We expect high standards of patient care and look to have fun at work whilst maintaining our professional focus.

Our hours of operation are 8:00am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday and 9:00am to 12pm on a Saturday. Saturday shift rotation is 1-in-4. We are closed on Sundays and public holidays. There are no after hours duties. We are fortunate to have a local after hours emergency hospital to which we can refer overnight patients.

We are a busy, general small animal practice seeing 99% dogs and cats. Our head vet and practice owner, Nathan, is partial to pet goats and sheep and they occasionally enter the clinic to the delight of the locals! As the practice and the team grows, we may start to offer large animal services.

In Tasmania we do not have the luxury of being able to refer cases to specialist practices easily. We have a travelling surgeon to do orthopaedic or complex soft tissue surgeries. The upside of this is that we are forced to “keep it in-house”. With a good textbook, a chat with a colleague or specialist and most importantly, confidence and team support, you will flourish with more advanced procedures beyond the basic procedures. Nathan, head vet and practice owner has a special interest in dentistry and performs a variety of advanced and complex dental procedures and some maxillofacial surgery.

We are very well equipped with the usual toys (DR, ultrasound, in-house pathology), including dental radiology, electrocautery and suction unit, tonopen and fibreoptic rhino and otoscopes.

The Clarence municipality is the fastest growing area in Tasmania. It is in a great location with easy access to Hobart and is the gateway to the East Coast and Tasman peninsula.

What we are looking for:

Skills and knowledge can be taught and learnt. Attitude and aptitude cannot. Kind, open, honest, fun. It is these traits that we are in search of and that will allow you to flourish.

What this role offers:

Work life balance is very important to us. We very seldom have any staff member needing to stay back after closing time.
4 day work week
Daily schedule management is pre-planned and changed depending on the teams capacity each day.
We have vet team rounds every morning and early afternoon to provide a place and time to discuss cases and ask for or offer support where needed.
All vets rotate equally between shifts on surgery, dentals and consults.
Above award remuneration with a performance linked bonus scheme assessed and paid quarterly.

For our vets, that means less chasing, fewer repeated conversations and less of the administration that can easily take over a busy clinical day.

You have more time to examine patients, work through cases, perform procedures and make thoughtful clinical decisions knowing there's a team around you helping to keep everything else on track.

Experience in small animal general practice, with the confidence to manage medical and routine surgical cases.

A willingness to share your experience with our team including graduate vets through everyday case discussions, regular staff meetings and practical advice as things pop up in the day to contribute to ongoing practice improvements

SMITHTON, FAR NORTH-WEST COAST - LARGE ANIMAL/DAIRY

Veterinarian (Large Animal / Dairy) – Full-time

We're looking for a full-time Veterinarian with 3+ years' experience and a strong interest in dairy cattle. Whether you're keen to deepen your large animal skills, or you're an established dairy vet looking for a change of scenery and a clinic where your knowledge is valued, we'd love to hear from you.

We're a small but rapidly growing clinic based in Smithton, a rural farming town in the far north-west of Tasmania. You'll have rolling green hills on your doorstep, beaches 10–20 minutes away, and beautiful rainforests to explore on your days off. Smithton offers the essentials - shops, schools and day-to-day services - with Burnie less than an hour away for larger facilities including an airport with regular flights to Melbourne.

Our caseload is predominantly dairy (around 80%), with primarily spring calving herds from smaller family-run farms through to large corporate operations. The remaining work includes beef (around 15%) and a small mix of small ruminants, equine, and the occasional dog vaccination (around 5%). We're fortunate to have many long-standing clients who are excellent to work with, and we're continuing to grow - so it's the perfect time to expand our veterinary team.

About the role

This role suits a vet who enjoys practical dairy work and building strong relationships with producers. You'll manage clinical cases on-farm, contribute to proactive and preventative herd health plans, and work closely with our team to deliver high-quality outcomes for clients.

Work Schedule and On-Call Duties:

Vet in the Valley is one of the only true mixed practice veterinary clinics in Southern Tasmania. We have a brand new small animal facility (Vet in the Valley Animal Hospital) with an expanding case load, opportunity for orthopaedics and surgery if that tickles your fancy. We have a strong preventative medicine focus across all species, but our small animal emergency opportunities are growing too. This clinic has all toys that a general practice might need and we are so excited to offer comprehensive services to all our clients.

Our equine clients vary from racehorse stables, the beloved back-yard pony to serious competition horses. We provide high quality equine services including gastroscopy, breeding, poor performance work ups and equine dentistry – with equine lameness, medicine, surgeons and dental specialists having our backs. We offer in house bloods and are the only clinic in southern Tasmania with the ability to hospitalise intensive equine cases.

Our farm animal work ranges from hobby goat producers, pet sheep, alpacas, stud cattle, and everything in-between. We have a growing commercial beef and sheep clientele base of which we are keen to expand our services to. We do most of the pregnancy testing and bull testing locally and this puts us in a great position to work with proactive producers to improve the productivity and profitability of their flock/herd. Preg testing one minute, disease investigation the next, whip out a calf, and vaccinate some dogs while your there.

The Role

We are looking for passionate Emergency Veterinarians to join our experienced team. Ideally 3+ years graduated with at least 1-2 years of ECC experience
Solid ECC foundational skills and the ability to manage a wide range of emergency cases
A Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (or equivalent)
Current or eligible registration with the Veterinary Surgeons Board
A collaborative, can-do attitude with strong communication and client management skills
A genuine passion for emergency and critical care and a commitment to patient-first medicine
Willing to join a roster with a maximum of 3 rostered overnights per month
