GOULBURN VALLEY, SHEPPARTON - MIXED OR SMALL ANIMAL - EXPERIENCED OR NEW GRAD New Graduates welcome

Small or Mixed Animal Vet Opportunity

GV Vets are looking for a full-time associate vet to join our team in Shepparton. If you're interested in joining a great group of people, in a family owned and operated clinic, please read on.

A few words to describe the values we consider important at GV Vets: Work-life balance, kindness, laughter, family, compassion, massages at work, exceptional service, professionalism, supportive, home baked treats in the tearoom.

We are proud to be Shepparton’s only locally owned and operated clinic, we are advertising for an additional vet for a couple of reasons, one being there's something in the water here and two of our legendary veterinary team have fallen pregnant.  The other being that we are renovating our cottage style clinic to grow and improve our hospital and consulting space.

Our renovation plans include a dedicated cat waiting area, a dental treatment room, a comfortable grieving/euthanasia space as well as an upstairs staff area with spaces for nursing mothers and maybe even a nap at lunchtime when required.  We tried to convince the boss to give us a rooftop bar, but we couldn't quite get it through on the final plans.

Please click here to see photos! photos

The ideal candidate has a primary focus on small animals and while mixed practice skills would be amazing (particularly cattle) they’re not necessary for you to apply.  Experienced vets and new graduates will both be considered for the role.  We’re looking for veterinary skills that come with a sense of humour and a great teamwork mindset. Our clinic is busy, but there’s plenty of support available with 9 vets (7 FTE) and 20 support staff, including 10 Cert IV Vet Nurses.  Our clinic has all the standard equipment expected of a modern general practice and many of the extra ‘toys’ to allow us to perform a comprehensive in-house work up with efficiency and offer best practice medicine: a combination of IDEXX & Abaxis in-house blood, coagulation, urinalysis & sedivue machines; imaging – portable ultrasound, digital touchscreen radiography, iM3 dental radiography; video otoscope & flexible endoscopes; TonoVet tonometer, electrocautery and separate surgery & dental / procedures rooms allowing dual anaesthetics each with dedicated patient warming and monitoring machines, large animal equipment including bull testing, pregnancy ultrasound, in-house milk culture and blood testing.

We aim for flexibility to find a roster that works for both you and the clinic, for example full time vets can work a four-day week with one regular weekday RDO or shorter shifts of five days a week.  We share the weekend and after-hours roster between everyone whilst also providing backup to support you for cases that fall outside of a particular vet's comfort zone. We strongly support continuing education and encourage vets to find and expand their areas of interest with further study, webinars, conferences and clinical practice.

Shepparton is a fantastic place to live, with all the shops, amenities and conveniences of a major regional centre with the luxury of space and country-feel farmland all around. We have a diverse, multicultural, proud and progressive community with fantastic schools and health services. There are many great sporting and cultural opportunities, superb restaurants and cafes, we are close to the river if you're into boating, camping or fishing, there’s great hiking trails and we are close to the ski fields if you like damaging your knees.  Going to Melbourne for a gig or footy match or festival is within 2 hours drive.

Comprehensive salary package on offer to the right candidate, including base salary, superannuation, continuing education, after-hours, registrations, memberships and bonus scheme.

BAIRNSDALE, EAST GIPPSLAND - FULL OR PART TIME MIXED New Graduates welcome

Yep, we are yet another mixed practice, looking for yet another mixed vet for yet another permanent or part time role to join our amazing, wonderful, beautiful team.

Who are we

Eastwood Vets – we are the new kid on the block down in Bairnsdale, Victoria. We are small, but we are mighty. We are growing rapidly and are looking for a vet, experienced or new grad, to join our team and help reduce everyone’s dreaded on-call hours.

We could tell you all the generic stuff about our clinic, and it’s all good stuff to know but its all the same (purpose built clinic, amazing qualified staff, modern equipment, compassionate quality vet care, yadda yadda yadda, you’ve heard it all before). What we’d rather do is tell you about what makes us different, better even, than all these other mixed practice job adds you’ve been browsing.

  1. Awesome café right next door – great coffee, good food, on tap.
  2. Slow cooker Fridays – Yep, that’s a sit down home cooked lunch every Friday. Ok, so sit down may not always be accurate, but the delicious slow cooked cuisine we enjoy every week makes it a little easier to take the Friday crazies.
  3. Family friendly – we all have, have had, or want to have young families and we want our families to be a priority. So, while we may not be able to offer “school hours” we are all about compromise so that the important stuff in your life gets the time it deserves
  4. Work life balance – we love hobbies, we encourage and support hobbies. We work to live, not the other way around and we hope that you are the same. We value doing a good job and we wont compromise on the quality of care that our patients and clients receive but we also value our own sanity and we will bend to make sure we all maintain our sanity and stella mental health.

Where are we

Eastwood, in Bairnsdale…… Google it….. The Travel Victoria website will tell you everything you need to know about this amazing region that you could learn to call home. There’s lots of stuff here….. all the things you need (hospitals, schools, shopping etc), plus there is lots of fun stuff too (snowfields, beaches, the iconic Gippsland Lakes, all within stone throw from the clinic).

Please click here to see photos! photos

Sensible stuff you probably do need to know:

Currently, we have a mixture of four vets working through the clinic, two full time. Position would involve 1 in 4 share in after hours. Pay and all other conditions are negotiable and above award, after hours contribution is not. Very comfortable accommodation is available for any interested applicant during after hours and initial commencement of employment while you fall in love with us.

Please email applications or call the clinic and speak to Meg.

An interest in equine work is a benefit. Our new and large purpose built hospital offers all the equipment and facilities to practice excellent quality veterinary medicine and surgery with friendly and supportive nursing staff. Digital x-ray, ultrasound with colour doppler, pulse oximetry, in-house laboratory and cytology, infusion pumps, oxygen generators and orthopaedic instrumentation are components of our practice. The practice has a busy medical and surgical caseload, mainly small animal (85%) and equine (10%), but does include avian and wildlife work in addition to the expected other species of cattle, sheep and pigs. The building now includes six consulting rooms and three operating theatres.

The equine facility consists of a large shed with undercover stabling, two horse crushes, equine scales, and a knock down and recovery room. Seven holding paddocks are available for equine work brought to the clinic. Equine specific x-ray, dental work with power float, artificial insemination during the stud season, and routine tendon ultrasounds are components of the practice. This is in addition to the expected colics, geldings, lameness work ups, stitch ups and laboratory blood work.

The clinic has nine full time and four part time nursing and support staff. The Practice is an Academic Associate Practice with the University of Melbourne, and in addition has veterinary students seeing practice from international veterinary schools as well as the other Universities in Australia.

So, if a rural mixed practice with a wonderfully varied caseload, and strong support staff appeals, then we would welcome your application. There is a strong emphasis on discussion of cases between colleagues at rounds each day, and we are a practice used to supporting new graduates as they embark on their careers. Bi-monthly webinars, practice membership of CVE, and each veterinarian provided with VIN membership gives all colleagues opportunities to continue to enhance their skills and knowledge. We expect veterinarians to embrace new challenges as experience dictates.

Plans of the building and discussion of our practice can be found at our website www.benetookvet.com.au

While we are no longer hosting vet students due to time constraints, our small clinic became the no.1 mixed practice of choice of vet students at Melbourne University on placement for many years. This speaks for the incredibly supportive and encouraging ethic that this clinic extends to its staff, and everyone associated with its work.

We encourage those considering this position to speak to current (and past) employees of the practice.

About You.

We are looking for either a full time or part time mixed animal practitioner to join our team of two vets.

Our ideal candidate will

You will be someone who is comfortable dealing with large animal clients as well as companion animal clients.

We would prefer an experienced vet, but new graduates are welcome to apply.

About The Job.

Our clinic workload is 30% large animal (primarily dairy and beef), and 70% companion animals. The mix worked can be varied to suit the strengths and preferences of the individual vet.  We work in with the strengths and weaknesses of our team members, trying as much as possible to line up work that suits the individual.

We are flexible with the number of days worked per week to fit in with the successful applicant’s needs. Pay is for hours worked, not a fixed salary. Pay rate is negotiable depending on experience.

The normal clinic hours are 9 – 5 Monday to Friday and 9 – 12 Saturday. Weekends and after hours are generally not very busy and are shared amongst the team. There is a generous after-hours fee sharing structure in place to compensate.

Continuing education is encouraged and there is a scheme for the clinic to contribute towards costs of approved courses. The clinic pays VSB fees and AVA membership.

About The Area.

Orbost is on the National Highway 1, 4.5 hours east of Melbourne and 4 hours south of Canberra. It is on the Snowy River Floodplain, a virtual island of super fertile farming land, surrounded by forest to the west, north and east, and the ocean to the south. The small coastal town of Marlo is 10 minutes drive away. For anyone who loves an outdoor lifestyle, it is an incredible place to live with an extraordinary range of landscapes close by.

Orbost is a welcoming community with an increasingly diverse population as this largely unknown gem is gradually discovered by tree – and sea changers. The town has its own hospital, high school, and several primary schools; it is well connected to Melbourne by coach / train services and has many sporting clubs and associations. The current ‘undiscovered’ status of the area means house and land real estate is very competitively priced.

BALLARAT, CENTRAL HIGHLANDS, VIC - AMBULATORY & RACETRACK

Compassion   |   Respect   |  Professionalism  |  Teamwork

The Ballarat Veterinary Practice Equine clinic is a 12-vet practice based on the edge of the Ballarat Turf Club Racing & Training Centre, where 550 horses are trained and 25 race meetings are held each year. There is also a large standardbred population, with 40 meetings held per year at the local harness track. The clinic provides a hospital based surgical and imaging referral service, and is the base for the ambulatory services provided to the racetrack & general equine clients in the surrounding district.

The hospital also has an internship program with four interns currently employed. The practice conducts regular visits to neighbouring racing regions and has a satellite five-vet equine clinic based in Warrnambool.

The position available is for a member of the racetrack and ambulatory team, which provides service to all breeds of horses from thoroughbreds, standardbreds and sport horses, through to pleasure horses and ponies in the district.

As well as racing stable work, typical general practice equine work is also undertaken including lameness assessment, dentistry, lacerations, reproductive work including ultrasound scanning, field colic assessment and all general veterinary equine work. Due to the size of the practice and level of experience there is strong support for our ambulatory veterinarians at all times.

The practice has three surgeons (two specialist and one ACVS residency trained) available for consultation and assistance with referral of cases.  The clinic has full surgical facilities, ultrasound, digital radiography, endoscopy, scintigraphy and standing MRI facilities and the ability to house up to 28 horses.

Please click here to see photos! photos

Successful applicants should be graduates with at least two years' experience, preferably in a similar role.

Weekend after hours responsibility is shared equally between members of the ambulatory team with the normal rotation being one weekend every four weeks. Duties will involve all ambulatory services as outlined above and also attending both thoroughbred and harness race meetings as the official veterinarian.

Remuneration is dependent on experience, however the package starts at $120,000 which includes base salary, superannuation, and an estimate of extra after hours commissions, as well as a car and phone for business and reasonable personal use. Also included in the remuneration package is Australian Veterinary Association membership and an annual Continuing Education stipend of $2,000 per annum.  We support and encourage applicants to pursue certificate and membership qualifications.  We also assist with visa applications and relocation logistics.

Ballarat is a thriving regional city, rich in history and culture.  It is the perfect place to settle with all of the convenience of city life, but with postcard-perfect scenic beauty, and less hustle and bustle than Melbourne - while still only being an hour and a half drive from all Melbourne has to offer.  With highly sought after private schools, and excellent health care, Victoria's largest inland city has everything you need.  For more insight about life in Ballarat, please click https://youtu.be/BP3ml8sEUBg

Interested applicants should forward a resume and covering letter which includes the names of three referees to the attention of Dr. Andrew Cust at careers@bvp.com.au

GEELONG, SOUTH-WEST MELBOURNE - SMALL ANIMAL New Graduates welcome

Full or Part time Veterinarian – North Geelong Veterinary Clinic

We are looking for either a full or part time Veterinarian to join our growing team. Full time would be the preference.

The position can be anything from two to four days per week, including Saturdays on a rotating basis. Our full-time vets are rostered for 36 hours a week across 4 weekdays (this includes a one hour lunch break). BEECHWORTH, NORTH-EAST - MIXED

Want to live in one of the most liveable towns in Australia, while enjoying a stimulating professional environment in a rapidly growing country practice?

Indigo Veterinary Services, based at Beechworth, in Northeast Victoria, offers just that. We are experiencing exciting growth and are about to commence construction of our new hospital. Our clients are getting excited, and our patients will be too, when they see what we have to offer.

Now we want a new vet to join us on this journey. A vet who is keen to connect with this stimulating community, taking the time to get to know the people, places and activities. Our practice is about 90% small animals, but when you go out to visit the local farms for horse or livestock visits, you get to explore the gorgeous, scenic backroads.

Please click here to see photos! photos

Beechworth really is one of the top 10 livable towns in Australia. It offers affordable living in an historic town oozing with charm. It is a great place to raise a family, and nearby large regional cities provide excellent educational and health services. We have an award winning gourmet food trail, and offer outstanding recreational opportunities, plus diverse cultural pursuits involving art and history. The Victorian Alps are close by for those wanting alpine activities in winter or summer.

Here is a testimonial from one of our long term vets:
I particularly enjoy working at Indigo Vet Services because of the friendly and supportive nurses and vets. The clinic is sourced with great quality equipment including inhouse laboratory, dental machine and xray, digital radiography and ultrasound. There is flexibility of working hours, which I really appreciate. We see a huge variety of cases and have the resources and time to work them up. The big advantage of the smaller clinic is that it is much more peaceful and less stressful for the animals (and the humans).

So, are you conscientious at your job, and committed to developing your skills as a country vet in a small, mixed practice? Are you also seeking a town where you can walk or ride to work, enjoy a desirable work and family balance, allowing you to develop all aspects of your life to your potential? If so, then please give us a call to discuss the possibilities that can be unlocked at Indigo Veterinary Services.

Talk to Helen on 03 5728 2410 (BH) or email indigovets@gmail.com and tell us what your ideal work day looks like in a country veterinary practice. Let’s see if we have a match!!

LETHBRIDGE, NORTH WEST OF GEELONG - EQUINE VET

Golden Plains Equine (GPE) located in Lethbridge Victoria is a 5 veterinary equine practice. We are looking for a 6th equine veterinarian due to substantial business growth.

GPE practices state of the art surgery, medicine and reproduction. The case load includes a wide variety of horses from Clydesdales to miniature ponies, racing industry, sport and pleasure horses and everything in between. Our facility is one of the largest in Victoria comprising a modern hospital with a stable capacity for 28 horses, isolation and various additional yards and paddocks over 80 acres. Our foaling down facilities are under lights and cameras. We have all the latest equipment you would expect in a first grade equine hospital.

The growing practice is currently performing approximately 30 gas anaesthetics per month (arthroscopies, colics, throat surgery, cryptorchids, fracture repair etc) and at least double that amount of intravenous anaesthetics and standing procedures that are also performed in the hospital (joint flushes, implant removals, stitch ups, geldings, eye surgeries, sequestrums etc). Additionally we perform numerous field anaesthetics. Three surgeons (one on staff and two visiting) with specialty training routinely use the facility, and visiting specialists in other fields (medicine/ophthalmology/reproduction) are welcomed to use the facility.

We have a large reproduction case load that includes artificial insemination (frozen and fresh chilled), embryo-flushes and collection for ET, hysteroscopic procedures, and laparascopic PGE. We service a wide range of studs in the area.  As a consequence of our busy reproductive case load, we also see numerous sick foals, dystocias and associated medicine and surgery cases.

The practice also has a busy ambulatory component and services a large number of clients across South Western Victoria, the Mornington Peninsula and the Central Highlands and Goldfields. The ambulatory work is unique in that the hospital and hospital staff can offer support to vets working in the field. As a result, our clients have become accustom to gold standard service on farm.

We are interested in hiring a passionate equine veterinarian. Our preference would be for someone wanting to move to the area long term and become part of our awesome team. We are very supportive of continuing education, and the practice would be ideal for someone that seeks higher skills within equine practice. Areas that may be of interest include: sport’s medicine including lameness, surgery, medicine, reproduction, anaesthesia, imaging etc.

If you are interested in this position with us, we would very much like to hear from you so that we can discuss the details further. Please contact Dr Stuart Brown on 0474 340 666 or drstuartbrown@me.com

Are you looking for a position where you feel supported to continue improving your professional skills? Do you want to be part of a friendly, knowledgeable, happy team who you will love coming to work with each day?

Lara Pet Hospital and Veterinary Centre opened its doors over 6 years ago and has grown into a practice with a fantastic team and work atmosphere. We are now a 3 vet practice and are continuing to grow, while constantly striving to maintain strong bonds with our patients, clients and each other.

WALWA, NORTH EAST VICTORIA - MIXED ANIMAL New Graduates welcome

DO YOU WANT TO BE A REAL VET?

Our major city centres (Wagga Wagga and Albury/Wodonga) are only 1.5 hrs away, but there is a general store in town that provides living essentials. There are plenty of things to do outside of work, thanks to our unique location; fishing, horse riding, swimming, kayaking, bushwalking, skiing, camping, along with a very welcoming local football and netball club. Walwa is friendly little town with a great sense of community. The clients are wonderful and always look after you. There are three cosy country pubs close by, and someone will always be willing to have a beer with you after a hard day’s work!

We have 4 vets, in addition to our office manager, administrative assistant and three great vet nurses. The work is 50% small animals and 50% large. Large animal work is varied and rewarding. We have several significant beef enterprises that we proudly service along with a small number of dairy farms. We do around 30,000 pregnancy tests a year and many bull testings. We are also lucky enough to see regular individual clinical cases including lameness exams, downer cows, dystocias, calf illnesses etc.

Please click here to see photos! photos

There is a large equine component. We do basic horse work out on the road including castrations, wounds and colic cases.  We have hospital facilities for more challenging cases, and a specialised reproduction barn for the breeding season. Most cases are not referred on.

Our small animal hospital is busy and growing. We have clients bringing their animals to us from far and wide. We service four different animal rescue groups, which makes for all sorts of interesting cases.  We deal with all surgical challenges.
No day in this practice is the same! Besides the usual species, we see alpacas, sheep, goats, bison, camels, birds, kangaroos, wombats, mice, ducks- the list goes on! Special interests are encouraged.

The purchase of the Tumbarumba Veterinary Practice in July 2018 has further expanded our client base, and range of cases. There is a trip to the small town of Batlow once a week as required, as well as frequent farm visits within the surrounding areas. Vets are on rotation between the two practices depending on case load, with most major surgery being referred down to Walwa.

One of the partners also owns and runs a practice in Tennant Creek, NT (Barkly Veterinary Practice). This operates via a rotation of vets from Walwa, as well as locums when needed. Tennant Creek is on the Stuart Highway, roughly halfway between Alice Springs and Katherine, in the centre of the Northern Territory. The town is the administration base for the vast and beautiful Barkly Region. The town population is around 3,000, over half of which are Indigenous. There are six Community Living Areas outlying the township, six main remote communities, and about 20 Homeland communities. We also do horse work, and there is potential for cattle work on the closer stations.

The clinic is supported by an indigenous vet nurse and an office administrator. The Barkly practice also implements Animal Management Programs within the township and across the Region, in collaboration with Barkly Regional Council. Remote AMP work generally involves a team headed by two vets. We have a designated remote work 4WD, as well as a town 4WD.

This job offers a unique opportunity, in which the applicant will have the close mentorship of four fantastic, very experienced vets.

We are ideally looking for a new graduate vet who is confident and keen. If you are hardworking, energetic and have a “can do” attitude- we would love to talk to you.
