Our intern graduates have gone on to pursue further internships in preparation for residencies, worked as mixed or equine veterinarians both locally and within Australia, and gone abroad to work in the UK. We also offer opportunities for intern graduates to stay on as associates at WestVETS. Our internship is an ideal transition for recent and new graduates who would like further experience before committing to pursue sole equine vs mixed practice or small animal.

A typical intern day starts at 7am with inpatient assessment and treatments. Hospital rounds occur at 8 AM with supervising clinicians, at which time daily patient plans are reassessed. Following rounds, interns will either assist with inpatient re-evaluation and procedures, outpatient, or ambulatory appointments (lameness evaluations, prepurchase evaluations, etc), emergencies, or general anaesthesia. Interns may also perform small animal consultations, with support as needed. The hospital sees an average of 1-2 primary opinion and referral emergencies per day in addition to scheduled appointments. WestVETS has a busy and varied caseload, including orthopaedic/sport medicine, lacerations, colics, pneumonias, diarrhoeas, neonates, and ophthalmology cases. The hospital also sees a number of small ruminant and camelid cases.

South East Queensland is a great place to live and work. Interns are based at Anstead which is 30 minutes from the CBD, and 1.5 hours to the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast. Interns have long weekends and vacation time to explore Brisbane and surrounding area. Our interns have time to continue pursuing their hobbies such as triathlons, hiking, camping, cycling and equestrian pursuits should they want to.

Please contact us if you would like more details regarding the internship. Visiting is strongly encouraged therefore please contact us if you would like to visit. We strongly encourage candidates to speak to current and past interns.

Are you looking for something better? Thinking about a change of scenery? Want to be surrounded by people who love what they do? Keep reading as we may have the perfect opportunity for you!

We are looking for an exceptional veterinarian to join our team.

Happy Paws Veterinary Clinic is a privately owned small animal clinic located in the northern end of the Gold Coast, opened in 2017 by Dr Vanessa.

"My why: Since graduating in 1999 I have worked in a variety of independently owned and corporate practices throughout Canada, UK and Australia. I dreamt of a clinic where 30 minute consultations would be considered standard in order to deliver exceptional service, be thorough and still have enough time to develop a relationship with the clients. A clinic where they embrace team culture based on respect and integrity, working alongside people who share a true passion for their job and enjoy coming to work, where mistakes were viewed as learning opportunities and feedback is welcomed. 7 years on, not only has this dream come true but we have become bigger and better with a recently completed expansion to the clinic! The expansion includes a separate cat entrance, waiting room, consult rooms and cat ward. A separate dental suite and a large imaging room." – Dr Vanessa Escott

MALENY, SUNSHINE COAST HINTERLAND - MIXED New Position

Veterinarian

Maleny Veterinary Services is a family-owned mixed practice located in the magnificent hinterland of the Sunshine Coast. We are spoilt with lovely clients, gorgeous countryside and a great proximity to both Brisbane and the beaches of the Sunshine Coast.

We are an independent, well-established and highly respected practice with clients comprised of companion animals (80%) plus a variety of large animal work including cattle, alpacas, pigs, sheep and horses.

Our team is a friendly bunch of 22ish staff members including seven vets, ten super-nurses and an awesome support crew. Our practice philosophy is one of providing outstanding, old-fashioned service coupled with the pursuit of excellence in what we do. We look after each other, knowing that without a strong team, we can’t do our job well.

With one of our vets departing the team to move north, we are seeking an experienced veterinarian to jump on in. Is it you?! The right person is a friendly, qualified veterinary surgeon who can help service our caseload. With our existing vets ranging in experience from 1 year right through to 30+ years, we are ideally looking for someone with at least a year or two under their belts who wants a new challenge in a supportive team where professional growth and peer support are highly valued.

The annual holiday allowance is four weeks, with an additional week of paid study leave per year after your first year of employment with us.

The work environment is open, friendly and supportive and veterinarians are encouraged to collaborate on cases whenever possible. We strive to practise the highest quality medicine and surgery and there is ample scope for our veterinarians to develop their skills and special interests.

Equipment on hand in the practice includes dental machines, ultrasound, in-house IDEXX lab, Vetscan Imagyst, tonometer, etc. The relative proximity to Sunshine Coast also allows referral to specialist centres when required.

We’re a particularly good-humoured, tenacious bunch and there are days that we forget that what we’re doing is supposed to be ‘work’. But don’t just take our word for it – we encourage applicants to speak to the vets currently working here to discuss their experiences!

If you share our philosophy and dedication to animal care, have great communication and organisation skills AND a ridiculous sense of humour, we look forward to hearing from you.

CURRIMUNDI, SUNSHINE COAST - SMALL ANMIAL New Graduates welcome

ARE YOU A VET LOOKING FOR MORE? THE NEXT 2 MINUTES COULD CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

Hello, we are Doctor Retief Botha, and Nurse Sue Botha, we are the owners, and we head the team at Currimundi Vet Clinic (In our humble opinion the best clinic on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia – and possibly the world [only joking]).

I grew up in South Africa, and spent many days on cattle, sheep and wildlife farms. The outdoor life, and fun and adventure, is in my blood. This was also the start of my love and fascination for animals. I did work experience at a vet clinic while at school, and I was hooked. Fast forward to working in Small Animal clinics in the UK, and then moving to Australia, and becoming clinic owners. We are as passionate as ever, and excited to keep creating an amazing working environment for our team, and a place of trust for our clients.

Sue, always wanted to be a vet nurse and started her nursing training at the age of 16. She grew up in the UK, working in London and mixed practice in Kent. Let’s just say Sue has a few years of experience now. And was once nominated as one of the best vet nurses in the UK.

We are searching for a new vet to join our family practice

The small animal position, would be perfect for you if:

Sounds like this could be for you? Then read on…

This opportunity is for someone who doesn’t necessarily have to have an abundance of industry experience, but rather someone who has a passion for being a veterinarian and embraces a lifestyle clinic and location.

Here is a chance to join a practice where you are able to undertake small animal vet work. Our team is cohesive, well trained and has a ‘can do’ attitude. The potential to upskill and give anything a go will be limited only by your imagination.

On a personal note, I didn’t realise at the time I first purchased the clinic, but looking back now I see that I had clear motives:

Ask yourself - what is holding you back from something better?

Here’s what we think makes this job so exciting:

The team can provide references upon request, so don’t take my word for it, ask them for yourself!

If you reach out to have a chat know that our conversation will be kept completely confidential.

Email us at info@currimundivet.com.au  It takes 2 minutes out of your day, and it could just turn out to be the best thing you have ever done.

BROADBEACH, GOLD COAST - SMALL ANIMAL

Permanent Full Time Position, GOLD COAST.

ASAV Accredited Hospital of Excellence.

Do you want to practice vet science the way you always dreamt it would be?

Come and work in a family owned, independent clinic that is the Gold Coast’s only ASAV accredited Hospital of Excellence, and experience the difference…

We believe that working with dedicated pet owners who have the financial capacity and enthusiasm to say yes to our recommendations is key to practising rewarding veterinary science. Over the last 18 years our family owned practice has focused on achieving this – we have actively promoted and encouraged pet insurance and we now have a very high percentage of insured pets, consistently one of the highest in the country according to industry benchmarking surveys that we participate in. We are also blessed to work in a very good socioeconomic area where people seek out the best possible care for their pets and we have worked hard on attracting and retaining these types of clients. As a result we have very few of those dreaded financial discussions with owners, get the opportunity to treat a wide variety of conditions and feel the satisfaction of seeing patients have an improved quality of life.

Over the years our clinic has built a reputation of caring and excellence in patient outcomes and we have built a client base that trust us. This leads to both personal satisfaction and job satisfaction and improved overall wellbeing for all of our team. And a successful team is a happy team. It doesn’t happen by chance, but we work hard to create a pleasant working environment with a good team culture. We only employ Cert IV qualified vet nurses & Vet Techs so that you can trust in their abilities and let nurses do genuine patient nursing, freeing you up to focus on vet tasks. With a multi-vet team, on only one site, and two very experienced clinic owners who are always happy to mentor and support you, we strive to provide a very supportive environment. We will always back our team and step in to help resolve any client complaints or concerns, leaving you free to focus on your clinical work.

To achieve good clinical outcomes you not only need a supportive environment, but one needs good facilities and up to date, quality equipment. As the Gold Coast’s only ASAV accredited Hospital of Excellence you can rest assured that we are well equipped with all the toys needed to achieve good clinical outcomes. Being accredited means that all that we say about ourselves is not just marketing catch phrases. Our records, protocols, equipment and standards have all been independently assessed and found to meet the accreditation standards, and every 4 years we have been independently inspected. Not only do our building facilities have to be up to scratch, but there is a stringent list of expected equipment that we are required to have and keep well maintained, and it is a given that we are also expected to look after our team.

Please click here to see photos! photos

But to join our team you don’t have to be a “superstar vet” - none of us are perfect, so please don’t expect that of us! We are looking for a dedicated vet who strives to do their best, who shows empathy and believes that compassion and client communication are key to successful outcomes. We want a vet who wants the support to keep on improving, no matter what stage of their career they are at. At Gold Coast Vet Surgery we pride ourselves on offering good support and mentorship. Not only is CPD is encouraged and funded, but our package includes membership of Lincoln Institute’s “Leading Edge” program and access to VIN. Your opinion will be considered and your contributions truly appreciated. As a compassionate, family orientated business you will work alongside the owners who understand your workload and challenges and there is no corporate head office to deal with.

As a family owned, independent practice we pride ourselves on our family friendly approach. Not only are our team a part of our family, but we also view our clients as a part of the extended Gold Coast Vet Surgery family. We value a healthy lifestyle as well as being great vets, so there are no after hours or Sunday work and family friendly business hours (8am – 5:30pm Mon to Fri and 8:30am – 12pm on Saturdays). We have a referral hospital and two after hours emergency centres on the Gold Coast (soon to be two referral hospitals & three after hours centres!) which means that despite not working after hours ourselves, you’ll still have the peace of mind that your patients will be very well cared for after hours.

If you strive to provide the best care that you can for your patients, enjoy making a difference in people’s experience at the vet, and are proud to provide great customer service as part of a fun team, then this is the position for you. Our practice attracts clients who expect and appreciate a caring, thorough and yet practical approach. If you are looking for job satisfaction, like to work up cases and like to develop a personal relationship and rapport with your clients, then you will flourish in our “family”.

Our lovely vet, who is sadly leaving to return to the UK, said that “This is the best practice that I have ever worked in. I love that the schedule is so well managed to give you enough time with the clients, time & support to work up cases and enough time to write up your notes and still leave on time at the end of the day with everything done.”

To develop, grow and progress your career to become the best vet that you can be, apply now by emailing Dr Kevin & Dr Fiona Cruickshank at: vet@goldcoastvet.com.au with your resume and a covering letter outlining why this is the position for you. If you are the right fit for our team you may be very pleasantly surprised with what we are offering.

Absolute confidentiality is assured.

Sunshine Coast Equine Veterinary Clinic is a well established practice that has been operating for over 25 years from a custom built clinic located adjacent to the Sunshine Coast Turf Club. SCEVC is the only equine surgical facility on the Sunshine Coast.
There is also the opportunity for some small animal work in our affiliated small animal practice The Park Veterinary Clinic which operates from the same premises, should you be keen to keep up your small animal medical and surgical skills.

The practice has a busy and varied caseload, both medical and surgical. At our disposal is the latest diagnostics and treatments including two digital WIFI radiography units, three video endoscopes, dynamic endoscope, two portable ultrasound units with colour Doppler, power dental equipment, in-house laboratory and PRP, in addition to our state of the art surgical facility.

Many of our clients have been with us since we started the practice which covers all disciplines including racetrack work, dressage, performance, endurance and pleasure horses.

We can promise the successful candidate an exciting, interesting role where no two days are ever the same and where your continued learning and development will be encouraged and supported. New graduates will be gradually introduced to our regular clients, with the opportunity to shadow the senior veterinarians until confident in various routine procedures.

Our standing stocks and dedicated lameness work up area is ideal for bringing horses to our clinic for a team approach to more complicated cases and provides a great forum for learning and discussing cases.

All vets have one of our friendly and extremely competent nurses allocated to them each day for clinic duties or ambulatory appointments.

We will actively support and financially assist your continued professional development in your particular area of interest, as well as any study for membership or specialist qualifications. And if you are a great fit for the practice there may also be partnership opportunities down the track if this is of interest.

The practice is located at Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast with its world-renowned beaches and scenic hinterland. The area is one of the fastest growing and most sought after locations in Australia, offering a great lifestyle and is well serviced with shops, schools, nightlife, medical facilities and all other amenities.

About You
Ideally some equine experience would be an advantage, but if you are capable and eager to learn, we will definitely consider a new or recent graduate who demonstrates an interest in equine performance practice.

You will have a love of horses with an interest in either surgery, racetrack practice, diagnostics or sports medicine.

You will also be self-motivated and capable of working independently yet still be a team player as we are a tight knit team that works together to get the job done. We also think work should be enjoyable so a sense of humour will be a bonus!

We have a strong culture of, and commitment to continued learning and development and as such mentoring and support will be provided, along with back-up from experienced vets to help you develop your skills.

It goes without saying that you will be a good communicator and are committed to building a strong rapport with our clientele, colleagues and team.
