What our clients say….

”I highly recommend Glenelg Vet. We have a closer vet but we moved to Glenelg Vet due to a recommendation. I am struggling to express how exceptional the veterinary doctors and nurses are. Aside from being knowledgeable, the kindness and sensitively they showed me throughout the life of my dog makes me cry to think about. My dog had diabetes and was diagnosed many years ago. I was provided excellent advice throughout. I am particularly grateful for the kindness and compassion that they showed the day we had to say goodbye. I have not had a bad (or even average) experience with any of the Vets or Veterinary nurses, they have all been fabulous. I would give them five thousand stars if I could!”

“I have been going to Glenelg Vet for almost 13 years with my 2 babies! They are so caring kind and gentle with my girls. I would never go anywhere else and would highly recommend Glenelg Vet! Thank you for being amazing staff and loving my girls “

PERMANENT VETERINARY POSITION AVAILABLE  in Murray Bridge, SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Small Animal or Mixed Practice Vets including new graduates are encouraged to apply.

"The MBVC workflow is efficient, with appropriate staffing and time for consultations/procedures prioritised. Vets have adequate time for work-ups and write-ups written into the schedule and you can leave the clinic feeling accomplished, without a pile of work built up to conquer the next day. Clients are trusting of the long-term relationships they have built with the MBVC team and were mostly welcoming of a new face in the consult room. The clinic itself is large and well-designed, meaning that the work flows well through the building, while there is also sufficient space for research, thinking things through and down-time to catch-up. The team at MBVC are welcoming and supportive, everyone pitches in to do their bit - it is a pleasure to come to work." Dr Chelsea (Locum Vet January 2021)

What it Takes

We are looking for a skilled, compassionate veterinarian who is a team player with a sense of humour, is excited by the role, and wants to grow with us.

Minimum Required:

About the role

About the location

Take advantage of living in a rural community without missing out. The substantial tourism and agriculture sectors support an array of amenities locally, including various art and sporting facilities and clubs, a well-equipped hospital, horse riding groups and several schools and supermarkets. It is only a short 20-minute flight to the capital city of South Australia, Adelaide. The Island is a remarkable place that provides a unique lifestyle unlike anywhere else. A lot of our team members have relocated to Kangaroo Island to enjoy what it offers with their families – an incredible unspoilt natural environment with wide expanses of beaches and bush, authentic wildlife experiences, premium local food and wine, art inspired by peaceful, wild surrounds and the opportunity for agricultural ventures.

Our offer

Testimonial – Felicity Stoeckeler BVSc (Hons)

"Kangaroo Island appealed to me as an exciting place to find my feet as a new graduate…. The island got under my skin quickly and here I am five years later, happier than I’ve ever been.

The natural beauty of the island is something that continues to surprise me. I had expected to spend every weekend or two visiting friends in Adelaide, but here I am every weekend still chipping my way through hikes, remote beaches, campsites, foraging in forests, and testing the menus at some incredible restaurants. Everything changes each season- there is always something new to do.

Small communities don’t suit everyone, but after a few years in the city, I was looking for just what KI offered- a small community where people look out for each other, where I can pop home for lunch, and never have to worry about traffic or parking, and where people want to get to know you. An unexpected benefit was how cheap real estate is compared to the mainland. My current rent is less than my run-down uni share house, and I live in a new flat on five acres of coastline.

There are in-built and informal mentorship and support within the team, which really helped me through the first few years after graduation, and continues to help me today.

The workplace culture is supportive and cohesive, with plenty of open discussion around mental health and debriefing after difficult or sad cases. We have formal rounds once a week, as well as a shared office space with regular informal case discussions.

The on-call roster is shared equally, and the vets will often work together to ensure we all get the weekends we need off. I found on-call very daunting initially, but the senior vets were very generous with their availability to support me. Now that I have worked through some anxiety I am finding on-call work quite rewarding- people are always so thankful we are available. It feels like my service to the community that gives me so much.

If any of this appeals to you then please come meet our team. You’ll either think we’re a bunch of dorks or you’ll fit right in."

All our vets have agreed to talk to applicants about their time working at Kangaroo Island Vet and living on the island. Please reach out and we can put you in contact with your choice from our website.

It’s time to apply

Our team is our greatest asset, so we prioritise finding the right people. We want everyone to have fun, love their job and have the time to enjoy their wonderful surroundings outside of work. If you feel passionate about this role and excited to move to Kangaroo Island, please don’t hesitate to phone or email.

Take it down a notch. Come to our safe haven with a close-knit community to enjoy a relaxed rural lifestyle.

This is not the greatest job in the world….. This is just a tribute:

Mixed Animal Practitioner – Senior role

The Basics: 130k Base salary, Vehicle work and private use, 38hr week, 9-day fortnight, no Saturdays.

The Role: We are looking for an experienced senior vet to fill a lead clinician role, in one of our two privately owned and purpose-built clinics servicing South Australia’s beautiful South-East. Working at our Kingston Veterinary Clinic, you would be expected to lead the day-to-day workings, clinical caseload and help your team love the life they live by supporting professional growth and getting everyone out of the clinic on time.

Call it a paradigm shift or just call it a better way to live as a country vet. We believe this job allows you to be part of a high-end rural practice with scope for focus of your choosing, whilst not being a client burdened sole practitioner. This role caters for the clinician that has the capability to take on routine large animal work sole charge but may still have a strong interest in high quality small animal medicine.

You won't be alone as you will be backed by a supportive management team whilst having autonomy over your career. The ratio of small to large animal work will depend upon your strengths and interests. Our current mix of work is approximately 50% beef and sheep, 40% small animal and 10% other equine/other.

Specky place to live by the beach!

Home of the Larry the Big Lobster! Kingston SE is a place you can still buy a house with beachfront access and a big backyard. The main industries are fishing, viticulture, and agriculture (sheep and beef cattle). It still has old school South Australian rural township values, investing heavily into community sport teams and industries that support the town.

The town itself is well serviced and you have an abundance of options in your spare time. From 4wd adventures and camping on the beaches, joining the tennis or sailing club, diving for cray fish and surfing. You can also spend time exploring all the foodie experiences the South East has to offer from wagyu at Millicent right across to wineries of the Coonawarra. There is plenty of scope for accessing the cultural and arts experiences in and around Kingston as well. Our combined clinics cover approximately 250km of the south-east coastline allowing all year-round access to some great areas like the trendy getaway town of Robe and or the hidden gem of Beachport. We are happy for you to find the right place to call home as long as you are within twenty minutes of the clinic for your on-call nights.

In Return for showing up and stepping up:

We care for our team: Our clinics are staffed appropriately to accommodate leave and allow for business as usual. We live by example and here is what some of our team get up to when they request additional leave to our usual holidays:

Our team also take care of us: They did not worry and sent us on our way when we wanted to go on a 6-week camping holiday with our 5 kids. It is just how our entire team rolls.

Our business: We are Sean and Sarah McGrath a husband and wife vet team who have owned the business for 8 years. In that time, it has grown considerably, we have learnt a lot about being employers and have been mostly taught by the great people around us. Our strengths lie in the fact that we have worked toward developing a team in which everyone has input into both short and long term business management.

We have developed a business that delivers exceptional levels of customer care and our facilities cater for better employee and customer experiences. Both sites are new purpose-built facilities (Kingston to be open January) with standard modern equipment to deliver a high level of care and service to rural communities that do not have close access to referral.

Who you will work with: The team works on 8 FTE of vets across the two sites whom are all experienced clinicians with the majority 5 -15 years experience. This is in addition to well-trained, fun and professional nursing and reception teams. All backed by an operations manager, financial manager, wellbeing personnel and the two of us! The two sites run independently for the majority of the time, however do share resources to ensure efficient work flow, case management support and comradery.

If you would like to come have a look at the clinic and have dinner with our team. Please contact our operations manager Michelle on: 0422 707 611 or Sarah 0407 417 698 or forward a cover letter and CV to michelle@millicentvet.com.au

WALLAROO, WEST SIDE YORKE PENINSULA - SMALL ANIMAL New Graduates welcome

We would love to take on a new graduate, a recent graduate or an experienced vet. We are experienced in supporting and mentoring new graduates, and you would have a team of experienced vets around to help and guide you. We take great pride in looking after vet students and new graduates - teaching, supporting and backing you up as you learn and gain confidence.

Seaside Vet Surgery is in Wallaroo, on the Yorke Peninsula, home to some excellent beaches. This is a relaxed town, a popular holiday area, with the population swelling during school holidays and long weekends. The practice is privately owned, with owners Dr Natalie Wakeham and Dr Amanda Bunney returning to the area three years ago to take over the practice, after starting their careers here as new graduates (a million years ago)!

Please click here to see photos! photos

While we’d ideally love a full-time vet to add to the team, we would absolutely consider part time arrangements, and we always try to accommodate our team-members needs in terms of childcare and family circumstances, as well as social and sporting commitments. We’re very LGBTQIA+ friendly, very family friendly, diverse in age and experience, and we don’t care if you have tatts!

Seaside Vet Surgery was my first job as a vet, and it’s a big change going from a student to a practising clinician! There was plenty of support given and there was always someone around to help. Being a bit further from Adelaide meant we did more things ourselves, which allowed me to learn so much. It’s a very supportive clinic, with a focus on create a great work-life balance. Finishing at 5pm on weekdays and only being open in the morning on Saturdays definitely helped to achieve this. Management were very respectful of outside work commitments and flexible to help accommodate these.” – Grace, 2018 graduate.

We do all the regular small animal things, with the regular toys and equipment. We definitely have some fun while we work, and we always look out for each other. We take great satisfaction in looking after the team, supporting each individual vet, nurse, and receptionist. We strive to maintain high standards of patient advocacy and care, and we are known for taking great care of our clients as well.

We can offer a great salary and benefits package, and lots of support and mentoring. We provide CPD leave and allowances, and will pay for your Vet Surgeons Board rego in your first year. We also have monthly production bonuses for all staff. We do provide an after-hours service to the community, which has reduced over the last two years. As we are phasing after hours out, participation in the after-hours rota is optional for our new vet (you!).

We would love to find a vet who enjoys working with people, who can communicate well with their colleagues and clients, and who is passionate about being a great patient advocate. If that sounds like you, and you like the idea of living and working by the beach, please get in touch!

PORT LINCOLN - SMALL ANIMALS New Graduates welcome

Why would you want to work in a busy city practice when you can work in a casual regional environment, where it only takes you five minutes to get to work?

Imagine working in a rural area where you don’t have to do any large animals and you can just focus on providing a high level of service to the local pets from a really well-equipped clinic.

Imagine knocking off work at 5.30pm and heading out for a fish or going for a walk in the National Park that is right at your doorstep. That’s right the clinic is open between civilized hours, 8am and 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 8 to 12 on Saturday. Yes, we do provide an after-hours service, but with the right quota of vets that would be only one weekend in 4 or 5. Since after hours can be stressful on your own, we have a nurse also rostered, so you never have to worry about who is going to help out. And by the way the after-hours compensation is probably one of the most generous going around, so it does make it a little more bearable.

Please click here to see photos! photos

As you may have guessed we are talking about a rural coastal area, that includes some of the best facilities around, one of which is an airport that is serviced by both Qantas and Rex.

Other things we can potentially help you out with are visas, if you are coming from overseas, relocation expenses, short term accommodation and Vet Board rego fees.

We would love to help you develop your career while still having enough down time to enjoy what life has to offer.

Just a heads up, the clinic you are looking for is in Port Lincoln, Australia, in the beautiful State of South Australia.

Whether you are an experienced vet, a new graduate or somewhere in between, if you think you might be interested in breathing in some of the freshest air anywhere in the universe, drop us a line and let’s chat.

NEWTON, ADELAIDE FOOTHILLS - SMALL ANIMAL New Position

Looking for a role that is fulfilling, challening and rewarding? I want to hire another vet and I want them to enjoy their work!

Newton Vet Centre has undergone massive changes in the past nine months. In March 2022 it was purchased by Dr. Conor Brand in conjunction with Dr. Mark Reeve of Tea Tree Gully Vet Hospital. It is currently operating as a one-vet practice and is definitely ready for a second vet. The clinic is positioned in an area undergoing significant development. I see many wonderful clients, many of whom have insurance. Word of mouth has been our best friend this year, and I see new clients regularly who are coming to us for a gentle and thorough approach with patients, as well as outstanding client relations from the nursing team.

The role is fully flexible with hours. You can work school hours, mornings only, afternoons only etc. Ideally, one Saturday morning in two but again willing to discuss. We close at 6 pm weekdays and are closed Sundays. Ideally, I would like a part-time vet with the potential to become full-time as the practice grows. But if you want full-time we can discuss that too. Tea Tree Gully Vet Hospital is our sister clinic, so the potential for working at two sites is there. One of the best parts of this position is that you will be entering from an early stage in the practice's development, meaning you will have input into the practice's growth and direction. We can build your role around your passion within veterinary medicine.

The practice is situated in a nice building, the consult rooms are large and comfy. The practice is equipped with digital x-ray (including dental), pulse ox, NIBP, modern dental machine, vet tome, fluid pumps, electrocautery etc. More fancy equipment will be purchased as time goes on. Again our vet's interests will dictate this. We predominately see consultations for wellness, skin, musculoskeletal, behavioural, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal conditions. Seriously ill patients are referred to SASH. It is uncommon to keep a patient in overnight but we do so on occasion. A mobile sonographer assists us with medical work-ups.

I am supported by a small but incredible team of nurses. The most important thing to me is positive workplace culture. The happiness of the staff is always in the forefront of my mind, and that's not lip-service.

Continuing education is encouraged and paid for by the clinic. I have colleagues at Tea Tree Gully who are experienced in surgery, ultrasound, dentistry and acupuncture who could provide one-on-one training. My interests include medicine, soft tissue surgery, behaviour and dermatology.

You must have at least 3 years experience and be comfortable with sole charge.

Remuneration is negotiable but if you fit this role I would expect you to be earning $50/hour.

Being an independently owned practice, you will not be subject to KPIs or pressure to sell products. My philosophy is: if you have people skills and efficiency, you will be a valuable employee.

Newton Vet Centre is an equal opportunities employer and a proud member of the 'Welcome Here' project.

Want to apply or find out more about the role? Email cbrand@newtonvetcentre.com.au with a letter of application and CV.

See newtonvetcentre.com.au, and

Whilst I respect the role of recruitment agencies, your services are not required.

The University’s School of Animal & Veterinary Science is seeking to employ a Veterinarian Clinician in the Companion Animal Health Centre (CAHC) to provide General Practice services and to provide clinical mentoring and guidance to final year veterinary and veterinary technology students.

Whilst this position is aimed at more experienced clinicians, consideration will also be given, at an appropriate level, to new or recent graduates. Any such recent graduates will be provided with a comprehensive training program to help them build into the role.

This position will provide an opportunity to work in a friendly closely-knit team of experienced GP clinicians, supported by specialists and a dedicated team of nursing and support staff. The ECC team provides 24/7 emergency and critical care services for a varied and dynamic caseload of small animal patients and works closely with our general practice veterinarians in delivering a complete service to the local pet-owning community. We maintain an extensive network of referring practices and provide them with both an after-hours service and also hospital monitoring for their critical cases. At the same time, we provide a high-quality primary opinion service in general practice. The role we have on offer in GP will collaborate closely with ECC in developing the overall profile of the CAHC.

Our hospital is supported by the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, which is located within the same building. This is often invaluable for fast turnaround of clinical pathology reports and direct contact with pathologists for case discussion.

CAHC forms a part of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) and provides a great environment in which to study for your own ANZCVS membership or similar. Further study and continuing professional development activities are encouraged and supported with time off and up to $3,000 per annum available to spend on your choice of CPD. Other benefits include free full access to international journals through the University Library plus VIN membership.

CAHC is located on the University of Adelaide’s Roseworthy Campus, and is surrounded by great lifestyle opportunities. We are situated on the doorstep of the Barossa Valley, an internationally renowned wine region and a delightful part of the world. We have easy access to beaches, sporting activities, benchmark schools and shopping facilities. There is easy access to the city and its many attractions. Adelaide is known as a cultural centre, with its hugely successful Festival of the Arts, and as a sports-mad destination.

ETHELTON, NW ADELAIDE - SMALL ANIMAL

Truthfully, how bad are you?

What am I talking about you may wonder?

You know when someone askes “how are you?” The common response …

“Not-too-bad”

Isn’t this indicative of the human condition?

The situation sucks but we are trapped in the day-to-day grind hoping tomorrow will be different

#Slidingdoormoment

At Port Adelaide Veterinary Clinic, we do things differently

I’m not talking about cake-on-Friday or our proximity to the sea, mountains & ice-glaciers...

I’m talking about being the change we so desperately need to see in the veterinary industry

What does this look like in our clinic?

Think about the common nurse to vet ratio...double it!

This means that there is no standing around waiting for a nurse to get off the phone

This means that your hospitalised patients have a dedicated nurse

This means that nurses take bloods, catheterise patients and generally help to make the day run smoothly

Think about having your own Veterinary Liaison

What do they do?

And everything else that enables you to do the thing you really enjoy...

Being a vet

Besides being part of a “I’m really well thank-you” team

You will also enjoy:

And because we would like you to enjoy your additional Annual Leave, you will also receive a gift of a $5000 bonus and 2 return tickets to any capital city in Australia at the end of your first year of service!

Next Steps

Curious and want to find out more...

Please contact Lisa Scheepers on mobile 0400 281 293 to have a confidential chat

PS If you would like to chat to some of our current and past team members about what it’s really like to be part of our team, they would be happy to reach out to you.
