The Small Animal Veterinarian position operates within the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Camden (UVTHC) as a first opinion small animal veterinary hospital at the rural (Camden) campus.
In this position, you will:
- provide first opinion small animal services including medicine, surgery and anaesthesia within Camden/Wollondilly districts
- provide 'hands-on' clinical training to final year students for 'Day One' skills - this will include independent supervision of spey clinic and first opinion consults
- support undergraduate veterinarians and nursing staff in decision making and case management
- take part in informal and formal presentations of small animal related topics at the hospital
- participate actively in development of wide range of skills and dissemination of knowledge through attendance at journal club and hospital rounds.

The internship is designed to further develop your skills in a range of disciplines, with a goal of preparing you for a future residency (with a track record of high success rates into residencies, specialty internships and higher research programs). The program has recently been restructured, with approximately 50% of the time being spent in the referral services (surgery, internal medicine, anaesthesia and diagnostic imaging). The remaining 50% will be spent involved in provision of emergency care and support for the hospital. There is the scope to allocate up to three months of the internship to a particular area of interest as part of the referral services rotation period. This would be of benefit to those looking for more specialised training programs as a steppingstone for residency applications.
Interns will participate in most aspects of the teaching hospital activity (weekly morbidity and mortality rounds, journal club, and didactic seminars which are supervised by registered specialists). Support will be provided interns to undertake a research project with the opportunity to present this at the annual ANZCVS Science Week Conference. Interns will be involved with supporting and assessing final year students during their rotations on all services.

At Australia Zoo, Zoo Veterinarians work closely with the Keeper Management team and the Wildlife Hospital team to ensure the daily operations of Australia Zoo Animal Care are maintained to a gold standard of care.

Essential Criteria:
- A Degree in Veterinary Science registerable in Queensland

- Have relevant vaccinations for working in the industry (Tetanus, Lyssavirus, QFever) unless otherwise exempt
- Good knowledge of emergency medicine principles, ultrasonography and surgical procedures and a methodical and sound diagnostic approach
- A high level of interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and communicate effectively and positively with all staff and zoo visitors
- Self-motivation, initiative and the ability to work as part of a team
- Excellent problem-solving skills and evidence-based decision making

The opportunity
As a registered Research Veterinarian/ Scientist at CSIRO’s Health and Biosecurity, you will be working closely with leaders and scientific experts within the Biosecurity Program. The Biosecurity Program in CSIRO Health & Biosecurity works to mobilise science and technology to support preparedness and response to biosecurity risks to plants, animals and the environment.
In this role, you will get the opportunity to participate in investigations of novel genetic biocontrol technologies as more effective and humane alternatives to conventional techniques for managing vertebrate pests, especially small mammals. As the attending registered veterinarian, you will be responsible for providing veterinary oversight for the small animal research facilities at CSIRO Black Mountain, including domestic rabbit and mouse breeding colonies, and leading a small team of research project officers and animal care providers. You will also provide veterinary support to existing projects investigating viral biocontrols for rabbits and may be called upon to consult on other CSIRO projects involving animals.
This is a very rare and unique opportunity for a Veterinary Scientist to continue their passion for animal welfare, focus on research with some involvement in statistics and build a career while contributing towards more humane and effective ways to manage invasive pest animals.
Your high-level duties will include:
- Provide veterinary expertise in support of research projects involving animals, including routine animal husbandry procedures, assisted reproductive techniques (e.g., artificial insemination, in vitro fertilisation), experimental viral infections, and monitoring and collecting biological samples.
- In collaboration with other CSIRO scientists, develop new project ideas/proposals investigating novel genetic and viral biological controls.
- Provide advice on best practices for breeding and colony management of research animals, including prospective health monitoring programs.
- Provide appropriate clinical care services, including monitoring, treatment, and, where required, humane killing and necropsies of research animals.
- Assist in the preparation of scientific papers and reports, and review as required.
- Maintain high levels of animal welfare and strive for improvement through innovation, astute observation, promotion of animal welfare principles and compliance with Animal Ethics Committee protocols and policies.
- Develop, deliver and assess technical training procedures and resources for staff members involved in animal work, and contribute to maintaining a training register.
- In collaboration with other scientists in the Team, develop and manage Animal Research Ethics Applications for projects, including reporting.
- Liaise with the local institutional biosecurity committee concerning the use of regulated biological materials in a PC2 environment, and assist with PC2 (re)certification of small animal facilities.
- Strive for “Zero Harm” (physical and psychological) and actively promote a healthy, safe and environmentally sustainable workplace, in doing so model appropriate and professional behaviour in the workplace and manage people matters proactively.
- Support the Team and Group Leaders to build the long‐term science capability to support the Program’s research delivery and impact, where it pertains to research involving animals.

As the successful candidate, you will bring:
Essential
- A veterinary degree registrable with the ACT Veterinary Practitioners Board, with a minimum of one year of clinical veterinary experience.

The Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP), formerly the Australian Animal Health Laboratory (AAHL), our national biocontainment research facility, is a vital part of Australia’s biosecurity infrastructure. Our team works closely with researchers and animal and human health agencies to protect Australia’s multi-billion-dollar livestock and aquaculture industries and the general public from emerging infectious disease threats. We seek to appoint an experienced animal welfare officer responsible for the provision of dedicated support and monitoring of the well-being, care and use of animals at ACDP to promote delivery of compliant and best practice animal welfare outcomes.
You will work within the Animal Welfare Team as part of the ACDP Operations Group to provide animal welfare support and promote best practice and high-quality outcomes associated with scientific activities across a range of species, housed in highly unique animal care settings. You will support the facility’s compliance with relevant animal welfare legislation and pursuit of continuous improvement principles to drive best practice animal welfare outcomes. In close networking with the Animal Ethics Committee and enterprise Animal Ethics teams, as the Animal Welfare officer, you will provide leadership in maintaining high standards of animal welfare across ACDP and contribute directly to the implementation and management of site-based animal welfare compliance frameworks.
The appointee must be able to meet ACDP microbiological security and security assessment requirements as detailed in the position description.
Your high-level duties will include:
- Provide advice and support in the development, design and implementation of research projects to ensure alignment with the Code, Victorian legislation, CSIRO and ACDP animal welfare policies, and Animal Ethics Committee project-specific requirements.
- Promote best practice in the care and use of animals in research and provide animal welfare guidance on experimental proposals and animal care.
- Contribute to the identification and resolution of animal welfare issues, including the collaborative resolution of issues to drive continuous improvement practices.
- Contribute to the review of research applications, policies, procedures, reports and technical documents to align with relevant animal welfare legislation, CSIRO and ACDP policies.
- Coordinate and conduct regular compliance monitoring, including internal audits and support of external audits.
- Promote the implementation of the 3Rs to drive continuous welfare improvements and support robust and ethical scientific outcomes.
- Build and develop strong, positive relationships with stakeholders, including ACDP staff, enterprise CSIRO animal ethics teams and the Animal Ethics Committee.

As the successful candidate, you will bring:
Essential
- Relevant tertiary qualifications, such as a veterinary or biological sciences degree, or substantial relevant industry experience.
- Demonstrated experience working within a scientific, academic, or research environment.

- Clinical experience working with aquatics, laboratory animal species, livestock, poultry or wildlife is highly regarded.
- Experience in the delivery of projects and project management.
- Demonstrated experience working with Animal Ethics Committees and/or experience implementing and managing compliance frameworks.

The hospital will start providing clinical services from the 19th January 2026. SYDNEY NORTH SHORE - CRITICALIST
Criticalist
Our Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) department is excited to offer the opportunity of a full-time ECC Consultant to join our purpose-built hospital.
The Hospital
North Shore Veterinary Specialist Centre is one of multiple hospitals in the VetPartners group that has multiple hospitals and clinics throughout Australia. As such there is high out of hours caseload which feeds the ECC referral team. The referral hospital is multidisciplinary with referral services in surgery and internal medicine.
Our services include:
- Anaesthesia
- Diagnostic imaging service
- Growing oncology service
- Ophthalmological, dentistry and exotics referral services on-site
- Purpose built MRI facility
- Interns, a medicine resident and specialty nurses to support the services.

The team here are a fantastic group of people – with many celebrating work anniversaries this year of over ten years and multiple vets coming back after specialist training or staying on after training here. As a busy referral hospital, you would have access to the expected tools – dedicated ICU, multiple mechanical ventilators (for tick time here!), ultrasound, CT, MRI (as of Feb 2022), TEG, interventional radiology and a blood bank. On-site there is the VetPartners Training Centre for use and we have a good network with the local practices.
About you
The successful applicant would ideally be ACVECC or ECVECC board-certified. However, candidates eligible to sit the qualifying examinations for these colleges will also be considered as would fellows of the ANZCVS.
The role
The ECC department in this hospital is growing significantly and you would join a team currently consisting of one other board-certified Criticalist, 1-3 ECC interns, rotating interns and multiple ECC-specific nurses.
You would be involved in:
- Training and supervising interns with the support of an administrative manager
- Advising the out of hours and general practice team
- Consulting on critical cases feeding from the entire hospital and our network

As a Veterinary Officer (Field Intern) you will apply your tertiary knowledge to safeguard our biosecurity and market access. About Us
The Victorian Equine Group operates Bendigo Equine Hospital and several satellite locations in Victoria. Our satellite locations service studs and clients in the Lancefield region, in the Nagambie region and in Victoria’s northern regions.
The Bendigo Equine Hospital was established in 2012 and is both a first opinion and referral hospital servicing clients from across Victoria. We operate with a team of 10-13 vets, depending on the season. Our team is highly skilled and features both surgical and reproductive specialists, ambulatory and hospital-based clinicians.
Our caseload is approximately 60% commercial and 40% pleasure horses.
Located opposite the Bendigo Racecourse, Bendigo Equine Hospital is a specialist surgical and medical facility featuring a fully equipped surgical suite. Procedures performed include:

- Soft tissue surgery including colic surgery, dystocia management, reproductive surgery, airway procedures, and wound management.

We are looking for an experienced registered specialist surgeon with aspirations to take on a leadership role within the group. MELBOURNE - DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING INTERN New Position
Diagnostic Imaging Intern
Vet Waves is looking for a skilled veterinarian to join our mobile ultrasound service in Victoria, Australia.
The position is a one-year, full-time position as a sonographer/intern. The program will be a mix of mobile and outpatient ultrasonography with an emphasis on polishing image-interpretation and report-writing. Additional responsibilities include assisting with patient restraint and preparation. The successful candidate will be invited to participate in regular rounds ranging from journal club, to case interpretation, to book club, to topic rounds.
The candidate needs to have previous abdominal ultrasound training and experience and needs to be able to scan and report independently. Ultrasound-guided sampling experience is also required (e.g. fine needle aspirates, pericardiocentesis). Echocardiography, musculoskeletal, thyroid, and ocular ultrasound competency is preferred but not a prerequisite. Additional ultrasound training and report review will be provided by an ACVR diplomate or ANZCVS fellow.
The candidate must be teachable, hard-working, and enjoy interacting with colleagues from different practices (referral and general practice). Membership in small animal radiology is preferred.

About the Role
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their career in a vibrant and supportive environment, contributing to the advancement of knowledge and the provision of high-quality clinical services. As part of our team, you will help shape the future of veterinary education and clinical practice in small animal medicine. You will be joining a welcoming team of academic and professional veterinarians, consisting of three surgeons, two medical oncologists, an anaesthesia service, a 24-hr emergency service, and general practitioners. We maintain a highly collaborative and collegial clinical environment, and strive to demonstrate our passion for veterinary medicine and lifelong learning to our rotating DVM students.
This position would involve a mixture of clinical, teaching, research and administrative responsibilities that can be catered to the strengths of the candidate. Clinical responsibilities would entail primary case management and the re-establishment of this specialty service at the Roseworthy Veterinary Hospital (RVH). Teaching contributions are primarily needed within the 2nd and clinical years of the DVM curriculum, but opportunities also exist to educate new graduates on staff as general practitioners in the RVH, as well as nurses and nursing students. Research and administrative contributions will be dependent on the experience and interest of the candidate.
About the Practice:
The Roseworthy Veterinary Hospital (RVH) provides a range of first opinion, ambulatory, and specialist veterinary care across all animal species to the general public and referring veterinarians. The RVH has excellent facilities including an outstanding Large Animal Hospital, Companion Animal Hospital, and an on-site Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. We have dedicated teaching and animal handling facilities and a herd of approximately 30 teaching horses. We are continuing to develop the clinical services, including plans for commencing residency programs in the near future, and developing our research capabilities.
The large animal team consists of internal medicine specialists, surgeons, an equine sports medicine specialist, junior/ hospital veterinarians, and ambulatory clinicians. We are supported by a team of experienced nurses and anaesthetists. Whilst the bulk of our caseload is equine related, we also provide primary opinion services to the local hobby farm animal owners.
The School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences is located on a 1600 hectare property at the Roseworthy campus. The campus is situated on the doorstep of the Barossa Valley - an internationally renowned wine region, beaches, sporting activities, benchmark schools, and shopping facilities. It is South Australia's only veterinary school and constitutes a team of leading animal and veterinary science academics.
Lecturer (Level B, $114,917 - $135,932 per annum) plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.

About the opportunity
We are seeking to make a single appointment to either Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor in Small Animal Surgery (Education-Focused), with theprimary focus to provide Small Animal Surgery services at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney. The successful candidate will work closely with the Hospital Surgery team to continue to raise the profile of the service to clients and referring veterinarians. You will play an integral part in the oversight of the Surgery unit services while delivering high level of clinical support. You will have an active teaching role of final year DVM veterinary students in liaison with the Heads of Specialist Services and Primary Care. This is an exciting opportunity to transform the lives of future colleagues while caring for the lives of animals.
An academic background is not essential for this role – candidates with strong clinical experience will be considered.
A Lecturer is expected to engage in teaching and research independently or part of a team and support the DVM program predominantly through clinical supervision of placements and clinical service. A lecturer would have advanced training in a specific discipline (eg membership or similar).
The base salary for a Lecturer (Level B) is between $122,830 p.a. - $145,858 p.a + 17% superannuation (a total package of between $143k - $170k p.a)
A Senior Lecturer is expected to make significant contributions to teaching and learning within the DVM program, primarily within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for final year students with involvement in didactic settings for earlier years. A Senior Lecturer is also expected to provide leadership as registered Specialist and have a demonstrated research track record.
The salary for a Senior Lecturer (Level C) is between $150,461 p.a. - $173,492 p.a. (inclusive of a generous loading for a registered specialist) + 17% superannuation (a total package of between $202k - $233k p.a. for a registered specialist).
An Associate Professor is expected to be an academic leader as a clinical specialist with a demonstrated research track record and recognition at a national/ internation level for teaching, research and clinical service.
The salary for an Associate Professor (Level D) is between $181,166 p.a. - $199,585 p.a. (inclusive of a generous loading for a registered specialist) + 17% superannuation + (a total package of between $243k - $268k p.a. for a registered specialist).
The academic environment is different to commercial specialty practice with the academic mission of teaching and research being central to operations. You are not focused on caseload benchmarks of revenue targets but rather making a difference, leaving a legacy on the profession and undertaking research that changes the lives of animals.

We are seeking to appoint a veterinarian who have completed advanced training in small animal surgery to join a team of outstanding world-class clinical colleagues at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney. This role does not require previous academic experience but rather a strong clinical background and interest in supporting student development.
They will be responsible for providing best practice veterinary small animal general surgery services at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney (UVTHS). They will take an active role in the training of students working in the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The position will help to sustain and enhance a general surgery caseload for the purpose of developing Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) students Day 1 surgical competency in the UVTH-Sydney.

- Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists or a Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Surgery or the European College of Veterinary Surgery that enables registration as a Specialist in small animal surgery.
The commencement level will be determined based on the candidate's skills, experience and knowledge.

Reporting to the Unit Head, the main purpose of the Staff Veterinarian - Small Animal Internship (Surgery) is to provide junior level support to the Small Animal Surgery team-residents and specialists, and support teaching to DVM students. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to learn from our Small Animal Surgery specialists as well as a range of other disciplines across the hospital. They will assist other veterinarians in providing some supervision of clinical year veterinary students rotating through the service.

This full-time, ongoing position is part of our Companion Animal Community (first opinion) Practice. The Community Practice Service hosts a mandatory three-week rotation in wellness, general, and preventive care. The successful candidate must possess a strong commitment to excellence in patient care, service to clients, and clinical teaching, as well as strong leadership and communications skills. This is a clinical role with an emphasis on clinical instruction and patient care in the hospital. Time not assigned to clinical instruction and patient care on clinical rotations will be devoted to classroom/laboratory teaching, scholarship, and service.
The salary range for this role is at a Practicing/Senior Practicing Veterinarian grade (for 2025), ranging from $83,201-$147,548 (NZD). Salary will be negotiable by background/experience.

Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital (BBWH) is a registered non-profit organisation dedicated to conserving and protecting Australian wildlife through expert veterinary care, rehabilitation, research, and education.

The Opportunity
As a Wildlife Veterinarian at Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital, you will work as part of a passionate and supportive team dedicated to providing high-quality veterinary care to Australia’s native wildlife. You’ll have the chance to treat a wide variety of species and use advanced diagnostics and surgical techniques in our purpose-built mobile hospital, Matilda.
Your role will include hands-on medical and surgical care, as well as mentoring veterinary students and collaborating with a diverse team of veterinary nurses, volunteers, and wildlife carers. Strong communication and teamwork are essential as you’ll engage with carers, rescue organisations, and the broader community to ensure the best outcomes for our patients.
In addition to clinical work, you’ll contribute to our national wildlife disease surveillance efforts in partnership with Wildlife Health Australia. There may also be future opportunities to participate in research and conservation projects through our developing collaboration with our partner organisations.

Essential Criteria
- Veterinary degree registrable in NSW.

As an integral member of the leadership team, you will drive business development, strategy, and operations. In collaboration with the Operations Manager, veterinarians, nurses, technical staff, and support teams, your role will be to ensure the successful and efficient running of the hospital, while maintaining a focus on delivering exceptional patient and client care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Leadership: Full P&L responsibility for the hospital, including financial reporting and budgeting
- Strategic Planning: Partner with the leadership team to develop and implement business strategies and growth initiatives
