Part-time shifts required: 10-7 Thursday and 10-8 Fridays; full time role considered for right candidate (4 weekday shifts and every second Saturday). No Sundays or after-hours ever.

Is this the vet job you’ve been hoping exists (but figured didn’t)?

We’re Summer Hill Village Vet, a proudly independent clinic in Sydney’s Inner West, known for our kind medicine, loyal clients, and whip-smart, funny, big-hearted team. We’re vet-owned and vet-run—and we’ve built something a bit special.

Our culture?

Think zero ego, all-in support, loud laughter, nurse-led consults, snacks in the tea room, and every single Sunday off. We’re not a factory, we don’t tolerate toxicity, and we really care about doing the right thing—for our patients, our clients, and each other.

💡 What You’ll Get (That Most Ads Don’t Talk About)

🧬 A Bit About the Role

This is a mixed consulting + dental position. We’d love flexibility if our staffing levels or demands increase. There’s no after-hours and shifts fall between 7.30am–8pm.

You’ll work alongside a team of experienced vets, visiting specialists, and career nurses.
Our support staff ratio is genuinely high, and our case management is collaborative, not territorial.

UPPER NORTH SHORE - SMALL ANIMALS

Would you like to join our Vet Team in an independently owned ASAV Accredited Veterinary Hospital of Excellence in Sydney's Upper North Shore?

Summary

About us

Would you like to join our outstanding professional team of animal lovers, who enjoy coming to work each day?

Turramurra Veterinary Hospital is a supportive team who ensure that we provide the best care possible for our patients and their owners on a daily basis. We consider our community's pets as an extension of our own family.

We believe work should be enjoyed, not endured. We are proud to have maintained a pleasant workplace environment that focuses on team collaboration, leadership and career development.

Turramurra Veterinary Hospital is a 6-vet (full-time equivalent) practice and the North Shore's only ASAV-accredited Hospital of Excellence, and we are a Lincoln Institute Accredited Employer of Choice.

We are located in Sydney's Upper North Shore, close to National Parks and around 30 minutes from the city and close to the Northern Beaches.

We have a purpose-built recently renovated modern and well-equipped building with two sterile surgical theatres, My Lab ultrasound, oxygen cage/oxygen concentrator, Canon DR digital radiology suite, IM3 dental x-rays, Vet-Tome, Vetscan pathology/Imagyst suite and VetNotes AI technology. We regularly have visiting specialists provide services for our practice and we have an Exotics vet (MANCVS in Unusual Pets) on our team who works twice weekly.

We aim for the gold-standard of care for our patients and to facilitate this, we have a high ratio of supportive team members to vets and allow 30-minute primary consultations so that our vets have the time to develop client rapport and provide a high level of patient care without the stress of being overbooked. We provide consult-free time and are rostered adequately to ensure there is adequate time to update patient records, report pathology results and fit in triage appointments if required. There are pre-entered urgent appointment blocks before close to reduce the likelihood of vets being held back after their allocated finish time.

Our team of over 30 employees includes our dedicated Customer Care Team, who is supported by our Nursing Team and Hospital Assistants as required.

View our website at www.turramurravet.com.au to learn more about our practice.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced veterinarian, who has exceptional communication skills in building client rapport, is comfortable performing thorough diagnostic investigations and enjoys practising a high standard of veterinary medicine. High level surgical skills are welcome but not essential for this role and we would consider a veterinarian who prefers a consulting only position. Our practice would also be able to support a return-to-work program for a veterinarian who has taken a break from practice.

The position is open to being either permanent part-time or full-time.

A permanent full-time position is based on 38 hours per week. Your weekly roster will include 2-3 consulting shifts and 1-2 surgery shifts, including a shared weekend roster of 1 in 2 Saturdays and 1 in 4 Sundays plus 2 Public Holidays per year. There is very little sole-charge work required.

A part-time position based on 15-30 hours per week depending on your preferred number of weekly hours. Your weekly roster will include 2-3 consulting shifts +/- 1 surgery shift, including a shared weekend roster of 1 in 3 Saturdays, 1 in 6 Sundays and 1 Public Holiday per year. There is very little sole-charge work required.

We encourage a healthy work-life balance so there are no after-hours on-call work, as we refer locally to Northside Emergency Veterinary Service (NEVS). On occasions where there is an in-patient that needs to be checked in the late evening, the vet or nurse available to do the check is paid a fee for doing so, which is charged to the client.

About you

Starting salary is negotiable from $110,000 - 140,000 per annum + 12% superannuation (full-time or pro-rata part-time) and is dependent on experience, expertise, qualifications and availability of the successful applicant.

What We Offer:

Rostered hours will vary from winter to summer and consist of a combination of early and late shifts, depending on our roster requirements. It is important that you can do a combination of early start and late finishes, which will be dependent on practice requirements.

What we look for in a vet:

What we can offer you:

What we do:
At Richmond & Wilberforce Vet, no two days are the same. While there are some days where it’s a little q***t, most are full of interesting cases. Just this year, our vets have treated cats, dogs, ferrets, rabbits, birds, lizards, snakes, koalas, crocodiles and cheetahs!

We work closely with WIRES, donating a lot of our time and resources and to treating our native wildlife, we provide subsidised desexing procedures through our local animal shelter, we are constantly rescuing kittens found in gutters, and coolest of all, our Veterinary Director, Dr Tom Winters, is the on-call veterinarian for The Wild Cats Conservation Centre, treating their cheetahs, snow leopards, caracals, snapping turtles, and other amazing resident animals. While we can’t promise you’ll also get to treat them, we can promise you’ll definitely get to meet them!

What some of our staff have to say:
Richmond and Wilberforce vets are fantastic clinics to work for. Both the nursing and veterinary teams are extremely supportive, and we all work together to give our patients the best care. We help each other with cases and different procedures and are encouraged to expand our knowledge and techniques.
- Dr Wood

Richmond and Wilberforce Vets is like a family - but not the dysfunctional kind! We celebrate wins and commiserate losses as a team. We enjoy practicing a high standard of medicine and I love that we treat most things furred, feathered, or scaled. I couldn’t ask for much more!
- Dr Kurtz

"Richmond and Wilberforce Vets has a team of vets and nurses that work collaboratively to provide high standard of care for our patients. We are happy to support each other with cases and procedures, especially for more complex ones, and share knowledge and expertise to reach the best patient outcomes."
- Dr Poon

I started here as a new grad and never wanted to leave.”
- Dr Winters – Veterinary Director

I’ve had the pleasure of working at Richmond and Wilberforce Vet Hospitals for 5 years, and it’s been an incredible experience. The staff are amazing and supportive, and many have become close friends, making every shift enjoyable. I feel so lucky every day to be a part of a team that feels like a family.
Each day is unique, and you never know what will come through the door, but you can guarantee that you’ll get through it as a team and have a few (or a lot) of laughs along the way!
Our head vet, Dr. Tom, and our practice manager, Eden, are fantastic. They’re kind, caring, and constantly strive to create a positive workplace and drive change in the industry for the better. If you are looking for caring and positive team to work with and some new friends that make coming to work exciting every day. I encourage you to come work with us!

- Claire, Veterinary Nurse

"At Richmond & Wilberforce Vets I’m encouraged and supported with my continuing education goals, I’m surrounded by a hard-working and dedicated team of people who love animals, I'm fed sushi and cookies in our regular staff meetings, and I’m led by managers who I can have a laugh with and go to when I need help or when I have ideas to improve the way we do things.”
