BRADDON - SMALL ANIMAL New Graduates welcome New Position

We need another vet! Who? Ideally full time (negotiable), a new or recent graduate, or someone keen to undertake dentistry memberships.

What do you need to know about us? We love being vets. Most importantly, we want our colleagues to keep loving their jobs too.

Why do we love Northside?

We're a locally owned business (and aim to stay that way). We’re located in the centre of Canberra in a great location next to fantastic food and coffee. Canberra has fabulous access to beautiful National Parks, with snow and surf just an easy drive away and excellent museums and galleries. Northside Veterinary Centre fiercely believes in work-life balance and ensuring your job is sustainable so you’ll be able to enjoy all that the region has to offer.

We are a team of passionate, fun and supportive vets, nurses, animal attendants and receptionists. We advocate and aim for fear-free veterinary care. We believe in compassionate client care and high standard pet care. We have fabulous clients who are willing to work cases up and frequently take up the offer of specialist referral (but we still get to work up many interesting cases). Our existing vets have memberships in small animal medicine, feline medicine and small animal dentistry, and have undertaken CVE distance education certificates in cardio-respiratory medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, behaviour and imaging. The team enjoys working in a collaborative fashion, sharing knowledge and discussing cases each day and have allocated time for daily rounds. We encourage your special interests and help you develop your professional skills and will invest in your further study and skill diversification. Candidates keen to pursue dental memberships are encouraged; we see a high referral dental case load. The successful candidate will have an excellent support system in place to encourage skill development and any special interests.

The clinic has all the normal toys: two sterile surgeries, digital radiography and ultrasound, separate cat and dog consulting rooms and wards, heated and oxygen capable cages, tonometer, BAIR huggers, multi-parameter monitors, a full pathology suite, and a dedicated dental suite with built-in dental radiography.

Recent testimonials from an experienced vet and our current new grad:

“There’s a reason I keep returning to work with them – it feels like coming home. Libby and Winston have always led with integrity and compassion – for their patients, their clients, and their staff. Their commitment to practising a high standard of medicine and surgery is something I deeply value. I absolutely love consulting, and it means so much to me to be able to recommend treatments for people's pets with full confidence in the skill and care of the team. I’d trust them with my own pet in a heartbeat, and that kind of trust is truly precious to me. It’s a joy to return to clinical practice with renewed energy and a broader perspective. I’m so grateful to be working with a team that shares my values – and I’m looking forward to caring for the animals (and humans!) of our community together - for quite a while longer, I suspect”.

“…As a new graduate veterinarian, I would highly recommend working at Northside Veterinary Centre. I work with an empathetic and caring team of animal lovers; this makes me look forward to coming to work. We practice fear-free techniques, which means our patients have a stress-free time at the vet. We have team and vet meetings to discuss how to improve patient care, discuss up-to-date evidence based medicine and practices, and share any changes we would like for our job. It is a safe space to learn and share experience, skills, and management of cases, in a supportive and encouraging environment. Management is approachable and down-to-earth, they work alongside us so they are in touch with staffing needs, and provide resources for personal growth and education. A great place to work!”

We’ll work with you to find a suitable roster. Our standard full time roster consists of 8 working days/fortnight, with a rostered day off each week and an additional day off after working a Saturday. Or negotiate a part-time roster. The clinic is open from 8.00am-6pm Monday-Friday and 8.00am-1pm Saturday. There is no on-call duty and we do not open Sundays nor public holidays.

Our salary package is generous and negotiable with at minimum 4 weeks annual leave and 1 week study leave + study leave allowance + annual practice registration and radiation licence paid, + practice membership for VIN, CVE, Plumbs and ISFM.

🌦️THE WEATHER REPORT (BRUTALLY HONEST EDITION):

Winter: Unbearably cold. You're going to need a coat!

Summer: It’s hot, and the UV index is so high even your shadow will need sunscreen.

But... there's two glorious weeks of perfect weather in Autumn and another two in Spring. Locals set reminders in their calendars.

Want to enjoy Canberra’s amazing walking trails, horse riding, kayaking spots, scenic cycle paths and other outdoor adventures? Great! Now wait for the weather to cooperate, remember there's just those four glorious weeks in Autumn and Spring.

🎉 BONUS FACTS ABOUT CANBERRA:

Officially one of Australia’s most liveable cities (no one really knows how they calculate that, but we’re running with it).

More public holidays than any other state—Canberra Day included.

And what do Canberrans do on Canberra day? They LEAVE!! They flee to the coast like a wombat to a warm burrow. You will too!

The best thing in Canberra is the Airport (it's the quickest way out of here) and the weekends away. The beach is only 1.5 hours drive east, in winter the snow is only 2 hours south and Sydney is only 3.5 hours up the Hume.

🧤 ABOUT THE JOB:

We’re after a vet (FT or PT) who’s as passionate about patient care as they are about dodging magpies and circling yet another roundabout. You’ll be working alongside a team who believes in doing great work and having fun while doing it.

👩‍⚕️ Expect to treat everything from pampered pooches to dignified tabbies (and the odd public servant with separation anxiety). Our clientele? Well-paid public servants and cashed-up tradies who know their worth — just like we do. Our motto is simple: “A fair exchange of services. You put in a fair day’s work, you get a fair day’s pay.” No burnout. No nonsense. And, we’re nice!

💼 WHAT YOU GET:

💌 Ready to give your career a healthy check-up? Drop Dr. Tash a line: info@jamisonvet.com or 02 6253 1810. Or just swing by — once you’ve successfully navigated the seventh roundabout on your left.

The city itself has undergone a transformation in recent years and boasts first class restaurants, schools and educational, cultural and sporting facilities.

MELBA,NORTH WEST CANBERRA - SMALL ANIMAL New Position

Small Animal Vet

You're a good vet. We're a good clinic. Let's not overcomplicate it.

Hi, I'm Jasmine - vet, clinic owner, and currently growing a tiny human.

While I'm off on maternity leave early next year, we're looking for an experienced vet (think 5+ years) to join our small, boutique clinic in Canberra's north. If you're confident in your medicine and surgery skills and want to work somewhere that genuinely feels good to walk into each day - this might be the place.

Honestly, if you've been in this job for a while, I trust you've got the vet part covered. What we offer is the atmosphere. If you asked my staff or clients what sets us apart, they'd tell you it's how connected we are as a team. We're small, we know each other well, and we all pull in the same direction. There's a strong feedback culture - everyone chips in, gives ideas, supports each other, and there's no hierarchy when it comes to having a voice. It's the kind of place where you don't feel like a cog in the machine.

We're a young, slightly quirky crew who work hard but laugh harder. We love our clients, we love our patients, and we love making the clinic feel like home. If that sounds like your kind of vibe - we'd love to hear from you.
We do need someone to start before Christmas, so that you've got time to settle in. But don't worry - we close down for the actual Christmas break because we believe everyone deserves a proper rest, some pavlova, and a few days without a thermometer in their pocket.

From January, you'll be working alongside Dr Harry, and then from mid-March, you'll take the reins while he's off on his honeymoon. That'll be your time to shine - sole charge, supported by a team of experienced nurses who absolutely run the show. I'll likely return 1–2 days a week from March.

You'll need to be available for our Saturday consulting shift (9am–1pm) - that part's non-negotiable. We will need you to work full time sole-charge for the month of March-May but otherwise we can discuss if you would prefer part-time or full time hours ongoing. Our clinic is usually 1.5-2.5 FTE.

This role is to cover maternity leave for at least 6 months, but it’s not a locum position — we’re looking for someone who’ll become a long-term part of our team.

Here's a quick peek behind the scenes. This is who we are, and why we love coming to work.

If we sound like your people, please reach out. Let's have a chat!
