CAPALABA, CITY OF REDLAND - SMALL ANIMAL New Position
Opportunity: Full Time Associate Vet
Location: Capalaba, QLD
Start date: July 2025
Me: Do you LOVE Monday mornings?
You: Ummm is that a trick question?
Me: Fair call. No one does…. except Dr Rach and myself.
You: WTF?
Me: We love them because by working Mondays, we can offer our new vet Monday’s off and a four-day working week, as well as $100K starting salary and a fun, collaborative & supportive place to work😊
You: Oooooh I see what you’ve done there. Ok so tell me more, what else you got goin’ on there buddy?
Me: I’m glad you asked. We’re a boutique clinic (viz high quality) and our standard consult time is 30mins so we can “do all the things” without stressing balls. We have an amazing client base and I’m not just saying that. I’ve caught and released many clients for being rude and obnoxious and we train the rest of them to value our service whilst paying top dollar.
We’ve developed an epic workplace culture foundered upon a common interest in personal development and leadership training. In fact, the University of Georgia uses My Local Vet as an example of what a great workplace culture looks like when preparing their vet students to enter the workforce!
We do three awesome social events per year ranging from shark diving to sailing trips, helicopter joy rides to multi-day hikes. This creates “super-cohesion” because you end up working with your mates!
You: Shit eh? I hate work functions.
Me: Dude, these are totally different and they’re entirely optional. TRUST ME, they’re fun.
Me again: Let’s see, what else…; we have zero politics just open and honest conversations, most decisions are made by the team, our standards of care is very sexy indeed and this is reflected in our equipment: IDEXX Procyte and Catalyst machines, UA Analyser, iM3 dental equipment, digital dental radiology, a brand new DR digital x-ray machine, TonoVet tonometer, ultrasound, diathermy.. the list goes on. Every anaesthetised patient gets a heated anaesthetic circuit, NIBP, ETCO2, ECG and temp probe.
Please click here to see photos!
You: Ok well this is looking quite promising. What about the nurses? I’ve worked with some “OK” ones and some incredible ones. I like the incredible ones.
Me: Don’t we all! Our nursing team members are smart, well trained, reliable and usually two steps ahead of me. One is a vet tech and she’s in charge of the nursing standards of care, the others have various qualifications. I find that once you reach a minimum level of expertise (which they all have) it’s their personal attributes that make all the difference – willingness to make the vet’s life easier, forward thinking, got your back, easy to work with – that kind of thing.
You: What about you? You sound pretty good here, but you might be a sociopath! Are you?
Me: Haha classic. I’ve never been asked that before but it’s probably worth asking before you start a new job right? Having said that, do sociopaths know that their sociopaths? Even if they do, would they tell you? I digress. I’m not aware of any such tendency. I think I’m a good person and a good boss. The relationships I cultivate with my team members are horizontal, not vertical. That is to say, I treat others like my equal. Hence my style in writing this ad. I’m open, fair, and honest and I genuinely care about my people. Also, I own the practice independently so if there’s something you want to change it’s just a conversation not a marathon of red tape. No escalating the issue to your supervisor and then the manager only to find she’s currently on annual leave so you’ll have to wait until she’s back. It’s just me, the one stop shop.
You: Ok fair enough, who are the other vets? I’m looking for a collaborative, supportive workplace where the vets share their knowledge and expertise willingly and will make time for me if I need some advice or reassurance that I’m on the right track. Sometimes you just need another opinion, you know?
Me: Totally. I get it. Our head Vet, Dr Rach looks for exactly the same thing in our applicants – will they be supportive and generous with their knowledge. Rach has 9 years of experience, practices evidence based medicine and has a special interest in behaviour. She’s switched on and loves discussing cases. Then there’s me. I’m currently starring down the barrel of 20 years of vet practice. I used to teach at the UQ Vet School so sharing knowledge comes naturally to me. Rach and I have experience with most soft tissue surgeries and plenty of dentistry.
You: Ok, well that all sounds pretty good. Where to from here?
Me: Well, you can give me a call if you want to chat more about the position or if you’d rather go down the traditional path just send me an email with a cover letter and your resume.

ST LUCIA, RIVERSIDE BRISBANE - SMALL ANIMAL New Position
Full-Time Vet
Looking for a workplace where you're truly part of the family - not just another name on the roster? You've found your Village.
We're Vets in the Village, an independently owned small animal clinic in leafy St Lucia. We've created a space that feels more like a calming home than a hospital - for our clients, their pets, and our team.
This isn't corporate. This isn't cookie-cutter. It's community-driven, heart-first veterinary care backed by excellent medicine, state of the art equipment - and an equally excellent team. In just 1.5 years, we've grown to a team of 8 and we're changing the way clients experience veterinary medicine.
What makes us different?
- 🐾 We know your name, your pets name, and your coffee order. Relationships matter here - with clients and each other.
- 🌱 We're genuinely low-stress. Our environment is warm, our clients are lovely, and our team looks out for one another. No Sunday shifts, no high-volume chaos, instead we're focused on high value, comprehensive treatment.
- 🧠 We value your brain. We support thoughtful, gold-standard care and give you the time, support and autonomy to actually do it.
- 💛 We're big on continuity. You get to follow through on your cases, build rapport, and make a real difference - not just tick a box and move on.
- 💛 Transparency throughout the clinical journey. We bring owners through every step of the clinical journey, including into the treatment area. No more "out the back" or taking pets away from their owners.
Please click here to see photos!
The Role
- A mix of general practice consultations, surgery (routine desexings and soft tissue), dentals, preventative care, medical workups, and urgent cases, supported by 5 nurse and reception staff.
- Flexible 30-45min appointment lengths and scheduling that's designed for quality care - not burnout.
- A chance to be part of shaping a thriving, independent practice where your voice counts. Opportunity to take on leadership opportunity if this is of interest.
- Be supported by a veterinary team with special interests in internal medicine, imaging, emergency and surgery.
You'll get:
- Generous salary starting from $120k + super (commensurate with experience)
- 4 weeks annual leave.
- 📚 Generous CPD support from $3,000 plus 1-week CPD leave per year (tell us what lights you up, and we'll make it happen).
- ❤️🩹 Genuine support from a team that values kindness and clinical excellence in equal measure.
- 🐶 A say in how we do things – we love a fresh idea or a better way of doing something.
- 🏡 Clients who trust you – many have been with us for years, and we work in true partnership with them.
- Flexible rosters – We embrace flexibility with early/late starts and finishes, and only 1 in 3 weekends.
- Regular socials – We value fun! Every 2 months we do Friday drinks and learn (1hr training, early close, snacks, music and drinks) and quarterly socials i.e. Broncos, paint and sip, pub choir, axe throwing – you name it we're keen! We think vet clinics should embrace the corporate city Friday fun!
- Are a qualified vet with over 5 years under your belt with the right values, energy, and the ability to consult and operate, sole charge and as part of a team.
- Love small animal medicine and working as part of a close-knit team of 8.
- Are curious, collaborative, and ready to bring your whole self to work.
- Are a clear communicator who values client education and continuity of care.
- Want to work somewhere that feels calm, professional, and human.

COOMBABAH, GOLD COAST - SMALL ANIMAL
Join our Fun and Friendly team at Happy Paws Vet!
- Ready to work somewhere that makes you smile before you even walk through the door?
- Want to work in a practice that prides itself on Gold Standard Care and Service—and actually has the time and tools to deliver it?
- Want to work in a clinic where the owner genuinely cares about the team and the culture is fantastic?
- Does general surgery and dentistry light you up?
Happy Paws Veterinary Clinic is a privately owned small animal clinic located in the northern end of the Gold Coast, opened in 2017 by Dr Vanessa.
"My why: Since graduating in 1999 I worked in a variety of independently owned and corporate practices throughout Canada, the UK and Australia, but never found the practice of my dreams. I dreamt of a clinic where 30 minute consultations were standard in order to deliver exceptional care and service, be thorough and still have enough time to develop a relationship with the clients. A clinic where the team culture was fun and positive - based on respect and integrity, where I would work alongside people who share a true passion for our industry and enjoy coming to work, where mistakes were viewed as learning opportunities and feedback was frequent and welcomed. In 2017, I decided that since I hadn't found this nirvana, I would create it! Nearly 8 years on, not only has my dream become my reality in Happy Paws, but the clinic has also become bigger and better with a recently completed expansion! Now we are looking for another like-minded veterinarian to join myself, Dr Tiana and our amazing support team in keeping the dream going!" Dr Vanessa Escott
But don't just take my word for it! Here are a few things Dr Tiana said when asked what her favourite things about working here are:
"- The team & culture of the clinic is unmatched
- Scheduling is fantastic - time for call backs & catch ups, multiple save for the day booking slots to allow for emergencies or on the day calls
- Clients are well trained: rarely getting walk ins who demand to be seen; understand the importance of monitoring bloodwork & regular checks; value our work and often express their gratitude towards us
- Having actual relationships with clients who value our recommendations
- The support staff - so incredibly competent and confident they are always making my day so much easier & can put all my trust in them
- No double bookings, no "we'll squeeze this one in", no end of day surprise appointments before we close
- Up to date toys/equipment & a flashy clinic are nice but nothing compares to this team ☺"
Please click here to see photos!
What We Bring to the Table:
- Team-oriented culture with a boss that really does care about the team
- A truly boutique clinic with clients that value our service and our attention to detail
- A beautiful, purpose-built facility with ISFM Gold Accreditation (yes, we even have a separate entrance for cats!)
- All the usual bells and whistles you would expect and a workplace you look forward to coming to everyday (let's face it – you don't spend 38 hours a week in any other place!)
- Continuing Education allowance to purse your special interests
- A fantastic espresso machine in the dedicated lunchroom, because we know how important those little things are!
Who You Are:
- A vet with a growth mindset, a passion for preventative care, and a drive to provide exceptional service
- A vet with at least a few years' experience – comfortable with complex medical cases and general surgery
- Someone who values teamwork and believes in the power of communication and collaboration
- A vet who loves general surgery and dentistry
- A vet who wants to truly make a difference in the lives of pets and clients alike - by going beyond just treating the immediate issue
Ideally you are looking for a full-time position (working 76 hours per fortnight with the spread of hours being 4 weekdays (8am to 5:30pm) and every second Saturday (8am to 12midday)). However, if you are seeking part time hours and this sounds like your dream job - don't let this put you off applying!! The roster can be flexible if you're the perfect fit!
