The Opportunity
We are looking for a talented surgery intern who is interested in working in a dynamic and learning workplace. This 12-month internship offers an outstanding opportunity for a motivated veterinarian to advance their knowledge and skills in surgery. Under the guidance of our specialist surgeons, you will gain hands-on experience in:
- Assisting with a wide range of surgical procedures
- Managing pre- and post-operative patients
- Developing case management and clinical decision-making skills
- Collaborating closely with our multi-disciplinary team
- Participating in rounds, journal clubs, and case discussions
This internship is designed to provide a strong foundation for those considering future residency training or wishing to enhance their surgical knowledge for general practice.
About You
We are looking for a veterinarian who:
- Has a degree in veterinary science (or equivalent) and registration with the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Queensland
- 1 – 2 years post-graduate experience is preferred
- Possesses excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Demonstrates a passion for surgery and ongoing learning
- Has a strong commitment to delivering compassionate patient care

Your New Role!
The ECC section within TAHMU is a team of exceptional veterinary professionals dedicated to being the benchmark for patient and client standards of care in the field of ECC in Perth, Western Australia, and Australia. Our Assistant Veterinarian position offers a new and industry-leading program to provide foundational knowledge and competencies including consultation, diagnostic investigation, treatment and basic surgical skills specific to the field of Emergency and Critical Care. Your progression and development of these competencies will be supervised and supported by ECC Veterinary Supervisor and experienced veterinarians over a 12-month duration with increasing case responsibility. To complement your clinical training, you will also undertake complementary study and assessment including the 12 month Improve International ECC Accelerate program, internal CPD, and Fear Free accreditation as well as having access to Journal Club and Multidisciplinary rounds to augment your learning opportunities.
We are committed to helping you develop a sustainable and rewarding career pathway within the field of ECC. This position would be ideal for someone new or recently graduated who wants to practice the highest standards of care in emergency medicine or as preparation for a specialty trainee or residency program.
Your key responsibilities will include -

About Us:
GARS is a multidisciplinary small animal referral hospital staffed 24/7. Onsite specialists in surgery, internal medicine, emergency and critical care and diagnostic imaging are supported by residents, department specific interns, reception and nursing staff.
The GARS vision is to be Victoria’s leading referral centre. We have recruited staff with a view to achieving this goal. The hospital is brand new, purpose built, proudly independent and privately-owned. Located in Newtown Geelong, the hospital occupies a tranquil part of the city, immediately surrounded by beautiful greenspaces, overlooking the Barwon River, Balyang sanctuary and Balyang Golf course. Position details
- Rotating internship, gaining valuable clinical experience in surgery, internal medicine, ECC and diagnostic imaging over a 12-month period

Pay and Conditions
- This is a salaried full-time position based on a 4-day working week. Some of these days will be on weekends. In addition to this, interns will provide after-hours support on a rotational basis.
- Regular working hours are 8am-6pm, however reasonable flexibility to work beyond those hours on a given day is required if clinical responsibilities dictate this.
- Annual leave, personal/carer’s leave, parental leave, compassionate leave and community service leave will accrue and be provided in accordance with the Fair Work Act 2009.
- Some mobile work may be required in the GARS mobile service and our sister business Melbourne Animal Referral Services (MARS).

What You'll Experience

Hours
Our hospital is open 8am–6pm for visiting clients and patients.

New Position
**ROTATING INTERNSHIP POSITION AVAILABLE**
Metropolitan Melbourne, VICTORIA
Advanced Vetcare Kensington is a 24hr Emergency and Specialist Animal Hospital situated in central Melbourne. We also have two branch clinics in Geelong and Kew. A 12 month position (54 weeks) is available to a suitable applicant as a rotating intern starting in Jan 2026. The specialist team consists of 7 specialist surgeons, 3 internal medicine specialists, and two oncologists. The specialist team is supported by residents, interns and a full experienced ICU team and nursing support. The position would mainly be based in Kensington and Kew.
The rotations would involve:
- 3 months in the surgery department
- 3 months in the medicine department
- 3 months in the oncology department
- 3 months in the emergency department
At the end of the 12 months you may have the option to move into a specialist internship.
During these 12 months, a successful applicant will:
- Participate and present in grand rounds discussing advances in veterinary medicine
- Participate in journal club with surgical residents, registrars and specialists
- Scrub into a large number of orthopaedic, soft tissue and neurological surgeries at our three hospitals
- See primary cases through our emergency department and learn to perform common emergency procedures
- Assist in medical procedures including endoscopy, ultrasounds, and case management of medical patients
- Assist in staging and treatment of oncology patients including advanced imaging, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapy
- Continue further education to develop their knowledge with access to Vetbloom online course material provided
- Participate in intern-specific tutorials for emergency procedures
- Have access to our Employee Assistance Program to support their mental health
Our centres are well-equipped modern hospitals with in-house clinical pathology, digital radiography, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, endoscopy and 64-slice CT at each branch. The Residency Program:
Our Surgery Resident will assist our surgeons with diagnosis, surgical treatment, and post operative care of surgical patients. The position will evolve to be having primary case responsibility with always having support and guidance from your supervisor. This position is a structured learning opportunity and will offer you a varied case load to ensure you are confident and ready to sit your board examinations.
The residency program requires a 3 year commitment, on a full-time basis being completed via the Australian and New Zealand College (FANZCVS). You will contribute to publications for the service while also conducting a brief clinical research project for publication (unless already performed which can contribute to your credential document).

The Surgery Internship
You will be mentored for a 12 month period, assisting a team of 8 Specialist Surgeons, with diagnosis, surgical treatment, and post operative care of surgical patients. You’ll be exposed to a broad range of Orthopaedic and Soft tissue cases. The surgery department is well-resourced with state-of-the-art kit and 6 theatres. Imaging is of the highest standard with digital radiology, MRI, CT scanner, X-ray and Ultrasound all readily available. You will be further supported by the largest on-site radiology and anaesthesia teams in the country. Our sports medicine and rehabilitation department has also rapidly expanded. You will work closely with 2 Specialists, as well as a number of rehabilitation therapists, assisting with access to laser and hydrotherapy tank treatments.
The internship has been structured to prepare you for a residency in small animal surgery. You will complete guided project(s) in the hospital’s clinical research areas as part of your internship, with the findings of such research being presented at a scientific meeting and published in a peer-reviewed journal. You will play a pivotal role in daily rounds and client communication. Assistance in preparation for membership of the ANZCVS is also available.

About SASH:
The Small Animal Specialist Hospital (SASH) is the largest, privately owned network of veterinary hospitals in the Southern Hemisphere, offering multi-disciplinary specialist and emergency services across multiple locations in New South Wales, South Australia and Queensland. At SASH, we are committed to providing exceptional care and service to pets, their families, and the veterinary community. This is an exciting change for you to be the first surgery specific intern in our rapidly growing team on the Gold Coast!
You will be heavily involved in assisting our 3 Surgery Specialists and Neurology and Neurosurgery Specialist with the day to day running of the surgery service. You will play an active role in case work-ups, client communications and patient care, while receiving didactic teaching along with hands on skill development across a broad range of Orthopaedic, Soft tissue and neurology cases. The surgery department is well-resourced with arthroscopy and laparoscopy to allow minimally invasive image-guided procedures. We are also equipped with locking plate systems, linear and circular Imex ESF, and equipment for TPLO, interlocking nail (I-Loc) among others. Imaging is of the highest standard with digital radiology, new C-arm, new CT scanner and an MRI. You will also have on-site support from our Anaesthesia and Critical Care Specialists. The internship has been structured to prepare you for a residency in small animal surgery. The position requires a 12 month, full time commitment.
About You:
We are looking for a passionate, dedicated and enthusiastic vet with a thirst to learn and expand their surgery knowledge, in a multi-specialty hospital. We are looking for someone who wants to be hands-on with cases and patients. You will work extremely closely with the specialists on their cases from admission through to discharge.
Key skills for this role include:
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to liaise with many different stakeholders
- Effective time management and organisational skills
- Value a hospital culture of inclusivity, empathy and teamwork.
- Have completed a rotating internship or have comparable experience.
- Current registration with the Veterinary Practitioners Board of QLD.

About Us
The Victorian Equine Group operates Bendigo Equine Hospital and several satellite locations in Victoria. The Hospital was established in 2012 and is both a first opinion and referral hospital servicing clients from across Victoria. We operate with a team of 10-13 vets, depending on the season. Our team is highly skilled and features both surgical and reproductive specialists, ambulatory and hospital-based clinicians. About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable individual with interest in equine medicine. You should be able to work as part of a team and have excellent communication skills.
Your primary responsibility will be the day-to-day care of hospital cases under the supervision of a senior veterinarian. This will include intensive neonatal care, anaesthesia and post operative monitoring of surgical cases. You will also be involved in general practice with cases ranging from lameness investigations, colic work ups, breeding mares and medical patients. Our case load is variable including commercial and pleasure horses. You will gain considerable experience in all aspects of equine veterinary medicine.
New graduates and those with some experience in mixed animal or first opinion equine practices are encouraged to apply.
You will participate in an equally shared “Out of hours hospital roster” which is a maximum of 1 in 3 weeknights and weekends in the breeding season.
Skills you will learn during the internship include
- Placing nerve blocks and performing joint injections (including pressure testing joints near wounds)
- Taking and interpreting radiographs (feet, fetlocks, knees, hocks, stifles, backs)
- Ultrasound of abdomens, chests, and tendons.
- Anaesthetising horses – both in a field setting and on gaseous anaesthetic
- Reproductive Scanning
- Workup and management of compromised neonatal foals
- Workup and management of colics
- Castrations

SES Equine Veterinary Services is offering an extremely unique internship opportunity for a motivated veterinary graduate with a strong interest in equine reproduction and stud medicine. This fixed term position runs from February to August 2026
Our practice works with a large number of flat Thoroughbred stud farms with an increased work load commencing in February. The breeding season is our busiest period, with a high volume artificial breeding caseload which includes chilled and frozen AI, embryo transfer, and OPU. We also provide a problem mare referral service. Interns will gain valuable hands-on experience by shadowing our veterinary team therefore gaining in depth exposure , knowledge and experience in all aspects of equine reproduction and stud medicine.
This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside our experienced team of 2.5 -3.5 vets and 1 nurse in a supportive environment. Interns will assist with all aspects of stud medicine, routine care, and emergency work, and will benefit from mentorship and case discussion.

Interns are scheduled to work a flexible roster based on the needs of each Department, which can include a mix of day and night shifts, weekend work and some public holidays.
