With our head nurse going to work at the zoo, an exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of a growing, small animal veterinary practice in Upper Hutt.

Maidstone Vets has been operating since 1978 and for the past 30 years locally owned.  The clinic is made up of an experienced team of 4 ½ vets and 7 support / nursing staff and we offer a range of veterinary services including emergency care, soft tissue and orthopaedics, rehabilitation, and in-house diagnostics.

We are passionate about providing excellent veterinary care to our client’s and their pets, by staff working in a caring and supportive work environment.

The clinic is open 7 days; the position will also include one evening shift per week and some weekend work on a rostered basis and one (fixed) week-day off.

This position is suited for a confident, performance driven individual, who will run the hospital and surgery part of the business and will lead and manage our team of nurses. To do this, the applicant needs to have:

Due to recent growth and a change in roles for our current staff, we now have a position available for a full or part time qualified Senior Veterinary Nurse with preferably at least 5 years experience. We are looking for our new nurse to be excited and motivated about being part of our growth and all the changes that come with this.

In addition to supporting our veterinarians with consults and surgery there would be some day to day management/organisation of the clinic and providing support to other staff members and students. We have a large cattery with cattery staff and we have dedicated receptionists so your role is mainly in our hospital.   We currently have 1.5 veterinarians, two part time nurses and two receptionists. Our hospital is equipped with digital radiography, ultrasound and all inhouse laboratory facilities.

We envision the successful applicant to be working 5 days per week plus 1 in 4 Saturdays. There are no after hours and we are closed on Public Holidays. There is flexibility to adjust hours to suit from part time to full time hours. We are happy to discuss all options for the right candidate. On a rare occasion, you must be able to work over time if required. The roster is such that every one gets decent breaks through the day.

Our rate of pay is commensurate with experience and what skills you can offer in this role at $22-$25 per hour.
