Te Kauwhata is a small town in the north of the Waikato region of New Zealand, situated close to the western shore of Lake Waikare, some 40 km north of Hamilton and approximately 58 km south of Manukau City.
City dwellers seeking an escape from the pressures of urban life are moving to Te Kauwhata in search of the 'good life". Te Kauwhata is still home to a variety of farming industries, including dairying, beef units, sheep and cattle, deer, alpaca and goats, fruit orchards, market gardening, horse studs and eel processing. Cottage industries include greenstone carving, home stays, farm stays, and apple/grape juice production. The village is also home to a variety of artists working in different media.
