Bundaberg lies on the Burnett River, about 385 kilometres north of Brisbane and 15 kilometres inland from the coast. Bundaberg is a major centre within Queensland's Wide Bay-Burnett region, with a population of just over 50,000.
It's a subtropical region and is dependent to a large extent on the local sugar industry. There's also a large fruit and veg industry.
Tourism is very important, as Bundaberg is at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef.
