Gawler is located 42 kilometres north of Adelaide at the edge of the metropolitan area. It is only a short drive from the key wine growing regions of Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Adelaide Hills, Murraylands and Riverland. It is also only a 30 minute drive to the coast so residents enjoy the benefits of the beach, country living as well as remaining close to the city. It acts as a key regional centre for communities to the north of Adelaide.

Established in 1839, Gawler is South Australia's first country town. It was named after the second Governor of the colony of South Australia, George Gawler. Gawler’s rich history is evident through its built and natural form including its striking architecture, heritage collections, natural riverine environments, large areas of open space and traditional ‘mainstreet’. Today the local community benefits from its surrounds and this rich history is reflected in many community events and festivals.
