At CHB Vets the majority of our services are for companion animals, however a key focus of this role will be to reignite our large animal services within the clinic. Gateway Vets has a locum opportunity for a Mixed Animal Veterinarian for August – October 2025, for our calving season.

We are a privately owned business operating out of a purpose-built rural practice in Geraldine, in the centre of the South Island. The clinic is situated on an aesthetic rural section and has been recently extended, providing a bright and spacious working environment. You will find a digital x-ray, the latest BCF scanners and a dedicated in-house laboratory for in-house milk analysis, haematology, biochemistry and parasitology.

Our growth since opening 12 years ago has been driven by the enthusiasm and energy of our close- knit team. This full-time, ongoing position is part of our Companion Animal Community (first opinion) Practice. The Community Practice Service hosts a mandatory three-week rotation in wellness, general, and preventive care. This includes medicine, basic dentistry, surgery, and shelter medicine with the goal of exposing final year veterinary students to a high-quality general practice environment.

The majority of the caseload is canine and feline, but interest in small mammals is encouraged. The successful candidate must possess a strong commitment to excellence in patient care, service to clients, and clinical teaching, as well as strong leadership and communications skills. This is a clinical role with an emphasis on clinical instruction and patient care in the hospital. Time not assigned to clinical instruction and patient care on clinical rotations will be devoted to classroom/laboratory teaching, scholarship, and service.

The salary range for this role is at a Practicing/Senior Practicing Veterinarian grade (for 2025), ranging from $83,201-$147,548 (NZD). Salary will be negotiable by background/experience.
