We are a low fuss, enjoy the job and support each other kind of crew! We want you to enjoy your work, connecting with patients and their owners while being supported by our very experienced team of support staff. Our nurses are empowered to do a lot of work, so you can focus on doing the vet work you love.
A bit about us:
Our hospital is 6 years old this year and we have enjoyed a welcomed response from the community and have a well-established and lovely client base. We operate on a 1.5-2 vets per day basis currently. We are wanting to build to a 2-3 Vet per dad basis.
We start each day off with a ‘morning huddle’, where all team members have a look at the schedule for the day, share a daily win we have had and ensure clarity in everyone’s roles for that day.
Currently we have rostered surgery days where you will do surgery in the morning and consult in the afternoon and consulting days. Our surgery caseload is varied but we are well equipped to service preventative and routine surgeries through to emergency and complex surgeries. We have a love for dentistry, with a wonderful staged dentistry program.
Our consults are mostly 30 minutes, giving you time to get to know clients, do a thorough examination and discuss treatment plans. We have an experienced support team, including a dedicated receptionist, senior nurses and trainee nurses. We support the nursing team’s growth by getting them to do as much as they can so you can focus on vet work.
A full time vet would work a 4-day week, 8am-6pm and have 1 rostered day off. Pro-rata for part time. After hours is evenly shared (when you’re ready) – currently each vet does one full week per month on call (including the weekend). Call outs are very minimal, manageable, and very lucrative.
A little bit about you:
We are looking for someone who has:
- Great people presence, who can connect and relate to clients
- Time efficiency
- Attention to detail
- Willing to teach others
- High EQ – good self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills
A little bit about our hospital
We are currently a daytime GP hospital with a vet on call for afterhours.
We are well set up and some of our major equipment includes:
- Digital X-ray
- Ultrasound
- Dental equipment, including dental x-ray
- Separate and dedicated dog and cat hospitals, each with own treatment area and surgery
- 3 consulting rooms plus a triage/discharge area
- Idexx in house bloods and other routine in house laboratory equipment
We are registered as a Gold ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic and run Ezyvet as our Practice management software.
We practice hospital excellence and are continually self-evaluating our protocols to ensure best practice is achieved.
Ongoing CPD and team training:
This is critical for everyone in the team. We advocate for ongoing learning with regular team training and refresher training, practice membership to VIN, Vet Education webinars and ISFM. You will also be supported with a study allowance of $1500 PA and 1 week study leave per year. This comes into effect once you have been with us for 12 months.
We have monthly nurse and vet meetings to ensure smooth flow of hospital procedures and discuss projects we are working on. We hold a Team meeting quarterly where we close the clinic and discuss non-clinical training.
Teaching:
We pride ourselves on being a hospital, that advocates training and teaching, generally hosting veterinary nursing students and vet students where we can. Once you have found your feet, we would love for you to teach others, as teaching is also an amazing confidence building experience and really gets you comfortable with the content.
A little bit about Albury-Wodonga:
The clinic is located in Albury (Lavington) but the area is generally referred to as Albury-Wodonga. Albury being located on the NSW side of the Murray River and twin sister city - Wodonga being located on the Victorian side. Together the area offers great out-of-work lifestyle opportunities, many outdoor places to explore, in winter the snow fields are only an hour or so away. It is a large enough city to have all of your major shops and services, but small enough to still have that country feeling.
You can visit our Facebook page to see some photos of the clinic and get a ‘feel’ for the team - or we welcome you to come and meet the team. We would welcome you to work with us during final year practice placement if you are graduating this year.
