What You’ll Be Doing:
- All the usual vet nurse duties (anaesthetic monitoring, consult support, patient care, reception and other general nursing duties).
- Getting up close and personal with birds, cats, dogs, wildlife and the odd guinea pigs or rabbit.
- Assisting clients that come to the clinic both in person and virtually.
- Helping process both in-clinic and online pet store purchases.
- As an avian clinic, many of our patients come in as emergencies and require hospitalisation, so triage and hospital patient care will be part of your daily life.
- Nurse consults are part of what we do, so you’ll need to be confident speaking to clients.
- We offer a laser therapy service and will train the right person to help administer this.
- You will need to laugh at our bad jokes and contribute to our strong team culture.
What We’re Looking For:
- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent) is a minimum requirement
- Experienced in general practice, exotic experience welcome but not essential.
- Willingness to learn how to handle patients that might fly, flap or attempt to bite with mouths that strongly resemble a sharp pair of pliers.
- Someone who is tech savvy (or at least not scared of the internet)
- A reliable team player who’s happy to roll up their sleeves or hide their jewellery from the clinic’s pet quakers.
- Someone who can work independently and has initiative.
- Must love chocolate. We’re not fond of bringing carrot sticks into the break room. Ok maybe one or two of us are, but if you’re wise you’ll side with the chocolate majority, or at least dip the carrot in chocolate.
- Someone who is not afraid of a camera. You may end up on youtube, Tik Tok, or whatever social media we’re posting on.
- Language skills don’t hurt either as some of our clients have limited English.

- Preferably part-time role with hours negotiable up to 37.5 hours a week, but we have casual options too.
- Includes some weekend work, but we’re only open until 12pm on weekends and we share those shifts around. We believe in work/life balance.

About the Role
We’re looking for experienced nurses to join our large, dynamic clinic with 50 nurses and 25 vets. With five operating theatres, eight consulting rooms, and advanced diagnostic equipment, you’ll handle routine and complex procedures while providing top-notch care to hospitalised patients.
Key Responsibilities
Be involved in patient care of surgical, medical, inspectorate and shelter patients under the care of RSPCA VIC.
- Monitor patient comfort, vital signs and maintain patient charts, including but not limited to administering medications, following treatment plans, managing and delegating patient toileting, physiotherapy and exercise.
- Provide nurse consults, triages, admissions, discharges and foster consultations.
- Manage pre and post-operative care for a variety of procedures, including orthopaedics and ophthalmology.
- Perform in house pathology, recover patients post anaesthesia.
- Monitor & maintain patient CRI's, fluid therapy and wound management.
- Be the first point of contact for concerned pet owners with the support of a dynamic veterinary team.
Qualifications and Recruitment Requirements
- Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent experience is essential.
- Evidence of current tetanus vaccination required.
- Willingness to undergo a National Police Check.
