Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China, and former British colony, in southeastern China. Its vibrant, densely populated urban centre is a major port and global financial hub with a skyscraper-studded skyline. Central (the business district) features architectural landmarks like I.M. Pei’s Bank of China Tower. Hong Kong is also a major shopping destination, famed for bespoke tailors and Temple Street Night Market.
Wan Chai is a busy commercial area filled with office workers and shoppers. Specialty spots include Tai Yuen Street for toy stores, Queen’s Road East for antiques and Wan Chai Computer Centre for tech. At lunchtime, noodles shops and casual eateries do brisk business and, after work, a lively crowd descends on Lockhart Road's bars and nightclubs. A daily flag-raising ceremony takes place in Golden Bauhinia Square.
