Corowa, a Federation town, is on the bank of the Murray River, the border between New South Wales and Victoria, opposite the Victorian town of Wahgunyah. It is 610 km from Sydney, but just 281 km from Melbourne, and 57 km from Albury. It boasts a lovely Mediterranean climate. Tourism is a fast growing part of the region's economic expansion.
The Riverina is one of the most productive and agriculturally diverse areas of Australia, due to the combination of flat plains, warm to hot climate and an ample supply of water for irrigation. As well as being an important pastoral region for beef and wool; rice, citrus and wine grapes are all very important crops.
Major population and service centres in the Riverina include the cities of Wagga Wagga, Albury and Griffith. Albury and Wagga Wagga are home to campuses of Charles Sturt University.
