Newport is a county town on the Isle of Wight, the largest island county off the south coast of England.

It is the principle town, located in the centre of the diamond shaped island. This historic town centres on two elegant squares with Georgian and Victorian architecture surrounding them, with the town’s quay a short distance away. There are regular bus services running from Newport travelling in all directions across the Island, making it a great way to discover the Isle of Wight.

The town is also the Island’s principal shopping destination, with pedestrianised areas and many well known retailers. Newport has a good range of local shops and places to eat, as well as a selection of supermarkets.

You can catch a ferry from Portsmouth, Southampton and Lymington; there are excellent rail connections to all the major ferry ports, providing fast access to the Isle of Wight from across the UK; coaches travel daily; and there are, of course, direct flights available from several of the UK’s key airports.

The Health industry is the largest in Isle of Wight based on the number of jobs, accounting for 15.4% of roles in the area.

Is it worth a visit?  In the words of a local “It is pretty spectacular even on a grey day.”
