Taumarunui is a town in the King Country of the central North Island of New Zealand, on State Highway 4 and the North Island Main Trunk Railway. It is in rugged terrain 65 km south of Te Kuiti and 55 km west of Turangi. The town's economy has been based on forestry and farming, and more recently it has gained in importance as a tourism centre. Built on the banks of the Whanganui and Ongarue rivers and with a number of National Parks for hunting and tramping and skiing on the doorstep, this place is truly in the midst of things, and a great place to be if you love the outdoors!
