Biloela is a rural town and locality in Shire of Banana, Central Queensland. It is situated 120 kmsĀ inland from the port city of Gladstone. Biloela is the administrative centre of Banana Shire.
The name Biloela is generally believed to be the Aboriginal word for black or white cockatoo. The town was gazetted in 1924. The first open-cut mine was established in 1942. Originally graziers settled in the region and then later settlers of farming grain, cotton, dairying and piggeries.
Today, Biloela is a busy commercial and tourist hub. Biloela was once described as the Mouse that Roared. So much of what it has to offer is worthy of a much larger town. Still it is an ambitious place; planning to grow the community and it has the space to do just that with hectares of land zoned future urban, developed and green field industrial land waiting for new industry.
